But there is some truth in the 'caustic cynicism' comment, don't you think? I don't necessarily think that is meant to be critical. I see that as one of Don's great strengths as a writer, being something of a cynic myself. I do think the 'hardened aura of footloose turpitude' is utterly typical Rolling Stone speak, i.e. it means nothing.

You are right, Julie--Don does have a healthy dose of "caustic cynicism."
I didn't have a problem with the first part of that quote, I just included it to put the remainder of the "turpitude" quote in perspective.

    That's a good observation, DF!

Farewell, I'm glad you enjoyed my birthday wish to Don - well, nothing less than going all the way would do for him! He's very special. I hope that he saw it, though!

The guys are not really watching this forum, do you think?
Don said he's not into computer-stuf. So I have no illusions.

That won't do any good, Mrs F--a dictionary is no help at all when the writing is simply a piece of crap.

LOL, DF! As my dad says, straight talk is no insult. And I couldn't agree with you more! It's just pretentious writing .

I always thought it was interesting that in Rolling Stone's worldview it was wrong for millionaires leading decadent lifestyles to write about decadent lifestyles but it was perfectly acceptable for a millionaire to write about unemployed steelworkers.

I just wanted to say that I've had a chance to check out some more of the downloads that Soda put up on DonHenleyOnline for his birthday. They are great. For those of you who haven't had a chance, I would highly recommend that you check them out. I still haven't gotten to them all, but I really have enjoyed them so far.
