That actually looks a lot like the bass in the '76 Houston photo posted above (although not exactly)! And what a great pic--it's a new one to me!

Randy has had the gold Fender (Precision?) bass since at least 1968. Here it is during the Pogo/Poco tenure, before Randy added the "War is not healthy" sticker.

NMB, do you think it may be possible this is from his days with The Poor? His clothes look very similar to what he wore in that "Ironsides" clip and the guy on the left looks a lot like Allen Kemp (granted, it's only a partial shot). If you know for sure it's during his Poco tenure, I will take your word for it.

Yes, my thoughts were similar, Delilah. Especially since reviewing the Ironside clip, in which Randy is playing the gold Fender and is wearing a red turtleneck and snug striped trousers.

If you have access to Ancestry.com, you can see photos of Randy on the football team and the Boys' Glee Club in the 1961 Scotts Bluff High School Year Book. Oh, and in the Junior Council. And practicing guitar with his band for a school assembly. The boy was involved.

Ok,ok his ears are somewhat large; they appear smaller in the 2nd picture (maybe he grew into them). It doesn't take away from his adorable-ness.

I didn't realize he was so involved in school activities. Wasn't he also in FFA, according to Marc Eliot's book? Maybe that was Henley.

I sure hope he's doing well these days.

Edit: I just realized the top picture is from 1963 and the bottom is from 1961. So I guess he wouldn't have grown into them. He looks younger in the top picture to me.

I think Randy was in something like that and may have raised a sheep. Not sure.

These timelines are confusing. I've read different sources saying Randy joined the Soul Survivors in 1963, 1964, and 1965. Didn't he drop out of school in 1964? I was trying to figure out what he was doing in 1963 when the top picture was taken, b/c it looks like a school picture. I believe he got married and became a father that year. Maybe another thread topic?

He married in May 1963, which I believe was his junior (and final) year of high school. He was 17. His first son was born in November '63.

Randy was in the Drivin' Dynamics from 1961-65, then the Soul Survivors which morphed into The Poor. They moved to California in early-ish 1966 I believe, near as I can figure out.

According to randymeisneronline.com on EOC, Randy joined the Soul Survivors in 1964 where they got a record deal with Loma Records (I thought it was Decca and The Drivin Dynamics signed with Loma). I think it was Felder's book that gave an earlier date. What you stated jibes with the article I posted yesterday in the DD thread. There's a lot of conflicting info. Maybe the EOC info should be updated.

Thanks for that, NMB, and I'm glad someone who really cares about Randy's history is updating his Wiki page. And I have found some inconsistencies in Felder's book.
