There's also a bunch of Eagles recordings (audio-only, unfortunately) here:

Thank you so much for this! There are concert recordings here that I’ve heard of but never actually heard, and others where I’ve heard a song here and there but not the whole concert. I’ve spent part of this spring break afternoon listening to some of the early stuff and the band sounds really amazing. There’s a performance of “Twenty-One” where the band has to stop b/c of a broken guitar string (Glenn’s I’m guessing) and the guys are kind of jamming along and ad-libbing while it gets taken care of. I can’t wait to hear more when I get a chance.

Hi! Has anyone ever come across a recording of the June 28, 1977 Eagles show in Knoxville, TN? This was the show that Randy's alleged refusal to sing "Take It to the Limit" resulted in a physical confrontation with Glenn backstage.

A friend found a review of the show in the local newspaper that mentions they did indeed perform Take It To The Limit. He or she (Billie Farthing is the author's name) even used it in the title of the 7/2/1977 review. OK, maybe Farthing made a mistake or heard something that wasn't actually played (the latter has happened to me, no drinking or drugs required). But the reviewer seems a careful, detailed sort of person.

Do you think this bears further investigation? It could modify Eagles lore. Maybe Glenn was upset that Randy didn't want to sing his trademark song for the finale. Or maybe the fight was about something else.

No comment on the event itself, but a little poking on Google... I believe Billie J Farthing is female, named after her father William James Farthing (found his obituary). I found her yearbook, she graduated in 1976. And, I believe she is now a lawyer in Johnson City, TN. Of course, this is all hearsay coming from me.

(That was fun... now I need to get back to work.)

How cool! Good detective work. She was just a slip of a girl, 17 or 18, writing with such confidence.

TBH - I don't think this would necessarily be revisionist history. I never recall hearing whether or not Randy actually ended up performing the song or not. I just took it that Randy and Glenn got into the argument because Randy didn't want to sing the song (which wasn't the first time). I never recall them saying whether he did or didn't end up singing it that night. It's possible that after the argument, Randy did end up singing it.

I don't know where I got it, but I've always assumed from what I had read in various places that he did go ahead and perform the song. I'll have to go back and re-read!
