This still hasn't sunk in, I've been in a daze ever since.
I can't believe someone started a thread asking if they're splitting up, how insensitive can you get? As if any of the band are even thinking about that after the loss of a friend and colleague they've known for a lifetime. Deep down the rest of us know the answer, I didn't post in that thread because this really isn't a time for anger.
As others have said I also hope there's some kind of tribute show at some point, but I can't imagine that being for quite some time, it would be pretty difficult for them to perform while it's so raw and have to face a crowd who would all be in tears. Releasing a HOTE live DVD would be a fitting tribute and I hope it does happen.
He left us with some pretty awesome memories ...
I think that the emotional and mental anguish I've been feeling because of Glenn's death are now taking a physical toll as well. A 3rd night in a row of about 3 hours sleep. Plus, now my stomach is hurting( cramping and burning, I've had diarrhea, and I feel mildly nauseous now. I think that eventually my body will crash. (I hope)

An article regarding the medications for rheumatoid arthritis or ulcerative colitis compromising the immune system’s ability to fight off pneumonia.

For days I have been trying to figure out how it all fit together and this explained it a bit more clearly ..
Another significant part of the article makes me so sad: Glenn was a brave soul indeedDr. Marc I. Leavey, an internal medicine specialist at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore (who did not treat Frey), told TheWrap that medications for rheumatoid arthritis or ulcerative colitis can compromise the immune system’s ability to fight off pneumonia.
“The medications used for rheumatoid arthritis or ulcerative colitis can interfere with the normal immune response needed to fight an infective agent, such as a pneumonia, again leading to disaster,” Leavey said.
Even the disease can lead to life-threatening conditions, Leavey cautioned.
“Rheumatoid arthritis, itself, can produce a condition which can allow ulcerative colitis, pneumonia, or both to become serious enough to threaten a life,” Leavey noted.
“Whether due to the disease or the medications used to treat them, the combination of rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and pneumonia is one which would likely require maximal medical effort to fight,” he added.
Despite having grappled with such a debilitating disease for so many years, Jacobs said Frey could very well have had his functional periods, such as tours, interviews and television shows, without the public being aware.
“It does wax and wane, and there can be times when you’re faking it pretty well, and nobody knows,” she explained.
However, she noted, that activity would probably have come at a price.
“It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if, after he finished whatever he did, he collapsed for three, four days a week,” Jacobs said

I got an email from someone in his camp 2 hours before the news broke. That email still described him as "seriously ill", so either they hadn't heard yet or he was still alive at that point.
TMZ is desperately eager to get the scoop, as they did here. They will break the news as soon as possible. I don't think he'd been gone very long before they published their report, and that was at 4:48 NY time (1:48 Pacific).
VOL, the East Coast is ahead of Pacific time, not behind.
Soda, I was just coming back to correct my time zone mistake! Haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet...and like everyone else, the reality is still sinking in. In any event, even if a statement had been prepared in advance I would expect the family and band members would have delayed the announcement for a respectable number of hours before releasing the news and given themselves some time to grieve & console one another. There are a lot of questions that may go unanswered for a long time.
Take care of you!

I spend a lot of time on the web. The first site that had an article about Glenn's death was TMZ. They even had their "Exclusive" banner. Other outlets didn't have the story for maybe 20 to 30 minutes. Since I have the band members sites bookmarked I checked and found the same statement on each of their sites. This probably means a publicist or someone working for Irving had the statement ready for publication.
As someone who has RA, I can tell you that Glenn was dealing with a large amount of pain and discomfort. The treadmill for auto-immune patients is a never ending series of ever changing drugs and treatments. The side effects can be devastating (elevated risk of Cancer).
I'm impressed that Glenn was able to sing and play like he did. One common thread in RA is off and on-again depression when the disease flares. It's also an expensive disease. One statistic I read says there is more spent yearly on RA than is spent treating Cancer. Just think of how many times you see RA treatment commercials on TV. This is for a disease that effects something like 13 million Americans.
