Nice idea for a thread.
My UK one was Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet. Meh. My US one was Stay (I Missed You) by Lisa Loeb - never heard of either the singer or the song.
This thread has reminded me of something I found a few months ago. My parents bought The Times (of London) on my date of birth and kept it as a memento, but my Mum got it out and showed to me last year. As it was a Friday it had the music reviews and the UK album charts. I was very pleased to find there was a review of Neil Young's Sleeps With Angels album (IMO one of his best latter-day releases), which was also second in the chart. But I was even happier when I saw who was in fifth!
I was born a few months too late for Pink Floyd's The Division Bell and a few months too early for Hell Freezes Over, although I'm still pretty chuffed that they were released in my year of birth. I was also born less than fortnight before the seismic release of the Oasis debut album Definitely Maybe, which became the UK's fastest selling debut album at the time.
JCL - I love that song by Lisa Loeb (I feel so old )
My number ones are :
UK - My Sweet Lord - George Harrison (a real hippy trip but I love it !!)
US - One Bad Apple - Osmonds (Never heard of this song ?)
"The more I know, the less I understand...."
Don't crack up, bend your brain, see both sides, throw off your mental chains"
Papa Don't Preach - Madonna (US)
I Want to Wake Up With You - Boris Gardiner (UK)
I knew the first but never heard of the latter. However, my Mom to this day swears it was "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and Waves as she only remembers hearing that song leading up to the day I was born. LOL
Ooh, I love My Prayer by the Platters - swoon city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDlcqhlzDqQ
My number 1's... no, I'm too ancient.
