Sadly, Dan Folgelberg passed away today from prostate cancer at the very young age of 56. I have been a fan of his for many years without ever realizing he had an Eagles connection. "Longer" is just hauntingly beautiful; "Leader of the Band," written in homage to his father, reminds me of my father as well; and "Same Auld Lang Syne" has a wistful sadness that gets me every time I hear it. Anyway, according to my Google Alert, apparently Dan was one of the very first name acts managed by Irving Azoff. I read this quote from Dan on his website:
------------------------------------------------------
Is it true you were asked to join the Eagles?
No, I was never asked to join the Eagles, I was considered among many others when they were re-organizing the group before the “On The Border” album. Don Henley asked if I would be interested, and after a long discussion I think we both realized that I wouldn’t be the right choice. They were moving in one direction and I was heading in another. Eventually Joe Walsh got the job.

Rest in peace, Dan. You will be missed.
