Default Cover Version of "Hearts on Fire"

The other thread made me curious about a cover of this song by "K. Brooks"-not Kix Brooks like I was thinking but Karen Brooks. She's an 80s country artist but I don't remember her, even though she had a couple of hits, including a duet with TG Shepard that went to #1.

    Here it is.

Delilah, you are finding rare treasures left and right - thank you so much! You're a wizard, girl.

She stuck really close to Randy's arrangement (even those cute "woo-hoo" vocal tags at the end of lines in the second verse) and she has a nice voice. However, she didn't let loose enough. She didn't sing it with fire like the Randstar.

    Nice try though.

NMB, that's kind of you to say. YT and Wiki should really get the credit, lol.

I noticed those "woo-hoos" too and that she stayed close to the original. This was during the waning years of country pop, which seemed to be her niche. The title of the album is Hearts on Fire as well, and peaked at #40.

I'm just really tickled that a Grammy-winning recording artist with chart hits covered a Randy solo song. I don't think that happened often with the Eagles. The only other one that comes to mind is Timothy's "Tell Me What You Dream" (did he ever record that himself?).

Anyway, it's another acknowledgment of Randy and his talent.

It was 1984? Interesting. I wonder if it was the producer who chose that song. I just don't hear the singer connecting with it emotionally too much.

I listened to her cover of "The Way to Make a Broken Heart" out of curiosity and I thought the same thing. It just doesn't have the same heart and emotion of Rosanne Cash's version. I don't want to disparage her talent though. She has a nice voice. Maybe it was the production.

ETG, I totally agree--Randy's version is awesome!

Oops, I forgot "You're Not Drinking Enough" was covered by Earl Thomas Conley, who had a big hit with it. I don't believe Don H wrote that one though.
