If you’re not using a 3rd-party hosting site for your pics, like Imgur or postimage, then another way is use the attachment link in the toolbar above the message box (see the paper clip link).

Sorry, it’s just text, no link. Did you try clicking on the paper clip? You should be taken to an attachment page where you can attach your pictures. Also, try the image icon (the one that looks like a picture of a mountain).
