    Default Oscar Night

Anyone going to watch the Oscar show on Sunday? I will tape it since it's starting in the middle of the night. But definitely want to watch it since I've learned Keith and his beautiful wife will be sitting in the first row.

I will definitely be watching it. I am an awards show junkie and I love movies. I must admit I haven't seen most of the nominated movies this year so I won't have as much of a vested interest in the winners as in other years, however.

I never go and see movies anymore, so it's not as much fun as it used to be to watch the Oscars. I might watch a bit of it.

We never go to the movies anymore either. We wait till they are out on pay per view. It would have to be a pretty special one to go to the theater for.

I watch most of the awards shows, too. I like to see the stars all dressed up. I love to read the comments later and the E shows such as their "Best" and "Worst" lists. They are usually pretty hilarious. Some of them are down right mean! But still funny!

I hear you, but there is just something exciting about going to a movie right when it opens, like each new installment of the Harry Potter movies, and sharing the experience with a theater full of people. By the time it gets to pay-per-view or video, you have heard people talking about it for months and know most of the plot points. Heck, most trailers these days show more of the movie than I want to know! I want to see a movie fresh and be surprised. I like smart comedies (not the kind that seem to overrun the theaters these days), well-crafted love stories, and thrillers and mysteries where I can't second guess the ending. Then, if I really like a movie, I will rent or buy it when it comes out on video and enjoy it all over again.

The next movie I am really looking forward to is the new Indiana Jones film.

As far as the Oscars go, I am pulling for Juno to win in almost any category where it is nominated. It is a sweet sleeper of a movie with characters that are quirky & real, and I recommend it highly.

Like you DF, I haven't seen most of the nominated films. But I'm not interested much in that rather want to see the more shallow things like dresses, good looking men etc.
Oh, I didn't know a new Indiana Jones is coming up. I love these films.
Has anyone seen the new film with Johnny Depp? I've heard it's like a horror comedy/musical.

Yes, I saw Johnny Depp's new film, EF--it is called Sweeney Todd. I love him and I love musicals, so I did like it a lot. However, it is an unusual musical because the character he plays is wronged early in the film and he spends the rest of his time getting even. It has a lot of theatrical-type bloody scenes so it's not for everyone, but Johnny gives his usual fantastic performance. And, he sings quite well, too.

BTW, hubby & I saw George Clooney in "Michael Clayton" last night, and it was also very good. I have loved George ever since his ER days, and he gives a very controlled, understated performance here as a man fighting the corporate system.

Ok, when it's good then I want to see Sweeney Todd too as well as Michael Clayton. This film is also nominated for an Oscar, right? I think we get to see a lot of good looking man tomorrow.

Just finished watching the Oscars. I was disappointed that Johnny Depp did not win, AGAIN. The man is vastly underrated! Daniel Day Lewis already has an Oscar--I wanted Johnny to have a turn. I was happy that Diablo Cody, the woman who wrote the very original screenplay for Juno, won the Oscar in her category, though.

Lots of gorgeous dresses. It will be interesting to see the Best Dressed lists tomorrow. Katherine Heigle (sp?) from Gray's Anatomy was probably my favorite of the night--in her red gown, with her blonde curls, she looked very classically "Hollywood Beautiful."

I only saw snippets of the show. I was glad the girl who did the Edith Piaf movie won - she was really excellent. Did anyone else see that movie? I highly recommend it. We go to the movies quite a lot and I had seen most of the movies up for an award. Old Country for Old Men deserved its praise and, as usual, Daniel Day-Lewis is always excellent. Poor Johnny - I loved Sweeney Todd.
