Sad. Here's UCR's piece.

Last time I heard Drive, it was Aimee Mann's version in a TV show (it was the best thing about the show in fact) and I remember reading how it became the perfect song for Live Aid.

Very hard these past few days with both Eddie Money and Rik Ocasek The Cars were a good band. debut album is awesome. My favorite songs by them were "all mixed up" "hello again". "Moving in stereo" "good times roll" "dangerous type" "drive"
Here's more on cause of death. Unexpected.

Wow - Another terrible loss. I had no idea that Ric was 75 years old. My heart goes out to his loved ones and his fans. I love Drive and even though he didn't sing lead on the song, he did write it. He was very talented.

Very sad. I had no idea he was 75. RIP, Good Sir.
So glad he lived long enough for The Cars to be inducted into the Rock and Roll HoF. It’s a shame Benjamin Orr did not. I agree their debut album is awesome, one of the best ever.
RIP Ric Ocasek

I recalled my mother-in-law had once mentioned that she was friends with one of the musicians in The Cars, and he had given them passes to see Live Aid, which was a big benefit concert I believe around the mid-80s. What I found so interesting about her recollection, is the detail she provided on precisely where she was standing during different songs -- as If it somehow mattered. She told me how her and her friend were having such a great time, that they kept moving around where they wanted to stand during the show. She said they were able to stand directly in front of the stage to the left as you faced the stage, and during othersongs they watched from the backstage on the other side of the stage.
Anyhow, when I read about Rick Ocasek, I asked her if she had any memories of him, and she just shrugged her shoulders and said she had never really met him.It turns out that she knew a guy named Ben who was in the band, and she never really met any of the other musicians in the group. I asked her if she dated him, and she said that at the time of the concert they were just friends, and they were both in relationships with other people, but they briefly dated a few years later.
Sadly, her friend died a number of years ago.
