Today is the lady's 72nd birthday. While she has struggled with health issues lately, it sounds like she's making the best of the situation.

Here's an article about her from May of this year, from the SF Chronicle:

Love Linda Ronstadt - such a beautiful person inside and out. Thanks CAinOH for the post. Happy Happy Birthday to a beautiful, talented courageous lady.

Does anyone know who sings back-up with Linda on Silver Threads and Golden Needles? It sounds like a male voice and I was wondering if it was an Eagle! The album the song is on credits Glenn and J.D. as singing harmony, but it doesn't say who sang what on which song. It doesn't sound like Glenn to me, I can usually pick out his voice. Does anyone know?

According to Wikipedia, Glenn sings on "The Fast One", but no mention who is singing background on any of the other songs.

ETA: I found a listing for Linda Ronstadt Greatest Hits, and assuming it's the same as on the other album, here is the info:

    Silver Threads And Golden Needles
Acoustic Guitar, Backing Vocals – Herb Pedersen
    Bass – Mike Bowden
    Drums – Mickey McGee
    Electric Guitar – Richard Bowden
    Fiddle – Gib Guilbeau
    Steel Guitar – Ed Black
    Tambourine – Linda Ronstadt
    Written-By – D. Reynolds*, J. Rhodes*

Thanks, CAinOH! That's disappointing, I always wonder if the backing vocals are the Eagles with her early stuff. The version I have is from her greatest hits, so definitely not them then.

Linda will be releasing her first ever live album next month. It will include her cover of “Desperado.”

This is good news after she had to cancel her upcoming speaking tour due to health concerns. I hope she is feeling better now.

Thanks for the heads up and, of course, I wish Linda the best.

Linda will have an interview piece on CBS Sunday Morning, with Jane Pauley. It is this Sunday, 2/3. The show airs from 9-10:30 and I have scheduled a recording so I won't miss it!
