Default Glenn and Joe on the GolfChannel

Last night I was channel surfing right after the football game got out of hand, and I heard the names Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh, but had missed most of what they said. Of course, I continued to listen and figured out that it was the intro to a show on the GolfChannel called the Sprint Post Game. Needless to say, I ran to get a blank tape to stick in the VCR to try to catch what it was about. I was lucky because I ended up getting the whole thing on tape when they reaired the program later last night. Glenn and Joe put on a private concert in Maui at the Kapalua Golf Resort on Friday night for players and guests at the Mercedes Championship PGA tour event. Interestingly, they were introduced as "Original founding members of the Eagles - Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh." They showed a clip of them performing Walk Away and Glenn gave a short interview. The only others that I recognized in the clip were Scott and Will. There were two other guitar player that I didn't recognize - but no Steuart. I'm pretty sure the bass player was the same guy that played on Glenn's "Live in Dublin" concert, but I don't know his name. I couldn't tell if any of the "Mighty Horns" were there. In Glenn's interview, he said playing for the world's best golfers "makes us want to play our best at what we do." He talked about how writing songs was like golf - it's not really a team sport and you have to constantly look inside and challenge yourself to do your best, get momentum, and make birdies. He ended by saying "That's all we wanna do in life is make birdies." Right - Glenn!

So interesting! So it was just Glenn and Joe then and not all of the Eagles? Lisa was saying in chat last night that she was told all of the Eagles were there, but it sounds like she was a bit misinformed. I'm so glad you got it recorded! Do you think there's any way you could copy that tape?

It's interesting he said that writing's not really a team sport since he co-writes almost everything. But No More Cloudy Days was not a joint venture. Maybe he's moving away from that?

Sounds a great snippet to have recorded. Isn't it amazing how our ears can pick up a mention of Glenn, or Joe, Tim or Don? Looking forward to more news!

Grrrr, my husband had the Golf Channel on yesterday in between watching football - but I was too busy to pay attention. He must not have been watching at the right time -coz if he had and didn't call me into the room - and I found out - well, let's just say it could get ugly!

Soda - I'll be glad to dub the VHS tape and send it you. I'm going to send L&M a copy as well. As you know, I don't have the software to burn DVDs. Hopefully, if I can get decent quality, we can get it on a site so everyone can see it. If not, I can dub copies for anyone that wants it. It's not that long, but it is pretty good. Glenn looked really good (I know that surprizes all of you). He was wearing jeans and a black tee shirt (another surprize), but no cover shirt. Now, why can't he do that in Eagles concerts! The teeshirt had a white logo on the front across the right side of his chest. I stared at it many times, but can't make out what it says. I didn't see any evidence of a paunchy belly either, but they could've used some "trick" photography.

gf001 and Molly - I have NEVER watched the GolfChannel in my whole life until last night. Actually, I hardly even turn the television on at all here lately. But I immediately heard those two names and my world came to an immediate halt! I must've redeemed myself for all of the comments in the Quarterback thread, because somebody was looking out for me. Talking about being in the right place at the right time - and then, I got double lucky that they replayed it so that I could get the two sentences I missed the first time on tape. You are right - if hubby saw that and didn't tell you, you have a major problem that will have to be dealt with. I hope for his sake, he is innocent!!!!

The comment he made about songwriting not being a team sport, my take on what he may have been saying is that even when you collaborate on a song, it still is something where you have to draw from your own personal experiences, etc. In other words, a team is group of individuals working toward a single goal (i.e. winning). Personal experience doesn't necessarily matter when you are working for the good of the team. When collaborating in songwriting, I guess you bring more individual, personal experience to the process. It's a fine line, but I can see a difference. I'm not sure if my way of explaining it makes any sense though.

Soda - I was adding some more comments to my original post because I forgot a few things. I'll send you a "goody bag" of stuff sometime this week.

I just realized that the link I put in the karaoke thread probably is better to put here!

Amazing, the wonders of modern technology! Dreamer catches this on TV and records it, Soda rips it to DVD and now we can all see it on our computers. Thank you all so much!

I love that guitar riff at the end where they are both really getting in to it! The white pattern on Glenn's shirt looks like a Hawaiian surfing wave to me. Any other ideas?
