Dana, that is wonderful news!!! I'm sure your daughter is on cloud 9 and you and your husband are breathing a sigh of relief.

What is she going to study?

Dana, that is awesome news! I have a son in college (he's smart enough, but sure never came up with any scholarships like that!) and I have a good idea how much $ this is going to save you!

Just think.....now you can get that VIP deal we were all wishing for and as many concert tickets for the next tour as you might want!

Well, Brooke, we absolutely don't have any money lying around that I can justify spending on that VIP Grammy deal (don't I wish!) but let's just say that now I will feel a little bit better when I buy several VIP Eagles concert tickets!

Dana, congratulations to Rachel for getting into her university of choice and for the scholarship, that's brilliant! There seem to be a few of us who have children starting out this year.

That's great Dana. Congratulate her for me.

I'm not good at these topics - as I said I lead a quiet life. I have just about finished my Christmas shopping so that's one thing I guess.

Well done on the shopping, Julie! I just about started mine today with a brief foray into Plymouth. Most of mine will be done on line - good old Amazon!

On the work front, my outpatient clinic and inpatient ward have moved into a brand new building, on the same site. It has been designed without any consultation with the end users, and there are a lot of problems that we will have to address, but by and large it is an improvement on the old facilities.

On the home front, younger son, aged 16, has been invited to an awards evening for achievement at his school. This is something our family is not used to!

You guys have such clever kids!

Our family is trying something new this year, at the suggestion of my younger sister's husband - instead of buying a small gift or every member of the family, buy one big gift for one person. I was told that I would buy for, coincidentally, my younger sister and her husband! I can see how it makes financial sense, but it seems a bit strange to me. I'm going to buy some small and inexpensive gifts for the others even if I'm not supposed to.

We used to do something similar to that, Nancy. Eventually, it turned into kind of a game. We would exchange names, and then get that person two gifts -one "real" gift and the other would be some kind of gag or joke gift. It got very competitive with everyone trying to top each other!
