My mom has a lot of history of my father's side of the family that dates back generations that is really interesting. She has managed to keep in touch with several relatives in Germany that she communicated with when finding the info.

Wow Germany, that's great!
My mom has somewhere in America some family, but she doesn't know them at all (a brother from her uncle or something like that). Actually I hope someday that I meet them and that I'm able to fly over to the USA and see you guys and of course the boys!

MH, I am so sorry about your friend . She must have felt very alone and frightened.

Good luck to all of our members who are returning to their schools and colleges this week, or whose kids are. I hope everyone has a fruitful year. GEF, I hope your son enjoys his well - deserved break after all the hard work he has put in.

My mom and sister did an extensive family history about 15 years ago culminating in a huge family gathering in Co Meath in 1994 and the publication of a small book about the family. And that was before the internet!! Good luc to those embarking on such a project.

GAN- Wow! before the internet! thats a lot of leg work! Good for them! A very distant cousin did the same thing for a part of my family about 15 or 20 generations back (but that doesnt seem that far when you actually get into it)

We have a huge family gathering every year up at our cabin property. It lasts about 3 days wioth a lot of people camping and some of them styaying at the cabin or the bunk house or getting a room in town. It started as my sisters memorial (about 12 years ago) and one of her requests was that it be an annual family thing, so its up to about 70 people and it's a blast! We just had it a few weeks ago and we're heading up there again for the last hurrah of the summer, labor day weekend. Kind of sad to lock the place up for the winter. I'll post a picture of it sometime. IMHO it's the most beautiful place on earth *grin*
