Default did DH ever mention the etymology of

the group? My guess is that when they were formed in late 1971/early 1972, there target demographic was the peyote smoking, new age-y person living in the rocky mountains who was a nature-worshiper and enjoyed looking at the western sky for hours on end. For those type of people, there animal of choice would probably be the eagle, so that would be a logical name.

I don't know why you refer to DH specifically. I don't know who exactly came up with it but Glenn liked it because he thought it sounded like a street gang. The others liked the mystical western imagery & the fact that it was the national bird.
