I've not done it, but you can google "trading-card" displays. You know, the old "baseball cards"? They make single card holders with a plastic or acrylic foot on them to stand them on end tables for display. I've used frame versions of these to display "jokers" out of decks of playing cards that I got from casinos. You might be able to do something with them.
Here is an eBay listing for something similar to what I'm talking about:
http://cgi.ebay.com/10-Black-Foldable-Trading-Card-Sport-Card-Display-Stand_W0QQitemZ400002095749QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_S M_Sports_Cards?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
Or, if you really wanted to get fancy, here's one that has a wooden block for "feet" and a metal plate that the seller will engrave as part of the price:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sports-Card-or-Photo-stand-Personalized-engraved-Plate_W0QQitemZ190270242490QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item190270242490&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|2 93:1|294:50
Yet another option is to go with a display made specifically for guitar picks:
http://www.tinytreasures.com/Level_2/Inserts/Guitar/guitar.htm
Those should give you some ideas anyway.

My pleasure Gary. I personally prefer the individual holders in the little table easels. They are clear on both sides so anyone could pick one up off the easel and examine it and replace it with no damage to the pick from handling.
The wall frames are great for displaying one side of the picks, but even if they were "see through" you would have to remove the frame from the wall. It lacks "convenience".

Gary, I would be glad to upload them for you, however, it would be better if you could do it yourself and create your own albums in your own profile. But first, how large are your individual "pick photos"? There is a maximum, size limit of 800x600. So, if they are larger than that, you would need to resize them to reduce them to that resolution.
But if they are at least that small, or if you can make them that small, uploading them is about as easy as it can get on a forum the way Soda has it set up here.
Look up in the upper right hand part of the screen were it says "Welcome ochiba kid". Click on your user name and the software will take you to your "profile".
Once there, look to the right and you will see "Albums". It will not have anything in it but you should be able to click on something in that frame that will let you "Add Album".
After clicking on "Add Album" you will need to give the album a name (like "Pick Collection") and then a brief description in the box provided.
After you "SUBMIT" the information, you should be presented with the option of "Upload Pictures". I believe you can add three at a time by pressing the "Find Picture" or "Browse" buttons by the blank entry bars. That will bring up an "Explorer Window" just as you use when you are searching for things on your hard drive. Just locate the picture you wish to upload and click on it. It will fill in the file location on the "Upload" page here. At that time, you can either add another couple of pictures or you can submit the upload.
Really, that's all their is to it. At that point, you can just tell folks here on the forum to check out your profile and look at your album and we will be able to browse those photos you uploaded.
If I've missed anything, It's because I'm doing this from memory. But I think it is th essence of the upload process. Good Luck and if you run into problems, just yell out! Someone will give you a hand and if you wish, you can always ship me the pick pictures and I'll take care of it. But If I do that, they would appear under MY PROFILE instead of YOURS.
Oh, BTW....Everyone on the forum has a Profile with information and possibly pictures they have elected to share with other forum members. To view anyone's profile, just click on their name in the left side of the message window.

Most Excellent Gary! Do you recall the dates from which those Felder picks originated? I still need to find picks used by Schmit, Felder, Meisner and Leadon. Your's is a very impressive collection!

After going through all that "upload cookbook", I forgot that you could go to "User CP" which is on the options bar at the top of each page. When you get there, there is an option under "Network Options" to "Edit Albums". From there you can "Add" an album or select an existing album and add pictures to it.
Oh well, I'm still learning the mechanics of The Border myself. You done just fine though and I envy your pick collection. Mine is no where near that good.
Okay, I've got to sound really stupid (wow, that would be a FIRST wouldn't it!)
Who is Spider Smith. Not Stu I presume.

I am sure I read somewhere that 'Spider' was Steuart's nickname at one time. If that's him, obviously he's a lot younger there.

Yeah, that pic is Stu...1961. He's been around <LOL> but I've never heard him called Spider. And haven't seen anything recent that used that nickname. It wouldn't surprise me at all though if that nickname was his.
But then Stu has been a session player for many MANY years and is one of the best at that demanding task. The name could well be one that recording artists used in reference to him. I'd like to be able to verify it though.

My pick guy tells me that Spider Smith was indeed Stu Smith, this pick was from a solo gig that Henley did in 2004 and Stu was used as main man on the guitar for these gigs, not sure when and where the gigs were though ?
Thanks Gary
PS thanks for the extra help again Mike, will try to digest at a later date, got brain freeze at present as well as 8" of snow outside DOH!! no work today Woh Ho !!:yay::yay:

I have read that Stu uses a technique known as "pinch harmonics" and is a master at it. That is a very difficult trick...I know, I've tried to develop it and am not good at it at ALL.
Billy Gibbons (ZZ-Top) uses it quite a bit and you may have heard Stu doing it without realizing what it was. When he is in a solo and you hear a very high pitched SCREAM come out of a particular note, that's it. It requires perfect timing in that while fretting a note with his left hand, he pluck or picks that note with his right hand and almost simultaneously touches the string with his right thumb. This touches off the "harmonic" that you hear instead of the normal note. What makes this even more difficult is that it matters WHERE he plucks or picks that screaming note. The location of the harmonic position varries with the fret being pressed up on the neck. The harmonic is located "somewhere" between the bridge and the last fret on the neck and it is different for every fret position!
Joe harmonics too, but usually Joe is using natural harmonics instead of "pinch harmonics". I've heard him use them in "Midnight Man". There are three notes he hits in that song, one on the 12th fret, one on the 7th fret and one on the 5th fret....ironically, those harmonics are Highest down on the 5th fret and lowest on the 12th.

Hmmm, let me try another way to describe "harmonics" and how they can be played.
Virtually anyone with guitar in hand can produce natural harmonic notes....at least the easy ones with just a little practice.
If you are holding the guitar and strumming with your right hand and holding the strings down on the neck (fretting) with your left hand, you can play three harmonics pretty easily.
It takes a little technique though. Barely touch the high "e" string directly over the twelfth fret wire (the fret wires are the metal bars that go across the neck of the guitar). Now, pick the high "e" string and lift your left finger at the same time and you will hear the note ring out. On the 12th fret, the harmonic is the same note as though you had pressed the string down just behind the 12th fret bar or in other words, on the 12th fret. This is the easiest harmonic to produce and it works on all 6 strings on the 12th fret. It is one way that is used to make sure that the guitar is set up correctly. If it does not produce the identical note that the fretted 12th note produces, then the guitar needs to be adjusted down at the bridge to make the string shorter or longer until it does produce the same note.
Okay, you've made a harmonic on the 12th fret. You can produce harmonics natural harmonics on other frets too. The 5th fret amd 7th fret are probably the easiest and both produce notes much higher than the note that you might evoke by just pressing down on those two frets. However, you can also produce natural harmonics on the 3rd, 9th and 19th frets.
What Stu does is much more difficult. He might press a string down behind the 6th fret let's say, and when he plucks or picks the string, he almost simultaneously allows his thumb (or a thumb pick) to touch the string he just picked. This doesn't work unless it is done in exactly the correct place on the string with his right thumb. That exact position is different for every note made by the left hand up on the neck! He has to move his right hand between the end of the neck on the guitar and the spot where the string terminates down on the bridge of the guitar. There is about 7 inches separating the bridge and the neck so there is a lot of space there and only one tiny spot on the strings between bridge and the neck will produce that harmonic! I takes a lot of knowledge to know where those spots are well enough to utilize it in a song and it takes a lot of skill to be able to pull it off even if you do know where that spot is located.

One other thing I should mention about "harmonics" with the guitar. It is MUCH easier to "do" if you have a guitar with a hot bridge pickup. Flip to just that high output pickup and turn the distortion or gain as high as your guitar will go. That makes it MUCH easier to strike the harmonic "sweet spots" especially with the "pinch" method.
With that said, you can do it with an acoustic guitar, but it takes a lot more skill.

Some teacher! A Teacher's job is to support and encourage young people taking on a new experience and particularly with a hobby to emphasise the positive rather than dwell on what can't be improved. Quite a few of us here play guitar in an amateur way, and while we'll never be Joe Walsh (Well I won't anyway) we enjoy it. That was a dreadful thing to do to a 13 year old's self confidence and hopes. JMHO!!

Heh ho, that was the only thing at 13 years old that I had no self con on, everything else was great, actually if I could I would go back to any year in my life and live again, it would be 1983 when I was 13, great year apart from my musical tastes, you know the nasty 80's naff stuff, yes all of it, mind you some of it is still good.
Cheers Gary:thumbsup:

Never in my life have I ever discouraged anyone from attempting something good. And music especially whether as a player, listener or singer! You were very unfortunate to encounter someone with such a poor attitude at such a young age.

Thanks for the kind words guys, but I came to the conclusion years ago, you can't be good at everything, I am good at certain things, others are good at other things ? this is the way of the world, mind you I do often look at youtube and listen to the guys doing Hotel California tutorials, some of them are great and some are so so, but again Thanks
