I was getting my hair cut at the salon the other day and heard a snippet of Life In The Fast Lane, it must have been on the radio but I was talking to the hairdresser and couldn't pay attention to why it only played for a few seconds.

Then today I was in a bookstore and opened up the book Women Who Love Too Much, and literally on the first page I opened to, they had the lyrics to Victim of Love on the page!! I wanted to do this: :yay: LOL

This is unexpected and rather surreal--famed Chinese artist, activist and political dissident, Ai Wei Wei, is doing bad haircuts around Beijing, apparently as part of some abstract art project--or just to cheekily prove the point that people will endure even the baddest of haircuts if they can say a famous person did the cutting. Ayway, as he cuts this blogger's hair, you can hear "Hotel California" playing in the background.

could you all do me a favor? This is the classic rock station that plays between 4-9 Eagles songs a day. That in itself is pretty awesome but they could do more. could you all help me send in requests for someof the single guys like Dirty Laundry, Sunset Grill, New York Minute and Boys of summer and song of that nature? They do play The Heat is On sometimes.

I also woudl love for them to play stuff from Long Road out of Eden. If they got more requests they would comply.

Today must be OOTN album day.

I heard OOTN, TITTL, and LE today.

LE is starting to grow on me since the '77 concert DVD. For awhile it's just been too long and not enough to keep my attention. I like long songs if they keep my attention. I connect with the lyrics to HC and LITFL, for instance, a deep connection. I feel like I can relate to those lyrics although I really can't as they are about excess. Maybe it was my past life. But the words are starting to grow on me and the singing is great.. Guitar is mainly a background instrument in this one, which is 'meh' but it's a good song nonetheless.

As I was coming through security, I heard Boys of Summer. 5 minutes later, they are playing You Belong to the City :) Last week I was driving deep in the night in Indiana trying to get to my hotel after a hellacious trip, and heard Dirty Laundry. One of the two radio stations I listen to would not play a huge amount of Eagles music, but they do play some good stuff, so I do listen. However this week they are giving away HOTE DVDs, so they had a competition where you had to identify one of three opening lines given - Of course I managed to identify them all but the computer didn't pick me. They were LE, HC and TIE! (kinda no brainer songs really).

However the DJ followed up the competition with both 'How Long' and 'Busy Being Fabulous'. It was so refreshing to hear these on the radio again after so long.

I knew that Danielle would win...It's the typical country girl singer...cute, blonde & young! She has a good voice, but I still wanted the Swon Brothers to win it.
I'm hoping that Blake Sheldon will help them out...They have had a lot of exposure now, & they also write their own music....unlike Danielle who will have a team of hit making writers make her a star! She's the next Carrie Underwood.

As most of you know, I'm in the Louisville area on a business trip and trapped in a car with no satellite radio. It was preset to a Classic Rock station, so I just left it there. This morning on the way to the office, 45 minutes worth, the DJs talked the entire time. Not a single song except for their promo of giving away tickets to the Eagles show next week (they're doing that on Thursday) and their snippet of HC was the only music played. Then this evening they played all of HC followed by Dirty Laundry. Nice.

So last week when I was with my coworkers, Best of My Love came on and me and the guy I like were slow dancing/cuddling to it, so it reminds me of him now when I hear it. I've been trying to decide what to do about him regarding "us"...Well today I was in a gourmet kitchen store and I almost wasn't going to stop there because I missed the exit but I turned around and went back and when I got in there, Best of My Love was playing! I am taking that as a sign! :)

ALA, you remind me of myself a couple weeks ago when I went to my niece's wedding. At the reception, the DJ was taking requests. I wanted him to slow it down so that I could dance with my husband, so I requested BOML. The dance floor filled with couples enjoying the music. As Hubby and I danced, I realized that maybe BOML isn't the best song to be played at a wedding reception. As beautiful as it is, it's a breakup song! :hilarious: But, everybody on the dance floor seemed to be enjoying it!

lol Yeah I know it's about a breakup, I guess when we were slow dancing to it, he was too drunk to hear the lyrics, it was a slow song about love, thats all that was necessary! :hilarious:

and i'm sure everyone at the wedding reception was drunk too so, they didn't care! lol

And, it actually sounded a lot better than it does on the CD, which I can only think is because it's not shown up by better Eagles songs... :eyebrow:

I seldom post here because in our area, we hear the Eagles all the time on the local radio stations BUT this time, it's what they played instead of the usual hits.....Saturday night, we had The Drive 97.1 out of Chicago on the radio on the patio before switching over to our usual vinyl and they were having a "Deep Tracks" weekend and played Teenage Jail and Greeks Don't Want No Freaks.

I was driving around at lunchtime the other day. Being a bit bored, I decided to play a game which I unimaginatively named "How long 'til I can find an Eagles song on the radio."

Now my car radio has two sets of FM presets (5 stations each). The first set - my main presets - has 3 stations which might realistically play an Eagles song. I quickly scanned through them. No luck. The last station was playing "La Grange" by ZZ Top.

My second set of presets has fewer good stations and really there was only one that could possibly play the Eagles. I switched over to it. Sadly, it was playing Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me" (oh, early days of MTV, I remember you well...).

I let "Hold Me" play on. Toward the end I waited with bated breath to hear what would follow. Much to my dismay, it was a commercial.

At this point, I began to question the practicality of my new-found game. I was thinking to myself: "What did you really expect - that you would just flip through a couple stations and voila, there's an Eagles song?" Yep, I'm a little hesitant to admit it, but the practical, logical part of my brain beat the Eagles-fan part of my brain into submission. I decided to abandon "How long 'til I can find an Eagles song," for the time being anyway.

The only thing I had left to do was put my radio back to the primary set of presets, which I did. Of course, that meant changing to one of the primary-preset stations - the one which had been playing ZZ Top. Furthermore, they had to be playing something; and it just so happens that the something they were playing was the beginning of ...

... Already Gone

I was in a local store last Monday night and 'Seven Bridges Road' came on over the PA.

Yesterday, I heard 'Take It To The Limit' on a friend's car radio and 'Take It Easy' over a PA in Goodwill. Then this morning, I heard 'Take It To The Limit', the moment I started the car and the radio came on.

The classic rock station here is called 'The Eagle 107' (GREAT name btw! :-o8) )and I've had my car radio set on it all week. It seems that since the announcement of them playing here in Nov came along, this station has been playing them so much I feel like I'm in a 70's time-warp. I hear 'Take It To The Limit' on a daily basis now as well as 'One Of These Nights'. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

Here in Atlanta we have a great Classic Rock Station, 97.1 The River. While driving today they had a trivia question, 'What was the title of a Crosby, Still and Nash song released in 1982?' When they finally introduced the song as Southern Cross, I was so surprised to hear they threw a shout out to TIMOTHY B. SMITH as providing backup vocals for this song. Since the DJ obviously knows who he is, maybe they will play my "5 @ 5" songs I submitted that all had Timothy singing lead or backup! I know this was not actually an Eagles song, but I can't remember every hearing Timothy's name on the radio here in Atlanta.

This is a bit or a "reimagining" of this thread, but still counts as Eagles [influence] popping up in unexpected way...

The indie group, HAIM, a trio of sisters from L.A.. have long had comments that their music is tinged quite a bit with influences from the sounds of the mid/late-70s Southern California rock movement. They've also never been shy in saying they're big fans of the Eagles. From a 2009 interview: (http://www.losanjealous.com/2009/05/04/haim-at-the-troubadour/)

We usually start with a melody. We really like… we usually start with the verse and the chorus usually comes last. We like things that are really rhythmic. We all play drums, so everything is very kind of rhymicky and snappy. We really love a good pop hook. ["The Wire"] was influenced by The Eagles, which is weird because people dis us for liking The Eagles. I love them.

Well, their latest single released is "The Wire" (which I enjoy) and is is certainly VERY reminiscent of a certain Eagles' tune...Everytime it's played on radio or Sirius-XM, the Eagles are always mentioned. The debate is---it it an homage, or a ripoff?--you be the judge...

Take a listen here- (http://www.stereogum.com/1419472/haim-the-wire/mp3s/)-the comments are funny, because they totally rip into the post's original writer for missing the Eagles' rhythm track---T.Rex, really?

The beginning of the song is obviously 'influenced' by Heartache Tonight, but since the style of the song, the vocals and instruments sound nothing like HT, I would not call it a rip off.

I agree with you about the vocals and some of the instrumentals being different PM. But the drum instrumentation is much more blatant than just being 'influenced' by Heartache Tonight to me. I think it is unmistakable if pretty much everyone that hears it is immediately reminded of the song.

I was watching highlights of the Edinburgh Tattoo tonight, and the pipe band were playing Wild Mountain Thyme. I know it's not strictly an Eagles song, but I think you will get it!

Oh I certainly get it GEF!

And UTW! That was cool too! Nice to hear the Eagles alive and well in the British Isles!

Breakfast at The Land's End Hotel with background music and Heartache Tonight comes on. Most of the other guests were there for a wedding so I hope it wasn't a prediction!

Ha! Reminds me of my niece's wedding reception this past June, when I requested Best of My Love. :hilarious: I honestly wasn't thinking about the meaning of the song. I just wanted them to play something we could slow dance to!

Yeah - you keep requesting songs like that at wedding receptions, and I gotta feeling that you might see a decline in those invitations.

Lol! I don't think there are anymore weddings in the near future. It's just as well - most of the music played at wedding receptions nowadays makes my ears bleed.

I feel so old when I use the word 'nowadays'.

I heard Dirty Laundry tonight and Rocky Mountain Way yesterday on the radio. It was cool to just heard the first note of the song and go OMG that's Don. That's Joe.

Usually I would hear Dirty Laundry, The Heart of the Matter, Hotel California, Take IT Easy, Best of My Love, Lyin' Eyes(I heard it yesterday), Peaceful Easy Feeling and I Can't Tell You Why on the radio. Probably more.

Yesterday I was killing time in a dollar store waiting for my husband. As I was on my way out I heard HC begin to play. I had already checked out the entire store, but I did hang around another couple of minutes to hear some of the song.

Today I went with my hubby and a couple of friends to a nearby resort town. After some debate about where we would eat we decided on this pub which was nothing fancy. As we were eating everyone was saying that we made the right choice, that the food was very good. As that was being said, Lyin' Eyes started to play & I said, "The music's good here too!"

When I went back to my car after getting breakfast, they had The Heart of the Matter playing on the radio. I turned my volume up and started singing with Don. I hate the radio edit version. They take out some of the lines in the chorus. Its rare to hear the whole song on the radio.

Oh I bet it did Dreamer. Its as well they weren't playing the whole album or ou might have bought a lot more than you intended!

Today coming home from work I didn't like the song on the radio so I changed station ..... just on time to get NKIT in full. I then channel flicked again when it was over.... and caught Lyin Eyes in full on a different station. Finally heading out later on I caught NYM!

A good day to be an Eagles fan.

I like that, SC!

Yesterday on the drive home, I had SiriusXM/Classic Vinyl on. They played a snippet from an interview with Glenn where he said that OOTN was one of his personal favorites, then followed it with OOTN. I was a happy driver!! It was great hearing his voice and then my #1 Eagles song.

Later, they played Boys of Summer on Classic Rewind.

Its kinda funny. I heard the Eagles 4 times yesterday. As I was heading to work, Take It To the Limit came on.

Then as I was out yesterday, they played Eagles back to back. Like 30 minutes apart. First I heard I Can't Tell You Why. Or the solo part because they were about end the song. Then about 20 minutes later on another radio station, they played HC. Then the station that was playing I Can't Tell You Why earlier played HC on their station. I was like, they played them back to back yesterday afternoon.

I even did raise your arm thing Don does during the chorus. She wants to party. (Raise arm) Oh!!! She wants to get down. (Raise arm) Oh!!! I think the people next to me probably thought I was crazy. LOL

A radio station here in my city does Mystery Oldies where you guess the song by listening to the clip for like maybe 5 seconds and call in if you know the song. So one guy called in and said it was The Eagles "Take it Easy." I was like that's not the Eagles. The song was actually Sister Golden Hair by America. I don't know how he got Take It Easy from that. I heard Travis Tritt's version of Take It Easy on one of my country radio stations. That does count since the guys sing backup in the song. I rarely hear Travis' version on the radio.
