Strictly Come Dancing (UK DWTS) opened with an "american smooth" danced to Heartache Tonight. It seemed an odd combination but in a way rather neat that the first time I've watched it this season, they had an Eagles tune.
I don't know if they played an Eagles' song on the American version, but one season(I forgot which one), the contestant and the pro had the song Best Of My Love to dance the waltz too and they were like who are the Eagles. I was shocked that they didn't know who the Eagles were or that song. I think they end up not dancing to that song and used another song.

This morning I was driving to work and switched from the Christian music station I normally listen to (The Message) and put it on Classic Rewind. Journey was playing and I was thinking of switching to CD because I wanted to hear the Eagles, and I wanted to hear one that Don sings leads on. I was trying to decide which one I wanted to hear when Those Shoes came on the radio!

Just now as I mentioned in the 'what are you listening to' thread Hotel California came on the radio! Appropriate!

I had a wonderful drive home from work yesterday. Our classic rock station is paying tribute to Hotel California this week so they have been playing the album's songs plus some old interviews. Yesterday the interview was from @ 2007/2008 and Don H. said "there's a certain sound that we make together and I can't sound like that with anyone else."
I for one LOVE that sound! :hilarious:
Then I got to hear VOL, NKIT, WT, & HC. That commute just flew by!!

I loved it! Today they played Dirty Laundry, which was great, and right now as I was reading Dreamer's reply SiriusXM Holly is playing Please Come For Christmas. Of course, they say it's by The Eagles and not Eagles.

A couple of days ago I heard Please Come Home For Christmas in a supermarket - sadly it was not the Eagles version. I can't say I was a fan of it, I thought it was rather histrionic (it was a female singer - couldn't recognise the voice though). Ultimately it reinforced how much I like Don Henley's more understated vocal, I think one of PCHFC's greatest virtues is its organic sound and lack of gimmicks which I find quite refreshing compared to a lot of other modern Christmas songs.
One little story I do have is that the first time I ever heard Busy Being Fabulous was in a store - I recognised the voice as Don's and could hear the backing vocals and guitars which gave it the stamp of an Eagles song. A pleasant surprise, good to hear one of the less well known tunes (where I come from the main two radio staples seem to be Lyin' Eyes and Life In The Fast Lane, I've heard those several times each).

On my first day back to work this week after a christmas, new years and birthday staycation, I was awoken by my alarm with the radio station playing New Kid in Town! I was like aww what a nice surprise and a great way to brighten a day when I didn't want to be getting up at 5am!

Listening to Classic Rewind and the DJ just said about how the Eagles had rough show about a week ago, then went on to say what happened at Hanging Rock. Mentioned that Glenn had told everyone to 'get out of here' and that Don assured everyone they'd be back. Then returned 45 minutes later to play One of These Nights. Then he laughed and said it was a nice thing about the Eagles, always full of humor.
I guess he doesn't know that One of These Nights was merely next on the setlist! At any rate, he followed this up with playing LITFL.

It's been a great Eagles day on Classic Rewind (it was last weekend, too). They played HC a little while ago, then not much later Dirty Laundry. Now, they just played LITFL preceded by Glenn talking about the ride in the car and then Joe's lick during practice and that it was how the song came into being. They followed it with Bon Jovi and Wanted Dead or Alive. The DJ, Mark Goodman, then said about it being an outlaw song, and how he guessed the Eagles did the outlaw thing first. Then he paused and said he guessed Johnny Cash did it first. Made me laugh.

On the radio but unexpected.
Half asleep, I hear a song that sounds like the intro to I Can't Tell You Why then the vocals start and it is I Can't Tell You Why. and it's pretty good.
Sounds a bit like a cover of a cover but it's a potential hit to me, although I know nothing about contemporary Jazz.
DJ Mike Shaft puts it perfectly, "Originally done by The Eagles, a brand new version from DW3, that's one called I Can't Tell You Why.

Wasn't the entire song, but I was shocked to here some instrumental parts of Funk 49 on FoxSports tonight. Cincinnati Reds are considered 'home team', so the station I usually listen to is blacked out (my Bucs are playing the Reds), so this is the first I've watched Fox Sports since last year. I find it odd that they are using it considering ESPN uses/used Funk 50.

I was watching a BBC music documentary on "Easy Listening". Most of it was about the development of the instrumental "elevator" music, but as time went on, there was "easy listening" with vocals - mostly love songs - with people like Englebert Humperdink and the Carpenters. I think they were at the point of talking about crossover from the mainstream charts to the Easy Listening charts and they cited (and played) James Taylor and then a quick blast of "Take it Easy". I'm still not clear why it was there other than the "Easy" in the title as it didn't fit the format of everything that had gone before.
An aside: I had no idea how successful the Easy Listening format is. For example, pianist Richard Clayderman "As of 2006, his record sales number at approximately 150 million, and has 267 gold and 70 platinum albums to his credit."

To have the biggest selling album of the 20th Century, you have to have a toe in a few genres to attract a large cross section of the music-buying population. I'm not surprised Easy-Listening music fans enjoyed the Eagles too.
Even after they hired Joe, tracks like Wasted Time, Pretty Maids All In A Row and New Kid In Town are more M.O.R. than rock. I'm sure the Eagles get a lot of airplay on Smooth FM.
When I listen to Glenn's After Hours album, I'm fully aware that I'm enjoying music that I used to go out of my way to avoid.
I like to think that I'm older and wiser rather than just old
I see Bruce Hornsby is releasing a compilation album featuring a live version of The End Of The Innocence. I've never heard Bruce sing it. I hope Henley don't mind.

Why would Henley mind? They co-wrote the song, didn't they?
And I am sorry but New Kid In Town is not 'MOR'. I Can't Tell You Why, perhaps. But I hate the term being applied to the Eagles. I don't think it's true.

On the way to town, my mom is talking about stuff that I don't care about. (We'd just had an argument and I'm not in the best of moods. We don't get along well at all, and I prefer to keep "chit chat" with her to a minimum). Anyway, as she's talking about stuff, I'm in la la land, not caring. I began to hear Lyin Eyes playing, and at first, I thought that my mind was playing tricks with me. It wasn't. Sure enough, I'm hearing the song for real, so I turn up the radio to try and help me relax and cool off. It would have worked if my mom didn't start talking louder :brickwall: :brickwall:. Not a new story but I don't think I've mentioned this before and it's a good one I think!
When on holiday last summer in Spain at the hotel I was staying at with my family, there was always some form of entertainment outside every evening. This varied from night to night - they had traditional flamenco dancers one night, for instance - but on one evening there was a guitarist playing songs, mostly in English, playing (if I remember rightly) a Fender Stratocaster. After playing a few songs, he started playing a rather familiar guitar introduction - Hotel California! He played the full song and did a very decent job on the solos. The song was reworked so as to include the name of the hotel in the chorus (it scanned quite well fortunately) and although a couple of the lyrics weren't quite right it was a highly enjoyable performance.
He also played the Dire Straits song So Far Away, With A Little Help By My Friends and IIRC a couple of Santana tunes as well. It was definitely my favourite of the events they put on, that's for sure, but HC was the clear highlight as far as I was concerned.

Last night, while waiting on the fireworks to start, my mom and I were listening to the radio. Due to our location, the only station that we could get in was an oldies station that plays hits from the 50s-80s. This station had a theme going of "all songs American or Summer related". (Songs like God Bless the USa by Lee Greenwood, Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett or We're an American Band by Grand Funk Railroad). I was taken aback when I heard the opening intro to Boys of Summer. (It fits in with the summer theme). Surprisingly, I didn't hear any Eagles songs!

Just watched the premiere of "American Horror Story: Hotel," and the song that played before the end credits was HC. Given the storyline is about a haunted hotel, I guess it's not that far fetched the song was included in the soundtrack.

Well - as I mentioned in other threads, one of my niece's got married yesterday and, with no intervention from me, there were a few Eagles songs that made the set list for the reception. Of course, there was Take It Easy and Hotel California. But, Life's Been Good and Lyin' Eyes, which is her favorite Eagles song, made the cut as well. I guess we musta done something right raising that girl!

Lyin' Eyes! That's more of a divorce court song isn't it. Not dedicated to a future ex., Plaintiff! I hope :D

Thanks for the well wishes, F50. The wedding was wonderful and uniquely theirs - and they are a very lovely couple. I agree Lyin' Eyes sure isn't much of a wedding song, but I guess she just went with some songs that were favorites - there were a few other odd choices as well, but it's all good. Overall, the music was very enjoyable and she made great choices for the songs that really count.

Thanks for the well wishes for my niece and new nephew everyone. They are a lovely well-grounded couple and I have nothing but high hopes for them.
And after the wedding last weekend, this weekend was followed up with my high school class reunion. Honestly, I was so busy yapping with my old classmates yesterday that I wasn't paying that close attention to the music. However, a classmate that is aware of my Eagles fandom (at least somewhat) did point out when Take It Easy started playing. I hope no others escaped me.

KISS doing an Eagles song was rather unexpected! They got the intro wrong rhythmwise, but it's ok. I "misheard" it too initially.
It's obvious that KISS hadn't really rehearsed it that much and it's pretty bad. :) Especially Paul forgetting the lyrics.

Here you can hear Paul's nice comments about the song and Glenn when they've finished it, at 2:43 mark. Also (sort of) apologizes to the audience, because they did it so badly. :) I'm glad that Paul said "a great rock'n'roller" about Glenn, because Glenn loved rock'n'roll, but people usually associate the term only with Felder and Walsh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAQ73B5Ffxo

Thank you for posting that, Toni. It was wonderful to hear KISS praise both the song and Glenn. I enjoyed the performance too, even though they botched the lyrics (Well I'm running down the road... In Winslow Arizona ), I liked how they carried on with the song and then admitted that they'd messed up at the end, but the magic of the song and music itself still came through. I won't listen to this version over the original studio version or HFO or California Jam, but it did really make me smile, and although the performance was far from Eagles standard, the warmth and charm felt very genuine to me.

Paul has had serious issues with his voice. During one of the lines (I think it was "lighten up") his voice cracks badly. He looks really frustrated and stops singing for a few seconds. Perhaps Gene should have sung this - or maybe not, because he forgets even his own lyrics he has sung for decades!
I didn't know until recently how much Paul loves Glenn. Even Gene was about to cry when he spoke about Glenn on TV. Maybe it's partly the Detroit thing. KISS was popular there before they were popular anywhere else.

"Instead of the Eagles, we sound like the Beagles."  It's the thought that counts. They should've rehearsed it once or twice. I bet if Glenn, wherever he is now, heard this version of Take It Easy, he'd probably laugh that unmistakable laugh of his, and say something like "That's why the Eagles always rehearsed each new song 100 times." I'm not a KISS fan, but Paul and Gene scored a few points with me.

As a huge fan of both the Eagles and KISS it's great to see that there was mutual respect at least between Glenn and KISS. I don't know what Glenn actually thought about KISS in private, but when he met KISS he didn't look down on them. Gene said that when KISS was inducted to the Hall Of Fame Glenn came to meet them and said "Isn't this a great day". You could see that Gene was genuinely moved by that. It warms my heart so read/hear about warm interaction between people from such different (musical) worlds.

Wish I could say he was as certain as I was that Glenn was indeed trying to communicate. Instead he managed a small smile and gave me the predictable response - it's all about the benefits outweighing the risks. :nope:

Last night after I was doing some writing for my new novel (the one I mentioned in the off-topic board that I have a lot of Eagles and Glenn's songs on my playlist for it) I got stuck a bit, and as a writer that drives me crazy sometimes, so I put on music to both help me through the block and stop my doubts. I turned it to our oldies station which plays a wide variety of classic hits from the 40s all the way through the early 2000s (including Eagles sometimes) and I heard an older version of "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons"!!! :D I don't know if I ever heard this version before last night as it was sung by a female singer, but that is one of my favorites Glenn did on his "After Hours" album. So that was nice to hear. Then right after that song, I change the station and it's the Eagles "Peaceful Easy Feeling" which is on my book's playlist. :D It was just weird hearing them back to back, but I needed that as I started thinking about my characters again and where the story goes next, and it made me feel better with how my story is coming along. :)

Did hear Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City" at Johnny's Pizza last time I was there, and have heard Don Felder's "Heavy Metal(Taking a Ride)" on Sirius-XM's "Classic Rewind" channel way back when DirecTV still carried them.
Henley is such a big fixture on 'we play everything' and '80s, 90s, & now' stations and Walsh on Classic Rock stations(I'll bet you can easily guess which two of his they always play) that I'm never too surprised when they come up in the station playlists.
"Michael Tearson's Marconi Experiment" on the online radio platform I Radio Philly played "The Last Resort" some weeks back as the closer to a show entitled "Paradise...Almost Lost," which pleased me immeasurably.

I bet I can guess the two Walsh songs they play. Would I be right in thinking that one of them features the lyric 'couldn't get much higher' and the other has a verse about a speeding Maserati?
(I say this as these two seem to be by far Joe's most recognisable solo songs where I am).

Over dinner tonight with the family our conversation somehow turned to the Amish and how they send out their 18-year-old kids for a year to see how the rest of us live and have them decide if they want to live among us English, and suddenly my Dad in the kitchen started singing "In the City". LOL  But the funny part wasn't just my Dad singing that song, but that my Dad's tone deaf. He doesn't even realize how bad it is and my Mom cringes all the time since she's very picky about singing and people being on key. She always jokes how she's glad my brother and I inherited her musical abilities and not my father's. LOL :D So I was laughing so much for both reasons.

This was weird. I was watching a Simpsons episode on FXX. IT was about to go off and they all of a sudden started to play the opening notes of In The City. FWIW,
"King of Hollywood" - I like the eeriness and the guitars.
"How Long" - I remember seeing the music video for this on Vh1's Top 20 Countdown.
"Take It Easy" - I like to start my drive to school with this song.
"Heartache Tonight" - I like the drums and tried to find my dad's Eagles' Greatest Hits Vol. 2 after I heard it on the radio several months ago.

I was watching my DVR recording of the movie, "Extraordinary Measures," and Harrison Ford's character is playing "Rocky Mountain Way" on his speakers. The lab scientists working on the enzyme tell him to turn it down, but he just turns it up. His character has disregard for most people, since he doesn't care about others.
It's not a good movie, so don't waste your time to watch this "Lifetime" movie that unfortunately got a theatrical release. I only watched it because Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors. Thanks to a post I saw by one of my favorite authors Rainbow Rowell it reminded me she used Don & Stevie Nicks' song "Leather and Lace" in her novel "Landline". The story is a Christmas set one about a woman reconnecting with the younger version of her husband, thanks to what seems like a magical landline phone, while she is currently separated from said husband. "Leather and Lace" started out as a joke between the couple when they were young as they kept hearing it on dates and teasing each other about it, and ended up using it as their wedding song as it became their song. The woman keeps hearing it as well as The Beatles' "Good Day Sunshine", which is her husband's personal ringtone for her calls, while they contemplate getting divorced or staying together. It's a very sweet story (one I hope eventually becomes a Christmas movie) and Rainbow uses music like this a lot in her novels for scenes.

My daughter bought a record player and I dug out some old albums I had from my school days. I loved the movie Urban Cowboy in the day and I bought the album. It had the date 1980 on the album. I was going to play a few Tunes that I recalled, and much to my surprise I find the record is part of Asylum records and Irving Azcoff is listed at the bottom, so I couldn't believe all the goodies I find.
The soundtrack contains, The Eagles' Lying Eyes, Joe Walsh's All Night Long, and a duet by Linda Ronstatt and J.D Souther. Also, Don Henley's early mentor, Kenny Rogers has a song on there and Glenn's early mentor Bob Seegar has a song on there too. It's like one big family album! Crazy!

The last two family dinners out, both musicians started their session with an Eagles song ("Take it Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling").

Had some great moments last night at Keith Urban's concert in Cincinnati as both Joe and Don will be playing at the same venue (Joe tomorrow and Don next month, which I'm going to Don's) so they were playing Joe and Don's music and Eagles hits in the audio ads for the upcoming concerts. Also saw both their posters at the venue too.
But the best surprise was before we went to the concert we got there early and at the last minute decided to eat dinner before the show and the first song I hear when I open the door of the restaurant was Glenn's "The Heat is On" which made me burst out laughing. LOL :D My brother got confused and asked me what was going on and I said it's the song. My brother still didn't get it and I said "It's Glenn Frey and I keep hearing his music everywhere." Then it dawned on my brother as he actually forgot Glenn sang that song and he always liked it. LOL  I also took it as a sign, as I believe in those things, that the rain we were supposed to get was going to clear out and it's a good thing we did stop there as it stormed pretty badly while we were eating and had we ate at the venue like we planned we would've been soaked. So I was out shopping earlier and looking through the CD section and noticed the soundtrack for the animated series of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy". I loved the movie and in it and the comics one of the main characters Peter Quill is originally from Earth and has all these cassette tapes his mom made him when he was little full of 70s music, which were her favorites, so the film's soundtrack all had 70s songs. Turns out the TV series does as well and that it features Joe's song "Rocky Mountain Way" and the James Gang's "Walk Away" and "Funk #49" and they were included in three different episodes.
It's been renewed for a 2nd season and the film's sequel will be out next year so it'll be interesting if any Eagles songs show up on the soundtrack. I have the first film's soundtrack and it's got some great songs on it.

Hi, everybody!! I'm a New entry in this beautiful community!!! I'm an Italian 45 girl and I love The Eagles with all my heart!! A few days ago I was very angry, I had really a bad time and suddenly what's on the radio??? Take it to limit!!!!!! I felt my heart explode!!! I felt better!!! In Italy it's a little hard that a radio plays Eagles songs... so I think that was Glenn from the Sky who wanted to help me!!! I'm crazy... I know.... 😍😍

Somewhat relevant: An old woman in a guitar store recognized that I was playing Best of My Love when I was trying out a twelve string guitar.

Thank you! The name popped into my head one day and I thought it was funny. I know I'm not the first to that joke, though.

It was neat hearing One of These Nights and Take It to the Limit as I was observing a raw chicken leg and thigh being dissected during my Human Bio lab today. My professor had her Pandora radio up, and I was wondering what station it was. I found out later on, and I guess Pandora doesn't really distinguish Eagles and Eagles (UK). I heard a live version of Landslide prior to hearing those two Eagles songs.

I'm having lunch in a locally owned diner. "Take It Easy" just played. Great lunchtime treat! :-)
