I tried looking for the interview last night (at the request of EL) but I couldn't find it! Perhaps I was just tired, but I swear it's not where it was when I watched it. If it's been removed, it's a shame, because it is every bit as wonderful as those screencaps suggest. I'll keep looking.

I just watched this again. I found it on the website called Eaglesfans.com. Go to archives,then downloads,then video. It is listed as TEXANS 1993. Sight has tons of video's and audio's. Since I live in central Indiana, one of my favorite audio interviews (almost an hour) is the one from the Bob and Tom Show(2000). Some pretty funny stuff here.

Mmm, thanks for the additions, Soda. I can't believe I left out the '70s porch one. That was my first avatar on The Border, and it's one of my favourites.

The long day was a killer, but these Don photos certainly helped me through. I promise I don't have some weird foliage fetish! I just think Don looks so at home and sexy when he's all rugged, surrounded by nature :sigh: :heart:

Although, he looks pretty good on stage with a guitar, too.

Thanks for posting so many great Don pics, everyone. I agree with all of you about that wonderful interview! Most of you know I am a freelance writer (well, I was until most of the publications I wrote for ceased production in this down economy) and my greatest wish has always been to interview Don. That interviewer is the luckiest woman on the planet. *sigh*

I especially love this picture. It was for a magazine called Texas Monthly and Don was featured in an article called "The Texas Twenty--the most impressive, intriguing, and influential Texans on 1995." They included a little backstory about how that picture came about--the editor actually had one of those "Hey, has anyone ever shot a picture of one of the Eagles with an actual eagle?" moments, and he made it happen. Sequoia, the bald eagle in the shot, appeared courtesy of the Avian Conservation Center at the San Francisco Zoo, and they bragged on Don for being so sure and steady while holding the eagle as he rapidly flapped his wings.

In one of the quotes in the article Don says, "What I want to do is focus people's attention on the rapidly declining state of the world's ecosystem. Unfortunately that requires bait, and the bait is me."

He caught ME all right--hook, line and sinker!!

That one of Elton and Don is special to me, as I am a great Elton John fan. Elton looks so happy in the photo-I remember watching Elton doing a show a number of years ago on VH-1, where he played his favorite videos. His top favorite one was "Boys of Summer"-great choice, EJ!:thumbsup:

That insanely beautiful voice, like 400-grain sandpaper, rough but fine, is incredible to hear.” However, it is not only the sound of the voice, but the words that he has written and sung over the years, that remain with listeners long after each song is over.

That famous voice was nurtured by listening to AM radio over long restless nights in Linden, a small East Texas town almost to the Louisiana border. Donald Hugh Henley, the only child of a NAPA auto parts dealer Con Junell (C. J.) Henley and his schoolteacher wife, Hughlene, was born July 22, 1947 in Gilmer, Texas, and raised in nearby Linden. As a hometown, Linden boasts a rich musical history--blues guitar great T-Bone Walker and ragtime composer Scott Joplin were also born there---so it has contributed greatly to what fellow Eagle founder Glenn Frey calls “the fertilizer of his genius.”

“Music changed my life,” Don wrote in his introduction to Jim Ladd’s book, Radio Waves. ”Radio, the vehicle for that music, was my connection to the world that lay outside my small hometown. During those difficult, adolescent years, it was a friend in the dark; a messenger to a lover; a magic carpet; a ticket out.”

He owes a measure of his success to a quirk of fate: after watching Don struggling to play football at Linden-Kildare High School—a difficult task due to his relatively small build, in comparison to the other football players--his football coach tactfully suggested that he quit the team. He decided to join the high school band instead. He began as a trombone player, but since he was always drumming on his textbooks, his band teacher moved him into the drum section, and the rest, as they say, is history. Within a short time, Don and childhood buddies Richard Bowden and Jerry Surratt formed a garage band called The Four Speeds. “No one really wanted to sing, so we drew names and I ended up being the reluctant vocalist,” Don recalled. Reluctant, indeed.

It was great getting to meet Peek and to hang out with our mutual friend Kelly, my long-time OK buddy that I met by posting about the Eagles. On a related note, has anyone ever wondered if Don should let himself go gray? I don't think the blond look does his complexion any favors. On some men, going gray ages them terribly, but I think Don could pull it off. Men with such striking blue eyes often can pull off gray/whitish hair well because it makes them stand out more. He looks good in those photos where it's peeking through.

I think the Caddo Lake pictures are gorgeous. Don looks very 'down to earth' and normal in them. As for the gray/colour, debate. Interesting. I was telling Lou earlier, I was looking at my calendar last month and really thought Don's hair would have looked much better gray. Maybe it was just the light but I reckon it was kind of overcoloured in one pic to where it nearly looked orange. I'd love to see him try the gray look. If he doesn't like it he could always go back to coloured.

Kind of a salt and pepper look. lol When my sister and I were watching the awards show were he presented the Dixie Chicks with an award he was almost entirely gray (might even HAVE been entirely) and my sister gasped and said "wow has he aged." He didn't look bad at ALL, but I thought he looked a LOT older that way. However he had it in Chicago and Fargo....he looked perfect :D :thumbsup:

lol! That's true that he can afford the best in hair care. I think Don's hair looks SO much better now than it did on Farewell 1. I hope they do a new DVD so he can show it off - and I hope the above is the look he sports for that DVD rather than the unnatural looking blondish color he sometimes has. That longer (but not too long) hair and stubble gives him an edge that says "Hey, I may be 60+, but I'm still a ROCK STAR."

I have to agree with you on this one. Probably one of the best I've seen too. Don going gray wouldn't be such a bad thing. The close up shot(mic and cymbal)Troub posted gives a little indication of what it would look like. His natural color would be nice instead of the blonde, would suit him nicely with passing age if he wishes to keep it colored.
