jdubfan
04-01-2011, 11:48 AM
Wasn't it in the midst of Joe's last divorce? I seem to recall that from somewhere. Joe was working on Y Not with Ringo and he ended up moving in. Joe has other properties, but he didn't want to live alone and it was convenient while recording at Ringo's home studio. But then again, my memory accuracy is not what it used to be....?
I'm not even sure what I had for lunch yesterday....:headscratch:

Last night on WGN I watched the last couple innings of the Chicago flubs vs Colorado Rockies. They did a Fan Cam moment with shots of various unique folk in the stands accompanied by RMW. When they got back to the announcer Len, he said "Now, how could anybody not be tappin' their toes to that one, folks. Joe Walsh and Rocky Mountain Way, what a great song." Then Bob Brenly, the color commentator, said "Well, it's a great song anywhere else but here, because they play it after every win." And fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your position, the crowd got to rock out last night...

Here's something interesting. Really don't know where else to put this.

So I checked my followers on Twitter this morning as I do every so often and there is this guy that started to follow me. I clicked on his profile and it turns out he's a lifelong friend to JOE WALSH!!! And he has wrote an ebook about his times with Joe and it is on Amazon. I figure he found my profile after all of my tweets about Joe and that I've put in my profile info that Joe is my hero.

Here is the book:

http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Me-ebook/dp/B0055T1FBY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310560010&sr=8-1

I don't have a Kindle and there isn't a preview of the book but this was just too cool to not share with you all. The reviews on the book are all positive and they say it's great. This is an e-book, meaning it's not available in paper or hard back and that it's an online copy you can get from Amazon. I think it's specifically for Kindles though which is really limiting. If it worked on any computer I'd be tempted to buy it.

Cool about Joe and Kenny Chesney - thanks for the link, AEF!

With regard to Steve Lemco's book - if you scroll down you see it's a self-published vanity project (hence why it's not available except as an e-book). Now, that doesn't mean it might not have some interesting bits if this guy truly knew Joe, but it's not undergone any kind of oversight or vetting such as would take place with a real publishing firm... so take anything said in it with a grain of salt.

ETA: According to the author's description of his book, it's not so much about Joe as it is about his own life, so be prepared for that if you shell out. (Rather misleading title, eh?) As for the reviews... well, it would be a sad man indeed who couldn't enlist three friends to write favorable reviews, lol, so I wouldn't put too much trust in those.

Interesting!!! Thanks for the heads up! Didn't know that.

I also understand why you might be nervous about it... Strangely enough the guy has removed his Twitter account now.... It's starting to look a little more fishy than it did in the beginning. I also see what Soda is saying about the reviews - he could have made them himself or something. I don't think it's a scam but it might not be worth reading either or just a bad book. Hard to say.

Guess there really was a book, at least there's a review of Steve Lemco's book "Joe & Me", makes it more legit, I guess.

sodascouts
10-06-2011, 01:22 PM
I kind of had the impression from the initial book description that Lemco and Joe must be at least casual friends or something. However, according to this review, Lemco sounds more like a stalker:

"It starts with Lemco and a friend posing as roadies to sneak backstage. And from there it just… kind of doesn't stop. At intervals of several years at a time, he tracks down motorcades to after-parties, hands Walsh poetry, picnics with family of the Eagles, talks his way past armed police and arranges for a connected hotel room next to Walsh's in a locked down hall. That last example, the third substantial meeting between the two, almost put Lemco on the Very Suspicious list.

"He came back to the room with this big, tattooed guy," he said. "And he told me, 'Look man, you've been cool the few times we met, but you've shown up backstage, you've followed me to hotels, and now you have a hotel room next to me. What am I supposed to think?' So I finally explained everything to him: my vision [of the two of them riding on horseback], how all the opportunities just appeared to meet him. He heard that, he just laughed, shooed his bodyguard away.

"He said 'That's all cool, but why on Earth would we be riding on horseback together?'"

Lemco claims he's met Walsh more than 16 times, each meeting more or less amicable depending on the twitchiness of the security staff that evening."

This guy seems a little bit off-kilter to me.

It's less than what worse single seats are going for on scalper sites right now, and currently it's the same as a pair of 5-star ILAA seats that don't include any meet'n'greet. At $2000, it would be a bargain. Seriously.

However, I imagine before the end of the auction, that price is going to go up substantially - especially in the last few seconds when all those "snipers" swoop in. My experience with Ebay has been that a price can quadruple in those last few seconds!

At least the proceeds go to charity, and not Joe's wallet or some scalper.

Auctioning Eagles Tickets for Gaden Shartse: A Conversation with Joe Walsh

I think this would be in my "wildest dreams" category. Hope the winner appreciates it...I could be his bestie....how fun would this be.

According to Joe the MGM show will be:
the last show with our current production; we're going to go out swinging, and whoever wins the auction will come and be my best friend for the evening.

Thanks for that! Some interesting parts:

Joe Walsh is auctioning VIP Eagles seats, and a meet and greet for the final Eagles show of 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 19th, which is significant because the concert is sold out and this is a way someone can still go.

Um - and how about it's significant because THEY GET TO MEET JOE WALSH? lol

so next year, we are going to put another show together around the 40th anniversary, and pull out some archived stuff for visuals and all.

Now THIS is what I like to hear!!! But somebody needs to get Timothy the memo...

If you get on eBay and you win, you come back stage, we'll hang out and take pictures, then I will take you onstage and I will show you what it's like and you will have really good tickets for the show. I'll take care of you, we'll put it that way.

When you consider that I just did the ILAA front row, this wouldn't have been that much of a stretch -- fine -- so we wouldn't have had any of those "extras" like heat and gas -- whatever -- for the long, cold New York winter -- Hello -- its Joe. It's back-stage Joe, it's front row Joe. I'm thinking -- it doesn't get much better. If he does it again. I AM IN !!!!! Just sayin. . . .

I hate to be a downer but.... is the 19th show really sold out? That worries me a bit for Soda & Lou. :-( But in Soda I trust!!! Good luck girls!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, just because it's sold out, not everyone who has tickets will show up, like people who gave tix to their clients and they can't or don't want to go.....I know - hard to imagine, isn't it? But that's why in the past Soda has been successful at will call the hour before the show starts.

What I usually pick up the day of are released comps (seats held back for VIPS which were not used) and unsold scalper tickets (since TicketsNow is affiliated with Ticketmaster, their unsold tickets go back into TM the day of).

However, casinos are a different animal. You can hope to score a seat that's been held back for a high-roller, but it looks like a lot of high-rollers want to see the Eagles! Currently, there isn't much good on TicketsNow to be put back into the pot - about 30 desirable seats. However, if it's to be had, we'll be ON it!

HH - I totally thought of you when that auction ended at $3050!

Because it's unlikely that they would try to do the whole world in one year, 40th anniversary or not. My guess is the US with perhaps some European dates next year, and Asia/Australia in 2013.

Rolling Stone Magazine just redid their list of Top 100 Guitarists and Joe got #54 (should have been higher IMO but at least he's on the new list where IIRC he was not on the last old list which is BS). Also in Eagle-y news - Don Felder was on the panel to decide which guitarists to go on the list.

Wonder how many groups have similar stories from over the years.....

"Joe listened to us to make sure he wanted to sit in and then he nodded and I handed him my guitar and we did Johnny B. Goode," McComb said. "He took the first lead and slayed it and I nodded again and he took another lead." By
the time the song finished, Walsh had taken four leads. "With each one, he'd play different styles," McComb remembered. "One would be played in his style, the other would be in Eric Clapton's style and so on. The house went nuts."
Imagine that.....

Just watched the Joe CMT show with Brad Paisley. It ROCKED! They did a medley of Life's Been Good (my fav Joe tune) with Brad's new "Camoflauge". It rocked and IMHO Joe friggin' ripped and won that duel. Brad's solo was great too but Joe was great. I wouldn't expect anything less from the best guitar player of all time. ;) :D Hope it's on YouTube soon so I can nab it!

Also, Joe is playing Gibson guitars again and Dr. Z amps and the guitar tone on Life's Been Good (and the Camo song for that matter) was droolworthy. Damn I need to get some Z's! :hilarious:
ETA: Here is the video. I've watched it like 5 times. Brad and Joe need to do a CMT Crossroads special together where they play each others tunes. I'd go nuts to see that. I love Brad's music and playing. I'm so weird because I hate Country but love Brad Paisley and Keith Urban.

I loved having Life's Been Good in there. I know it's Brad's award but having a special guest like Joe I'm sure Brad wanted Joe to really play and sing some too and not just be a background guy just strumming along and sing backup on the choruses.

I LOVED the medley. Life's Been Good is my favorite Joe Walsh tune and I never tire of it. That intro riff has to be the best electric riff ever created. :D As soon as I heard that intro riff when I was watching it on TV I actually yelled "YES!!!!!". That song is a classic.

Ive always been a dreamer
12-15-2011, 12:18 AM
Wow - that was great. All I can say is that when Joe wrote "Life's Been Good", hardly no one on the planet would have ever imagined that song being played on a country music show - I guess it just shows how much influence the Eagles have had over country music. Country music today is a lot like what the Eagles did in the '70's. :singer: :guitar:

sodascouts
12-15-2011, 01:55 AM
I thought the "Life's Been Good" intro was a little out of place, too, but I guess they wanted to give Joe his own "moment" before proceeding to the Paisley part. ;) It was cute that he pointed to Brad for the "He's cool!" line.

WalshFan88
12-15-2011, 05:20 AM
Yeah the LBG intro was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it but I sure did enjoy it. That said, it wasn't a shock though either. More like a surprise. Made it all that much better for me. That song will never get old.

As far as LBG on country awards show - Country has changed a LOT since the country days of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s. I personally think some of these "country" artists and bands are closer to Classic Rock than Modern Rock could ever dream of. I love Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, etc. They sound like Classic Rock to me which is one of the reasons I like them so darn much. They actually sound very "rock" to me guitar-wise ESPECIALLY. They use distortion, and Gibson "rock" guitars (they do use some Fenders still, granted) and they have nicer and better sounding guitar rigs than the modern rock bands do. Keith Urban's guitar sound IMO is much closer to rock than country especially and he doesn't typically play traditional chicken picking licks much. Brad does more than him, but even Brad has a strong rock edge. I guess you could say I'm a Classic Rock/Modern "Country" guy. I put country in quotations because most of it doesn't sound like what I would define as country music. There is pop, and rock LOL. Brad and Keith being rock, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift being more pop. When I think of Country I think of guys from the early days through the 90s (later guys being Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, George Strait, etc). Modern country is not country LOL. It's either pop or rock IMHO.

But yeah I LOVED the collaboration/performance and I think it would be cool as heck if they did a CMT Crossroads episode together where they pair rock and country artists up and do each others tunes. Some of the episodes are horrible but some are absolutely phenomenal. Some of my favorites were .38 Special and Trace Adkins, John Mayer and Keith Urban, Steve Miller and Kenny Chesney. Some of my not-so-favorites were Def Leppard and Taylor Swift, lol.

Also as far as "weird appearances", Def Leppard (a big name hard rock "glam" band) and Taylor Swift were on the CMAs a few years back doing "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Now THAT'S weird LOL! Love Lep though, FWIW.

I agree - great pic. And nice guitar too! ;) :hilarious: It's an incredibly rare early 50s Fender Broadcaster - the name they used until they were sued for using it because Grestch had a drum kit with the same name - so they had to rename it and it then got it's more known name - the Telecaster.

I worked to remove the shipping/address label off of it though without damaging the cover so I could see the guitar better and also I'm going to buy a frame as I said or some kind of poster thing to put it in. I go Friday for my procedure and I'll stop at Walmart or something and pick up a frame to put it in and hopefully get a 2nd copy to keep out to read! :D

I'm not sure about that. The article just features a selection of new albums that people may be interested in (not Glenn's). There is nothing to indicate that it will be followed by a more detailed article. I hope so (as I hope they might do Glenn) but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the link, VA.

You never know, Joe may get a followup article in Rolling Stone. I wouldn't be at all shocked if they give Joe more press for his album than Glenn. Traditionally, standards albums don't tend to get a lot of attention in Rolling Stone. But this is Joe's thread, not Glenn's, so I don't wish to take the focus away from Joe here by taking this thread off topic. Crossing my fingers that Analog Man gets lots of attlention!

...anyway, I was looking to buy 'Analog Man' on Amazon.uk and it seems you're getting a better deal in the US with an additional dvd that doesn't appear to be available in the UK.....so do I wait and hope it'll become available here or order it from the US and wait the extra shipping days???

BUT......while I was searching stuff out .... I found this - I don't think it's been posted before and if it has I apologise and please delete mods!

Got this in my Facebook feed today from the Gibson Custom Shop:

Last week found our Nashville ER team members in London with a Custom Shop engineer to inspect Joe Walsh's famous 1960 Les Paul. The guitar is currently owned by a London collector, and close friend of Joe, who was kind enough to give us full access for a thorough inspection. The guitar was measured, weighed and photographed from every angle for use in creating a prototype for an upcoming Joe Walsh model from Gibson Custom. Stay tuned for more details in coming weeks.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2n6rejn.jpg

OMGOMGOMG!! A Joe model Les Paul! I'm SO getting one! I literally yelled out loud when I read it. I was just scrolling through posts and BAM - there it was lol. I could cry. I have always wanted a Joe Walsh Les Paul to be released and this is perfect. My guess is that they will be pretty cashy - so I might have to buy it on a payment plan or something. But I will own one come hell or high water.

Anywhere from 3-6k is what most CS (custom shop) models run. 3 is the most I've ever payed for a guitar. Yeah, Rock Shop in Springfield, IL is my preferred dealer - especially for Gibson's.

I know. :( And it will take me a good long bit of saving to try and get one but I have to have one as I've always wanted one. Might even sell one of my others to fund it if I have to (one of the ones I don't play as much). As I said, the most I've ever payed for a guitar was slightly above 3k for my PRS Custom and I had it on a payment plan for a year to pay it off. Well worth it though - great axe.

I agree that in general, I prefer that artiists don't go in long rants about their views (political, religious, or otherwise) during a live show. However, I don't mind brief commentary as long as it isn't too controversial.

As far as any of the current Eagles, I don't think their political views are any big secret - all anyone has to do is look at the political benefits and fund-raising events that they have participated in to see that they aren't supporting many conservative causes.

It seems like these days politics is always controversial and it hits you from everywhere. So if I want to hear political commentary, and I NEVER do, I'll turn on the TV or go to a rally. If I'm paying big bucks for a concert, I don't want to hear static. Even if I agree with it.

This writer just typifies the stereotype Whingeing Pom. It was so negative, with the exception of the para about him being the greatest guitarist in the northern hemisphere..and a couple of other back slaps which were overtaken by all the snide, snotty and uncomplimentary remarks.

Nobody cares what he thinks, we only know what we think and that Joe cleaned up his act tells me he wanted to become a better person and do it for himself. I actually had to force myself past the skimming to read it all because I couldn't find the bit where he knew him from..who cares.
