Walsh Worship: The Joe Walsh Photo Thread (Nov. 2006 - Oct. 2009)

There is another thing you guys might start looking for when dissecting Joe <LOL> in pictures.

When playing concerts indoors, Joe often has one of those light sticks...the kind that you bend and it starts it glowing. He usually has one hanging from his belt.

When asked about that, he said that they just look cool. But then he backed up and said that he really did use them to help see in the dark before the spotlights hit him to keep from tripping over cords and stomp boxes and his own feet. I doubt that Joe would need a light to illuminate his guitar...I think he could play that thing blindfolded.

I've gone back and looked at some of the pics from live performances and haven't seen one. Might not use one on the LROE tour because of the suits, but I'll bet you'll spot one if you look at enough pictures.

At the show in Chicago I thought Joe was wearing those shoes that have blinking lights in them. We were in row 20 but I had binoculars. I had Hubby look but he didn't know (or care). I finally cinvinced myself that what I was seeing were the lights reflecting off the tops of his shoes. But maybe I was wrong, although I don't think those shoes would help him see in the dark.

Rhonda...now THERE'S a guitar! I don't particularly like the high tinker-bell sound that they have but a LOT of people do. I'm talking about that acoustic TAYLOR that Joe is playing in that 1272 post that Maleah posted.

It is comparable to the top of the line Gibson's and Martin's and Gallagher's. I almost bought one of those (Taylor's) from the guy I bought my Seagull from. Beautiful non-cutaway dreadnought, but to be honest, I actually liked the tone of my Seagull better!

However, I think that might be the first pic I've seen of Joe playing a Taylor.

Ya know Mike, I was looking at Taylor's when I was looking at the Jasmin. They had a couple of low end Taylors at 5star that were pretty nice, but yeah, I didnt care for their tone. Like I said before *G* I fell in love with my Tak the first time I saw it.. and when I heard it, I was sold. That is a beautiful 12 string tho.

Those are all nice. My favorite look for Joe is casual, and expressing his individuality (but not extreme like the poncho or coonskin hat). Also like to see the hair flowing instead of slicked back. Here's what I'm talking about ...

(The hair is not my favorite in this one, but love the shirt. This was from the Oakland 2005 show that I attended. I wish I had a picture of the shirt Joe changed into for the 2nd half cause I liked that one even better).

Two things I noticed in that one Dreamer....the one where he's wearing his pajamas:

#1 The guitar. Have no idea what it is, but it's finished in "camo!"

#2 The amp to Joe's right that you can only see the end of and just a little of the face. I'll lay money that it is Glenn's amp and that it is a Fender Acoustasonic. In my opinion, that is just about the best acoustic amplifier you can get. I've had one for at least 10 years, played the heck out of it, dragged all 50 pounds of it around in pickup trucks, compact cars, roughed it up during practice and performances and it's still working like a champ (minus one knob that I've lost and never replaced!) They are work horses.

Totally agree with you here, tbsf. This look is MUCH more to my liking for Joe (see also LROOE promo pics). I don't totally object to the length of Joe's current hair as much as the combed-backed gel look.

100% agree! I DON'T think this is a good look for him. The pic TBSF posted is perfect for Joe. Joe could pull off the long hair in his younger years and even some of his earlier mid-age years but it just doesn't look as good on him now.....ESPECIALLY all slicked back!

There was quite an emphasis on Joe and his sailboats in the autobiography of David Crosby. He and Joe sailed quite a bit together.

There was a pictures of the boats of some famous people a few years ago. It ended with a photo of Tiger Woods' boat....an aircraft carrier converted into a golf course <LOL>. Joke of course, but the rich and famous do tend to really let it out on sea-going boats. I think it represents the ultimate escape from those who invade their privacy. Kinda hard to be invaded when you are "at sea".

At the M & G I was at, he appeared to be freshly shaved and showered and it was "down" and loose around his face, like in the great Lakers game photos. It took all I had not to reach up and touch it....I realllly wanted to....badly. It just looked so soft and pretty....and soft....oh baby... and touchable. It floated around when he moved - really nice. I love it longer. He is a rock star, after all.

Mike, I noticed that too. It could be, it was just a pill bottle right? PLUS he has a bandage on his finger, looks like a pretty serious bandage.

Yeah, "just a pill bottle" but the pharmacies quit using them. They were perfectly shaped for use as a slide though and glass gives a much different tone than metal slides.

Joe says he still has that slide, but he NEVER takes it on the road. It's too much of a prize possession of his considering where it came from: The inspiration of virtually all of Joe's accomplishments with the slide is attributed by Joe to Dwayne Almann. Joe wasn't the only one Dwayne inspired!

I don't remember where I heard it, but Dwayne got his inspiration for the slide work he perfected from harp players (harmonica). It was a different sound than was normally associated with slide guitar work and Dwayne made it famous.

let me clerify that I don't "prefer" the suits...I just like them just as well as the jeans, personally...that being said - yeah, he looks darn good in that video!

on another note - how cool is it that he's playing with these guys - this has to go against the "rock-star" personna in some way...he's not hoggin' the time and he's not acting like he's too good for them - gosh - my respect for him just went up another level!
