I believe Glenn's mother died in September 2013. They were on tour in Canada at the time.

That Desperado performance is from the MTV show that was recorded immediately prior to the "Hell Freezes Over" tour in 1994. It's available on DVD and CD.

Thanks so much for that. I have a lot of catching up to do! I was touched in that interview to hear him say he wished Don Henley would write with him again. Quite an admission for a proud man, I would think. So sad that all this has come to a premature end.

"Slow Down" from Glenn's 1986 Tokyo show.

So I love this. The performance, how he looks like he's having fund on stage, the huge grin as he gets teased about flirting with the interviewer.

I haven't been able to listen to this yet, but there's a very scruffy Glenn about 27 seconds in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6O5wDD_TQU&sns=fb

It appears to be promotion for an album that was released in 1994 which seems about right for the hair and the "Glenny" on the shelf.

And watching that After Hours promo clip was so bittersweet. Several of us Borderers had such a fun time on our After Hours mini-tour up the East Coast.

Minor detail, but when I rewatched the Christopher Cross promo, I realised Glenn's jacket looks like the one he wore for the Travis Tritt video.

That does look like the jacket he wore in Travis Tritt's video!!! :D That brings back memories as I remember when his cover (and that album) came out and my parents freaking out seeing all The Eagles together and my 7-year-old self not comprehending how big of a deal it was. LOL

And love seeing the Glenny too. :D

I missed the East Coast After Hours dates but it was great to catch him in LA 2 weeks later - and Ssoooo worth it. An impromptu decision that I'll be grateful for forever.

Gotta love that impromptu singing performance by a fan of Take it Easy! One day the Frey kids might take a trip down memory lane and pose for a pic by the street sign named for their dad. The friends, neighbors and fans who turned out for the big reveal gave Glenn and the Eagles a lot of love - it was sweet - I think Glenn would be appreciative and very touched.

Apologies if this has been posted already.

What is interesting for me is despite the bad blood between Felder and Glenn is that Glenn always gave credit where credit is due. "The song was written co written with Don Henley and also with Don Felder an often not recognized but integral part of the Eagles in the second half of the 1970s."

Glenn always had class

A Very Young Glenn Frey (1966)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8Qhb106000

this is too cute - can only wish there was audio - but still - what a great keepsake for Glenn's wife and kids.

FYI not sure sure how old Glenn is 17-18 yrs old ??

He is really getting down (literally on the floor) having a blast.

Aw the innocence and joy of youth.

Keep shakin' it up Glenn - somehow I get this feeling you have found a way to do just that in your own way touching countless hearts and souls - maybe even playing a couple of practical jokes here and there. ;)

Wow! I love this! :smitten: How I wish it had sound too! Yes, depending on the time of year in 1966 that this was recorded, and odds are it was ealrier than his birthday in November, Glenn must have been about 17 years old. Very true Glenn was into it even went to girl's parents house to seal the deal LOL - now fast forward to 2010 - Glenn Frey & Don Was with their sons Deacon Frey singing lead on Jet Airliner. Don't know how old Deacon is but I'm guessing he was still in high school? Must say Deacon has a great voice - good stage presence too. Ditto the other young musicians - all amazing!

Skip the first 2 minutes and listen rather than watch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PdU52nhxk4

This is what I read about the original commercial

The song is titled "I Got a Dream." It was written specifically for an Old Style beer commercial circa 1987 that depicted a young baseball pitcher who was pitching his fastball against the side of a barn in the sticks. The opening lyrics are: "I got a dream... I got a dream... it comes from the heart of the heartland." And yeah, Glenn Frey sang the hell out of it in a terrific country style that perfectly matched the visuals.

BTW, the recording was described by its producer in her book which was discussed in this thread (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4815).

Sodascouts - This video really pulled my heartstrings - could be because as you say it's pretty much all there is of him live from that era and he looks and sounds great - I don't know - it's a bittersweet feeling. On one hand I'm glad he packed a lot of living into his 67 years and on the other - I'm beyond sad he's gone - he had so much more life to live.

I've mixed feeling watching him in any of the videos that I have seen since his death. The evening afterwards I watched HOTE in its entirety. Something was telling me that I had to actually see him ALIVE again before I could even start to believe what had happened. Sometimes when I watch him in videos its like it never happened, the suddenly something reminds me and I get unbelieveably sad too. But I am grateful that we have so much material of him and it seems too that every day fresh material is unearthed by somebody -whether an unpublished photo, or a video they maybe didn't want to put up in case of copywrite.

But please do everyone continue to post whatever material you have of him.

The older the video, the easier I find it to disconnect from his death. I have no problem watching the 70s and 80s videos. Where I have most problem is anything from 2010 onwards where I can see the signs of arthritis. I had a problem with those when he was alive, too. When it comes to listening, I love anything from 1980 to 1994 because he was a good voice and stretching more than he did in the Eagles. I also love anything spoken from that time even if I cringe a little at the drug references.

Do you think that is a reason why there hasn't been an HOTE DVD?

I still get angry that there was never an LROOE DVD, and as for the After Hours tour, it would have been wonderful, arthritis or not.

I'm like UtW. I enjoy seeing the photos and watching the videos of a young and vibrant Glenn. While he remained vibrant until the end, it tugs at my heart to see the recent stuff and to think of how little time he had left and how much pain he had to be in.

I'll be happy with anything being released. I said that I was going to watch Live in Dublin over the weekend, but college work got in the way of that. Maybe this weekend, I can watch it. (I won't have as much work to do). I would love LiD to be officially released on DVD and/or bluray.

I don't think it was a regular concert staple, but they did play in May of 1974 during the ON THE BORDER tour and even the December before that in advance of the album release, but those were the only two times I've ever seen it played live.

Is it Christmas?
Since I first heard Cool Jerk last year, I wanted to know if Glenn did the Cool Jerk and now I can see for myself! What a great band he had, "They call themselves, 'The Cool Jerks'".

I've not reached the end, yet and I can see there must be something afterwards. If it's What's Going On it's my birthday as well as Christmas.

ETA: It seems I'm another year older. I hadn't expected "She Can't Let know".

Footage of him singing with no guitar decades before After Hours. He does look cool, doesn't he?

As for What's Going On it's a beautiful song anyway & that just makes it even better. Now all we need is footage of him doing Al Green's Love & Happiness.

Also, though I was lucky enough to see him sing I'll Come Running Back To You, no footage of any performance of that exists either.

Some thoughts on the new video.

I like the band. I've been listening to Glenn's band introductions and the interactions in the Boston show and now I get to see them. A few weeks ago, a couple of us were reacting to Felder's comments about how much fun he has with his current band. About it being the difference between playing as part of a group and being a solo artist backed by good sidemen. This is Glenn and his band of sidemen having a good time. There's no question of who's the boss but the band members are far from faceless individuals. They get their moments and they move around on stage. I'm sure they were well rehearsed and knew exactly what they supposed to do but it's also relaxed. And how cool are Hawk Wolinski and Al Garth?

I wanted to see Glenn dance. I couldn't see how he could sing Cool Jerk and not dance. But I was still a bit scared that he'd look like an idiot. He doesn't. He's actually rather cool.

I find it hard to relate this Glenn with the skinny, long-haired guy from just five years earlier. It's much easier to relate him to the Glenn that performed Route 66 in 2012.

Following from that, it seems that one thing Glenn did after the band split was eat. He's certainly a little more rounded. He may have still liked to party but he's looking healthier as well as heavier.

I'm hoping that the rest of show will turn up. He's in better voice than for the Boston show and I'd like to see him sing Peaceful Easy Feeling.

"I'll see you again" always gets to me.

This is the first Glenn Frey record I bought and it's still my uptempo favorite. Glenn says it was two days work. One for the vocals and a second for guitar chops, including the solo. I suppose this version is quite obscure but I prefer it to the hit radio version.

This looks like a corporate show by Glenn and Joe from 1997.

Part 1 has Walk Away, Peaceful Easy Feeling and New Kid In Town.
Part 2 has Part Of You, Part Of Me / Take It Easy and In The City

It's a great video and a pretty good performance. Just enough crowd to exhibit the audience excitement.

I always forget Glenn was a southpaw. He played guitar right handed and wore his watch on his left wrist. Most lefties wear their watches on their right wrists.

I love this video of Glenn signing the autographs. I've said before: You can tell a lot about someone famous by how they treat their fans. (Old friends or not.) This is the real Glenn in this video: sweet, funny, generous with his time.

Yes, definitly Beatles-esque but for some reason sounded a little Kinks-y to me. Either way glad there is video/sound of his very early band experience and recordings. Glenn Frey went all the way and then some to be sure.

Yes I love his voice too it's one of my favorite vocal performances of his. It was 1973 - so early in Eagles history - they were living the dream and totally in the moment.

As for "the hair" ... I think you are right about the sunglasses they certainly did the trick lol!

Pippinwhite

NKIT --- Yeah, pretty much that, exactly. They never did another decent song EVER after DF left, according to this guy. And saying well, Glenn actually didn't arrange the songs, and then cited "Victim of Love", like no one knows how that came about. I never have -- and would never -- low-rate Felder's talent or contributions to the band. EVER. I don't see why people have to rag on Glenn all the time, and try to make Felder look like some kind of saint. Nobody had a claim to sainthood in that crowd in the 70s. LOLOL.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, Glenn can't play the guitar and is only barely competent on keyboards -- because Joe played them most of the time in the live shows. Guy needs his head examined. I didn't even dignify it with an answer. What a maroon.

The comments were a lot worse before Glenn died (and they were not always about Glenn). I hate to say it now but I was influenced by them, at least initially, before I did more reading and looking into the band’s history. The one good thing about these videos being pulled by YT is those vicious comments disappear too. And when someone uploads them again, the comments are all new and not quite so vile and great in number. The downside is that a lot of wonderful heartfelt comments go away too.

Because truly, it seems that, with the one obvious exception, the people who knew him speak well of him. There may be an element of not speaking ill of the dead, but they weren't speaking badly of him while he was alive, either.

For some reason today I felt like watching Glenn's Livin' Right video and checked online to see if it is still available.

Oh happy day, it is!

Love the upbeat tempo and cheeky humor. Glenn really was a natural when it came to acting and comedy. Cindy was adorable too!

Oh my gosh, guys, check these out!!! Just randomly came across them!!!!

Dreamer, Wildthyme, and I were at the 2010 show. I tried to get video but it came out crap. These videos are AWESOME! There are also some from the 2009 benefit, not quite as good quality, but still!!

From the 2010 Benefit for Africa Schoolhouse with Deacon Frey (Otis making an appearance too)

Girl talking about the show and some clips from the show (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OF-7fXzDX8)

Jet Airliner (House of Blues 2010) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8xeQWBZL4U)

These are from the GO benefit in 2009, also with Deacon:

Those are incredible videos. We didn't actually go to the event in 2009 at the Roxy because we didn't know about it in advance.

Soda, PLS, and I went to the Roxy for the 2008 benefit where we ran into Carol Lynn (carol7lynn) and her friend. That was the night that Glenn introduced us to Cindy and Deacon after the show.

Then in 2010, Soda, Wildthyme, and I went to the House of Blues benefit. It looks like the 2009 and 2010 benefits had similar set lists, but the 2008 show was entirely different. I think YBTTC may have been the only song performed at all three shows.

For those interested, you can read more about these shows in the Glenn Frey Concert Reviews (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27) forum.

Thanks for the link Dreamer to the shows.

I had really hoped to go to the Wiltern to see Glenn and was very very disappointed I couldn't make it.

Of course, reading the Wiltern thread and captivating reviews posted by FP, Soda, GA who WERE there is awesome!!

Unfortunately the photos taken that night are no longer available on photobucket aargh! I did find a video for PEF. You can feel the excitement in the theater.

I chuckled when he said he took his wife to games and explained everything to her. I was thinking, "Sugar, my dad was a coach. I sat in his lap and watched Alabama football when I was five. You wouldn't have to explain a thing to ME!" LOLOLOL. Don't care for basketball, but I know what happens in a game. Love baseball and college football, though!

LOL@shun. Not only was my dad a coach, both his brothers coached, too -- along with a couple of cousins. In my family, you get the knowledge by osmosis. Hehehe. One cousin married a great guy who's a dentist -- and calls high school football games on the radio. You can't get away from it.

I used to listen to the audio of "Cool Jerk" whenever I needed a lift. When the video showed up a couple of years ago (it was posted by someone on this thread), I loved it and played it all the time. And then I forgot.

Last week, I saw a band that had two drummers and I thought of this band. After struggling to remember the name "Cool Jerk" for a few minutes, I sought out the video and played it for a friend. Unfortunately, he didn't get excited, not even when I was trying to point out people like "JR" and Hawk Wolinski (because my friend loves music trivia). Such a disappointment! I'm glad there are people out there who love it as much as I do. Now I need to find that audio from Boston in 1982 to hear other songs by Glenn and his "All Star Band".

Wow, I have not seen the whole concert in so many years. I forget they open with the Acapella intro (from the folk song Come All Ye Fair And Tender Ladies). Thank you all so much ladies for posting these links. I'm listening to the concert now while I posting.

And NKIT - the opening acapella harmony is actually a verse from a folk song called 'Silver Dagger' that was recorded by Joan Baez in the early-60's. It's easy to see how the video owner got confused though because I think there were several iterations of the song's title.

Here's a video of Glenn being interviewed by Roy Faires of KVUE-TV in support of "Let's Get Harry":

https://www.texasarchive.org/library/index.php?title=2013_04942&p=video1&b=0

Description of video is:

In this unedited segment from a 24 Action News broadcast for Austin’s KVUE-TV, Roy Faires sits down with musician Glenn Frey of the Eagles to talk about his film debut in Let’s Get Harry (1986). Frey discusses how he caught the acting bug and what films inspire him. Faires also questions Frey about the director Alan Smithee. Alan Smithee was an official pseudonym used by members of the Directors Guild of America who wished to disown a project after proving to a guild panel that they did not exercise creative control. Stuart Rosenberg used the pseudonym for this film. The name was formally discontinued in 2000. Faires worked as a special project director and entertainment critic/reporter at KVUE-TV, Austin’s ABC affiliate, from 1976-1989.

Not sure how the beer went with the "salmon burps," but, hey... whatever floats your boat. I thought they both were going to get into a Pee Wee Herman throw-down for a minute. Well, they kinda did, didn't they?

And have I ever mentioned how much I love this man's voice? Whether he is speaking or singing - it doesn't matter.

Exactly, but he didn't seem as "smooth" here as in later interviews. Lots of "you knows" (not that I'm complaining, because I'm not), but I'll listen to him talk any day... all day.

Watching the MTV clip -- wow, all the different styles of music, all great songs. While BOS is probably my favorite Henley solo song, "Don't Come Around Here No More" by Tom Petty is the trippiest video. It may have been a little too edgy for the time, but I loved it. Thanks for positing!
(And can we just appreciate how HS&G Glenn is in a tux? Wowzers.)

This was on CBS This Morning today....I hope it belongs here. Glenn is mentioned by Jackson Browne, and the Eagles are fr=featured.

Thanks for that, FF. While I don't love The One You Love as much as most people, I do like it a lot. Nonetheless, that was an interesting video to watch.

There were a number of interesting tidbits, such as how Glen could learn a new (complicated) chord on the spot. Also how he dictated the horn parts he wanted for The One You Love with hums. Usually you think of the session man coming up with it. I know Glenn vocalized the intro in an interview once. Da-da da dada da da da.....Love it!:inlove:When I hear this song, I'm 20 again!

If you’ve seen it before I apologize it’s new to me. I haven’t seen Heartache Tonight part only night owls. So here is Glenn Frey with Little River Band 1988 Heartache Tonight/Night Owls world expo 88 Australia.

Thanks, KW! Never apologize for posting Glenn videos! They always need to be seen again!
For some reason I don't hear the LRB much on oldies stations.

I’m not sure if this is the thread to post this, so if Dreamer or another mod wants to move it, then that’s fine. This is a 2018 interview with Robert Wuhl who was collaborating with Glenn on the Hotel California musical. I’m posting this because he briefly talks about the musical, and even mentions who was playing the role of Witchy Woman. The play was a lot further along than I thought and they became good friends. However he also discusses Glenn’s sudden illness which happened while they were working on the musical, so for those who prefer not to be reminded of that time, be warned. The part about Glenn begins about 22:31 -

Thanks for finding this, Delilah. I, for one, was looking forward to the Hotel California musical. I doubt that it will ever come to fruition now.

It's a repeat, but, nothing wrong with posting it again. I'm sure there are some who have never seen this. Love it, and the end with the Japanese lady is too cute.

Thanks a lot, Scamp! It has been a long time since I have seen this complete of a version of this show! I really enjoyed it!
