Yes, Glenn. The interviews are in Hot Press, which is the publication from which that first story about Timothy's Irish citizenship came. My copy arrived today. They were all interviewed in Chicago and it seems like they were getting ready to fly out to the Kansas City show because the bad weather changed their travel plans causing them to scrap their planned interview with Henley.
The writer thinks Joe talks like Stewie from The Family Guy but I don't see it at all. Joe talked about spending time with Hunter S. Thompson. He likes being in a band better than being solo because with all the responsibilities and all the "you're absolutely right, Mr. Walsh"'s you get kind of stagnant. Being in a group is more creative. He said sobriety hasn't been that tough but the last 2.5 years before rehab were difficult.
The writer said Timothy was "shockingly youthful." Timothy said he celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary two days before the interview and said that Jean is a great songwriting inspiration and he's "not just talking about love songs, she's an interesting person. I get a lot from her." He praised Henley's songwriting prowess and said that Glenn's Rolling Stone comment about the Eagles minus Henley being Air Supply was a brave comment. After he saw Almost Famous he told Cameron Crowe the movie was "a mindblower that it was really great, but I can't ever watch it again! (laughing)" Also, he's not a vegetarian.
The writer described Glenn as "silver-haired" which I found odd. Glenn said their lives in the 70s were "appropriate at the time in a lot of ways but not something you want to continue, not a road you want to stay on as you get older." He said the band has a 14-18 months of a cycle left and ticked off the countries and regions of the US they haven't toured yet. He said when that's over they'll decide what to do next.

Sometimes I really wonder if some of this stuff is accurate. Excuse the cynicism but did this person actually sit down next to Glenn Frey or did he not. The mind boggles.
Anyway, thanks for filling us in on that.

Glenn - silver-haired!!! Well, only his hairdresser knows for sure! :headscratch:
I had always heard Tim was a vegan, too. But, it must have been just heresay from other fans. I guess I can't remember actually ever reading anything to confirm it.

Does it seem to anyone else that they did quite a few interviews while in Chicago? These and just the other day, we found out about those ones from that reporter in Ireland.
Anyways, I agree with FP, how were these interviews obtained. There's a couple of things so far that I'm not certain on and yes, of course, one of them is the vegetarian thing. For years now, I have always heard and read that Tim is not only vegetarian but vegan. I wonder if he has recently just changed his lifestyle and has just gone with the healthier way of living now.
I really want to see all of the interviews now.

The band apparently did a press junket for the European tour while they were in Chicago. There's nothing questionable about how they were obtained. The Hot Press writer even talked about being escorted to the hotel suites where he interviewed the guys. I assume Henley's Irish Times and Joe's Sunday Mail interviews came from the same junket.
Why would you be uncertain about Timothy not being a vegetarian when he was quoted directly? I have never been able to figure out where anyone got the vegan thing and I've read tons of interviews with the guy over the years.

Apparently I'm not the only one questioning it! It obviously has been circulated before that he is vegetarian/vegan and YES I KNOW I HAVE SEEN IT BEFORE. I also, like you, have "read tons of interviews with the guy over the years." Just saying maybe he had been a vegetarian in the past and has changed his lifestyle--lots of people do that!
I also didn't say there was anything "questionable" on how the interviews were obtained--I just said I wondered "how were these interviews obtained". Didn't accuse anyone of making anything up-- said there were a couple things I was uncertain of, one of them being the veggie thing. Geez-calm down!! I just had a question on a couple things-it isn't like anyone is calling him an axe murder or anything!! :eyebrow:

Sorry if I misunderstood. His being or not being a vegetarian is immaterial to me.
As far as the interviews go, they seem to do lots of press when they tour Europe so how these interviews were "obtained" was never a mystery to me. I just wish they'd do that kind of press on this side of the Atlantic. When they announced the European tour my first thought was "great, new interviews."
TimothyBFan
05-07-2009, 09:19 AM
tbsfan--I didn't realize that they do a lot of press while in Europe like you did so it was a mystery to me-thanks for that info. I also wish they would do many more interviews. No need to get upset because something was questioned from an interview that you posted. It's all open to discussion here as far as I have always been able to tell.
Believe me when I say I don't lay awake at night wondering if Tim is a vegetarian or not but it was something that many of us had the impression that he was so it only seems natural that we would question it when, in an interview, he states he's not.

I love any new interview that comes out, so I'm always happy to get new ones... even if the material is the same or brand spanking new.
I can totally understand why we would discuss the vegan/vegetarian/meat eating issue. Obviously many of us were under the impression Tim was vegan, so naturally we will discuss it. To blantly ignore his statement would be weird, seeing we believed something else.
Mel, I don't think it was in Felder's book, but I'll have to whip that out and double check.

You know, I think the big problems with the internet is that it's difficult to detect the tone of voice with which someone is typing.
I'm hoping the three radio interviews, Hot Press, Henley's Irish Times interview and Joe's Sunday Mail (I think it was the Sunday Mail) interview are just the tip of the iceberg with the European coverage of the tour. One of my all-time favorite Schmit interviews was a BBC radio interview he did during the 2001 tour. I remember it being well worth getting up in the dead of night (US Central time) to listen to.
Felder did mention Timothy being a vegetarian in his book. Felder mentioned a lot of things in his book.
Speaking of Felder, the Hot Press guy did ask Timothy about Felder's book and he said he skimmed through some of it "and thought it was like 'Who cares? You know, okay, fine.'" When they asked if he would ever write a memoir he said he didn't think it would be that interesting and that he doesn't have anything good or bad that would turn heads. He loves what he does, has a "fairly sane" personal life and doesn't find those books interesting.

I also brought this up in another thread where we were discussing it. I have also been hearing for years that Timothy is a vegan, but I can't recall whether I specifically heard it from a reliable source or was it just from other fans or what? When melrose mentioned it being in Felder's book, I couldn't recall it. Does anyone know about where the mention is in the book or recall anytime specifically where they have heard or read Timothy say that he was a vegan? I'm just curious like most everyone else. Like TBF said, it is possible that Tim was a practicing vegan at one time, and has since changed his lifestyle. It is also possible that he never was and the story just somehow got inacurately circulated around the fan community. Anyway, this inquiring mind wants to know.

Now, don't quote me on this, cause my mind could be playing tricks with me, but I remember it (mention of being vegetarian) being somewhere near where he is talking about Timothy becoming the new band member.
Like I said, I'm not exactly sure if that is correct or not. I could be pulling that from somewhere else. I don't have my copy of the book right now. I would check it myself if I did, but I lent it to a friend and haven't seen it for a while...

The first I heard that he was a vegetarian was when I looked up a biography of Timothy and it stated in it that he could also be found under Vegetarians of America site. I didn't bother going there because like the rest of us it didn't really matter to me.

In Don's book, page 190 - first paragraph...
"Timothy, who's nickname became the wanderer, because he was always wandering off somewhere, was married with kids, a soft-spoken, extremely likeable vegetarian, heavily into yoga.."
Now, whether or not this is true - well, I leave that to your interpretation...

On a side note, both To the Limit and Heaven and Hell say that Glenn called Randy the ribbon on the package. So, did he just recycle that line of Timothy? Hmmm...

I think, if Tim were a vegan, he would have said so, LTL. I think a lot of people just make assumptions about Tim and it becomes part of the accepted "fanlore" when it's not really accurate. That kind of thing happens all the time.

I agree, and think there are some casual fans out there who make inaccurate assumptions of all the guys in the band as well as the band itself.

Thanks, anne, for locating that in Felder's book. I guess Tim knows best though. I think if he says he's not a vegetarian, then I'll take him at his word. Unless someone has previous evidence of where Tim himself says he is vegetarian or vegan, then we don't know if he once was or not. Obviously, there has been a lot of misunderstanding about this so it is no wonder that there is a lot of confusion here.

Also don't forget that Don Felder went out of his way to portray the other band members in the most one dimensional and stereotypical manner possible. That description of Tim is practically his only mention in the book. I will stick with Tim's own words, thank you.

I'm sticking with Tim's words too, FP. I think it's kinda funny that we all thought he was vegan. I'm not sure where exactly all of that came from, but Felder's book plays a part in that puzzle. I'm thinking he went through a lifestyle change, and it is possible that he was vegetarian/vegan at one point. I wonder how long that lasted, though.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but didn't write, mainly because I have not finished the book yet...so it seemed a little biased on my part to actually say that -

Just my immediate thoughts...
I loved it when Joe referenced Grumpy Old Men - I mean, how many times have we used that term here! :hilarious:
I don't think I've ever read a Timothy interview. I was very impressed! He really has his head on straight. When he was asked if the guys still hang out together, after he explained that no, they don't, he said, "It would be kind of pitiful of we were still that way, if you think about it." Good answer! Also, when talking about being recognized he says,"I get recognized just enough to feed my ego and not enough to be a big hassle." I love his honesty!
Concerning Glenn, I too have to wonder who the interviewer was talking about. Glenn - small and silver-haired?
I also thought Glenn gave a very honest answer to the partying in the seventies question when he said, "It was appropriate at the time in a lot of ways but not something you want to continue, not a road you want to stay on as you get older."
Who can identify with that statement? :bye::shh::blush:

I've been dairy free for a while now, and I've learned that people do it for different reasons. My biggest hurdle was finding dairy-free dessert, because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't survive without ice cream (as sad as that is). But I would still like to know his reasons for nixing the dairy.
