Sorry if been discussed before but been thinking about this today as I put the ipod on Eagles and have just let it play for hours and hours and hours.

I get in the habit of listening to my favorite Eagles songs over and over or I get into a bit of a rut listening to certain Eagles albums more than others etc. Today I decided to just put Eagles on the ipod and let it go and NOT skip any as they come up. As I am listening, there are several songs that have come up that I just don't listen to that much that I am realizing that I've missed or appreciate more than I did 30+ years ago or even 1 year ago. Does that make sense? Of course the last couple of years it's always LROOE and it has always been Long Run as far as albums go. And when the anniverseries of the albums come up and we celebrate them on the board, I will go back and listen just to refresh myself, but to actually LISTEN, it's bringing forward some good stuff that I have forgotten about.

My favorite Eagles songs have always been and always will be Take It To The Limit and Best Of My Love with I Can't Tell You Why right behind them, and with the release of LROOE, Waiting In The Weeds and How Long also ranking right up there at the top. But I get in the rut with the "hits" I think... PEF, AG, HC, LE, OOTN, LITFL, NKIT... you know.

Here's the list of some of the ones that I have heard today and have pledged to listen to more often once again...

Ol 55 (confess--hated this song when I first heard it decades ago)
I Wish You Peace
Outlaw Man
Take The Devil
Pretty Maids All In A Row (I have always loved this-why don't I listen to it more?)
Midnight Flyer
On The Border (again, I always like this-but don't listen that much)

And that's not even touching on any of the solo stuff that I know I also get into a rut with. I have a lot of work to do, I now vow I will bring out EVERYTHING again and give it all a good listen, and who knows, maybe I will rediscover some old forgotten tunes or find some new favorites.

"The Last Resort" has ALWAYS been my favourite, although "Waiting In The Weeds" has recently come close to the top spot - but it'll take a lot to take TLR off the #1 position ...
Close contenders ... "My Man" "Life In The Fast Lane" "Lyin' Eyes" "Centre Of The Universe" "Saturday Night" "Hotel California" ...

Well Willie, they don't call them hits for nothin'! I don't even like to 'admit' to a favorite, but if a gun was put to my head it would probably be PEF (because it gives me a pef!), followed closely by TIE.

I'm sure the favororite song for most of us is one of the hits, but I understand what you're saying. Thank goodness for the Border because with threads like Eagles LP and OOTN we are reminded through others to give the deep tracks a good listen again!

I know I've metioned this before, but Lyin' Eyes has been in my top favorite songs of all time for decades! However, now that I own the Eagles catalog, I do not ever listen to it. Strange, eh?

I perfer to listen to album tracks and no so much of the hits that I've heard over and over and over for years and years.

Currently in the car, I pop in Eagles, skip TIE- which I LOVE and WW and go straight to Chug All Night, Most of Us Are Sad, Nightingale (rewind and play at least 3 times in row), Train Leave Here This Morning, Take the Devil and then switch the CD to OTB and listen to My Man approx 7 times in a row. This has been what I've been doing for weeks now. I can say, I don't have a favorite song... just several I LOVE.

Some I listen to more than others and that changes, but currently I am into Nightingale and My Man.

Ooooh, interesting inquiry!

I segue through phases where I listen to one or two tracks repeatedly to the point that I can recite every nuance (hellooooo “How Long”!), but my hardcore favorites (the ones that prompt a full-body jolt of attention) remain the same golden triad: “Take It Easy,” “Saturday Night” and “Take it to the Limit” (though “New Kid in Town” barely misses the money).

Potentially off-topic: interesting how we all pluck meaning/personal connections to/from radically different tracks. I’m uncertain why and do not wish to incite a riot, but for some reason I never really connected to “Desperado.” It’s unquestionably genius, but I never really identified with it. I will tote songs like “New Kid in Town” or “Take it Easy” around in my pocket as though they comprise a little piece of me I fervently wish to retain, but as a loner fundamentally veer from “Desperado.” That said, it is my Dad’s favorite song of all time, so I will defend it to the end, and the Underwood massacre of ’07 was inexcusable... :yuck:

Some of my all time favorite song are PEF, How Long, OOTN and AG,

At the moment I hear very often the albums LROOE, On the Border and their deput album Eagles!
In addition I hear often TITTL, Lyin Eyes, Doolin Dalton, Life In The Fast Lane, The Sad Cafe and The Last Resort.

What a great topic!

I have a Top 20 which remains the same pretty much although sometimes the order can change around. At the moment my approximate top 20 is:

1. Hotel California
2. New Kid In Town
3. Heartache Tonight
4. Long Road Out Of Eden
5. Lyin' Eyes
6. Take It Easy
7. Life In The Fast Lane
8. King Of Hollywood
9. Doolin-Dalton
10. What Do I Do With My Heart
11. Tequila Sunrise
12. Good Day In Hell
13. I Love To Watch A Woman Dance (despite the negativity about this song in some quarters I like it more & more)
14. Witchy Woman
15. One Of These Nights
16. Waiting In The Weeds
17. The Last Resort
18. Already Gone
19. Outlaw Man
20. Out Of Control

I have several 'dark horses' which I would say are Pretty Maids In A Row (horribly underrated), Chug All Night, Try And Love Again, The Sad Cafe, You Are Not Alone, It's Your World Now, On The Border, Take The Devil (a song which did nothing for me for years but does now).

There are a couple of obvious omissions here. I went on instinct.

WOW--I have said it here before--Desperado really doesn't do much for me either, and it makes me even sadder anymore because when I hear it, I always think of the end of an Eagles concert. Glad to hear someone else say it also. And as far as the Underwood massacre.... I have said that several times about Rascal Flatts and what they have done to Eagles tunes! :scowl: :cuss:

And I love how you said "I will tote songs like “New Kid in Town” or “Take it Easy” around in my pocket as though they comprise a little piece of me I fervently wish to retain". What a great way to put it! I always have a couple of songs I feel that strongly about at any given time in my life. They don't always seem to be the same couple tho. Different times and events in my life usually dictate which songs they are.

I must also say that I am really surprised that I seem to be the only one that considers TITTL as their fave. I really figured there would be others that felt that way. I have to admit that the version I am speaking of is the original. Nothing against Glenn's version, but like I have stated before, I just love Randy's version better.

Very happy to see Chug All Night being mentioned a couple times also. I just think it's fun.

I'm sure Soda won't mind me telling you that her favourite Eagles song is TITTL.

I feel the same way about TITTL as I do about Desperado. I have heard them both too often. Also I prefer Glenn's version of both songs so I don't think it's right to include either of them in a favourites list.

But If they are favorites, why not include them? JMHO. My list never changes.

Freypower

Because when you are listing songs the assumption is that you are listing the studio versions, sung by Don and Randy. At the moment I prefer all the other songs I listed to the studio versions of those two songs.

1. Hotel California

FP, are you saying that your all time favorite is HC? For some reason that surprises me.

Yes, it's HC, and why does that surprise you, PM?

(It has had some stiff competition recently though).

"Take It To The Limit" has been my favorite Eagles song since I started hearing it on the radio. Before that, it was "Best of My Love" and "One of These Nights."

About as often as my mood changes is how often my favorite Eagle song changes. Basically whatever song I'm hearing is my favorite.

I've mentioned in another thread that I could do without Desperado too. It's only been this past winter that I actually learned all the lyrics to it, because I never listened to it! I didn't connect w/it at all.

I guess I should say always amongst my favorites are:

TIE, PEF, Lyin' Eyes, Wasted Time - even if I don't listen to them consistanly... they are classics and I never tire of them.

Honorable mentions to After the Thrill is Gone, Those Shoes and I Can't Tell You Why.

Guess it would be easier to say my favorite off of each album. =)

Maybe it's not a fair assessment, but whenever you post a favorites list your top faves seem to be more obscure. HC is anything but obscure! :-D Don't misunderstand - I think it's a fine choice! It's my favorite song to hear live. :headbang:

My top favorites don't change, but once you get past oh the top five or so the order of the rest often changes, but they don't drop off completely.

My all-time favorite Eagles song and one of my favorite songs of ANY band is, as Freypower said:

Take It to the Limit.

I just find this song so powerful, well-crafted from its melodies to its harmonies, the way it builds, the way it just hits you with that kicker "TAKE IT to the limit ONE MORE TIME..." and here we go again.... I've called it "cinematic" before and I still think it's a word that applies well to its climactic nature. If I hear it at the right time it gives me chills. As far as Glenn vs. Randy - I am so thrilled Glenn reworked this song so that he could sing it live. Look at how the audience responds to it in concert. It's a different animal now, and I do prefer it electric, but it still gives me those chills. I hope they never drop it.

Now for the rest...

Some favorites are Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Best of My Love, Pretty Maids All in a Row, Heartache Tonight, Ol' 55, Seven Bridges Road, Those Shoes, Already Gone, Waiting in the Weeds, What Do I Do with My Heart, My Man, How Long.

Other favorites are Out of Control, Tequila Sunrise, Good Day in Hell, New Kid in Town, Midnight Flyer, Hotel California, Victim of Love, Saturday Night, Desperado, Lyin' Eyes.

My alltime favorite Eagles song, as I've said many times before, is still Take It Easy. It just always brings a smile to my face and makes me feel good. It will never change. It's been too long.

As for other favorites, they are usually pretty much the same: Peaceful Easy Feeling, Witchy Woman, Take It To The Limit, Desperado, Hotel California, Seven Bridges Road, One Of These Nights, Already Gone, Best Of My Love, Victim Of Love, Lyin' Eyes, Good Day In Hell, Out Of Control, Waiting In The Weeds, Wasted Time, How Long, New Kid In Town. Have I named all of them yet? Edited to add: No! I forgot Tequila Sunrise, Get Over It, and Somebody!

It's really hard to leave many out. I love most all of their tunes and rarely skip one if I'm playing an album. (Journey of the S, Visions, and Teenage Jail might get skipped. The others don't!) That's just me; diehard Eagles fan that loves most all of their work, no matter what!

It depends which 'favourites' list you're talking about. Perhaps my Dire Straits one (although I haven't actually posted that anywhere on this board and like the Eagles one it changes a lot).

I left out Get Over It and Somebody from my Top 20. They should both be there, which means I would remove Out Of Control and probably One Of These Nights.

Desperado will always and forever be my favorite song of all time. The lyrics are brilliant and Don sings it with such passion (especially live). It gives me chills everytime I hear it.

I always have my favorites of the moment that tend to change every week or so. I'll listen to one song over and over till I hear a different one that strikes me at the moment. Last week it was Take It Easy and this week I've been listening to Long Road Out of Eden a lot. I just love the guitar solo in that song.

I don't remember if i've mentioned before that the first Eagles song that I really liked and listened to over and over was Love Will Keep Us Alive. I was only 10 when HFO came out and although my mom played their music while I was growing up, HFO was really the first time for me to learn their songs.

these songs will never fall out of favor with me:

Take It Easy
Peaceful Easy Feeling
Most Of Us Are Sad
Train Leaves Here This Morning
Twenty-One
Doolin-Dalton(instrumental)
Doolin-Dalton(reprise)
Desperado(reprise)
Is It True
Best Of My Love
One Of These Nights
Take It To The Limit
Try And Love Again
I Can't Tell You Why
In The City
Seven Bridges Road

I can't say I have a favourite Eagles track, but there are some that I never tire of. For example:

The Long Run
Wasted Time
The Last Resort
One Of These Nights
Lyin' Eyes
I Can't Tell You Why
Peaceful Easy Feeling
New Kid In Town
Seven Bridges Road
King Of Hollywood
Take It To The Limit
Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise
Pretty Maids All In A Row

A lot of my above 'favourites' are rooted in the fact that they turned me on to the Eagles. As I've mentioned before, Wasted Time and The Last Resort on HFO completely got me. That's where it alllll started ;)

I do occasionally skip the likes of Hotel California, Take It Easy and Life In The Fast Lane - not because I dislike them, but because I've heard them so much. Hearing them live really does increase one's appreciation for these kind of songs though. I fully accept that Take It Easy and Hotel California are emblematic of the Eagles for so many people. They both have a great impact live, and the last couple of minutes of Hotel California are incredible!

LROOE and Waiting In The Weeds have joined the league of my favourite Eagles songs, too. They are true masterpieces, and they are out of this world live. Then, I have phases. Some of the songs I'm especially 'into' at the moment - probably thanks to the Birmingham concert - are Lyin' Eyes, TITTL, LROOE, Somebody & GOTC.

oh gosh....my favorite Eagles song changes all the time.....but I could do like FP and give you a rough estimate of what the top 20 fav.'s are. The top one might change from time to time but it's always going to be in the top 20. But if I had to tell you the ones that most often battle it out for THE favorite spot....it would be between

Hotel California (there's just something about it. When I listen to the song, I feel like I'm witnessing greatness all over again)
Life in the Fast Lane (Oh how I love to crank it up and roll down the windows!)
Desperado (SO gorgeous!)
Waiting In The Weeds (see above :D )
The Long Run (impossible for me not to sing along with. One of my fav.'s live)
I Can't Tell You Why (One of my fav.'s just listen to in the morning 'cause it's soothing)
Take It To The Limit (I get goosebumps everytime I listen to the live cd and hear Randy's high note at the end)
Take It Easy (who doesn't sing along with this song?)
Long Road Out Of Eden (I just love the moodiness of it)

seriously.....see what I mean? I could go on and on! There's probably even more that I'm forgetting! LOL

I couldn't even easily tell you which solo song is my favorite of the guys! Don's is the closest to being one individual favorite.

Hotel California 80

It's a bit like that for me.

Those songs are definitely among my top favourites. I listened to HFO and HC as a kid, on the radio and on vinyl (in the mid 90s).

I remember my dad saying he thought HC was the best of their albums.
Since then I heard the others, and agree.

So my favourites are pretty much the same, although a few I've discovered since are great too.

Lately I really like 'Center of the Universe', just to name one recent addition to my list.

I think Center of the Universe is lovely, too, HC80. Great harmony.
