Thanks for posting. I've seen a clip of that show (and song) before but this is much clearer. It's identified as "ABC In Concert 1973" in other versions.

August 3rd, 1973 according to setlist.fm with Earlybird, Witchy Woman and Tequila Sunrise being played.

Here's an audio bootleg from 29th June 1980:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7m6fl55ggQ

Nearly 2 hours!

After doing some quick web research, I can't advise using proxies. I deleted the proxysite.com link to that video because I'd feel bad if anyone tried to click on it and had their computer and other info compromised. If you really wanted to watch the video, you could use the website but it's at your own risk. I did watch it yesterday with that, but I don't know if there are going to be any ramifications from it.

I'm not a computer expert either, but my understanding is that free proxy servers can be easily hacked because they store much of your personal information, thereby, increasing the risk of identity theft or using your computer to commit other cyber crimes.

I don't know if this goes here.

I just saw on Facebook that a lady name Alisan Porter(if you remembered the movie, Curly Sue and she was Curly Sue) sang Desperado. She's got a beautiful voice and I thought she did a great job with Desperado.

Well, I have to say I didn't like her phrasing at all. Sure, she has a great voice but the words merged into each other and I felt the meaning suffered. But jmo :headscratch:

The classic performances videos of the 1977 Capital Center concert were available on YouTube Friday night, by Saturday night 6/25/2016 they were all pulled, giving the Warner-Chappell copyright message. :scowl:

First, an apology because I know this isn't the right place for this, it's just it deserves to be seen by everyone, not just those who venture into the JD Souther thread.

This is a really good (and recent) performance of "Heartache Tonight" by JD and a really good band. The only thing missing is the introduction in which he described how it was written (according to one report).

Thanks for posting! It's a brilliant rocking performance of the song. Although I don't think JD can quite match the power of Glenn's vocals, the combination of rock and blues guitar styles (the main riff and Joe's slide parts, respectively) that make the music on the original so great is fully present. I like to think Glenn would have been proud of it, that is how you play Heartache Tonight. Hats off to JD and his band.

In the late 80s I bought the album 5 To ! by Tom Kimmel as Joe Walsh alumni, Bill SzymczyK and Joe Vitale were major contributors.

I thought it was a terrific album with a great band. I was especially impressed with the guitarist, Kenny Greenberg. Tom's gone all adult contemporary now but I still like his stuff. I'm delighted to hear that Kenny Greenberg's still rockin' :rockguitar:

I hope J.D's performance is an audition for Irving, to show that, if he wants JD to join a future Hotel California anniversary show, he's up for it. He'll also bring How Long, Doolin/Dalton, James Dean, Heartache Tonight, The Sad Cafe, Last Good Time In Town etc. too.

I don't know where this goes. You can move it if its in the wrong place.

I was on facebook and country music singer Tim McGraw does a backstage Throwback Thursday. He and his band would sing a song. Last week, Tim and his band did Take It Easy Looking at the other videos, he only did this three times. Two weeks ago was the Allman Brothers and this week is Chicago's Hard To Say I'm Sorry.

Here's Tim singing Take It Easy. He really didn't change the song that much, but you can hear a lot of banjo on his version.

I'm guessing the graduates or students of the Berklee College of Music sing that year's honorary doctor honorees songs.

Here's Heartache Tonight. The guys (and also Alison and Mulatu Astatke) come on stage around 4:39. You see the back of their heads mostly as they shake hands with the performers, but you see them. Its funny that Don would work with Alison 3 years later on Cass County.

I always loved that line because The Osmonds are my other favorite group I listen to religiously. That tells me the guys knew about the Osmonds and how clean they were during the 70s. I guess that's a compliment from Glenn because after a few years into the 70s, the critics started to not care about the Osmonds. The Osmonds played two of their songs in their show: Heartache Tonight and Best of My Love. They've been singing Heartache Tonight since the 80s.

I have it on a bootleg, but all I can remember (it's been maybe 2 years since I watched it) is the version of "Tequila Sunrise" with the extra verse.

I remember seeing the Tequila Sunrise clip on YT a long time ago. It stands out to me b/c Glenn is wearing a floral shirt, and I don't think he wore that kind of shirt often. Surely more than two songs were performed; even if there were other acts shown, I'd love to have a clean copy of the concert.

Thanks, thelastresort! Of all the songs to perform in a short set, Earlybird seems kind of an odd choice. I guess it was a chance for Bernie to sing lead and show his banjo skills.

I'm almost positive the reason they chose it was for way it highlighted his amazing banjo playing. "Train Leaves Here This Morning" is arguably the stronger song, but that solo at the end of "Earlybird" - well you see the effect it has on the audience in the video!

Indeed. I never cared for Earlybird (and those damn chirping noises) but seguing it into Rocky Mountain Breakdown as they did do live makes the endurance worthwhile, and, as you allude to, got Bernie some very deserved recognition.

I love this show, Pippinwhite, thanks. There's something about these young guys playing music without all the extra bells and whistles, hired hands etc. Each one has his moment to shine and you get a chance to see all 4 of them up front. Then there's the dialogue that shows glimpses of their personalties (even Randy gets a word in). They seemed happy and laid-back. Knowing this kind of Eagles concert would soon become a thing of the past makes it more poignant.

Without having time to watch all of it, that does look like the standard half hour cut we get from the BBC whenever they broadcast it. Out of Control was recorded as an encore I believe and footage is available (see the EOC main site I think), and apparently Doolin-Dalton was included as a warm up, but I have never seen it anywhere.

Lovely video though, they all look so young and innocent! I do love the inclusion of songs which would later fall of the face of the earth, like Saturday Night and the Rocky Mountain Breakdown segue from Earlybird.

Indeed, the electric piano I actually think is fairly audible on the studio version!

Prior to Felder joining Glenn played rhythm guitar when doing it live. It is unfortunate that Randy's decent bass on the outro is lost in the above video, but good lord are they on it. Easily one of the best Eagles live videos going, and one of the best demonstrations of Felder and Henley's abilities.

I saw them play back in 2003 in Philly, but that was one Eagles concert I don't have very fond memories of. The band was fine, the people around totally obnoxious to the point that their singing and screaming overpowered them. F1 was probably the last time they played it.

This is such an incredible performance of "Outlaw Man." Glenn's vocals are fabulous, and he really does give a clinic on rock piano. How do you have your keyboard work stand out in this very on-fire band? Listen to this song. I don't think I've ever seen DH wail on the drums like he does here. He was putting a hurt on those things! Randy's bass was spot-on, too, and it's just a great performance.

I caught the "In a '56 Chevrolet" lyric (instead of "riding night and day") and I know that was in the David Blue original. As far as I can tell, everything else is the same as the Eagles recorded version except for some extra "It only looks like rain" at the end. I was surprised at how many differences there are between the original and the Eagles recording. A verse dropped and a verse added, words rearranged, and David Blue was heading to San Francisco not Oklahoma.

They played James Dean on the F1 tour? I didn't think they played this at all after the 70s. It seemed to me that certain songs like James Dean, Good Day in Hell, and Outlaw Man, for example, were dropped out of the setlist post-reunion. I've wondered if this is because they only played the big hits after that, or did they feel like they were too old to perform these anymore. There is something about the above three songs that says youth to me.

They didn't play at every show, but they did at this particular one. They also played "Turn To Stone" which was a nice surprise. However, from my remembrances of this one, I have more bad memories from it than good ones. The set list was fantastic, the performances not their best (Glenn had pitch problems throughout most of the night on his lead vocals) and the crowd was just obnoxious. And it was 100 degrees outside and not much cooler inside!

I agree. I would love if they had played those songs but it’s a sense of fun and youth that is not natural to them at this age. But Those Shoes is kinda similar in that it’s not something they would write now and it’s more rock. So maybe they could pull it off

The account Eagles Music seems to have a LOT of bootlegs and unreleased material, they uploaded some songs from the band called “John” “crazy about you”, “we’re under arrest”, “goose moosers” (the “empty sunrise was in my face” in HOTE is this song), and “on third street”. They seem to be either joke songs for fun or largely instrumentals. Interesting nonetheless, something else interesting I found was a bootleg from veterans memorial colesium in new haven in 1977 where the band plays HC, and NKIT but they also play Doolin Dalton/ desperado reprise. I’m shocked they still played that song at that point. I thought once Bernie left they dropped it, let alone playing it during the HC era. Here is a link to the bootleg which can take you to the site where they have other bootlegs, unreleased material, and outtakes.

My one guess would be joe vitale but I can’t think of anyone else who they use. I’m not sure they used Vitale before Walsh came on board

There typically wasn't (at least until the Reunion period), but in this case there is a special guest who plays basically a more audible version of Henley's studio drumming. I jut can't work out who :headscratch:

You’re so right! That is awesome. I’ve only seen some so far but I love seeing Glenn call out stuff like “this is when it stops” or like “medium verse”. I wonder if when they hummed the melody if they were just not wanting to sing the lyrics or if they didn’t have lyrics at that point. HC sounds a lot different too. Was that the original key the song was in on the tape Felder gave? It sure is different and apparently it was called “big night” instead. Thanks Delilah for sharing. I need to listen to the rest of it

Delilah

You’re welcome, LT and YEF. I’m not sure about the key change on HC; I’ll have to give it another listen when I have time. It sounds like they were just trying to lay down the instrumental tracks and weren’t concentrating on the vocals at that point. “Bull Pig” towards the end cracked me up.

Now why the heck couldn’t this have been included with the 40th Anniversary deluxe edition? :eyebrow:

I listened to a Podcast based out of National Review about the Eagles. It’s about an hour long and it talks about mostly the albums and their takes on the songs and such. Personally I don’t think they were fair in their analysis and they seem ignorant on certain facts though they did seem to have a good understanding and enjoyment of deeper tracks. But they made unfair assertions towards both don’s And Glenn. They seemed to overrate Joe Walsh contributions. Overall I was dissapointed by their analysis but I was happy that they said they liked Bitter creek, My Man, train leaves here this morning, out of control, And tryin. I lost the link but if you look up National review Eagles episode six you can find it on another website. It is also on iTunes

For example, near the beginning there's a takeoff of someone that I though might be Barry White but at some point "he" refers to himself as "Lou" so I'm thinking it's Lou Rawls (pronounced "loo rolls" which was mildly amusing here in the UK).

So. This is totally random and kinda "out there", but it still made me laugh, and maybe you all will get a chuckle, too.

I work for an online company that posts deals about items that run the gamut from clothes to furniture to electronics and literally everything in between. Had a deal for this thing called a "Drain Wig," which catches hair in your drains. Yeah. ANYWAY, I looked up a review on it on YouTube to see if it actually works. (It does, apparently), but one of the suggested videos that popped up was the Don Kirshner clip of PEF -- with Glenn and all that magnificent hair. LOLOLOLOL. I just thought that was strangely apropos, to say nothing of being funny.

There's a thread in this section several pages back called Eagles Guitars and it has a guitar model identifer. Sometimes that can help determine what guitar or bass is what. All the guitar models the guys have used from 1972 up to 2016 are in that thread on the first page at the bottom. I just updated it with the 51 Telecaster bass/early Precision.

Thanks Soda, good to know. It's weird this was done in 2005 and yet I do not recall ever hearing about it.

I found a link and will post it on the unofficial documentary thread.

The "Too Busy Being Fabulous" video has surfaced on Vimeo. I swear, I'd forgotten how sneaky-funny it was.

Thank for the link, pippin. That is such a cute video - it makes the song more enjoyable for me.

Not my cup of tea tbh. I really don't like this song.

The song is not one of my favorites either, but I think the video is fun.

I was just glad they made a real video and didn't just film themselves performing again (or pretending to perform).

Me too! And I've always liked BBF!

I love the role playing. The ladies hitting on Timothy, Joe's monkey, Glenn as a bartender. I also love the end where the guys are at a table smoking cigars, drinking champagne(or is it wine) and just having fun.

Yeah shun - you mean that last scene around the huge boardroom table where the guys are busy being fabulous.

And since we're coming up on the anniversary of the LROOE release very soon, I checked Vimeo to see if they had the How Long video, and whadaya know ...

How Long is on YouTube which I'm surprised it hasn't been taken down.

Always liked that BBF video, despite not being a huge fan of the song. Love how they recycled bits of it for the backing footage to Those Shoes on the History tour, and, as shun says, to see them doing something a bit different. It too enjoy that closing scene of them at the end of the night just smoking and drinking.

Yep - I agree with shun - I'm surprised it hasn't been taken down from YouTube.
