Kate, there is a new Timmy song called Do Something and the other song sang by Don is called Fast Company. I just called my aunt in the US but she was still sleeping LOL. She'll call back later and I will ask her to go to WalMart today as soon as possible and buy it so I can listen to the songs by phone.

Okay you ladies who can't buy the new CD - don't worry. I'm sure your friends here will take good care of you, and make sure you get a copy. I'm going to head out to Walmart tonight or tomorrow to see if I can get a copy. I'd offer to get a copy for everyone, but the problem is I refuse to use PayPal so, it would probably be better to let someone who uses it buy the DVD/CD for you to make the transfer of funds easier. If anyone just wants a copy of the CD only, I'll be glad to burn it for you.

Well, I braved the unruly mobs today at WalMart. With absolutely NO help from three sales associates, I finally found the DVD/CD display (over near the children's clothing -- makes sense, doesn't it?http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif ). I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the CD in the parking lot and saw the two new songs. Sat right there and listened to them both!
I really like the Don/Glenn one. As much as I adore Timmy's voice and that I'm thrilled he's getting writing credits for this new one, I really had hoped his wouldn't be another sappy love song. Hey, I'll take it no matter what!

I popped over to Walmart this evening. Almost gave up looking for the DVD/CD. Found it in a display, knee level -I think I walked past it about 3 times. I'm pretty sure I took the very first one out of the bin -apparently no Eagles fans besides me in this town.
The Timmy song (Do Something) is quite lovely. The other, Fast Life, hmmmm. I don't know. Maybe it will grow on me.

Just got home from Wal-Mart... my first impressions:
No More Cloudy Days is a studio version... there are subtle differences from FW1 and, if anything, it sounds even more heartfelt and soulful.
I love the horns in Fast Company, the falsetto is... interesting. I love the beat and the funkiness.
I really love the end/bridge part in Do Something... it's GORGEOUS.
I am astounded at how well the harmonies sound in all three... you can hear every voice so clearly!!! Also, the three songs are so different and really showcase the range of their music.

I braved two Austin Walmarts in a Texas A&M sweatshirt (we just beat University of Texas 12-7) to find this. The Walmart associates at the first were absolutely clueless, but at the second, I had more luck.
No More Cloudy Days- I agree with Irene above.
Fast Company- Seems very retro. Good beat. Not impressed with Don's falsetto (I'd rather hear his sexy normal voice), but the harmonies are great. You can hear Glenn very well in the chorus. I do love the line "Fast company... you're going nowhere fast."
Do Something- gorgeous. Tim's vocals are terrific, lovely melody, and I like the country-fied arrangement. Easy on the ears, that's for sure!

Here's the lyrics for "Fast Company." There are a couple lines I'm not sure of - if I could get some help, that would be great! I'll do Tim's later - right now, the family awaits!
Fast Company
Now, where you going?
Now, what’s the rush?
You listen here
No, you just hush
I know what you think
That man don’t know anything
But I’ve been around a while
I know what’s happening
Everybody wanna check you out
Everybody wanna be your friend
And all this pressure
Where do I fit in?
They don’t own up and you don’t know (?)
Ain’t got nothing you ain’t got
But you keep on runnin, you keep on runnin’ with the
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
Now it’s alright
To have some fun
This is your time
Your life has just begun
You race straight out the door
Don’t have very much to say
Your motor’s runnin’ hot
You can’t wait [?] anyway
Lookin’ up the road ahead
You can’t see very far
Remember where you come from
Remember who you are
Be careful what you say
Be careful who you trust
This world is beautiful
This world is dangerous
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
Talk to me and help me try to remember
How it feels to be so in doubt (?)
Talk to me and help me try to remember
That ragin’ fire that the years put out
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
Fast company
Fast company
You’re going nowhere, you’re going nowhere fast
(Repeat a few times)

In the meantime I've heard these new songs and I have to say Do Something killed me. The melody and harmonies are wonderful and Timmy's voice is superb. Love it from start to finish. That's a characteristic Eagles song to my liking. :D
Fast Company, I'm not sure yet. I really like this song however it sounds more like a Don solo song. Reminds me of Inside Job. I think I need to listen to it more often.
All in all I'm really happy about these new songs. Can't wait for new album. :D

And the lyrics to Do Something:
Do Something
I’ve been walkin’ through the fields
And on the streets of town
Trying to make sense of what you left me
Everything that I believed in
Has been turned upside down
And now it seems the whole wide world’s gone crazy
But when I feel like giving up
And I’m ready to walk away
In the stillness, I can hear
A voice inside me say
Do something
Do something
It’s too late for saving face
Don’t just stand there takin’ up space
Why don’t you do something?
Do something
It’s not over
No, it’s never too late
You were always on my side
Love was all we had
Now I sit and watch our love unraveling
I pick up the morning paper
All the news is bad
How did we get on this road we’re traveling?
But when I feel like giving up
And there’s nowhere left to go
That’s the time I dig down deep
The only thing I know
Do something
Do something
Don’t leave it up for someone else
Don’t feel sorry for yourself
Why don’t you do something?
Do something
It’s not over
No, it’s never too late
Run away
Don: You can’t run away
All your honor
For your pride
You’ll sleep better
Knowin’ you tried
To do something
Do something
It’s too easy not to care
You’re not ready for the rockin’ chair
Get up and do something
Do something
Don’t wait too long
Even if it’s wrong
You’ve got to do something
Do something
It’s not over
No, it’s never too late

A little lyrics analysis:
Fast Company seems like a straightfoward cautionary tale to new kids in town; however, I like that the bridge towards the end complicates matters with the 'veteran' yearning for the 'lean and hungry' days.
Do Something is certainly very readily applicable to the Eagles and the new album they've been alluding to since 2001, isn't it?

WOW!! That's all I can say! Thanks so much for getting those lyrics down, Nancy. I see Fast Company as a father talking to his son, with some wistful memories of his own youth. Do Something - on the surface about a failing relationship, but it could equally apply to a lot of decisions people need to make in life.
I think I'll have to wait and see if it comes out over here as the DVD won't play on my equipment. I downloaded a free decoder to watch Almost Famous when Kay sent it to me, but it was a trial and has expired.

Well - I got the DVD from Walmart today, and sadly I had a similar bad experience with the Walmart personnel. I was told if it wasn't over on 'that ailse' then it wouldn't be in the store until Tuesday. I told the guy that it was in the store somewhere in a special display and his answer was "these things happen" http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/devil.gif
So I proceeded to search the store myself until I found the display with the DVDs. Imagine that!
I love both of the new songs. They are very different. Although I prefer Don's natural voice, the falsetto in Fast Company isn't bad. I think this funky little tune may appeal to younger audiences as well.
Do Something is beautiful. Tim shines in this and I also love the part where Don sings, even though it is very short.
I wonder why they didn't put One Day at a Time on the CD so that all four guys would have a lead vocal?

I wondered that too... but maybe that song is just to personal for Joe.... he sang it for awhile got his message out and moved on... just a guess tho.
sodascouts
11-26-2006, 01:47 AM
I also wondered about that. I don't think it's because it was too personal. Yes, it is very personal for Joe, but he's already sung it live in front of thousands of people - and the millions who have bought the DVD. After laying yourself bare in concert, putting out a studio version would be a piece of cake.
I imagine that the only reason these songs are being released is because Walmart told the Eagles that they expected some new material for the holidays. With no album, the Eagles instead produced a few new tracks for Walmart to tack into Farewell 1 instead.
My guess is that they felt ODAAT didn't go over well enough to warrant a full studio treatment. So, when Walmart demanded some new material, they didn't have a studio cut of it to send them. Perhaps Joe didn't have any outtakes they could have used instead, either. That's just my uninformed guess.

It was so exciting to come back from my mother's house (where there is no computer access) from Thanksgiving and read everyone's posts about the new songs! I was shopping with my family all day on Friday, braving the holiday crowds, and didn't even make it to Walmart until late that night. Popped in the new CD and literally screamed to realize they were really new songs. What a terrific surprise!
LOVE Fast Company. Talk about "your motor's running hot"-- indeed!
Love "Do Something" too. The chorus of that one actually stuck in my head the longest.
Beautiful vocals on both and great arrangements. Wonderful job by all the guys!
This definitely helped make this a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday for me. Now I can't wait to hear all the other new songs on the new album.
If I'm not mistaken, WalMart has some pretty bizarre "family values" standards and they may have frowned about a song about someone's battle with alcoholism. I vaguely recall them raising a stink about uncensored lyrics -- you know, in the music department right next to where they sell ammunition. http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif

I'm sorry, but although the Eagles have done a deal with Walmart, that relates to marketing. I don't believe that Walmart suddenly told them to release new tracks. The Eagles don't work that way. The tracks have been released because the Eagles want to test the market, not at Walmart's behest.

I think the first puzzler is:

I love the line in Do Something when Timmy sings “You’re not ready for the rocking chair.” Makes me grin every time. I take that as kind of an inside joke with the guys, bec the younger music critics have a tendency to pigeonhole the Eagles as “old”, and that is pure BS!

I love both songs! Surprise!
Fast Co. really reminds me of the Long Run era, Disco Strangler and King of Hollywood. Surely it's not something they found in a vault somewhere and dusted off. I am not of fan of Don's falsetto, but I really like the song. It's funky, cool and I think it could be played on alternative rock radio. If only they knew about it!
Do Something is beautiful and I love Don's part. That's what I love to hear from Don. I first thought-Poco, then remembered Tim's FtF and it fits with it really well. I can definitely hear it on country radio, CMT and GAC. Think they'll do a video for that? I wish.
Anyways, I'm happy!

Nancy - I looked at your Fast Company lyrics and they look good to me. Like I said earlier, I think that Fast Company may appeal to the younger generation. I can't wait to play it to my young nieces to test my theory.
As far as Do Something - I can't get it out of my head. I woke up in the middle of the night and it was playing in my head. I thought at first it sounded like some of Tim's solo work, too, but when they break into the harmonies, it is so vintage Eagles that it 'does something' to me. ;)

I actually embarrassed myself today by singing the chorus to "Do Something" absent-mindedly while walking out to the parking lot. I only realized I was doing it when I passed a guy walking his dog near my car and saw him look at me strangely. In a attempt to cover my embarrassment, I converted my "no, it's never too la..." into a cough as I hurried past him with my head down, lol. Ack, the perils of allowing a song to run through your head too often.

OK...now I can't remember which song it is, but on one of them I can hear Glenn in the way he pronounces one of the words. But the harmonies are so very balanced and blended it's difficult. Have you tried it with earphones? That might help.

I definately agree that Glenn's voice is predominent in the chorus of Fast Company. On the other hand, I think it's harder to pick out the voices in the chorus of Do Something because of the way the harmonies blend so beautifully. I can clearly hear Don, but I'm having a hard time picking out the others.

The latest theory is that it's Glenn who sings the chorus of Fast Company, not Don at all. I feel even more of an idiot now not recognising his voice. I hope it will be more obvious when I next listen to it.

ooh, I like that theory! He's so clear as to be dominant, so why not call him the lead singer on the chorus? I can change it on my lyrics page!

LOL
I can clearly hear Don, but I'm having a hard time picking out the others.
Me too. I will listen to the songs more carefully to hear Glenn's voice. I've listened to them only on my PC so far and the speakers are not the best. Since I'm still waiting for my copy from the US I'll put these two on a CD so I can play them in the CD player for a better sound.

I was lucky enough to first hear this CD on my brother-in-law's magnificent home sound system in Austin (he has expensive speakers wired in various positions around his den for the "premium aural experience" - men and their toys, lol). Sadly, now that I'm back on my puny speakers at home, it's not so easy to pick out individual voices!

I've been listening to these songs over and over and I just can not get over Don's voice in Fast Co! My gosh, what range he has! And he can do so much with his voice. I really don't know anything about voice or music or how to express what I'm trying to say. Is that clear?! http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif I just know I'm amazed at it in this song. And I knew he did this all the time, but it's so evident here. Blah, blah, blah!
I really can't tell that's Glenn, but I'm willing to believe! It's all wonderful!
And Tim sounds just beautiful in his song, too. But what would you expect?!

I had the CD playing today as I was on the computer. After I found myself absently moving with the beat and mouthing the words to Fast Company's chorus as it played, I realized that I officially like it now! I know you were all waiting on pins and needles for that announcement. ;)
