If I read it right on a Google alert, the Eagles are up for a CMT award again. I think it is for Best Group, but we all know that if Rascal Flats is in there they will win, they always do right now.

Yes! I just read it on CMT, but it's the CMA awards.
Vocal group of the year along with Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, and Zac Brown Band. I can't see anyone but RF competing with them, although I really like LA and LBT.
It's November 11th on ABC. Now, who's going to Nashville?

I wish!
You never know if they could pull out an upset but... it still blows my mind that the Eagles would be nominated for Vocal [Country] Group of the Year.
Thanks for the heads up, AEF!

CMTelevision owns the CMAwards...thus a bit of confusion sometimes. And while I would love to see the Eagles take it home (stranger things have happened), I suspect that Lady Antebellum is going to walk away with the trophy. They've been winning like crazy lately. Let's light our candles and say our prayers...and if we have a chance to vote -- well, we all know the drill!

Wow - that is great news. Thanks for the heads up AEF. I think this is newsworthy enough to have it's own thread, so I think I'll create one and move these posts.
CONGRATULATIONS EAGLES!!!

I would even take them playing at the awards show or have a couple of them present an award. Maybe Joe and Timothy could present Kenny Chesney with an award so Joe could give he another bowling trophy for winning so many awards.

I guess that means I have to watch another Country awards show! Ugh!!!:brickwall: I hope they perform. Cynd-you said someone other than Rascal Flatts could win this one huh? I really really want to see our boys win this but if they don't, I really really want to see someone other than RF do it!

I'm not much of a country fan either, but I do like Little Big Town. Ironically, it was while I was online looking for tickets to a Carrie Underwood/LBT show that I saw that the Eagles were going to be in Chicago last September. Needless to say, I forgot all about the LBT show and concentrated on getting Eagles tickets. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I saw Rascal Flatts a few years back when they opened for Toby Keith and they ARE good. But they've dominated their category for so long...would be nice to see someone else take home the trophy this year. OF COURSE I WANT OUR BOYS TO WIN, but if they have to take a backseat, I'd rather see Lady Antebellum get the prize. And again, if the fans get an opportunity to vote, we need to stuff the ballot box!

You would think that Rascal Flatts would graciously decline the nomination these days. Can't they do that? How many times have they won?

Why would they do that? They're very talented, and very popular

Well, Oprah is very popular too, but at some point years ago she graciously took herself out of the running to be nominated for an emmy. She realized that she had won enough and bowed out to give some others a chance. I don't think it's uncommon, or is it?

I think it is a bit uncommon, although very nice of Oprah. I know I can't think of another instance.
Rascal Flatts are younger and I don't think such things even occur to them! lol

Great news that the guys have been nominated...I'll watch the awards show just to see them perform (hopefully!)
If they do, any guesses on what they'll play? I guessed correctly (BBF) at the last awards ceremony, knowing they'd played HL the year before, and that they needed to play something "a little country" and that it would probably be from LROE.
I'm not sure about this year though...one of the classic songs would be great.

Funny that you should mention that Lynn. Soda and I were discussing that just last night - if you want a classic, they could always do Take It Easy.
You know I'm not a big country music fan either, but I really did enjoy the show the year I saw it live (maybe cause it was the first time I saw our guys perform How Long). Watching it on TV last year though was really disappointing for me. It was almost as if it were a rerun of the previous year because virtually every single award went to the same artist or group. I really do think they should find a way to mix it up a bit. If it takes artists removing their names from contention, then I'd say good on them. JMHO

Good pick...I would love to see them do Ol' 55, which probably isn't considered a classic of theirs (I heard it for the first time a couple of months ago on our classic rock station and couldn't get out of my head), but has a great country feel.

Soda, Dreamer and I really did have a fantastic time watching them perform "How Long" at the awards show in Nashville the year we all attended. :partytime:
I am thrilled the guys have been nominated again and would love to see them perform at the show, but I doubt they will come back again. It would be wonderful if they won, though!

Take It Easy would be fantastic, but I'd guess them to perform a song from LROOE, although, they haven't released any more singles from it, have they?
I really doubt they attend as a band.

Oh my gosh, I wish! I love that song! But sadly a long shot. :(
I'm not sure what to expect. On the one hand, they don't have a single to promote, so maybe they wouldn't want to bother. They've never been big on performing at awards shows, especially since the sound mix in the venue and hence the broadcast is usually pretty lousy. Additionally, it's highly unlikely they'll win.
On the other hand, they're not doing anything right now, and they're up for a big award. Keeping in the public eye wouldn't hurt - especially since they have been courting the country market since the release of LROOE.
If they do show up, I think they'll probably pull out their signature country-rock tune Take It Easy. Everybody loves it, it'll get the place going, and they won't need more than a run through the day of to check sound at the venue.
I don't think they'd do a LROOE song because out of those they perform regularly and haven't already done at the CMAs - Guilty of the Crime, No More Walks in the Woods, Waiting in the Weeds, No More Cloudy Days, Long Road Out of Eden, Somebody, and I Don't Want to Hear Any More - only IDWTHAM has a country tinge to it. Still, I don't think it's the kind of song they'd feature at a venue like this... although stranger things have happened. I doubt they'd pull a new song out of the box for this one that they haven't performed live before, but if they did, it would probably What Do I Do with My Heart since I hear that's been released to radio if not a single per se. The only down side to that song is it's a bit slow for these kind of events where people want to see the Eagles country-rockin' out.
So, to sum up all of that... I doubt they will be there, but if they are, they'll probably do Take It Easy. Heck, if they're there at all, I'll be so excited I won't care what they play!

Re: IDWTHAM....Not to diss any of the Tim fans, but I can't see them performing anything that doesn't feature Glenn or Don as lead for the song at a major awards ceremony.
And while I'd LOVE to hear any of those songs out of LROE, they either a) aren't country enough, or b) don't fall into the 3:05 mold ;)

If the Eagles didn't take this one home for LROOE before, they probably have little chance of doing it this year.
If they really want to showcase they're vocals, NMWITW would be wonderful, maybe leading into a "countrified" classic like Tequila Sunrise or TIE. Remember, country artists have been covering the Eagles for years.
No need to watch, I'm sure the winners will be Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift, Rascall Flatts and throw in King George Straight for good measure to keep the older fans happy.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about melding NMWITW with something older and more known. Interesting idea!
I think your predictions will be dead-on.
Since the Eagles can be fairly certain they aren't going to win, I guess it just becomes "Will the benefits of playing the nationally-broadcast CMAs be great enough to justify the bother?"

Congratulations to our guys for getting a nomination, but I agree with you all that the judges will go for their usual bands.

I haven't seen a line up of performers yet. Since the guys are taking five and resting up I wonder if they will even attend let alone perform?

My guess is if they were to attend, then they would perform. However, I'm with those of you who think that it is very doubtful that they will attend.

I had a dream prior to last year's awards - they were nominated for Album of the Year (cannot recall whether they were IRL; wasn't LROE the year before?). Anyway, in Dreamland they all appeared onstage for Album of the Year and instead of accepting the reward Glenn said, "We wish you would get our genre right." Don hopped in, "We're in the rock and roll hall of fame; have you heard?" They both stormed off. Tim shrugged and unleashed his best sheepish what-can-you-do, I'm-sorry-on-their-behalf look at the crowd, and then Joe waved his arms out like Nixon flashing dual peace signs and Spamalot-style confetti exploded onto everyone.
That evening my personal favorite King Strait won for Troubadour so I truly enjoyed the Best of Both Worlds.
The nominees are really peculiar... it's like a clique, the same batch every year. Although I have this persistent daydream that George Strait turns 60 and then wins Entertainer of the Year again. He has too much class to stick out his tongue but that'd really be icing on the cake.
