I don't hear a stutter. Maybe a little bit of a self-conscious public speaker trying to figure out what he's going to say next or how to say it - pausing, halting or repeating himself. Do we have part 2 of the video??!!
Ive always been a dreamer
10-27-2013, 09:57 PM
I know what you're saying, PM. I don't think Tim's stutter is a speech impediment though - I think it's probably just a nervous habit of repeating himself as MC said.

I don't think that was a stutter either. It seemed like he was not expecting some of these questions so he was thinking of what to say before he spoke. Interviews can be tricky because you have to really be careful what you get out there because it is out there forever!!! lol So I think he was just thinking it out as it went along.

SS - did you go back and see the early Poco video where they're in Europe and like, sitting on the stage and they're being interviewed and Timothy introduces himself as "Tim" and says, "I guess that's about it" or something like that? Its really old and poor quality, but so cute. If you haven't seen it I'll go back and find it in one of the threads.

He was definitely more "aggressive" with his singing and mannerisms. He sort of attacked the song - from the videos I have seen, not that I ever saw him live with Poco. He may have had some voice training that resulted in an adjustment to how he holds himself and addresses the mike, or he may just have evolved over time, like we all do. Maybe became a little more reserved in his mannerisms when he joined the Eagles.
zeldabjr
11-01-2013, 08:36 PM
I think I saw somewhere...that he never had any voice training until after he had the surfboard accident...but I think it just might be the kind of songs Poco did...the only songs he sings lead with the Eagles are ballads...wasn't the case with Poco...they did foot stompin' music!!...just a thought...
SallyGee

I also noticed a change from his Poco days when he was with the Eagles. Maybe it was just him maturing as well as the different types of songs. I love him either way.

I love the Bob River's interview... because it took place in Seattle (where I'm from) and because it's Timothy... there is another one, I'm not sure if it's attached to this one where he sings too...
The music with Steve Perry and David Pack, this is a gorgeous CD and they are my three favorite singers. I have these music CD's playing constantly: Hell Freezes Over, Very Best of The Eagles, Journey's Greatest Hits, Steve Perry Street Party, Ambrosia Anthology and David Pack's Secret of Moving On.... I was thrilled to learn that all three were on this last CD.

Does anyone know how to get that video of ICTYW in the studio that they showed parts of in the doc? I swear I used to be able to pull it up on youtube, but I can't find it now. I was thinking about a couple of parts in it where Don Felder is looking directly at Timothy and I swear it looks like he is IN LOVE with Timothy! Who would blame him. It's probably just that sleepy, sexy look Felder can get sometimes...but I wanted to look at it again and I can't find it. I might be "misremembering" or dreamed it or something, so I want to confirm. (Not confirm that Felder is indeed in love with TBS, but that he has that look on his face.)
ETA: I'm an idiot, it looks like Soda has it right here on the EOC filmography site, but I can't download it on this machine, have to go to another. Back in a flash.

Between 1986 and 1987, Timothy appeared on three episodes of the sitcom “Throb.” The episodes on YouTube are dubbed in German. I’m sorry, I couldn’t find the original English-spoken version on the Internet. Well, at least the musical performances aren’t dubbed.
In 1986, he appeared on an episode in a very small role as a character named Rex. He appears from 0:40 to 3:40.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4FI14SoJOE
In 1987, Timothy appeared as a musical guest on two episodes.
In the first episode, he performs a part of “I Can’t Tell You Why.” He appears at about 15:35 but starts performing at about 18:25.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-sxMxqY6m0
In the second episode, Timothy appears from 2:00 to 3:30 doing another part of “I Can’t Tell You Why.”
He then performs with an “all-star band” including Nicolette Larson, Vesta Williams, Jeff Porcaro of Toto, Jeff Lorber, Grant Geissman and George Marinelli of Bruce Hornsby and the Range.
The band gets introduced at about 16:40.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHD8b0cMJPM
Timothy’s musical performances in this show are amazing! He’s such a great and versatile singer! He can sing ballads beautifully, but he can also sing rock songs very well. I think that he’s been far too underused as a lead singer in the Eagles. He deserved to sing more songs.

Oh my gosh, SM, thank you for finding these and posting them!!! I don't know where to start...
First of all - Jane Leeves with giant hair, ha! And, a very young and adorable Paul Walker!! I was not expecting that.
In the 2nd & 3rd videos, I'm sure that's Jean sitting at the table next to Timothy. She's wearing the same gold lame dress I wore to prom that year.
And finally, Timothy B. - what a gorgeous face, especially in a ton of makeup!! Like most, I prefer him with his long hair, but wow, those clips from '87 - so ridiculously good looking. And his singing...so good.
Thanks again, SM. Agree that his voice sounds so good in the lower register on rock songs...we'll have to make do with old Poco videos!

The first four songs of these shows are pretty "choreographed"...if one is an Eagle, one does not simply decide to get up and groove when one is seated on the road boxes, haha! You can tell he realized right off that the guy wasn't a fan but some lame paparazzi, which is why he had no patience for him.

Love that Richard Marx video. Thanks for posting that again, tf.
And I think that the video of Tim getting angry is so intriguing to us because it goes across the grain of how we envision him as being mild-mannered and never getting his feathers ruffled. I love it because it confirms my belief that he has an edge about him. While I think he probably is a fairly easy-going guy, I always thought he might not be quite as meek or shy as some may think. To me, this is what makes him such a great fit for his role in the band. While not one to make a lot of waves, neither is he a pushover, complainer, or instigator. I believe he is secure enough so that he can hold his own against the stronger personalities in the band, but he doesn't want to be front and center all the time. Nicely said, Dreamer. Timothy has the "intangibles" (to use a sports term) that have enabled him to be successful long-term in a very difficult business. I think you nailed it on the head about his being secure. Since he was a teenager, he has been confident of his place in the music world, even if he has had to hustle at times, he was able to make it, always working. He has managed to remain a member of one of the most controversial bands of all time not by being a pushover, but by wisely maneuvering through all of the potential minefields over the past 37 years, backing it up with his solid musical talent. [this isn't even taking into consideration his 8 years in Poco, which doesn't sound like a joyride]

Well said! Timothy has said before that "I have my place in the band". I always took that to mean that He is secure enough to know that he is needed and has some security there, but wise enough to see what has happened when others decided to rock the boat. I'm sure he speaks up, but only when it really matters to him.

very well put Dreamer and tjh, Timothy must indeed be quite the diplomat to have been able to maneuver so well and like he's said he's not a trouble maker by nature so he's able to always stay in relatively friendly terms with the others, i.e. A VERY SPECIAL GUY

I've also seen only the second part of it and really wanted to catch the first one, since the interviewer did a great job and made Timothy feel comfortable.
Thanks, tjh, for the link!
I have to say that there is a special moment in the video posted by tjh that confirms my earlier observation: Timothy has the sweetest laugh/smile/giggle (not sure which word fits it best). I noticed that in HotE, and now I see it here. Check it out, if you want, at 4:58, after the "cough button"remark :-)

I haven't seen much discussion about the videos Soda has on TBS online - see here:
http://www.timothybschmitonline.com/downloads/multimedialivevideo.htm
They're not streaming, you have to download them to your computer. I just watched ICTYW and LWKUA - hubba hubba! I think that is the best I have ever heard him sing ICTYW. And on LWKUA Don and Glenn mention the "Pittsburgh squealers" before Timothy sings, haha.
Boys Night Out on Solid Gold is pretty much what you would expect it to be - lip synced, totally 80s, Timothy not knowing what to do without an instrument in his hands, BUT - he is gorgeous, and I did NOT expect the female bass player with the big blond 80s hair and one-shouldered top!!

In honor of the 41st Anniversary of the release of POCO's DELIVERIN'
Here's one of the first songs Timothy wrote for this great album, "Hard LucK"
http://youtu.be/bjrvxL4ZYjk
Bringing this forward - so great, thanks TK!
So I was looking at Poco albums on Wikipedia. Their first album was recorded in 1969 - Randy left/was fired because they wouldn't let him help with the mix/production - it was to be Messina and Furay only. Their second album was recorded in 1970, with just Messina producing. Then, their third album Deliverin' was also recorded in 1970 (live) and guess who is credited with producing it? Messina and Timothy! Never knew that.
Also never knew that the cover of the "Poco" album (with young Tim in brown jacket) is hanging in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
I'm so glad all of Timothy's hard work and talent in Poco paid off for him, albeit with a different band!

I have a theory (I'm probably not the only one) that if Poco had deployed a PR/media strategy under which Timothy B. was portrayed as the front-and-center full-time lead singer front man, maybe that would have kicked them to where they belonged commercially. Especially after Richie Furay left. You can be as good a musician as anyone out there, but bottom line, it's still the entertainment industry, and handsome sells. I'm sure the other guys in Poco are wonderful men and really talented musicians, but there is zero sex appeal going on with them. Just watching these videos reinforces how really, truly good their music was, and it's not like they were obscure - everyone knew them and their music in that scene at that time. It would be cynical and crass, but at some point, they needed to put Timothy out there. Maybe they did just that, but from the clips and album covers, it doesn't seem like it. Just a thought, don't want to make anyone mad. We need someone's opinion who actually was a fan then... Topkat?
Freypower
08-05-2014, 06:18 PM
I am no expert but from what I can tell from the Gold CD, Tim wasn't the lead singer. Most of the songs are sung either by Richie Furay or Paul Cotton. Tim only sang a handful of tracks (I don't know how many he sang that I haven't heard) so it would have been hard to promote him as lead singer if he wasn't.
MaryCalifornia
08-05-2014, 08:50 PM
They really seemed to split up the singing - I'm sure we could analyze it by album, if one were so inclined. Timothy wrote, sang lead and/or co-lead on lots of their songs. That's why I was thinking that after Richie left the band in 1974...
I've seen so many shows about bands that started out as true bands - i.e. everything is equal, and end up pushing the pretty one with the good voice out front physically and symbolically (The GoGos, the Bangles and No Doubt all immediately come to mind). The thing is, Timothy might not have the personality or desire to be the front man of a band. That would be a rough transition from being the new, young guy in the band to being the star. Also, we've seen some info that he and Rusty Young aren't best of friends, so there's that.
tjh532

Timothy has always seemed like a ' band ' guy to me, although he was kind of the front man in his smaller bands before the Eagles (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe the Board members who have seen him solo could speak to whether or not he was comfortable with being out front.
Then again, if it made him uncomfortable with it, he wouldn't have made any solo albums.

I was lucky enough to see him solo twice. I think he was a little nervous when the set started and then he seemed to really start to enjoy himself. He told little stories about the songs on Expando. He was very generous to all the others in the band which seemed to be the sweet person he is
When we saw him in Clearwater he was excited that he had his first sold out show. He did a couple songs, looked down at two empty seats and said I wonder where these people are. It was so cute!!!!

I was lucky enough to see Timothy both times he did solo tours. The first time he didn't seem to be totally comfortable, which is perfectly understandable. However, he loosened up as the show went on and was very charming and entertaining. On the secolnd tour, he seem a lot more relaxed and talkative. It seemed like most of the butterflies were gone. I never thought I would get a chance to see Tim solo, much less twice so I do feel very fortunate for the experience.

I have a feeling that the question of 'where and when' is one which will forever remain a mystery.
Irga - I feel your pain. I still can't believe that I was fortunate enough to see Tim when he did his solo show in London.

I'm thinking those are from his show in Chicago...TimothyBFan went to that show...and I think he had that shirt on...

I was at the Chicago show, and I'm fairly confident those videos are from that show. The clothes and setup look the same. Even more convincingly, the date the videos were posted was right after the third show of the tour (Chicago). The first show, which was in LA, was strict about no cameras. That leaves Chicago and the second show, which was in Nashville, as the only two possibilities for those videos. I guess it could have been the Nashville show if he wore the same outfit and the stage was a similar height there, but my money is on Chicago.
Happy memories!

That is a great piece of logical deduction, Soda. :)
Thank you.
Thanks also to Zelda for initially suggesting Chicago, and setting Soda on (almost certainly) the right track.

I have seen a video of Sagebrush Serenade, but I don't think I've ever seen this one, so cute!

This is probably already on here somewhere, but if you haven't been to a HOTE show, this is how Timothy is introduced. I guess it hasn't been taken down because the Eagles didn't write it?

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame videos should go here too, and in the Poco thread. I'm sure one of us will get around to it eventually!
Oh, I'm so sad we didn't get to see THIS in Lucca, Italy, last summer... :sigh:
