Thanks for sharing Funk 50! What a great video. And I had the same question as Tim Fan 222, wondering where this was shot. The video is titled " I Can't Tell You Why live 2014" but it's obviously from a solo gig, and more likely, his last tour. Any of you lucky enough to have seen him on his last tour want to weigh in?

I think maybe the song is in a lower key - they can't sing as high as they used to :hilarious:
I came across this version on YouTube. I don't think I've ever seen one where Rusty is playing acoustic guitar instead of the steel.

Yep - I would have loved to have been there to see them perform Rose of Cimarron - it's by far my favorite POCO song. Even though that version in the lower register doesn't measure up to their '70's version, IMO, it's still awesome.

Rick Nelson wrote the lyrics after he was booed playing Madison Square Garden in the 70s - he had long hair and was playing new songs, and apparently, a lot of his audience was expecting the clean-cut guy from the old TV show to be singing nothing but his hits from the 60s.
I bet Don and Tim could relate to a degree, although they've never had a song booed (as far as I know) and the Eagles are still a top-selling act.

I have always assumed that John Lennon (the 'walrus' as in the Beatles song I Am The Walrus) & Yoko Ono attended this controversial show.
As for Mr Hughes I have only ever thought it was Howard Hughes. He was a recluse so if he did attend a rock concert it makes sense that he would be 'wearing his disguise'. But news flash - according to Wikipedia it's George Harrison!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_Party_%28Rick_Nelson_song%29
The most telling line in the song is 'if memories were all I sang I'd rather drive a truck'. Artists need to move on & create. However the Eagles seem to have adopted the chorus lines; 'you can't please everyone/so you got to please yourself'.

Wikipedia's take on the Old Grey Whistle Show.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Grey_Whistle_Test
From the 'history' section:
"Many viewers assumed the bands were always playing live. However, owing to technical issues during the show's early years, and the need to ensure performances were controlled, the bands often recorded the instrumental tracks the day before. The vocals were then performed live, "99 percent" of the time. However, after 1973, the show changed to an entirely-live paradigm."
I was surprised to read that Bob Harris introduced the show for only six years as he is the person I always associate with the show. (Though I do have to admit that due to work and then other life commitments I didn't see the show every week.)
The opening credits to the show.

I feel I should at least mention Bryan Ferry's version, which is my favourite (runs & hides). I don't know why the song has been covered so often. I'm a Dylan fanatic & although I like it, it is hardly up there with his best work. Perhaps because it's a fairly straightforward lyric, unlike many of Dylan's love songs, that people want to sing it.

FP - You can come out from your hiding place. You are, obviously, entitled to your opinion, but I'm personally not that fond of Bryan Ferry's voice. I think there are certainly some other decent versions of the song - Garth Brooks, Ed Sheeran, Kelly Clarkson, and Adele are a few that come to my mind. However, I believe one reason the song is so popular is because of its pure, simplistic beauty and Timothy's voice embodies all of those emotive qualities so well, which is why his version is so flawless. In addition, I think his arrangement captures the essence of the song perfectly as well. JMHO

Totally agreed!
Interesting "backstory" narration. Plus, it was nice to see some new (to me anyway) pictures of him in the video lol. :smitten:

I’ve never seen this one. It’s a short interview of Timothy by Dick Clark on American Bandstand. Too bad the performance isn’t included. From 1988.

Thanks for the picture and video, Dawn and Delilah. The pictures of Tim receiving his hometown honor are no longer available in the thread for the event - and yep, you can blame Photobucket. :brickwall:
And I don't ever remember seeing the American Bandstand video either - too cute!

I know this isn't new but for those like me who may not have seen it, I thought it might be nice to share once again.
Timothy with the Beach Boys and the great Jimmy Webb singing Caroline, No for the Stars and Stripes album.
As we know, Glenn Frey also covered the song on After Hours.
Both great!
As a side note, so sweet to see Carl Wilson. LOVE AND MISS HIM!!

Yikes!!! Timothy cut off his hair. I like it. LOL I know one of his album covers he had this haircut, but I thought maybe he had his hair in the ponytail. I guess he started to grow it back after this.

OK. I'm figuring out the timeline. Playin' It Cool came out in 1984 and he had that hairstyle during that time. Timothy probably started to play in Jimmy's band by 1985 because I remembered Jimmy saying Last Mango in Paris and that came out in 1985. He was starting to grow his hair back out for the Timothy B album in 1987. So I guess it took him 2 years

Hmmm.....well he toured with Toto in 1982 (?). And he had slightly shorter hair then. (such a hardship going through these pictures lol )
