I was sorting out some old CDs for a yard sale we'll having this weekend and I found one called Common Threads: The Songs of the Eagles. All the songs are sung by various country music artists and the liner notes talk about the evolution of Country/Rock and how the proceeds of the sales from this CD will benefit the Walden Project. Has anyone else heard of this CD? Listened to it? Do we know who wrote the liner notes? It sounds a lot like Don to me, but I dont know and it doesnt say.

Yeah ticky, a lot of us hardcores are very familiar with the Common Threads album. It was one of the most successful albums of the year in 1993. Travis Tritt made a music video of his cover of Take It Easy, and was successful in getting the 5 former Eagles to appear in the video together for the first time since the group disbanded in 1980. The success of this album and the band's "reunion" for this video are widely credited as the main impetus for getting the band back together for the Hell Freezes Over reunion tour. Here are the downloads that Soda has on EaglesOnlineCentral of the TIE video with Tritt ...

I'm not sure who wrote the liner notes - it very well could have been Don. Although you would think if it was Don that it would be noted on the album.

I bought the Common Threads CD as soon as it hit the shelves and have played it so much it's nearly worn out! In addition to all give guys appearing on the Travis Tritt track and in the subsequent video for TIE, Timothy sings background with Vince Gill on ICTYW and Steuart Smith plays electric and acoustic guitars on Trisha Yearwoods's NKIT! While all of the artists did a great job on the covers, I'll still always be partial to the original versions. :applause:

I was familiar with the Travis Tritt video *G* cant miss it! and obviously I was familiar with the CD.. I mean I bought it! Not that I remembered that till I found it today! I thought if Don had written the liner notes, he would have taken credit for it, but who knows. It doesnt have anyone taking credit for it as far as I can see so maybe...?? anyway, it was a fun find.

I doubt Don wrote the liner notes because I think he would be credited if he had - not because he necessarily wanted it for ego purposes, but because it would be a selling point for the CD.

The project was put together and released by Giant Records, a record company run by Irving Azoff. If he'd enlisted Don to write those liner notes, he'd have made sure everyone knew it. ;)

I bought this CD when it came out, long before I was a hardcore Eagles fan. Now that I know how important it is historically as the album that led indirectly to the Eagles reunion, I appreciate that even more than its musicality.

I admit it, I went in to Walmart, in disguisehttp://bestsmileys.com/farmer/1.gif, under the cover of darkness http://bestsmileys.com/peeping/1.gif, even tho it was country http://bestsmileys.com/paranoid/4.gif and bought it!

I have it too, but rarely listen to it. It's just history for me. If I want to listen to Eagles songs, Eagles have to sing them. But that's just me.

I know what you mean Brooke. I started to listen to it but have never made it all the way thru. I should sell it on ebay as "like new". :hilarious:

Willie, I may have to start working on you. Jersey girl, Karen Z, swore she'd never listen to Country music. Then I sent her some CD's. She and I had a blast at a Big and Rich concert last Summer. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/mollycinder/15_1_1251.gif

This is of the Eagley cds that I don't have. I've been wanting to get it for some time now but whenever I think about it i'm no where near a computer or a cd store to find it.

One of my co-workers is a big country music fan and he swears up and down that Clint Blacks version of Desperado is better than the Eagles. The first time he said this to me I nearly gave him a Stevie Smack :steviesmack:! He knows that I'm a hardcore Eagles fan and Desperado is my favorite Eagles song. I argued with him the first time he said that to me but now he just says it to agitate me.

My husband picked up this CD at a used CD store a number of years ago, just as a fluke. It has become one of his favorites. I enjoy it but, it can't compare with the original artists!!!!

This is of the Eagley cds

Eagley- Borderism for something related to Eagles. Or....

Eagley-Borderism for warm fuzzy feeling while thinking of or seeing something related to the Eagles. EX: "While coming out of Shuba's, after seeing Timothy in concert, I felt all Eagley inside."

This could be a thread all by itself! :hilarious:

I'll add another.

Freypolar: Mood swings that alternate between manic or abnormally elevated mood (ie. heightened sense of excitability following viewing of new Frey video footage or seeing previously unposted photo) to severe depression (extreme lowness following attendence of any Eagles or Glenn solo show). Molly - When I first read your post I thought it was hilarious. However, after thinking about it for a moment, I became very sad. I just don't know what's wrong with me - I've just been a mess ever since I got back from amazingly glorious L.A. trip to see Glenn. OMG - surely I'm not Freypolar!!!

Now, as far as Borderisms, I actually thought we did have a thread for them, but I can't find it. This one definitely needs to be added to the list though cause I've got a feeling some of us will using it a lot - it's a classic!!!

I think the Borderisms are mixed in with another thread but I'll be darned if I can remember which one.

I did a search for "Eaglese", LOL. You're right, TBF, this topic certainly needs it's own thread :)!

Ummm.... yes.

I used to say I was 'Freyed' but I don't think that's a Borderism. I sometimes quote the line from the Split Enz song I Got You, which is 'I don't know why sometimes I get Freytened', but that isn't really a Borderism either.

ETA: In the other thread GA used 'Freyed':

Some more Eaglese

My poor innocent hubby hasn't a clue what I really mean when I suggest having a FR(E)Y for breakfast.........(Now that is something I would LOVE to do!!)

Not to mention after a night on the internet when my brain is FREYED!!

I guess you all know MY favourite weekday........ FREYDAY!!
