If you were to spend the rest of your life living within the confines of one specific Eagles song... which song would it be? What would your life be like?

Funk #49 because I could party all night and sleep all day and they might think they knew what I was doing but there sure would be some trouble brewing............:soda:

I had to think about this. If I could only choose one it would be Take It Easy. I would be able to travel wherever I wanted and not 'let the sound of my own wheels drive me crazy'.

I'm going with Take it Easy... because I'm not sure I have ever "skipped" that song. It's still awesome after all these years.

Ok, BB, you started this discussion. What song have you chosen? This inquiring mind wants to know....

Isn't that right, guys?

I am a scorpio in every way possible! I'd take "Out of Control"... if for no other reason than free drinks!

After much thought and deliberation I'd have to pick Take It Easy. My first thought was Peaceful, Easy Feelin' with the original lyrics.

But now I think I'd rather be the girl in the flat bed Ford slowin' down to take a look at Glenn. I'd be a friend of his, never say maybe, and he would climb on in and I'd never let him down, and we'd drive on to Winslow, Arizona and watch sunrises till eternity.

surely somebody is gonna pick the greeks don't want no freaks????

if Danny Devito was on this board would he pick "King of Hollywood" (too bad time has marched on or he would have been an awesome Irv Azoff in the biopic)

Where are our post apocalyptic Borderers? a little In the City????

Surely this site has some kids wearing all black and died black hair who can pick "most of us are sad", right?

which reminds me of a joke--> Did you hear that the Goth Kids invented a new kind of grass? it cuts itself!

Hello? Hello? Hey, I'll be here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress... oh and try the pepper steak... it is, well, memorable!:blueblob:

Mine's easy - Last Good Time In Town

And I dream I'm on vacation, cause I like the way that sounds
It's the perfect occupation for me.
I don't mind being by myself if there's no one else around
It's the last good time in town.

JK-- I thought at first I would say Life In The Fast Lane but that didn't sound like a good idea--it would probably get old real fast.

So I'm going with Take It To The Limit. It seems like a "leave me alone" kinda song and I feel that way with real life and the people I have to deal with often anymore!

I'm gonna give it a shot, bender since you have given me permission to break the rules ...

1. Take It Easy
2. Peaceful Easy Feeling
3. Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise
4. Already Gone
5. My Man
6. Take It To the Limit
7. Hotel California
8. New Kid In Town
9. The Long Run
10. I Can't Tell You Why
11. Heartache Tonight
12. Seven Bridge Road
13. Life's Been Good (it's Eagles to me)
14. How Long
15. Waiting In the Weeds

Sorry, but I couldn't even keep it to ten songs. I had to make sure each Eagle was represented. Since Felder's lone lead vocal is Vision, and I can definitely leave that one out, his contribution is Hotel California. I even struggled to keep the list to these. I could easily double it!

It's hard to say because most of these songs are designed to catch a moment, and "inhabiting" one of them keeps you in that moment forever. I guess if I were to be "stuck in a moment" as U2 put it, I'd want to be stuck in "Peaceful Easy Feeling," being with an attractive guy in the desert with a million stars all around. And hopefully a blanket underneath us so we don't get sand stuck in inconvenient places.

the sand/beach/desert thing is not so bad.

but, it also reminds me of a joke. Two country kids decide to get married and so they jump in his truck and drive a few counties over and finally find a JP to wed them.... it is 2 am before they are finally alone and failing to find a motel with a vacancy or that is open that late, they finally decide to sleep in an old cemetary.

The grass is damp so, they find a raised, flat grave marker to bed down on. Within a few moments the young lovebirds are deep in the throes of passion, so happy to be wed, so happy to be together even if it happens to be in humble circumstances.

The next morning as the sun began to wake, the couple stirred.. "we better get out of here before folks show up," said our young lothario. "my back is really hurting," his young bride moaned.

"Oh baby, I'll take you to the doctor" and they hurried off to the doctors office. The doctor began his examination asking where it hurt etc... finally, he said, "young lady, when were you born?" "Why I was born in 1992 sir," she proclaimed. The doctor looked puzzled and replied, "Well, that can't be right."

The young bride responded, "why would you say that?"
"Well," the doctor replied, "It says right here on your back that you were born in 1892 and died in 1978."

badom bom.

Thank you, thank you very much.

You got that right, most of the songs are faithless women, ramblin' men, broken hearts, cheating, driving, desolation, loneliness, darkness.

Hey! Thanks for adding driving, desolation, lonliness and darkness? Although I would have added ruthlessness, violence, rampant, wanton sexuality and death <G>. And remember, I'm traveling BETWEEN the two guys so I figured that was a GOOD option, know what I mean, basically your 'birds of a feather' or menage a trio?

Sounds like you've got the kiva on 10 at the pueblo there!

Randy can go up high and Bernie likes to work down low!

The wind outside is cold
Restless feeling in my soul
Tempting me to get away
But there's no place a man can go
God, will you lead me where I roam?
Help me not to let my feelings show

This is true. I've thought about this so many times. The Eagles rarely sang a fun song about love. They were usually breaking up. Maybe that's how it always was with them since they had so many women! They weren't really in to the long-term relationships! Surely they had them though? :headscratch:

Freypower

There are a couple of 'long term relationship' songs on LROOE - Centre Of The Universe and It's Your World Now. I also consider No More Cloudy Days to be about the beginning of a relationship that will hopefully last.

Great song. (Mike Campbell had the music all together and took it to Tom Petty for the heartbreakers and TP passed.... gotta love that)

My take on the song (maybe totally wrong) is the relationship is very recently broken... not a long past relationship, but one that still has all the passion (you know where you call and have nothing to say, drive by the house, can't sleep, can't eat period...)

He is still very much in love with her and she has decided to move on, but he is pretty sure that her flings will not bring her the fulfillment their relationship did... that she is having a 'summer thing' rather than a complete break.

But, the breakup was in the past though very recent... so, that could be 'in the past' or in the present... to me, it seems too recent to be the wanderlust of relationships past.

We've probably all had heartache... when it is recent... it is the heart pounding panic of the beat of the song... when the loss is over a long period of time.. it is paced more like hollywood waltz or the last resort...

Your comments are really interesting, bender. It's funny how things like our life experiences cause us to process things so differently. I don't get the sense of any time in the lyrics of The Boys of Summer. I never really thought about the song in terms of how long ago the relationship took place. And then, after I read your comments and thought about it in those terms, I came up with the opposite interpretation. It seems to me that it may have been a while since they split, but he can't move on even after all this time. Obviously, no right or wrong here - but, I thought it was funny how different my interpretation was from yours.

As far as Tom Petty turning the song down, I had heard that before. No disrepect to Tom, but all I can say is :yay: :yay: :yay: for us. I can't imagine that anyone could have done that song even close to as well as Don did it. JMHO

that is what is great about art. it has its context and its meaning and then it has what we bring to it...

(and why I put the whole part about I could be and probably am wrong)....

You are so right about personal experience.. For me, I had two really tough romantic things happen to me (and a bunch of smaller disappointments) but during a specifically tragic situation for me... I remember that song playing late into the night when I would drive and think... and so that coupled with re-looking at the lyrics today... I come to my interpretation...

I just got home from playing tonight and I was reminded of how cool it is to be in a dark car with the glow of the stereo... and a song playing loud in the darkness....

I like that the song has that driving beat rather than being just slow...

Check out "Venetian Blue" by Shawn Colvin... that song haunts me... when I need to connect to old things, old memories, things I need to reach back to to remind of who I am and how it all came to be... I can listen to that and it brings me back.... like a time machine... I don't know why, but it washes over me and I'm transported...

Sometimes I can almost see the snow on my old truck back then.. in Virginia and Kentucky... and the lights and the stopped time moments...

it is the magic of music for me.

I think it would be interesting to hear TP sing it, but remember Campbell only wrote the music, the words are all Henley, although I think he had Petty in mind as he wrote the melody and put the words together "after the boys of summer are gooone." is classic Petty style.

The other interesting part is knowing that Stevie had begged the Heartbreakers to take her in even while FM was the biggest band in the world... and BOS was after the Stevie/Don thing... I've wondered if besides getting to have the 'american keith richards' make a record with you, if Don wasn't poking Stevie in the eye by making a 'better record' than the stuff she did with Tom and Mike.

I'm hoping the two guys got together, had some fun and made a great record. A good friend of mine was one of Don's guitar players back then and said that Don was actually really really great to work for.
