Today was Zoe's final day of physical therapy and whirlpool treatments on her surgically repaired knee! And she's walking on all 4 legs again!! Yes!!!

No more driving the 40 minute long drive into Eden (the name of the town where the vet is located) and of course, that means no more driving that
"long road out of Eden". ;)

Great to hear that Zoe has recover so good!

You realize that you and Zoe have basically the same knee problems? I could tell from what Desiree wrote about her surgery, and that is what Labs (among other breeds) are prone to.

She belongs to my sister, but I was allowed to select the name, actually I wanted a male so that I can called it Glenn, Don, Joe or Tim :) but that did not want my sister! I do not know why!

Sadie looks like she could swallow Sophie in one gulp!

those two are rescue dogs... Sadie had been beaten and left for dead... she'd been adopted 7 times and returned as 'not able to socialize'...

the first time I met her, she bit me...

she's great now... she just needed training and love and attention... the 'fear' of being beaten never leaves people or animals that have been beaten, but we've trained around it and she is the sweetest 'middle child' dog ever now...

a tremendous watch dog too and super smart.

Sophie was found in a cardboard box, a puppy not fully weaned, covered in fleas behind a house that was abandoned and being used for drug activities.

It took two days of baths to get the fleas off of her.... they are both loyal and happy girls and watching them spar is pretty hilarious... sadie has to lay down to let soph attack...

Adorable pets! That pumpkin photo is precious.

My cat was a bit of a cast off, too. He was sickly with ear mites and an infected eye that looked pretty bad. Out of an entire litter he was the only pet that my friend couldn't give away (she was a "foster parent" for the humane society but couldn't take care of the pets permanently). There was nothing really wrong with him though... all his problems were easily fixed by medication, and he was fine within a couple months!

I just need to add a big THANK YOU to everyone here who has rescue animals!! :applause::applause::applause::applause::applause: :applause::applause::applause::applause: Good for all of you!!! We need millions more people out there just like you willing to take an abused, mistreated or unadoptable animal and give them the extra love and care they need. I've only owned 1 animal my whole life that wasn't a shelter/rescue animal. They've all made the greatest pets.

My cat, Beyonce, came from a shelter. There are several pics of her here and since she hasn't changed much and also hasn't done anything earthshattering, I won't bore you with another! She had been adopted for a year and returned and they said she wasn't "sociable". Adult cats do prefer to just sleep most of the time. At least that's been my experience with them and I've had umpteen cats over my lifetime. She's always been perfect for me!

Koala, I agree, he is adorable! I love Jack Russells, but they can be a handful! Good luck to your sister with him!
Yes, I have already ascertained this, lol!
Now, however, he does not live any more with my sister, but with me.

Reason:Now it gets a little bit complicated.
Actually, Lucky was bought from her father-in-law, however, he did not manage with him. Then my sister has got him to herself, but they and her friend work both a lot and do not have therefore really time for a dog and also no garden, where he can simply play sometimes or rave. And here with me, one always is at home (I live in the same house as our parents)and he can run in the garden freely. If we think the best solution is for Lucky that he stays with us, moreover, he already has a buddy, here, namely Charly, the dog of our neighbours!

It's kind of hard for me to post in this thread as I just had to put down my best friend last month due to cancer. He was an 8 year old Beagle and it tore me apart and it was and still is very rough for me. I told myself I'd never get another because it's just too hard, but that changed a bit.

Here is Gibson (named after my favorite guitar company):

http://i54.tinypic.com/160bf5f.jpg

I saw an ad online for him and I've always liked Boxers and so I decided to go meet him and I liked him right away. He is a 4 month old purebred puppy. Very ornery (and I do mean very!) but very loving and playful and we're great friends. He's already spoiled and is starting to try to train me! :hilarious:

I'm still having a really hard time over Shiloh (my beagle) as it was unexpected for it to turn out the way it did. He had been sick though for a very long time no one including the vet could figure out why so he went to the University of Illinois Vet School and they did a bunch of tests and found out it was metastatic cancer and if I were to put him through chemo it'd only prolong his life for a couple more months and I couldn't put him through that for only that short of time so I had to have him put down. It tore me apart. He was my best friend and had been since I got him when I adopted him from the pound back in 2004. I haven't been able to look at pictures yet so I don't have anything to post of him but he was a tri-color Beagle. I miss him.

Hi Austin

Sorry to hear about Shiloh, it's a heartbreaking decision to have to make - but unfortunately one that goes hand in hand with keeping pets, you can only do what you think is best for them! :-(

On a happier note Gibson is gorgeous and i'm sure you'll have many happy years with him! :-D

Austin, your statement about never getting another dog sounds like a familiar one to me also. I have said that every time I lose one of my best friends. I never forget them but can't live without animals (5 currently). So I turn around and adopt a new one (or 2 or...).

Sorry about your loss but am loving the face on your new buddy!!! Adorable! Keep us posted with new pics and updates.

Here's one I snapped last night. Ringo's favorite spot in the evening when I finally settle down on the couch is right behind my head on the back of the sofa. I just thought this was cute the way he had his head resting on his paw. Then again, I'm a bit partial.

Austin, you're still young and Shiloh was probably the first pet you've ever had to put down as an adult, but as hard as it is you should continue to have a pet. Sounds like you've already learned this because you got Gibson (great name!) It just goes hand in hand that if you're going to have pets, then you will probably outlive many of them. But it's our job as pet owners to give animals a home, and that means continuing to adopt after we lose them. When you're ready to look at the pictures of Shiloh, look at them with joy, not with sadness. Remember the great life he had with you and how much fun he brought to your life.

Austin, your beagle is precious!

I understand all to well about Shiloh. I had to put down my pet of 20 years - a cat I had gotten when I was 9 and had grown up with - when he had renal failure. It's still difficult for me to think of that time so I try not to, and at first I didn't want any new cat ever. But after a month I met my current cat, Milton, courtesy of a friend - and I knew that helping a kitten find a loving home would be a tribute to my happiness with my first cat Oreo. Milton is quite a different personality than Oreo but I love him!

Zeus is a mighty hunter....he never stops hunting for food and a proper place to sleep. He guards me closely when I'm eating, making sure that the floor around the microwave and table stays free of accidental spills.

Sounds like what Shiloh would do. He loved his food and would eat all the time, and in the end when he got sick he stopped eating and that wasn't like him at all. His nose never stopped smelling for food. If you opened a bag of potato chips somewhere in the house out of his sight and were completely silent he would track you down just by his nose.

Already one of the most spoiled of her kind, a possible diagnosis of cancer has her reaching levels of spoildom that have previously been unknown...

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1229/5143286365_3d0d95b038.jpg

Last night I was eating dinner while seated on the floor at my coffee table so I could watch tv. Upset she had not received anything, Tess kept bumping my elbow. I told her to stop it, she laid down while making her "grumble" to show she's not happy. Not a growl, but a vocalization she makes in her throat when she's mad at her stupid human. I looked at her and said "Did you growl at me?" She got up, went to the window and growled, then looked back at me, like "See? I'm growling at something outside." Then came back and laid down. I cracked up and of course she got a bite. I'm too easy....

She's part Aussie cow dog and something else more stubborn, but she is a most excellent companion. Loyal and trustworthy, since we both have issues, this works out for both fo us!
She's a rescued dog, I've had her for 2 1/2 yrs, her exact age is unknown. That, plus the fact that she had an expensive knee repair last spring, Plus my lingering unemployment makes more expensive surgery right now unlikely/unwise? We're in wait/see mode, my vet tests her every couple months, right now it's slow growing...dunno what really to do.

Deb, I'm sorry to hear Tess might have cancer. I hope she gets well without the need for expensive surgery. That is such a difficult decision. Some vets have payment plans, but in some cases, a person just can't afford it. That happened to my friend - her cat would have required a surgery that cost thousands of dollars - it broke her heart, but she had to put the cat down.

I had a great dog like that, funny but loyal. He was my best friend, I miss him so much. He was my companion. I had to have him put down in September from cancer. He was a Beagle I got from the pound. He was the best dog I ever met. I have a new dog now, a boxer, he doesn't do the lap sitting thing, he's more interested in everything else but me. :( I miss Shiloh so much. It was so unexpected as he was healthy, well cared for, and loved dearly. He was about 7yrs old. Thanksgiving was tough as I fed him that day a bunch of food. Christmas is gonna be awful because his stocking is in with my others and it's gonna kill me to put it away and not fill it with toys. I miss Shiloh so much. He was my biggest supporter and got me through lots of bad times. I'm just lost.

Sorry about all you and your pets medical problems OGG. Try to stay positive, problems will be resolved eventually and all will be as it will be. Remember, the man said sometimes life is an illusion and comes at ya Pow! Right between the Eyes.
My Tess-ter is also dealing with cancer issues. It isn't fair and it does hurt. I've also lost a few canine loves, and it doesn't really get any easier. You can't compare your new dog to the old really, but if you give it time and have some patience, you'll forge another bond and have some great times with the new dog, too. Their short lives are unfortunate part of dog ownership, but the great parts of ownership make it worth it, to me anyway.
I also have eye issues that have plagued me through life. Causing pain, surgeries and what I figure to be a unique outlook on life, even if it is one-eyed. Stay strong buddy, this too shall pass.

The Tess-ter says "I was once the new dog, now they love me just the same 'cause I'm so damn cute".

If you believe in any type of relaxation methods, sitting in a quiet, dark room, relaxing as much as possible and concentrate only on breathing helps me out. If not, crank some Joe and your amp and have at it.
Take care, if things get too crazy, make sure you contact your physician.

Most of you remember Rufus---the dog the world, and a lot of you guys also, helped to save along with us (thank you once again Nancy!)? Well here's a pic I just took tonight. He does love his Daddy (as he should since Dad's the one that brought him home off the RR tracks). This is a nightly ritual when Dad finally settles into his chair for the evening. As you can see, he's gained a bit a weight :hilarious: (40 lbs since his first trip to the vet when we found out about the heartworm). He still thinks he's a lap dog even at 80 lbs.

Awww I don't know Rufus' story....but sounds like he had a lucky escape!

He's a gorgeous boy!!

I know--Ringo and Buddy could be twins!

And you're just being nice to Rufus, despite the fact that he tries to maul you every time you & your hubby walk into the house!

My poor vertically challenged puppy, Pickles, needs stilts or someone to go out and shovel him a path. Moment after I took this, Rufus, who you can see running in the background, came running by him and flipped him right over. :hilarious: Short people get no respect!

Aw, poor Beyonce! Santa didn't leave her anything?

Koala, Lucky is a sweetie!

Tomorrow my cats Sam & Katie have to go for surgery. Sam has a regrowth of one of his claws (he was declawed 10 yrs ago) which he keeps biting & making bleed, so that has to be removed. Katie has a growth inside her mouth to be removed. I'm praying that it isn't cancerous. I worry about my babies.

No, she is too lazy to do much more than sniff at unusual things laying around! She might bat at something once or twice, then she's bored and pooped. She did actually try to crawl into an empty gift bag last night when I was putting things away. But it only lasted for a minute!

I should have just saved myself some money and just gave her all the bags to play with instead of cat toys. She will entertain herself for quite awhile playing with a paper or plastic bag. One day I picked up the "empty" laundry bag from the laundry room floor and swung it over my shoulder. There was a cat in that bag.
