LTL found this item (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gregrule/4444855970/) - Bill Armstrong has passed away.

He was a great trumpet player and an asset to the band. He will be missed.

RIP, Bill.

How very sad. That answers my question in the Hollywood Bowl thread.

You would have thought the band could have paid tribute on their official site. :-(

Thanks for that, TG. Cancer claims another victim. How tragic.

TG, how nice of you to send the email and find out what happened. From that response, it appeared as if Bill was a great guy that touched many.

Thank you for sharing with us. How sad for Bill and his family and friends.

tg - thanks from me too for sending that email. I was actually going to do the same thing, but haven't had the time, so I'm grateful that you thought about it. Did the gentleman that responded give his name?

Anyway, I'm also surprised the band didn't have something about this on their official site or maybe they did and we just missed it. Wonder if they will ever mention this at one of their shows?

Anyway, it is very sad to learn about this, indeed.

RIP, Bill Armstrong.

I was so sorry to hear about Bill's passing. I definitely remember seeing him at the Eagles concerts I attended over the past couple years. May he rest in peace.

I'm confused. Isn't this Bill Armstrong in this picture that Steph just posted from the April 24 Las Vegas show?

But he wasn't at the April 20 Hollywood Bowl show? When did he die?

Here are the Hollywood Bowl band intros:

That's Al Garth on the end.

Armstrong died in March, on St. Patrick's Day.

Soda, are you saying that this picture that you posted at the beginning of this thread (Bill Armstrong?) and the picture that Steph posted are not the same people?

No, though they're dressed the same (as these players do)! If you're talking about the guy on the end, Al Garth, his face is a bit fuller and his features are less sharp.

Well, if he is reading this thread, I'd like to thank him for his information. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't even know why Bill wasn't there. For those of us who've enjoyed Bill's performances with the Eagles live - be it on Farewell 1, in person, or both - it's fitting we pay tribute.

You can see his face well during his trumpet solo at the beginning of Hotel California in Farewell 1:

Here's some footage from his last Eagles show in Lisbon, although you can't see his face.

Here's a photo of the whole horn section as seen in Farewell 1. Left to right: Al Garth, Chris Mostert, Bill Armstrong, Greg Smith.

I don't have any clear photos of the new guy, Les Lovitt.

And here's one just of Bill, doin' his thing:

I apologize for my confusion. I always thought the person who's picture Soda posted at the beginning of this thread was Al Garth. Anyway, if it was my confusion that caused the second email to TG, then I'm grateful. At least we got some more information.

Apparently I missed a whole bunch in this thread over the weekend. In missing the emails that had been posted, did I miss the date he passed away?
