I met Trisha at her cookbook signing last Saturday and she was the nicest, sweetest lady. And funny! I was planning to ask her about singing with Don but never got around to it. We talked everything from hot flashes and what alleviates it, to mosquitos, Georgia’s giant gnats, to Garth’s first trip with her to Georgia and his hiking plans. After reading this article, I'm disappointed that I forgot to ask about Don. :brickwall:

Thanks for the link VA!

Cool that Trisha considers Don to be one of her idols. I can't wait to hear her singing on the album! :)

HB, Georgia's giant gnats?. I do believe that that is an understatement! I'm sure that Trisha and I could spend all day talking about them. No summer is complete without swallowing one or having one go up your nose. (Very annoying)

I would prefer his hair gray, but it's not like Trumps!! Don's is going in the right direction and doesn't look like it might actually be a chipmunk or something. I actually think his hair looks fine, it would just be better if it matched his goatee.

AlreadyGone95
07-15-2015, 07:25 PM
What makes me think that his hair looks like Trump's is that sort of hump to it. The color's different than I've seen (it looks almost reddish).

jms18222
07-15-2015, 09:04 PM
It's the color, almost reddish blonde which we clearly know he was neither red or blonde & then the white beard. He looked amazing with the salt & pepper coloring but...sigh, I wish someone would just tell him to put down the Just For Men box in the trash.
Trust me come Friday night he could come out in a long blonde wig & Speedo and it would be fine by me.

Amused To Death is a great Roger Waters album. Hernley's unmistakeable harmonies are on Watching TV.

To quote the Wikipedia "The song "Watching TV" (a duet with Don Henley) explores the influence of mass media on the Chinese protests for democracy in Tiananmen Square."

How generous of Don to step up and fund the Water Tower study for Linden.

And as far as Don's traveling hotel bed, I guess it was worth it if it helped his bad back. Lucky for his back that he wasn't the one that had to put it up and tear it down night after night!

Felder can't be held responsible for everything, jms, 'though I know he is creative in more fields than music! He seems to have a vivid imagination. :hilarious:

....as for the bed, speaking as someone who has chronic neck problems, I have to take my own pillows with me whenever I go. Granted, they're easier to manage than a WHOLE bed, but I do understand where Don's coming from. You'd try anything to ease the pain and if there are people there to carry the bed for you, well why not if it helps you sleep???

I took a few photos of the water tower when Soda and I were there last December. It is definitely very visible in "downtown" Linden. :) I love hearing how Don still supports his hometown. What a sweetheart, so generous!
And I am happy to hear about the bed & breakfast. Sounds like another trip needs to be planned when the Henley room is finished. I would love to go in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming.

I'm thinking about visiting Linden in October when I go on vacation. I'm taking an out of the way trip to Linden and then head to Missouri. Linden is only 4 and a half hours away from me. Heading to Linden and going another way will add 3 hours to my drive time.

I love the fact that Don loves his hometown and helps out with different things. A lot of stars forget where they come out. When they make it big, they would care less about their hometown.

I was going to visit Dairy Queen anyway. I forgot what's in Dairy Queen. It was just a line from one of his songs right?

I remember reading an interview with Don and he talks about the Dairy Queen and hanging out there with his friends. They would sit on their cars in the parking lot and watch the trucks whiz by wondering where they were going. The Dairy Queen is at the intersection of Hwy 59 and I believe Kildare Rd. I remember Kildare because I loved the tv character Dr. Kildare. And I believe that is the road where Don's high school is located.

Thanks HB. I was goign to see Don's high school, Dairy Queen, the courthouse, Music City Theatre and maybe his grandparents house.

I'm not going to stay too long. I had to be in Missouri before 8:00pm because I have tickets to a show that night. I'm leaving Mississippi my usual, 5:00am and should be in Linden around 9:30am.

Top 10 Mike Campbell Songs, according to Ultimate Classic Rock;

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/mike-campbell-songs/

I'm surprised he and Henley haven't worked together more. A dozen more like The Boys Of Summer and The Heart Of The Matter and it would rival the Henley Frey partnership!

Cool list! I've always felt that Mike Campbell is underrated and overshadowed by Tom Petty. (No offense to Tom, I love his music). Personally, #8, Running Down a Dream is my favorite. It's another one of those songs that I've loved since before I was double digits in age. All of the songs on the list are great!

I agree with that Don and Mike would've probably written some more amazing songs had they worked together more.

09-08-2015, 10:41 PM
That's a pretty impressive Top 10 list alright! However, it should not come as a shock when I say that, while I really like the song Refugee, there is no way that it's a better song than The Boys of Summer, IMHO!

I think this is new news.

Don's listed on a huge bill, to appear at the Americana Awards, September 16 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, hosted by Jim Lauderdale.

With the names listed on the Roster, this must be a TV show. It's going to be a marathon event or blink and you miss 'em show.

Only six awards categories is good news though.

I agree. All DonF do in interviews is talked bad about Don and Glenn. IMO. Don and Glenn have been really been quiet about this while DonF is always brings it up in interviews because the journalists always bring it up and never have anything to ask other than the firing.

I wonder why that journalist bought that up in the interview with Don.

Because it's a relevant topic, just as anything about the Eagles is relevant. Why not bring it up? As a journalist presumably he would be aware of how much Felder has talked about all this & he would have wanted Henley's take on it.

I tend to agree - it's a fair topic to ask about as long as the interviewer wasn't told in advance that it was off limits. I always figure that if there are specific questions that the interviewee doesn't want to discuss, then that is sorted out before the interview takes place. Since Don didn't decline to answer the question, I assume he was okay with it.

A great interview. Some great stories. One of my favorites is about his new guitar player, Chris Holt. I like the fact that it all started with Don hiring him to Will how to play the guitar. The next thing you know, he was playing on the track of That Old Flame to now in his touring band. I bet he never thought he was play for Don.

I agree and disagree with Don on that. Yes, there's so much more music available online, and a chunk of it, I won't like. However, there are music sites that give you recommendations based on what you like, last fm and Rate Your Music for examples. You scrobble(their term) music on last fm (Spotify, Itunes, Last fm itself etc) It creates a library of your scrobbled tracks, and gives you recs based on the genres you listen to. (Country, blues rock, thrash metal etc). With, Rate Your Music(RYM), you rate the music you listen to, from 0.5 stars (horrible) to 5.0 stars (top shelf). Like last fm, RYM gives you recs based on your ratings. I love both sites, and use them several times a week. (Think I've said this before)

I personally like looking for "new" music online. (New meaning new to me). I've discovered many amazing artists because of that, and I really haven't found any "bad" music. Radio nowadays doesn't cut it. Most of the songs I hear on the stations I listen to are ones that I've known for awhile. Most magazines are available to read online. Apart from word of mouth, which still works, using the Internet to find new music is the only platform that is worthwhile, imo.

Here's an article from the Tennesseean. Some of the special guest could be at the Nashville show which I'm not surprise.

“I imagine that several of the folks who played and sang on the album will be in attendance, so that will add a little extra pressure, as well. But, all things considered, we are looking forward to playing the new material in the town where most of it was recorded (and some of it written).”

I did some research on who could be there. Everybody (mostly everybody who had a duet with Don) has a show on the 17th, but the only person who can't make it is Vince Gill. He'll be in Indiana on the 18th.

So Martina, Merle, Trisha, Jamey, and Miranda could be there that night. I couldn't find any dates for Dolly. Now the question is who will show up.

This is a terrific article - very well written and no sensationalism! Not a lot new learned apart from the fact that Don likes to cook - is there anything this man can't do???:heart::heart:

I was also reading an article from the December issue (I know, it's not even November!) of Uncutand Don mentions that between 1978 and 2008 he donated $680,000 dollars to the Democratic party but never again. I also read somewhere else that he's not even going to support Hilary Clinton which is strange given the fact he's such good friends with Bill. But he reckons she's got too much baggage. Anyway, I thought all the info made his lyrics in No, thank you all the more pertinent...

Don threw a guy out for yelling "Don Felder" when introducing Steuart Smith....

I don't support the guy yelling it out. I'd choose a more subtle passive-aggressive approach if I were him - maybe wear a Felder tshirt in the front row/orchestra pit. ;) But really, I agree with his thoughts but he should have known Henley wouldn't have any of it. I would NOT want to be embarrased, no way I'd do that. Perhaps he doesn't know how the guys are about that stuff.

ETA: I have nothing against Steuart Smith and I think it was poor timing to yell it out. Stu is a fine player, even though a lot of us miss Felder. This guy just did it the wrong way at the wrong time.

AlreadyGone95

I can't say I blame Don, especially since the guy was not only disrupting the show, but also being incredibly rude to Steuart. It's kind of like those annoying people who have too much to drink. There's nothing wrong with liking Don F over Steuart, but don't show it in an obnoxious way. Since Don offered the guy a refund(in money and karma), I think it's ok.

I wonder if Glenn has heard about his "birthday gift".

ETA: This was a Henley solo show. Don Felder never played guitar in Don's solo band. Don had no Eagles songs in the set list and hasn't for the entire tour, so how could the guy justify shouting and carrying on about Felder? :headscratch: At an Eagles show or if Don had included some songs that Don F had played on, I could slightly understand point he had to make more. Just a person trying to get his 15 minutes of fame. Don's still probably laughing all the way to bank though ;).

Poor Steuart. I think he will never ever get out of the shadows of Don F. This will follow him for the rest of his life as long as he in either Don's band or the Eagles. I like Steuart and he's a great guitar player. I feel bad for him. He had to be embarrass and hurt that somebody would do that. Its disrespectful to Steuart and definitely Don when you're yelling out a name that sued you for many years and disrupting his show.

I bet that guy wouldn't say that if he was at an Eagles concert. Oh wait. He probably would. There's bad blood with Don F and that's the one thing you don't ever want to yell out at either Don's or Glenn's show.

After a while, Don can't say his three teenage children are at home. He will only have 2. To think about it. When is the age when you're not a teenager anymore.

I think Don will be grandpa soon. Then Don will probably be the first grandparent of the "current" Eagles. Not talking about the former members, but the current members.

He really has been very open about his family especially his kids. I was very shocked. I guess they're at the age where he can talk a little bit more about them, but still protect his privacy. I just loved the fact that Annabel toured with her father and then Will playing drums on No, Thank You. I think we might would had seen his children doing the Kennedy Honors. I said might. Not saying Don's children and the other guys children would had been there this weekend. But that's another story.

I doubt he would allow his kids to be photographed. He has said numerous times he doesn't allow it as long as they are underaged. I agree with his wanting them to have a normal childhood.
Still can't imagine being 68 with teenagers. I just had a 30 minute conversation with my 30 year old & I don't have a clue what he was talking about but then again he was trying to talk during a DUKE game. He should know better.

I'm excited about the Howard Stern interview. As both have a pretty good idea what to expect of each other, there's no excuse for it to get out of hand. Stern often gets more out of his guests than the typical interviewer and Don is often surprisingly candid. That Don even agreed to it makes me wonder if he's ready to discuss some of the trickier subjects.

I'm remembering that in addition to Joe Walsh and Don Felder, Stern also interviewed "Little Rock Connie" on his show, complete with a Don Henley story.

Ha ha!! That was the first thing that struck me when he mentioned her age - 'not doing her any favours there, Don' but as someone pointed out I guess he felt he had to discriminate between His 'oldest' daughter, Brittany and Annabel.

I'm hoping the Howard Stern interview might be posted here sometime.....please

They will also post the list of nominations on Grammy.com

shunlvswx
12-08-2015, 01:35 PM
Don brought Felder twice, but to talk about Hotel California and RRHOF. He was about Don F and their wasn't an out there question that don would be mad to say something mean about Don F.

Howard bring up does Don love Glenn. Of course Don say as a brother. You will love him or hate him.

Drugs asked a few times. Don tells Howard he didn't go to any program to get off of drugs or alcohol.

Howard was on his best behavior with Don which made me very shocked.

Howard was very respectful of Don & very professional. Great interview!
Don sang, Desperado, Boys of Summer, Cost of Living from new album
Stuart Smith & Will Hollis were with him & rest of band

Asked briefly about Stevie, but he didn't say much & Howard didn't press the issue. Just said very hard for 2 musicians to have a relationship. Also asked if he had a crush on Linda Ronstadt, & he said they kept things professional.

Other tidbits: Colitas comes from his road manager & means "little buds"
Also said Hotel California was their best album.
On tour he does no drinking & talks very little, even on the phone, to save his voice.

Please. I'm going by what I remembered. I was trying to work, listen and type at the same. The interview is probably be up later today. Yesterday's show is up on YouTube.

Don's band was there in the studio.

Don brings up his childhood and how he got started playing drums.

Don told him the story about recording of Desperado and orchestra were playing chess between takes. He didn't like how Desperado came out. Howard wanted Don to sing Desperado the way it should be sung. He sang Desperado. He was a little hoarse, but still good. Don didn't sound bad singing Desperado early in the morning.

Howard would play short clips of Best of My Love, Tequila Sunrise, One Of These Nights and Take It Easy, Dirty Laundry, Hotel California, and Witchy Woman. Don would say something about each song.

Howard say something like did you throw your solo success in Glenn's face. Ha ha I don't need you or something like(I can't remember what he actually said) He didn't do that. Both he and Glenn were popular back then. Don said Glenn came to a few of his concerts I guess in the 80s. He didn't say when.

Don tells the story about Witchy Woman. It was about his a former girlfriend's sister name Patty who was a witch.

Don sings the Storytellers version of The Boys Of Summer.

Don also sang Please Come Home For Christmas, The Cost of Living.

Don brings up he was just nominated for a Grammy yesterday. Don said he was not going to the Grammys. I don't blame him. You're only nominated for one award and there's a chance you won't win. Plus he said the award he was nominated for was not being televised.

Don talks Linda and him playing in her band before they started the Eagles.

Don talks about Stevie after Howard brought her up. He was being funny. I forgot what he said. I remembered something if htey were together. Don would wake up, go downstairs and says, "Baby. I've written a song." or something like that.

Don brings up he didn't want to marry another musician and how it wouldn't work. He brings up Blake and Miranda.

He brings up the story of Dolly's recording When I Stopped Dreaming and making the video.

That's all I can remember. I will post the interview once it pops up on YouTube.

I was surprised that Howard didn't ask anything about the groupies. Don said he stopped doing drugs when he was getting married & going to have kids. Said he just did alcohol & coke. He just stopped on his own. Wanted his kids to be healthy.

Said HOF induction was fine & no animosity with former members of the band.
Little mention about Don Felder, just about Hotel California & about he & Joe working off each other on guitar.
He said he likes to fish & garden & make breakfast for his kids when he's home

A nice, cordial interview. Clearly, parameters were set before the interview but they were able to talk without it becoming awkward. I thought Don stood up for Glenn fairly well and would have said more if he hadn't been interupted. He also proved that he could say "Felder" without saying anything negative. I didn't learn much new, but I'm glad I listened.

Thanks shun and TK for keeping us posted as the interview was taking place. I just finished listening to it and thought it was fantastic. I really enjoyed it and felt Don was pretty candid throughout most of it. I actually thought Howard did a great job of asking provocative questions in a respectful manner and Don did a great job of answering them or deflecting the ones he didn't want to answer. I didn't really feel either of the men took digs at anyone and both came across as fun, but professional.

Re: Cass County only receiving one Grammy nomination, I honestly can't say I'm surprised. I mean no disrespect, but, although I find the album enjoyable, I don't think it measures up to Don's best solo work. After all of the pre-release hype, I was actually expecting more. I get what you're saying here, shun, but there is also a down side to posting the same information in multiple threads. You can end up with a discussion about the same topic spread over multiple threads that can make it difficult to follow or find the information later. Usually what we do if a question comes up in a thread about a certain topic is to redirect the poster by linking to the appropriate thread.

I'd be shocked if Don retired based on his comments he made when promoting Cass County last fall. I would think he would tour some more for Cass County later this year; however, if he waits too long, it may not be promoted as a Cass County tour.

Yes. Don is essentially the sole custodian of the Eagles now. Azoff will help handle the nuts and bolts of the business aspects, of course, but the rest is on Don's shoulders.

However, I do think that he'll still bill a tour as Cass County even if it's as late as a year after the album's release. That's what Glenn did with his After Hours tour in Australia.

Don's birthday present to Glenn. In hindsight, realising that Glenn was possibly in a coma at the time, it goes a long way in showing Don's tremendous respect for his musical brother.

Maybe his worries for Glenn also explains why Don dropped (I Like) Where I Am Now from his set list, halfway through the tour.

I didn't even know he had dropped WIAN. I just re-read the lyrics & though it talks about self-destruction, Don may as well be proud that he is still here. He has nothing to be ashamed of. What happened is not his fault.

Yes, I know that. I thought it might be helpful to post the link to the actual event.

Don's got a contest going on to get two tickets and meet him any show. Its not with chideo, but a website called Charitybuzz. You don't win a free trip. You have to pay your way there.

When you said contest, I thought it was something you could enter and win by luck. Unfortunately for me, this is an auction and you "win" by being the person willing to pay the most. It's up to $3500 as of today. Too rich for my blood.

Don's got a contest going on with prizeo. This is a free trip to see and meet Don. They don't say which show. I guess they pick.

This is like Chideo. You donate to Walden Woods. Whatever amount you donate, you get a prize and your name is put into the drawing.

I might enter. A girl can dream of winning.

A came across a random reference to Don in an interview with Christopher Cross.

It’s nice when you meet people in the business who you’ve revered and you get to be around them as people and watch how they handle some of this stuff and you learn from that too. You learn to be a nice person and you learn to be humble. You learn a lot of that from people like Don Henley and Carl (Wilson).

There are some other good stories in that interview. Who knew Christopher Cross subbed for Ritchie Blackmore at a Deep Purple gig?

Shundra, you have as good as chance as anyone else to win. I encourage you to give yourself the opportunity.

I saw this on Facebook. Don will be playing this new place, Sugarland Venue on January 15th. All Texas fans get ready.

I have no idea where Sugarland, Texas is.

It's the Houston area. I started a thread for it in the pre-conconcert anticipation forum. Thanks for the heads-up!

Here's an article about Don's upcoming show at Rochester Hills, MI. This is the first time Don opens up more on Glenn's death since the BBC interview in February. Most interviews he's done since that February interview, he didn't want to talk about it which was understandable. He probably had to since he was playing in Glenn's hometown.

Thanks for the link. I was touched by what he said about Glenn.

However, I was a little confused by this statement:"I can call out songs spontaneously some nights and we change the set order in the middle of the show.”

Did I miss something? When did this start happening?

In Don's defence, in his Manchester show he did play Sunset Grill, which I noticed he didn't play in his previous show at Glasgow. Don is such a perfectionist though that his idea of 'spontaneous' might be a bit different from everyone else's! My guess is that he might have a fixed list of songs which he always wants to play and others which move into and out of the setlist depending on how he feels that night. Either way, I think it will be interesting to see how much this changes for the rest of his US shows.

Thanks for the link to Don's Cincinnati radio interview, UTW. It's nice to know that Don is having a good time on the road. I guess it helps him cope with the loss of his band and bandmate.

Last night here in the UK on the TV Sky Arts channel, they showed a highlights programme of the Barclaycard BST Festival from earlier this year and they showed Don doing Hotel California and Boys Of Summer in full and in HD!
Would love to see the whole of Don's set again.
