Wow. That interview actually made me cry... and laugh, too.
Thanks for the link, UTW.

Yep, thanks UTW! I'm glad that Don may work on a new album soon. I'm wondering if he'd do mostly original work w/ some covers thrown in. I know he's been mentioning this in interviews for the last few months. I listened to the Okkervil River version of TEOTI b/c it was talked about in the interview. Yeah, I don't want to say that it sucks, but I just didn't like the guy's voice. It's hard to top Don's voice, so there's that.
I like these full Q&A interviews, so we get all the words from the man himself rather than the author trying to add their own spin on things at times.

I really should pay more attention. I missed the seond half and it was only when people were commenting on things that I couldn't remember that I knew to go back to it. Good interview - it seems like Henley is getting over the shock and starting to look forward, which is the way it should be.

It's a really good interview, and I thought it was very interesting what Don said about Deacon. I never even considered the possibility of his standing in for Glenn.

Yep - I loved the interview. I am very excited about the idea of Don doing an R&B album. He seemed really open and reflective in the interview. I know he and the other guys must be doing a lot of reflection these days.
I have said repeatedly that I thought Deacon was the only acceptable alternative as a fill-in for Glenn at anytime in the future. I don't want to take this thread off topic though, so I commented in the Eagles forum.

Great interview, thanks for posting! I felt like Don really went into depth here about his life as well as his music and I really enjoyed the section about his roots and 'You Can't Go Home Again'. I kind of get the sense that he's more comfortable doing a Q&A like this than a more traditional interview, and therefore he feels more able to speak his mind which gives us a better insight into the 'real' Don. I think it takes away any worries about his words being turned into sound bites by journalists looking for an easy story.

Great interview! You can tell he's still pretty upset by Glenn's passing, but yet he didn't rule out completely that him, Timothy, Joe, and possibly Deacon doing something down the road. I can't say I would like that at all, but that's just me. I just can't see the Eagles without Glenn, whether they would call themselves the Eagles or not. I don't know...
Good to hear that Timothy might tour too.

It was a huge surprise to learn that Don was performing Gimme What You Got on his current tour.
Thanks to a link from L&M's Eagles facebook page and and online translator it's pretty obvious:
"I am shocked to see that Donald Trump is even in the race. I am so disappointed that there are enough people in this country who believe or are under the impression that he is qualified to be the US leader. It's scary , because I think the guy is a psychopath. Or at least a sociopath . I met the guy there several years. I even mentioned in one of my songs , long ago , in 1984-1985 , a play called Gimme What You Got . A song about greed. I alluded to it , but no one had noticed at the time. "
I much prefer this, to trotting out a greatest hits set.... up to a point. :)

This is only about Kristin Chenoweth's thoughts and experiences with "The Heart of the Matter." It's a short article, and the 1st part is about when she first heard it and the 2nd part is how it resonated with her after Sandy Hook.
If this belongs in Eagles Mentions in the Press, sorry about that. I thought since it was a short article about someone's experiences w/ a Don solo song that it should go under this thread.

Don will present Clint Black an award at the Lone Star Film Festival next month. The festival is November 10-13. I don't know when Don will be there, but I'm guessing on the 10th because Lone Star Film Festival's website has the reception on the 10th.

I just got this google alert in my email. Don will be one of the performers to honor Tom Petty as MusiCares Person of the Year this coming February. I wonder what's the history between Tom Petty and Don. I know Tom has history with Felder, but I wonder how Don knows Tom.
If you want to go, tickets range between $1,750 to $8,500 and VIP packages for groups of 10 to 36, are priced between $17,500 and $150,000.

You maybe right.
This probably is Don's first time being performer for a honoree. I don't think I read anyway that Don was part of a lineup for another honoree. His 10th year anniversary for his honor is next year.
So that means they will have a portion of the show of people honoring Tom Petty. I think they do a little tribute to honorees during the live show.

Here's an article from last night at the Lone Star Film Festival.
http://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/article114084638.html
The recipient of this year’s Stephen Bruton Award, an honor bestowed on a musician with Texas ties, is country singer Clint Black, who was given the honor by Don Henley. Taking the stage to the strains of the Henley song Dirty Laundry, the former Eagle said of Black that “I admire this man for his dedication to his art and to his craft” as well as his charitable works and dedication to his family.
Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/article114084638.html#storylink=cpy
For his part, Black said Henley “had been such a huge influence on me” and that the song Desperado in particular had “great lyrics, great melody” and was also “instructive” with regard to life and love.

OMG, I have never seen Don's eyes look bluer! Must be the blue plaid shirt! Love! And how hilarious that they could have been the Hawks! First time I've heard that one!
And I think I saw a tear in his eyes when talking about Glenn. I know I had some in mine. I'm sure he'll never get over it. You just have to move on. And Glenn would want him to.

I agree, Brooke. His eyes were soo blue. I just wanted to melt. I really thought Don was going to break down, but he hold back his emotions. I don't know how he does it. I guess they were all surprise when Glenn's health deteriorate so quickly. Like us, they probably thought Glenn will get better, but this time he didn't. His health was probably under control for years until probably last year.
The one about Hawks was new to me too. I think the name Eagles sound much better than the Hawks. I guess we could thank the peyote buttons for that hallucination of an eagle. They would had been the Hawks.

On one note. Don, Don, Don. Why didn't you invited Jewel to be your special guest for your southern dates in January instead of a certain guy. I wouldn't mind listening to Jewel for what. 45 to an hour. I had enough of him when he was the special guest with Joe this past summer.

Thanks, UTW, for the article!
Considering Don's feelings on Trump, I sort of hope that it inspires more music. He criticized Reagan in the TEOTI album, and I think that some songs from LROOE criticized the Iraq War, like the title track. Angry, old liberal Don w/ a dash of cynicism, please!
Note: I don't mean old as in his age. I mean old as in what the old left is (baby boomer values), not the new left of today's youth and their values.

I watched the Don segment on CBS This Morning, and it was really good. He seemed relaxed and easy-going. Gayle King interviewed him (getting a bit familiar with him as she had her arm around his walking through the woods).
The best part for me was when she asked him about each member (thank you, Gayle!).
Bernie: I missed part of this-bummer! But i believe he was complimentary, saying something about Bernie not caring about fame or fortune.
Randy: "very sensitive guy", "very talented" "a farm boy like me", "only guy who could sing that high"
Don F: "incredible guitar player", "one of the best in the business"
Joe: "again, another amazing guitar player", "very funny guy, he brought a lot of good humor", "he was sort of the wild card"
Glenn: "very dynamic individual", "we understood each other"
For me, it was very gratifying to hear his comments about Randy. I've never before read about or heard him ever complimenting Randy. I was also glad to hear him speak positively about Don F, esp since some believe Don F was nothing more than a better-than-average session player. Don H himself said Felder was one of the best. There's supposed to be an extended interview on podcast.

12-08-2016, 11:16 AM
The interview was great!!! :D Gayle King did a great job and loved Charlie Rose and Nora O'Donnell talking about how she got Don to smile which was a good sign. LOL They talked about so much, it was funny and emotional at times, and apparently there is an extended version of the interview that will be going on online, the app, and in the CBS news podcast. I was surprised to that Gayle took time to have Don say what he thought about each member including Bernie, Randy, and Felder. It was really nice though I do think they cut the part about him talking about Timothy which might be in the extended version. That segment lead into Don talking about Glenn and his passing.
They also showed clips of Kings of Leon and Vince Gill performing "Take it Easy" and "PEF" at the Kennedy Center Honors and previewing the show we'll see on CBS the 27th. I'm even more excited to watch it. :D
ETA: Delilah, Don also said Bernie "was a good musician".

Yes, Buffyfan, those clips from the KCH performance were great! I thought Don's expression was a bit stoned-faced when Vince Gill was singing PEF, but of course that was just for a moment or two.
I thought it was a bit sad and surprising when he said he and Glenn were not around each other that much over the past several years, esp. given that they toured quite a bit during that time. Yet he still misses Glenn "just being in the world" or something like that.:-(

I'm actually not surprised him and Glenn weren't around each other much. Don lives in Texas while Glenn was in CA and later in NYC. The other guys were in CA too. They were all scattered around the US. They probably only saw each other on the road.
I think they would all wanted to get away from each other after being on the road for months at a time. A little break from each other. I always loved that story Timothy told about Glenn about to get off the plane. Turns around and tells everybody, "Enjoy your time without me." Enjoy the 10 days away from each other or something like that. I think its good because the tension wouldn't be as bad as it was in the 70s.

They were on the road quite a bit. That's why I was a little surprised that Don would say they weren't around each other much. It reminded me of what Don F said after the band reunited, that they would leave the stage and go their separate ways until the next performance.

I think I remembered reading or hearing somewhere that Don goes back to his hotel room when they are done with the show. He doesn't go out to dinner after the show, he retires for the night. Maybe he did that later on in the years or he's been doing it for years.
I do remembered that Delilah. Some of them probably go to dinner after the show(which would be very late) and some just go back to their hotel.

The part in which Gayle asked about each member was cut out of the podcast. However, it was over 23 minutes long. Nothing new or startling, but interesting none the less.

I don't know...I always thought the longer your hair got the less curly it was. I mean what does he do every morning now, flat iron the curls out! Yea I can just picture Don Henley standing in front of a mirror every day spraying in anti frizz & running a flat iron over & over. He doesn't have enough hair!
If he said it wasn't a perm...okay...I can ride with that.

Was it Gayle who asked about each band members. Because if she did. IMO. Its Gayle's fault for not mentioning Timothy. How the heck can you forget a member who's been there since the Long Run era and who was also honored alongside Don, Joe and Glenn. I really don't get that. I hope they just ran out of time and hoping they really didn't forget Timothy. I would had loved to hear what he said about Timothy.
I haven't seen the interview from this morning, but I did see the extended interview. I have to wait until I get home to watch it because I still haven't seen on the CBS This Morning website. They only have a transcript on the interview.

Oh I didn't see the transcript, only the interview on "podcast" - I don't know what that means, i.e. it is audio only.
Someone here said that Timothy is mentioned in the extended version of the interview. I listened to the 24-minute version and Tim was not mentioned. It also didn't have the "what do you think of each Eagle" part, which was what I wanted to hear.
For the record, Mr. Henley says he didn't perm his hair.

Its only audio.
I listened to the extended version. I don't remembered hearing Timothy's name. Don was mostly talking about his childhood, a little on HC etc. I have to re-listen to it when I get home from work since I was listening to it at work and I couldn't turn the volume up too high without disturbing my co-workers, but I thought the extended interview was great.
I just watched the interview this morning YouTube(not a good version since somebody recorded it on their phone from the screen). They did say something about Timothy being honored for the KCH but not during the what you think of these members. I just can't believe Gayle left Timothy out.

That's nice, thank you. Maybe they'll release the video in a day or two? Maybe?
An excerpt from the article:
King asked Henley what comes to mind when he thinks about the Eagles members, beginning with guitarist Bernie Leadon.
“Really great. Really great musicianship. A guy who did not like fame at all,” Henley said.
“Randy Meisner?” King asked.
“Very sensitive guy, very talented, a farm boy like me,” Henley said. “He was the only guy who could sing that high.”
“Don Felder?” King asked.
“Incredible guitar player, yeah,” Henley said. “One of the best in the business.”
And Joe Walsh, Henley said, was also an amazing guitar player.
“And a very funny guy. You know, he bought a lot of good humor and he was sort of the wild card,” Henley said.
King saved Glenn Frey for last, who died in January.
“What you would have to say about him?” King asked.
“He was a very dynamic individual. He came up like I did, playing in rock and roll bands starting in high school,” Henley said. “We understood each other. We both loved cars. He had an old ‘55 Chevy named Gladys that we used to ride around in. And we were just – we were a good fit, you know. I had strengths that made up for his weaknesses, and he had strengths that made up for my weaknesses.”

Here's the article about last night's event.
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-et-ms-linda-ronstadt-tribute-parkinson-20161212-story.html
It was evident in the show’s lineup, which featured Eagles founding member and songwriter Don Henley as well as fellow singer-songwriters Jackson Browne and J.D. Souther, singer Aaron Neville, multi-instrumentalist David Lindley and latter-day disciples such as country singer-songwriter Brandy Clark, rocker Grace Potter, Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno, L.A. indie-rock band Dawes and Southern California roots-music champions fiddler-singer Sara and guitarist-singer Sean Watkins.
Ronstadt’s ear for first-rate material was apparent Sunday in the renditions of signature songs from her wide-ranging repertoire. They spanned the aching beauty of the song Henley identified as his first collaboration with his late songwriting partner Glenn Frey, “Desperado,” as well as Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s haunting “Heart Like a Wheel.”
As was often the case Sunday, Henley pointed out the game-changing effect Ronstadt had on the careers of so many aspiring songwriters when she turned her attention to one of their songs.
“This song got very little notice when it came out on our second album in April of 1973,” Henley said of “Desperado.” “When Linda recorded it and put it out on her ‘Don’t Cry Now’ album in September of 1973, everything changed.”

I seriously believe Don about the perm. Why would he lie? Your hair changes over time. Mine became less curly as I got older.

Yes, one of your comedians did a bit about that. He checked in at an American hotel and his concierge said, "Hello, I'm Randy" which took the Brit aback.
It's probably a standard joke, right? I'm sure more than one comedian (as recently as Rowan Atkinson) has claimed on a chat show that their first time in America, they walked up to a policeman and asked, "Where can I get some fags?" and the policeman is aghast - har dee har har.

An item popped up today from Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/see-u2-rem-play-bill-clinton-inauguration-as-automatic-baby-w461445) about Don playing the MTV Inaugural Ball for Bill Clinton in 1993. Apparently there was a bit of drama!
The relevant part:
"According to Bill Flanagan's stellar book U2: At The End of the World, Don Henley was none-too-pleased when he learned that the organizers wanted Automatic Baby [U2 and REM] to close out the show.
'[MTV co-founder Tom] Freston goes up to Henley,' wrote Flanagan, and says, 'Look, Don, you do your whole set, close the show, and then after the applause ends these other guys'll come out and do 'One' as a sign off.'
Henley didn't buy it. 'Henley goes pale - he looks shaken,' wrote Flannigan. 'He reminds Freston that he is supposed to close the show. Then he turns, goes into his dressing room and shuts the door. Freston is left staring at the closed door wondering if he should knock, when someone comes up, hands him a portable phone, and says he has a call. Freston says hello and gets an earful of Irving Azoff, Henley's powerful manager, telling him he's made a big mistake and now Don's not going to go on.'
Needless to say, Freston folded and let Henley close out the show."

The Eagle's Don Henley joins smoothfm
Friday 27 January, 2017
Legendary singer-songwriter Don Henley is the latest big name to join the smoothfm all-star weekend line-up. Henley will host his own show on smoothfm from this Sunday 29 January.
The American producer and singer-songwriter is best known as a founding member of the Eagles. The band sold over 150 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy Awards before Henley embarked on a successful solo career.
Henley returns to smoothfm after being involved in counting down some of listener's favourite tracks in the smoothfm Top 500 Countdown, which aired from 22 January to Australia Day, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to return to the airwaves.
Henley said, "1 don't get a chance to talk to my fans in Australia so this is a wonderful opportunity."
Georgie Page, smoothfm Program Director said, "The Eagles are an iconic band and continue to be one of the most successful groups in history. We are thrilled to have Don join the smoothfm family as we know listeners will love hearing his stories.'"
Henley is in Australia performing with an impressive 15 piece band and playing hits from his entire four decade career. smoothfm listeners can see him in action in Sydney at the ICC Sydney Theatre on Friday March 10 and in Melbourne at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday March 8 with tickets available for purchase from ticketek.com.au.

Don't give up, RudieCantFail. I also told my friend who lives in California that she will see Don again. I think she hasn't seen him since 2015 when he did his first leg of the Cass County tour.
I know I was complaining that Don didn't have not one southern dates last fall and then Don came out with tour dates in the south. It was also around the time I was trying to save to see Donny and Marie in my home state, but I end up going to both anyway. And then the people in the northeast and midwest were not happy he didn't include dates in their area.
He'll be back to California and Northwest soon. He'll probably be touring this fall. I never thought I would get the chance to see Don. I took plunge and travel the 8 hours to Austin(this was a last minute decision after I found out my best friend wasn't going to be in town) and then 3 hours to Houston(I also wanted to see my best friend in Houston and I did get to see her). It was soo worth it.

This radio interview with Don was originally posted in the Classic East/West Concert thread by Philh. I'm providing a brief transcription since these links tend to expire. It took place this a.m.
First, Don discusses his band and setlist. He said if someone in the audience yells out a request, they can sometimes put it together and perform it, that's how versatile and good his band is.
Then he talks about the upcoming Eagles concerts. He says he looks forward to them but he can't say who is in the line-up just yet. They are keeping it in the family. He's not trying to be coy about it. There will be an official announcement soon. He wants to stress that they are not replacing Glenn b/c Glenn is irreplaceable.
He believes what they're doing is something Glenn would have approved of. He said when Glenn passed away, he didn't think they could go on. But they received messages from people all over the world who want to see them continue. Don said they have to do it in a way that honors Glenn and his legacy. He said the future is going to be interesting. He also said, "so far the reception we've had has been good, very positive."
Don gets asked about the documentary, specifically how hands-on the band members were in its creation. Don said, "we fully participated" but I'm not sure if he understood the interviewer's question. He then gets asked if there's anything he wished was included that was left out. Don's answer was a firm "nope..there's plenty in there."
Don is asked about Linda Ronstadt. Don says he doesn't talk to her too often but they do exchange emails here and there. She does speaking engagements occasionally. He recommends her autobiography.
Don talks about his legacy, basically saying he doesn't think about it. The most important thing to him is to be a good father. Because of this, he doesn't do albums very often. He mentions he still has two kids living at home, with one of them graduating this month.
He also talks about the difficulty in making The Long Run album, b/c the interviewer asks him about it. He also discusses his first car (a '48 Dodge). I believe that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Don also did an interview with a Dallas station this morning (I cannot find a link to it online) they did not discuss the Classic concerts at all.
He did discuss how he honors Glenn at his solo shows, dedicating songs to him at the end of the set and such. And about the outpouring of love and support that the fans have shown them. (All that has been mentioned on this board before) He also said since Glenn's passing it has made him more grateful of the small things in life such as getting his kids up and dressed for school, in which he said one is graduating this month as Delilah mentioned, and for helping with homework and changing light bulbs. The interviewer then states "Wow, how cool is that to get help on your English homework from Don Henley" Don then says "Ah, yeah that don't ask for that".
He was asked about his Walden Woods Project and Don said this year is a big one because it celebrates what would have been Henry David Thoreau's 200th birthday.
Then about his work at Caddo Lake, he said it is all good, and that he is heading that way tomorrow for a board meeting.
Anyone up for a road trip to East Texas tomorrow?!

Also, I'm a little disappointed that Environmentalist Don has an SUV (if the article is correct, which you never know). Especially after his sarcastic jibe on them in The Long Road Out of Eden (title song).
I think he should drive an electric car, like his fellow Walden board member Ed Begley, Jr. Or at least a hybrid!:)

Good disguise I suppose  I'm more disappointing with the 8ft high wall and the purchase of both neighboring properties. If you want to boost a town's economy, you don't buy property and then leave it empty for the majority of the year.
I recently read an article where Sheryl Crow compared working for Michael Jackson and Don Henley. She said she only saw MJ on stage whereas Don cheerfully hung out backstage with his backing band. I think I need another source to support that Henley anecdote :stunned:
Great to hear that Don offered to sing on Chris Holt's Stargazer album. I'm Wasted is on YouTube;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdZtGZGKtvw.
Here's an article that suggests Henley is open to doing some writing with former One Direction idol Niall Horan.
https://www.yahoo.com/music/niall-horan-plots-intimate-apos-152016274.html
In a recent SiriusXM interview, Horan also teased a potential collaboration with Don Henley. "I've got quite a close relationship with [Henley], and Don had spoke about before maybe doing some writing together," he said. "So even just sitting there having a jam with him would be enough for me."
Wouldn't that be something! :-D

Wow, they write how he tries to maintain his privacy by building an 8 ft fence and buying the adjacent property, and then they tell us which Whole Foods in the Dallas area he shops at. *grumble, grumble* Dirty Laundry *grumble, grumble*
I'm sure that Don has his reasons for driving an SUV, since those are such a pain to drive as a rental car. If I had a choice, I'd rather drive a pick-up truck instead of a bulky SUV. He has 3 kids, right? So that may have been the reason why, as well as what Funk 50 suggested that it may be a disguise.
It's pretty cool that he's willing to work with a younger artist, like Niall Horan. Thanks for sharing Funk 50!

Don probably has a pickup truck and a car. The SUV is probably to drive his kids around especially if they had to go places(games or practices if they did do any of those) or have to drive them and their friends around just like any parent would do if their kids are not driving yet. Will, Annabel and Sophie probably got a car when they were old enough to drive.

The issue isn't whether Don has justifiable reasons for driving an SUV, it's why is it ok for him and not other Americans, plenty of whom also have kids. When I read he was in an SUV, I also thought about that line from LROOE. His finger-wagging is one of the reasons I'm not crazy about the album.

Rudie - I have to agree with you. He builds a 8 ft. wall around his home and buys the adjourning pieces of property on both sides of his home and then they list the Whole Foods he shops at. Crazy !
Delilah - I also dislike when Don, or for that matter any other artist, does their preaching/lecturing in their music.

Henley's finger-wagging is unattractive, imho. He did write;
Have you noticed that an angry man
Can only get so far
Until he reconciles the way he thinks things ought to be
With the way things are(My Thanksgiving)
though
I think it's impossible for a highly principled, true environmentalist to earn money in such a throwaway profession as a global entertainer. It's a major compromise however forthright the views expressed are

In MHO there are others ways to show your concern for the environment than lecturing people in your songs.
However, thanks to Don's work, Walden Woods was saved instead of being plowed over for condos or a strip mall.

I hope the concerts lift his spirits too. If he wants to continue touring, more power to him but I hope he doesn't push himself too hard. On the other hand, the discussion of his various ailments and the funerals he's attended don't make him much different from a lot of 70 year-olds. :)
It was Joe Walsh whom Richard Bowden was reassuring, telling him to just let Don be tense (in the Eliot book).
I thought Don wanted make an R&B album but the reporter refers to a soul album. The genres overlap anyway, I suppose. It would be great to read his autobiography.

Nice interview of Don. I didn't post it in the Eagles press thread b/c it includes mention of the new Eagles and am unsure of the protocol.
Glenn is still very much on his mind.
“It’s very strange to be on the road without him,” Henley began. “It’s just odd. I don’t know if I will ever get completely accustomed to it.”
Also, some more detail about the Hotel California/Broadway project.
Frey was working on plans to produce a musical-theater piece based on The Eagles’ catalog — the pivotal piece being the 1976’s 32 million seller, “Hotel California.” Frey, a native of Detroit, had visited the University of Michigan to try out some of the songs with a choral group.
“Just how the songs worked in a different context,” Henley said. “(Frey) was very keen to do that research and find out about the process. And then he got pneumonia.”
"The Eagles are coming to town, with Glenn Frey’s son Deacon taking his place",The Seattle Times, Sept. 15, 2017 (http://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/the-eagles-are-coming-to-town-with-glenn-freys-son-deacon-taking-his-place/?ref=yfp)

Thanks Delilah - An interesting read.
However, I don't get this : "Things were fine between the two friends before Frey’s death, Henley said. They had just finished the “History of the Eagles” tour and each gone back home to their families". If things were "fine" why would Don say he and Glenn had been "estranged for years" when he gave the interview with the Washington Post in Dec. 2016 for the KCH.
This confirms my feelings that they had been thinking about touring again since Don made that statement to the Montreal newspaper in March 2016 about only getting back together if Deacon would do it.

Are you thinking of this comment from Jackson Browne?
Browne described Henley and Frey differently.
“I think that they figured out how to come back together and work, but I don’t think they ever quite achieved the same kind of bond that they had in their youth,” he says.
He recounts a telling exchange with Henley before the Grammy tribute.
“I mentioned, in retrospect, ‘You know, I was really estranged from Glenn,’ and he said, ‘I was, too.’ ”Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/don-henley-says-the-eagles-are-done-it-was-always-glenn-freys-band/2016/11/28/ccd89a4a-aa6a-11e6-977a-1030f822fc35_story.html?utm_term=.1d6b70dbc178)
If so, I think I get it. They weren't really estranged but they no longer had the close relationship that they shared when young. Also, Don's view may have shifted. The exchange with Jackson was at the Grammy tribute when everything was raw and he may have been regretting not having that final chance to make it right. Eighteen months later, he may have been reassured that Glenn understood.
I liked the interview. It's a reminder that Don is an emotional man and he's just finding his way through like the rest of us.

I remembered Don saying he was going to try to make Kenny's farewell concert. Well he did and luckily the Eagles were off last night to go to Nashville to be there. Don sang Desperado
http://www.wjbdradio.com/music-news/2017/10/26/kenny-and-dolly-go-out-like-rock-stars-at-the-gamblers-farewell-celebration-2
Earlier in the evening Kenny was serenaded not only be many contemporary country stars, but also peers like Lionel Richie, who sang "Lady" at Kenny's request, Don Henley did the Eagles’ classic “Desperado” in Kenny’s honor and Kris Kristofferson who reminded the crowd that Kenny and the First Edition had cut “Me and Bobby McGee” in 1969 the same year Janis Joplin did.

http://wincountry.com/news/articles/2017/oct/26/kenny-and-dolly-go-out-like-rock-stars-at-the-gamblers-farewell-celebration/
If it was possible for the star power to get brighter from there, it did. Though Janis Joplin did the best-known version of his song, Kris Kristofferson arrived to remind the crowd that Kenny and the First Edition had cut “Me and Bobby McGee” in 1969 as well. Don Henley did the Eagles ’ classic “Desperado” in Kenny’s honor.

Here's another article from the other night which also includes the picture I posted in the other thread.
I forgot Kenny recorded Desperado. I had wonder why Don did his own song. Then I saw that Kenny also record that song. I also didn't know Kenny had recorded We've Got Tonight. When I was reading articles from that night, I was wondering why they did Bob's song and Don doing Desperado instead of one of Kenny's songs.
I see I don't know that much about Kenny. lol I only have one album of his and I forgot the name of it. It came out late 90s, early 2000s, but I know a lot of his songs he released as singles.
The biggest names across all genres of music took the stage Wednesday night (Oct. 25) at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to celebrate Kenny Rogers at All in for the Gambler: Kenny Rogers Farewell Concert Celebration. The Oak Ridge Boys, Don Henley, Idina Menzel, Lionel Richie, Billy Currington, Elle King, Little Big Town, Justin Moore, The Flaming Lips, Alison Krauss, Chris Stapleton and Dolly Parton were among those on hand to honor Rogers. Before Rogers and Parton ended the evening with a mic drop, a steady stream of artists hit the stage to share memories and songs from the iconic artist’s six decades long career.
The crowd took to their feet in thunderous applause as Don Henley stepped into the spotlight to honor his longtime friend and fellow Texan. Henley performed a compelling rendition of “Desperado,” the Eagles classic that has been cut by numerous artists over the years, including Rogers.

I saw the film when I went to the unveiling at Walden in September. It is an excellent film - VERY will done, with lots of beautiful shots of Walden. Robert Redford does a first-rate job of narrating it, but Don also does a good bit of narration and he looks and sounds great - very professional and knowledgeable, and of course, his lovely voice lends itself well to narration. I was hoping to go to the event, but being unemployed right now, even the $35 tickets are a little steep for me. I look forward to watching it again the next time I go to Walden, though.
I'm not sure who does Thoreau's voice on the film - it may be Redford, but I think it might a different actor. Whoever it is, he does a fantastic job!

Thank you for posting the article Shun. It seems this documentary won’t be released to the public but if it’s only 20 minutes long, I’m not surprised. (the video link has already expired).
Walden, the documentary, will be on display at the visitor center at Walden Woods, a location more than half a million people visit annually to learn about the life and legacy of Henry David Thoreau and transcendentalist philosophy as a whole. While the short documentary is effectively inaccessible to larger audiences, Henley teased he may be open to a larger preservation project in the years to come.

A couple of thoughts:
1) If there is new evidence that could lead to a successful prosecution, why leak the details to a gossip site in advance?
2) It's quite easy to build a conspiracy story around information that has been around for a long time - it accounts for many films and books. Just because part of the story matches with what we've already read, doesn't guarantee that the rest is true.
I don't have a particular wish to defend Mr Henley, but I'm taking this with a large dose of salt.

I am not an attorney but, there are two things I see wrong with this.
1) Don was already sentenced for this and was placed on probation, fined, and ordered to attend and complete drug counseling. He complied and his probation was successfully completed. To charge Don again violated the laws of Double Jeopardy. He can not legally be charged for the same crime twice.
2) In addition, this offense occurred 37 years ago and the Statue of Limitations has more than likely expired.
This is just someone's idea of a vicious, nasty rehash of a 37 year-old story.

I agree. You can't charged someone for the same crime again. Even if you have new evidence come up or can they?, Oh well.
Its different if this incident was kept a secret for many years and we didn't know about it until 37 years later. Yes Don should be worried if it happened that way. I would be very pissed at Don, BUT that didn't happened that way. Don is different with his situation since this was in the news back in 1980 and this wasn't a secret.
With everything that's happening with actors, producers, and politicians where stuff happened from years ago popping up, I guess this person wants to bring up this dirty laundry again even though Don was arrested and sentenced.
Don was not proud of that and that's probably one history he doesn't ever want to see again. This smells fishy IMO.
It was troubling then and now - these were very young girls 15 and 16 years old.
I finally have some time today ... what can I say I love Cyber Monday shopping LOL ... and am going to go back and reread and see what this is all about.

If there is new evidence that could lead to a successful prosecution, why leak the details to a gossip site in advance?

You're right actually, I forgot this detail as I am not american :-)
Anyway I read many comments under the article and some speculated that there may be something bigger behind, given that the ex underage girl is now married to a politician in the public eye.

Well, I read most of the comments under the story. This is just MHO, but I can't see anything new coming from this. Don was sentenced on this case 36 years-ago. Both girls allegedly were runaways and allegedly worked as prosts. who may have lied about their ages. Both girls were arrested and the 16 year-old was charged. Both were turned over to Child Protective Services. Apparently the 15 year-old was not charged. The case, according to the story, was allegedly investigated by Child Protection Services. Allegedly, the then 15 year-old girl is now married to a Republican Congressman from Calif.
While I also find/found the whole thing disgusting and troubling, I can't imagine what else can be said that has not already been said in the news/press for the last 37 years.

This is from the linked article:
She's prepared a criminal charge against them for many of their misdeeds (which include racketeering and collusion and criminal conspiracy), and is also hitting them with civil charges – with any funds being set aside for childhood victims. Because, you see, those Polaroids she swiped that night? She blew town with them. Years later she found them and put them in a safe deposit box.
While I’m doubtful of this article’s claims, theoretically it does appear that any new criminal charges will be based on different causes of action. In other words, “racketeering” and “criminal conspiracy” are different crimes from “contributing to the delinquency of a minor” or whatever Don pled out to back then. So double jeopardy wouldn’t attach. Someone familiar with California criminal law may provide some insight about the Statute of Limitations but depending on the criminal charge it’s not as clear-cut as it may seem (e.g. what if the conspiracy is on-going).
The civil charges are a whole different $$ballgame$$.

That's easy. With everything that's going on in the news, she wants to join the party. I still say this story is very fishy.
I guess we will have to wait and see. She could be calling buff because IMO this story would had came out by now (name or no name mention)when the article was published on that gossip website which seem like nobody in the big media haven't even notice. Hmm. The media are not that stupid. They can put two and two together if they keep digging. I only saw it on my google notification and that was it. I couldn't find it anywhere else.

Thanks Delilah - I did not see the link to read. This whole thing sounds crazy. Why did she wait 36-37 years ? I would be surprised if anything came out of this. The police investigated this 37 years ago. Even civil lawsuits have a statue of limitations. I don't see how they can suddenly level these charges now. Mary Calif. would maybe know more about the laws regarding this.

Incidentally, how is it that Jimmy Page managed to sleep with 13 year old girls and instead of being penalized he was given an honour by the Queen? Perhaps it was in that contract he made with Lucifer? :headscratch:

I have no idea what happened that night all those years ago -- only those in the room know for sure and they have to live with it. Was there wrongdoing? Yes. Who knows if the punishment fit the crime or if should have been tougher, but "justice" (as defined by our legal system) was served,so why rehash it now?
Also, I find it hard to believe that the 15-year old just happened to have a Polaroid camera with her and took pictures all over the place and no one noticed. Those cameras were not exactly small or quiet back then. And if she had the pictures all that time, why didn't she produce them back then? It doesn't make any sense.
I find the incident very sad, but I don't think it makes any sense to bring it up again now. This could throw a damper on all the work Don's done for Walden Woods and Caddo Lake, and I really, really hope Don's wife and kids are not hurt by it.

Nobody has done any victim blaming. The whole thing is a sordid mess. She had 37 years to pursue this and now decides to do something. The whole thing was investigated by the police, if they felt there was more to it they would have filed additional charges. The whole thing appears to be politically motivated.

It could very well be. I hope not. As for the police. LAPD in particular. They took years to properly investigate a violent murder committed by one of their own. Google Stephanie Lazarus. I mention this because I just saw "One Of Their Own" a CBS 48 Hours Mystery on You Tube. It truly shocked me.
Second, just saw this link in the comments section. It's an article in New York Magazine.

I didn't mean to imply that the victim should be blamed or that she shouldn't come forward, if things did happen the way this account states they did. I was just questioning whether this was the truth or not. If it is the truth, I hope she does make people pay. If not, I hope she doesn't cause too much trouble for Don.

There are posts at the beginning of this discussion where a couple of us expressed skepticism at the outset (UtW actually said “take it with a large dose of salt”). I’m not saying there’s no way it could be true, just that it didn’t seem credible enough to be taken seriously.

Um, I would have to disagree. The fact that a lawyer who wishes to remain anonymous, refers to him/herself as Enty Lawyer and is only speaking to an unreliable source makes this all the more dubious imo. What reputable attorney would make sure their secret case is leaked to trash like The Daily Mail and The Daily Beast? And isn't the timing convenient?
The sad thing is that if Henley or someone else is guilty of assaulting this woman, this opportunistic clown, Enty Lawyer, is only discrediting her.

https://www.dailynews.com/2017/12/26/eagles-don-henley-helps-lets-buy-a-mountain-group-preserve-17-acres-in-laurel-canyon/
Government agencies, neighborhood special events, resident and community donations, philanthropic support, and even gifts from some of Laurel Canyon’s storied former residents helped complete the purchase.
Eagles leader Don Henley made a $100,000 donation in memory of his friend and collaborator — and fellow former Laurel Canyon resident — Glenn Frey. “I greatly appreciate your efforts to preserve the rare undeveloped lands that remain in the Laurel Canyon area,” Henley said. “These resources are precious, both in terms of wildlife habitat, and in terms of the human history that resides there.”
