Sometimes, a song that doesn't hit you right off the bat will grow on you until you find you actually like it! That's happened to me with several songs.

Chug All Night - at first I thought this song was lame, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. Now I think it's fun and rockin'.

On the Border - I thought "eh" on first listen but eventually, I started getting into it, especially the ending. It can really get stuck in your head! "On the border... I'm out on the border... on the border..."

One of These Nights - I know many will think I was crazy not to get into this song at first listen, but my first impression upon hearing it was that it was "dated." Now, I think it's an amazing song.

Long Road Out of Eden - I thought this one was bloated and disjointed upon first listen. It wasn't until I saw this live that I really appreciated its drama.

Somebody - initially, I got distracted by Glenn's weird "spooky" voice on "calling you home" and I wasn't sure this was going to do it for me, but eventually, this became a favorite! It's just a dramatic energy to it that pulls you in.

Anybody else?

Desperado - I use to think of it as a boring song or at least not one of my favorites. It really has grown on me the most, it totally "makes sense" to me as a song now and something I can relate to.

On The Border - I never quite liked this song and would skip it but the other day (and I do mean "the other day", like a couple months ago) let it play and I now quite like it!!

Those Shoes - I used to not like this one but I really have 'grown' to like it. The talkbox bits, the lyrics, and all have really grown on me here lately. It is a good track.

Tequila Sunrise - It's no secret (to me anyway) that I've never been fond of the "Desperado" album. This song included. But after a few listens and actually playing it in an Eagles tribute I really started liking it more.

Wasted Time - This song was my "least favorite" of the tracks on my favorite album of all time. But I really started listening to it more here lately and the lyrics are great. I still prefer the other tracks over it (HC, LITFL, NKIT, VOL). But now I prefer it over "The Last Resort" and "Pretty Maids All In A Row".

Off the top of my head....

Lyin' Eyes - It's not necessarily that I didn't like the song. I thought it was okay but would usually not completely pay attention when it was on or I would sometimes hit the skip button. It really has grown on me mostly since I first saw it performed live in 2008 but what really sealed the deal was seeing it performed in San Jose last year (dang!!! I can't believe that was already "last year"). Glenn just completely won me over with that performance. Now it's one of my favorites.

I Love To Watch A Woman Dance - I really felt a bit creeped out at first. I mean, a guy is just standing there staring at you while you dance and he's loving it? CREEPY! I just wasn't really feeling this song at all but then I started to really hear Glenn's voice and the passion and feeling in it started to draw me in. I then began to listen more intently to the lyrics and started to feel less and less creeped out. I like this song a lot now. It's not bad, not bad at all. :)

I Can't Tell You Why - I would first just like to say I'm very sorry to Willie but please finish reading this before you start to reach for the tomatoes. I used to never really care for this song and would almost always hit the skip button. It seemed boring and too slow. It really just wasn't my cup of tea. Even during my first Eagles concert I left for a bathroom break during this song. I'm not quite sure what exactly changed my mind but it wasn't until this past year that I really started to appreciate and enjoy it. It's very smooth and the vocals are smokin' hot. It's got the signature Eagles harmony and the guitar work is fantastic. I no longer skip this song when it plays and it's actually become a favorite of mine.

:woah: You are soooo lucky you redeemed yourself here!!! I'm glad you finally came to your senses!

A couple off the top of my head.

Somebody- I did not appreciate this till I saw it live in Chicago the first time!! It wasn't anything in particular about it that I can pinpoint. But when I saw Glenn sing it with that smokin' voice, I just loved it!!

Help Me Thru The Night- Thanks to some very persistent Borderers, I finally gave it a few honest, objective listens and soon saw the light!! It's a very beautiful song.

Out Of Control- I bet I skipped this song for 20 years and I can't tell you why or when it finally hit me that this was a pretty good song. Now I really like it

On The Border- Again, can't pinpoint when or why I suddenly decided "it isn't so bad" but it was another one that I really didn't appreciate when I first heard it. I remember thinking, "this is the title track? What were they thinking?".

As I get older, I notice a lot more songs by other artist that I have learned to appreciate also over the years. I guess we mellow as we get older.

BTW--Soda--when will we see Disco Strangler on this list for you?

Lyin' Eyes - I don't know why, but I didn't list this as one of my favourites when I first got into the Eagles. Perhaps I found it a bit long/slow/overplayed. Now, however, I absolutely LOVE it. When I first saw the Eagles live in Birmingham, this was the song that gave me goosebumps - the whole crowd sung along, and you could just feel the warmth and nostalgia in the room. A perfect example of how music moves people and affects them deeply.

In The City - This has totally grown on me since seeing it live. Joe's guitar work towards the end when he really gets into it... AWESOME! It makes me smile just thinking about it.

I'd like to say that most of these changes of heart have come from playing the Survivor games. Something about listening to the songs with the intent of 'grading' them helps to appreciate every little thing about the song.

Hollywood Waltz - Buried among 'the hits', it seemed easy for me to not give this one its due. But thanks to the One Of These Nights Survivor this has become a lovely little song.

The Last Resort - Just like a movie that you have to watch a couple of times to catch the plot, it took me a long while to appreciate this song's lyric. When I finally 'got it' and connected it to the beautiful melody I was hooked.

Those Shoes - I don't know...maybe I just like 'funky' more now.

Waiting In The Weeds - Honestly, when I first started reading everyone's love for this song here I thought something was wrong with me. I wasn't feelin' it. But I think I was trying too hard, maybe trying to hear what all of you liked about it instead of finding what touched me personally about the song. Thankfully I found it and was able to hear it live in Indy afterward.

And no, it isn't lost on me that all of these are Don songs!

No doubt about it. King of Hollywood. I know some here find the whole message of the song less than desirable, but listening to it really loud last summer one evening sitting on our deck, Don's voice and the guitar work just really hit me and I just love it now.

Mmmh, I must say at the beginning I had my difficulties with Those Shoes actually,I don't know why but something in this song has totally disturbed me.

Thank you, PB. Also thanks for your comments on Lyin' Eyes.

If I have one at the moment it's probably I Don't Want To Hear Any More, which was my least favourite from LROOE until I saw it live. I got a great deal more out of the melody (particularly just before the solo, the line 'let me walk away with my head high') and the understated harmonies.

Another might be Bitter Creek, because it's so dark and brooding; it almost has a Neil Young flavour to it. I have always liked its positioning on the album & in fact, dare I say it, perhaps I get more out of it these days than I do the title track (runs & hides). It is just the end of it I find a bit disappointing.

Mostly, however, the songs which tend to grow on me are solo songs which I don't know as well as the Eagles stuff.

Oh yes! I absolutely love I Don't Want To Hear Anymore, too. I wasn't fussed about it at first, but after hearing it live, it really got to me. The way they all sing "I've been here before..." and when Tim does his heartfelt "I know how this all ends" and "let me walk away with my head high". LOVE IT!
