IMO he should have wrapped this up and gotten it released before now. The Big Machine is on the verge of kicking off the big anniversary tour which isn't going to bode well for lots of solo shows. I'm so disappointed that the release keeps getting pushed back. At this rate I can put it on my wish list for my 45th birthday (which isn't for two more years!).

I'm patiently waiting for that c.d. to come out. I will love to hear what his new album sounds like. Sucks it is getting pushed back month after month, but I know it will be worth the wait.

Him saying that It Don't Matter To The Sun will definitely be on it at the Beaumont show means that he's at least got that decided ~ but it still makes you go 'really? you're just now figuring out what songs will be on the album?'

Plus like VOL says I worry there will be no solo tour now if it is released in September since the Eagles are touring in the fall. I was really counting on that... I haven't seen Don solo in years.

Thanks for posting this.

It's interesting that he says that he and Glenn still disagree but now they deal with it better.

The radio guy says Don's new album is 'mind boggling.' Has he heard it or is he just saying that?

I'm betting he just is saying that. I don't think Don is handing out copies of Cass County to DJs yet.

I literally cannot wait for this CD. It feels like we've been waiting an eternity! (Oh wait... we have...) I'm sure it will be worth it, though. I'm excited to hear what songs he's chosen and how his voice sounds, especially in a slightly different style. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty romantic, old-fashioned and downright dreamy. Can't wait to see the cover pic/artwork too!

I hope there are at least as many new songs as covers, but I doubt it. Just as I said with Glenn, I love that he is putting out another album, but I love original material even more!

Do we have a date for this yet? Seems like it was supposed to release a long time ago, & it still hasn't happened! I just can't see him releasing this in the middle of this tour.....How is that going to work??? I just don't get it? Very frustrating!:brickwall::brickwall:

VAisForEagleLovers
06-10-2013, 05:05 PM
I think one of the dates he tossed out there recently was September. I honestly don't remember. Maybe he'll do a bit of a solo tour in between tour legs? I hope he does, although all these concerts are getting to be expensive. Maybe he'll come to DC and I won't have to travel. :)

When I saw him at the Paramount on April 3rd he was going to Nashville the next day to finish it and he said it would be released in September.

Hopefully he means it this time. :brickwall:

06-10-2013, 10:21 PM
Yeah - I know we are all crossing our fingers that the album really is going to be released in September. However, until an official release date is announced, I think it's highly improbable that we'll get any info about tour dates or presales.

Topkat
06-10-2013, 11:00 PM
Even if it does release in Sept. How is he going to do solo shows in between legs of the Eagles tour? He will be exhausted & how is his voice going to hold up doing so many shows without a break? I just don't see that happening....

If it does release, I wouldn't be surprised if there is very little promotion & touring.....That concerns me, as I would like the album to get the full attention that it deserves.....I mean it's been a long time coming.

Maybe he will release it in November (think Christmas) and do some touring then.

I guess that would be a better solution, but that means another 2 month delay.... Let's not hold our breath waiting!

I just see the Sept. release as a conflict with the Eagles tour...:worried:

I think he made a wise choice to wait until after the doc came out. Think of how many new fans or fans that are rediscovering them are out there. This message board is a good example. Look at how many members joined after the doc was released!

This is all assuming, of course, that people know that Don Henley is an Eagle. (No Soda, I'm not picking on you!) ;-)

I don't really think it had anything to do with waiting for the doc to come out...
It wasn't finished yet!! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
I doubt Don even cares if he gets any new fans from the doc or the album...He just does things at his own pace...When he's ready, it will be out. We have been waiting so long already, so another month or two is nothing new....
I just would like to see him tour a little for the new album, & with the Eagles tour, it's just a little concern, but I'm sure Don knows exactly what he's doing!

Houston Debutante
06-12-2013, 12:36 PM
I bet he cares about getting new fans, it would be a feather in his cap for sure if this album sold well. But vocal rest is a good point. I don't want him hurting that gorgeous voice by overdoing it.

While most of this article (http://www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.ssf/2013/07/eagles_don_henley_on_the_dvd_t.html) is about the Eagles and has been posted elsewhere, we do get the following snippet about Cass County:

"Both Miranda Lambert and Lee Ann Womack sing on my forthcoming solo album, as does another wonderful singer from East Texas named Molly Felder (no relation). Molly is in a group (duo) called Swan Dive. They’re headquartered in Nashville."

It's amusing that he clarifies "no relation" after naming Molly Felder. LOL.

Well OLM, I guess you'd better take a chill pill cause I don't think any of us have a choice other than to wait - we're on Don's clock after all. Although I'd love to hear this sooner rather than later, to tell the truth, I'm not at all surprised. He has been talking about this album & the R&B album since 2009 when this topic was started & in fact long before that, I think, and after actually promising September 2013 this is very puzzling. I mean it is a CD, for heaven's sake, not War & Peace or painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling. To quote the great Jeremy Clarkson 'how hard can it be'? Yes, the Eagles got in the way, but why keep announcing release dates & scrapping them?

Topkat
08-04-2013, 09:04 AM
It just makes sense with the tour happening right now. They are touring thru Nov. I bet they will take Dec off & then tour again in Jan. The only chance for this year is for Christmas, but now it doesn't look good.

I bet they don't even know when it will release, unless it releases during some break in the tour. Don will need time to promote it & to do at least some solo shows, so who knows when that's going to happen???:worried:

Just curious - I thought this current Eagles tour is supposed to run for a "couple of years" (where did I hear this, who said it?). If this is true, why do you think Henley would release a solo album while the HOTE tour is still active/ongoing? Even if they took 3 or 4 or 5 months off in between continents, I can't see him touring solo in between to support an album, and it seems like the PR would get confusing between his solo stuff and upcoming Eagles shows.

Eagles have released solo albums during Eagles tours before, although they usually wait for breaks between legs. I imagine that'll be what Don does, or else we won't see that sucker until 2015 or 2016! Shoot, at that rate, he might as well wait until he turns freaking 70 in 2017!

Well the Eagles are never quick about doing solo projects when they are touring, but I suppose they have to give their all to the tour! I could be wrong but they tend not to tour as much as a group in August. Say they take on Europe in June/Early July, then break for the summer. Its possible he may release it in..... August??

I'm hoping for Kentucky, but Nashville is an option as well. I haven't seen him in concert for far too long. It was before the Eagles act 2(1994). Plainly, he likes to torture us. Still, as I said in another thread, maybe it just won't be released in the UK until next year? I hope that's it. This is the same article even if published in NZ, so they pulled it from the wire, and it's not a separate interview.

Came across a Don mention in my Google alerts that I figured pertains to this album. It's about a musician named Bryan Sutton.

When asked “Who have you recorded with recently?” Bryan Sutton says the names with the slight nonchalance of someone who belongs.

“I worked in studio with guys like Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker and Don Henley earlier this year,” he said without the giddiness of a rookie.

So I guess he must mean he played on Cass County. It seems Don is involving some new musicians.

Thanks for the link, Soda. I hope by 'new' that also means they are young. We want them to live long enough to be able to collect their royalties after the album is released.

I subscribe to Bob Lefsetz's email newsletter, and tonight he talked about hearing a song off Don's new album!

Good news: he rhapsodizes about how great it is.

Bad news: he says it's not due out for "months."

Then again, maybe that's good news too, in the sense that months at least means by the end of the year... Probably...

The thing is that he heard it being played by record company executives, so the endgame is coming, and that's something you can hang your hat on!

I read about this on FB and Bob says the song he heard was amazing and he believes the album should be 'album of the year' that it's just what Don Henley/Eagles' fans are waiting for...he reiterates that all day he couldn't get the Don Henley song out of his head so that augers well...soooo exciting :)

How I wish we could hear it now but I know Don has to have time to promote it but at least we know he must be happy with it 'cos there's no way Don would have let anyone listen to it if he felt there was more to be done...so...fingers and legs crossed!!!!

For a start, it isn't an Eagles album, although I know this man equates Henley with the Eagles. When he reviewed LROOE he completely ignored the other members' tracks. He is primarily a Henley fan & always has been. Nothing wrong with that; but it's far too vague in what it says. He also says this 'Steve Barnett' man claims it's the 'album of the year' which is fair enough as presumably 'Steve' has heard more of it. Bob can hardly make such a claim himself on the basis of one song, fan though he is.

I'm glad that people, who have heard it, are enthusing about Don's, Cass County album, although these guys don't appear to be the type of people that I'd allow to influence my listening habits.

Can an adult contemporary album really be album of the year?

I hope it's better than the Eagles.

F50, I would tend to agree with you on it more than likely not album of the year. As much as I love Don and would hope it is successful, I don't see that happening in this day and age. There are just too many pop and country stars that will undoubtedly outsell him.

I, for one, though, can't wait to get it! Bring it on, Don! :pace:

I couldn't agree more DD - all I've seen on facebook all day is people complaining about Don keeping his new songs for himself and not handing them over to the Eagles to release as their new album!

Its been 15 years since "Inside Job" was released and 6 years since a "best of" was released so for once can't Henley fans have something to get excited over without all the complaining :-(

Well, I am very excited about the news (I thought I said that already, but it bears repeating)!! I do like it when any of the guys put out new music, but Timothy put out an album in 2011 (I think that's when it was), and Glenn and Joe in 2012, so it is very definitely Don's turn. I've been waiting for this album very patiently (:lie:) for a while now.

I really hope he gives more information at the concert tomorrow.

For the record, "this 'Steve Barnett' man" is the Chairman & CEO of Capitol Records. He got there because he knows success when he hears it. If he feels this way about Don's album, I'm hoping that means they'll support it and him more than some other experiences Don has had with record companies...

ETA: In regards to Don keeping these songs to himself and not making them 'Eagles' songs, I can agree with that to an extent. In my opinion, any of their solo songs sound better when performed by the Eagles. The mix of voices will always be better than hired back-ups. Yet I know it's important for all of them to maintain and add to their solo catalog. I certainly fully support Don putting these songs out solo, and as quickly as possible.

I expected a comment like this, but to be honest I will show some enthusiasm when the album is released. He has been 'bringing out new material' since I don't know when. This topic was started in 2009.

I have no objection to Lefsetz being primarily a Henley fan but I did object to him referring to this as an Eagles album when it is no such thing. His style of writing irritates me too & it would do so no matter who he wrote about.

This is the Eagles album you’ve been waiting for.

I agree, FP. Regardless of his opinions, he should be smart enough to realize he loses credibility by calling it an Eagles album when it isn't. The last statement lessens his credibility even further. His tone smacks of the Lebowski line that journalists with little depth say ("I hate the f'n Eagles") in order to try and sound 'cool'.

I can't believe I'm defending Lefsetz but I believe, in this day and age, the acts that would put out an album and dominate the airwaves for several months just don't exist anymore. Albums come and go in a matter of weeks, if not days.

The Eagles last album, Long Road Out Of Eden, as much as I like it, ended up being recorded by Henley and Frey at two separate locations, burdened by compromise and a long period of productive inactivity.

LROOE really loosened the definition of an Eagles album. The gulf between LROOE material and solo Eagles material is negligible, the huge chasm is only in potential live audience.

I'm looking forward to a potential Henley media blitz to accompany Cass County's release. We haven't had one those for decades.

You can say that if you like. Certainly LROOE can sometimes sound like a collection of solo tracks. However LROOE is an Eagles album by virtue of the fact that all four members play & sing on it. Cass County is a Don Henley album. Describing it as an Eagles album, as I said, is wrong & misleading. How long it will stay in view is a completely different question which I am not prepared to answer.

Was just wondering about Cass County - again!!! Is there any word that Kenny Rogers might be featuring on it given his past history with Don? I think it would be great and be almost like coming full circle. I saw a picture on FB of Don and Dolly and I heard rumours that Vince Gill and maybe Merle Haggard are on it so I was just thinking of Kenny as I heard him this morning on the radio. He has a great voice - I'm kinda surprised he hasn't duetted with Don since they go back such a long way - but maybe they have - I'm open to correction.

The CMA Music Festival is happening that week. The event is the all star week for country music. There are multiple free concerts that week at various stages around town. It's the "who's who" of country music that week. CMA hosts the country music radio stations at a large event there. It is very fan focused event too.

I don't care much for new country music, but I live in the south. This event is a very big deal in the country music industry. Sounds like the buzz is beginning.

UMG is affiliated with the CMA event and they're affiliated with Capitol, so it all ties together quite nicely.

It's unclear from this snippet, but I suspect this is a preview party for the record company executives and the media. They sit around, sip champagne, and listen to the album; the execs fantasize about how much money they'll make from it as they kiss up to the media people there (this according to my cynical friend who works at Sony; I have no firsthand knowledge). Typically, the artist is there, but he doesn't necessarily perform. He may talk a bit about the album - song inspirations, anecdotes, stuff like that, to keep things entertaining. Perhaps some other people will be invited. The guest list is usually kept short, however.

There's no telling what the location will be... and who knows, I might be wrong, and this might be some other kind of event entirely. We'll have to keep our ears open.

When Joe previewed Analog Man at the Troubadour, it was filmed although I can't remember how and when I got to view it. Probably via his website. While I'm not expecting Don's Cass County preview to turn up on YouTube on the 12th June, he must have reassessed his stance on modern media, otherwise his record company are going to struggle to promote it.

What Year?

..only kidding

September is pretty good. The vast majority of CDs are bought at Christmas, so Don's got a few months to make sure his CD is placed under many Christmas trees on Christmas Eve.

Glenn, Joe and Tim all spent a week or two in the UK to promote their solo CDs, Tim even played some shows.

I saw Don solo once in 1989, I think I still have the Life In The Fast Lane T-Shirt, it'd be great to see him again, after all these years.

Manchester had no adequate venues in 1989, we now have the mighty BBC here (ok Salford) so there's a reasonable chance that Don will pay us a visit. Joe and Tim did. :)

I found this article just a few minutes ago:
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/don-henley-solo-album-2015/

I don't think that there's anything new on there (the articke was written in April, but I didn't see it posted in this thread).

In the article, there's a link to this page where this a video of Don. Unfortunately, I can't watch it at the moment.

OMG! He's just so adorable. What a great smile and those blue eyes.

Ahem... oh, yes, the album. It really sounds fantastic. Can't wait to find out about the duets and trios and can't wait 'till it's actually in my cd player!

I'm really hoping that the September release date is announced as the official release date soon! What a cool 20th birthday gift for me that would be! (Hint hint, family members lol )

It's not posted here because the video is from a year ago, and UCR and everyone else treated it like it was brand new news. Of course, now it looks like the album will be out this fall, but at the time 'this fall' meant fall of 2014. Noise11 was the first to distribute the link to the video like it was news and it is discussed here or in the press thread somewhere, and I believe the link is there as well. UCR just posted the exact same article, so I didn't see the need to repeat it (there were several hundred outlets that posted the same wire report.) But way to keep an eye out for new information!!

 sorry. I just saw the April 2015 date, and I quickly looked through this thread around that date, and I didn't see it posted.
That sucks that websites want to recycle old (a guess a year is old now) articles/videos to create some extra interest, imo. (Unless UCR didn't know about it (

The video isn't (or wasn't) dated, so when one news outlet found it and thought it was new, it snowballed from there.

Ah, I understand. Dates are very important!

Well - for the first time, I'm beginning to have really positive vibes that Cass County is actually going to be released. However, Don has thrown out some other dates in the past that never came to fruition, so I'll feel even a lot better once I see an official release date announced!

I certainly pay little attention to Don naming "mid to late September" but I'm not doubting the press release about Thursday's album preview.

Don Henley will preview his new Capitol album Cass County June 11 in Nashville.

Normally, I'd expect an artist to want as much publicity about a new album as possible but in Don's case, I'm almost expecting a launch shrouded in embargoes and secrecy. :hilarious:

I'll be demoralised if things aren't, at least, a little clearer on Friday.

Still no news from Capitol Records.

Well, it's early yet. We'll see!

Hopefully his people will update his website soon, which still proclaims excitedly that the Very Best of Don Henley, released in 2009, is "available now!"

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Someone please tell Don's people to get with the times!

Fingers crossed that we'll know something soon! Hopefully, something will leak out.

2009 is a couple of weeks ago in Don's time scale :-P

We're making a new thread since this one has been speculation for six years. Now that we know this is actually happening and will be released this September for real, we can have an official thread for Cass County! I've moved all our posts there.
