TopKat, this lists the Friday appearance. J&R's? From Eaglesband.com...

If you are in the New York area, join Joe tonight, June 5th at 9P at the Apple Store on West 14th St in New York, NY (http://www.apple.com/retail/west14thstreet/) for a special Q&A. He will also be appearing live at J&R in lower Manhattan (http://www.jr.com/) on Friday, June 8th at 12:30PM for a brief performance and autograph signing. Space for both is available on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to arrive early.

Listening to the album now and loving it! This rocks! I'll post more thoughts later.

However, I'm a little miffed about something that is no fault of Joe's. I know these soft CD cases are more environmentally friendly, but the edge of mine just got creased from me doing nothing more than removing the plastic wrap! Come on! Can't they make these more durable?

Has anybody had a chance to look at the artwork? I love the retro background images, and I also think it's cool that he includes not only lyrics but a little blurb about each song. The song blurbs are so interesting! The only thing I think is a bit questionable is the David Wild mini-article praising Joe and the album as well as talking about his future career plans. You don't need to talk up the album in the liner notes, we already own it! Plus, including stuff about future plans in an album's liner notes makes them out-of-date almost instantly. Anyway, I haven't had a chance to look at the video stuff yet (wish it was easier to distinguish the CD from the DVD disc; I accidentally put the wrong one in the car CD player today). I'm looking forward to playing the DVD!

Some of the album downloads have digital booklets, too - I know iTunes does. Look for it!

"One Day at a Time" has a special thanks to Glenn Frey in its song credits (yes, I read the song credits too). Interesting!

I'm so bummed he didn't include the lyrics to "Fishbone." That song is hilarious! Well, I'll just have to write 'em out myself for JWO. ;)

Yesterday, when I couldn't find the information on Joe's cd signing, I emailed the DJ that hosted Joe's appearance on IHeart Radio & he wrote me back this morning. This is an afternoon appearance near the World Trade Center. I'm not yet sure if I will be going, but I will try. They say Joe will do a brief performance, so that is a big reason to go!! I will let you know if I make it there, but I doubt I will be the first on line! :rockguitar:

Here is the Howard Stern interview. Wow It's long, but worth listening to.
Joe discusses Stevie Nicks, Hendrix, Ringo, Leslie West. This was a great interview & I learned a lot about Joe here. Stern was no holds back in his questions about Stevie. Listen to the entire thing, because he talks about her again at the end of the interview...Pretty intense

My baby got a fishbone stuck, down near where she swallers.
Can't talk louder than a whisper, usually she hollars.

Fishbone (Fishbone)
Got a fishbone stuck (Fishbone)

Might have been some grouper. Might have been some trout.
Mighta been some dover sole, but the damn thing won't come out.

Fishbone (Fishbone)
Got a fishbone stuck.

Went to see the doctor, to find out what she got.
Doctor said "it's a fishbone, I bet it hurts a lot."
She said "Ain't there some procedure doc, I'm crawling up a wall.
I can't eat. I can't sleep. I can't watch TV. I can't have no fun at all."

Fishbone.Got a fishbone stuck.
Fishbone. Fishbone, bad luck.

Might be some ol' rockfish. Might be some wahoo.
Just might be some catfish. Yeah, catfish have bones too.
Fishbone can get nasty. Fishbone ain't your friend.
Fishbone just won't go away. No use to pretend.
So if you're having seafood, chew each bite real slow.
Ya just might come across a fishbone. Just might, you never know.

Fishbone (Fishbone)
Got a fishbone stuck (Fishbone)
Got a fishbone. Bad luck.

Love this jam.

"One Day at a Time" has a special thanks to Glenn Frey in its song credits (yes, I read the song credits too). Interesting!

Maybe it's because Glenn was so supportive of Joe getting sober during the HFO days. Also, wasn't there a big Party of Two tour a year or so before HFO? I've often wondered if Glenn might have been encouraging Joe to go straight even then.

I saw the promo video for Glenn's album on Facebook and I recall that he did say something like he didn't really expect it to top charts, just that he's always wanted to do an album like this and he felt the time was right.

What this does is dates him, all the old songs and maybe Eagles fans aren't used to him doing the crooner thing. Still, he's done it, he was happy with it, did his best and that's really all that matters to him I suppose.

He still has the Eagles. Like with Timothy and Joe, they did their own thing too..wrote their own stuff for their new albums. Bit unusual for Frey to be doing covers, maybe fans aren't used to that either.

Just my HO.

I feel the same, FP, but you know, Joe worked his tail off to promote this album. He did so many shows the end of last year and then toured a lot in May. He has a lot more shows announced and he got the press that went with that. He was very visible with appearances on the Grammy's, and he had a website and FB page set up and connected with fans long before the announcement of the release date. I had a pastor who had been in marketing before becoming a pastor, and he used to tell those of us on Council that it was proven that you needed to tell people things in 5 different ways before they'd hear it once. So the earlier you started the better.

Just an FYI...Analog Man dropped from 12 to 34 on Billboard 200 and from 4 to 13 on the Rock Albums chart. In spite of the word 'dropped' this is still good news, IMO. All the presales over months of time were counted for the first week and one week of sales counted for the second.

Loving all of this press and media appearances for Analog Man. So great that he is "out there" again and playing shows and making the press.

I absolutely still love the album and my review hasn't changed at all. My top two favorites are still Wrecking Ball and Lucky That Way and my two least favorites are Spanish Dancer and Hi Roller Baby".

Regarding Spanish Dancer - on one of the guitar forums I'm on a guy posted a thread about Joe's new album and how much he loved it and "Dancer" was his favorite track on the album. Just goes to show that A - everyone's different and B - There is something for everyone on this album.

TT, is McCartney's son the heavyset guy who looked a bit bored?

Was that Ronnie Wood talking about going way back with Joe?

Prettymaid
07-21-2012, 07:24 PM
Soda, I'm not TT, but that has GOT to be Paul's son. Although he is balding and overweight, he otherwise looks just like him! I'm excited because I've never seen him before. When I think about all the fathers and sons I know, very few of them resemble each other as closely as Paul and his son, John and Julian Lennon, and George Harrison and his son. I find it very comforting to be able to see such a strong resemblance in sons of musicians I loved who are no longer with us.

Yep - that's James McCartney on the sofa. And PM - you are so right about John, Paul, and George's sons looking so much like them. Too bad Ringo's sons don't resemble him as much. If they got those boys all together for a photo shoot, they could do some eerie things.

“One Day at a Time” is dedicated to Glenn Frey, Mr. Walsh’s band mate in the Eagles; the group has performed the Walsh composition live but never released it on an album. (It’s on a concert DVD recorded in Melbourne, Australia, and also viewable on YouTube.) Mr. Frey came to the new recording session. “He rode shotgun,” Mr. Walsh said. “I had it written out on a legal pad, so he helped me get it back into shape.”

That says a great deal about Glenn.

U know, I copied the lyrics AND taped it to my computer at work
After having a really tough day on Weds, on the way home that song came up on shuffle on the way home. Though I dont have a drinking problem, I felt he was reminding me to "live my life one day at a time" as the song says.(THere is a lot going on this week)
ANyway, I posted them where I could see them and be reminded. Well, a co worker started reading them over my shoulder and said it was great and she copied them for her bro a recovering alcoholic.
So, he has touched another two lives who were not aware of his new music.
ANd is just great to hear him talkikng about his recovery in this great article

I thought Joe looked great. Soda, you're right - the backup singers were louder than Joe at times! But it was fun to watch and his performance was fun and energetic.

Joe's probably got a lot of funny stories from his past. I can see where it would be a fine line to cross. As someone who is celebrating being sober for 18 years, do you want to dredge up the unsavory past, or do you just enjoy remembering the 'good times' knowing that you don't live that way anymore? Personally, I would enjoy reading Joe's book, if he ever wrote one. But I wonder how much he actually remembers? :)

I was just thinking about this tonight.

How does everyone think Analog Man is holding up/what are your thoughts on it 2 years later?

I have to say that for me it hasn't held up well... To be honest I've grown to hate that signature ELO/Jeff Lynne gloss and overproduction on it. It seems to glossy for me and some of the tunes are just too cheesy. And not even typical Joe cheesy (I mean I do love songs like ILBTs! :hilarious:). But there is a lot of filler IMO on this record.

My favorite song off of this is ODAAT. I really am glad he put it out there. The F1 version is great too.

I'm very happy that Joe put this out and that Marjorie helped get him on the right track, I just wish Jeff Lynne would have stayed away from it and that it was a bit harder edged rock n' roll ala his early solo records.

Prettymaid
05-16-2014, 08:14 AM
I tend to agree, WF. I haven't listened to the cd for a long time, and because my player is usually set on a single artist right now, I never hear the songs individually either. I get what you mean about the overproduction. I think Joe called Jeff Lynne because Marjorie suggested him, and it seems he really appreciated what Jeff did. But based on most of the songs on AM, you can tell that Joe has really changed musically. I guess that's to be expected; after all he's older and has been through a lot. I also agree with you that One Day at a Time is my favorite song on the album.

Couldn't agree more!! But I've felt this way since day one. I was looking for a Joe Walsh album. NOT a Joe Wilbury album. I like all the songs on the album. Like, not love. What I would LOVE would be if the retired Bill Szymczyk had produced the album!

I agree with you guys, BUT it's still a vast improvement over his late 80s / early 90s stuff IMHO. I also appreciate that he's making new music and taking risks. That said, yeah, I'm in the "like but not love" camp for the album.

I also felt that way about it from day one; I was very disappointed with it, and I absolutely love Jeff Lynne. I always thought there was too much filler & I regard it as a lost opportunity; however I think Soda makes a very valid point.

NB: I should point out we do have a Celebration thread which is possibly where any further discussion should be posted.

Well, you know I absolutely adore those 2 early 90's discs so..... I'll just say I like the songs on Analog Man but I'm not really a Jeff Lynne fan.
