WOW katherine! That was a fabulous review! Thanks for taking the time to give us such wonderful information! I felt like I was there! 8)

Now I want to see Bon Jovi! Well, I did before, but now more than ever! I've always thought he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy and his interaction with his fans makes me know he is. That's really cool that he is willing to allow his fans to actually touch him as he walked by. It could get scary for him!

Loved that about him pulling the woman up on stage with him. I'd have died right there for sure! :fainted: And him walking through the crowd. Great! He's definitely a gorgeous man!

I'm so glad you had such a good time!

:fingerwag: Now, now, dreamer, let's not be tacky here! Besides, if I was face-to-face with Don, talking about another singer would never enter my mind--I would be WAY too focused on Don's baby blues!

Katherine, that WAS a great review! Glad you had such a fantastic time! Sounds like I need to buy tickets to the next Bon Jovi show that comes my way...once I save up from paying for my Eagles tix, that is!

Awesome review Katherine! It sounds like a fabulous show, and great to hear all the interaction Bon Jovi made with the audience. Sounds like more than a few ladies went home on Cloud Nine that night! I wonder if he'll come to the UK?

Well, I came home from my mini-vacation at my brother's to hear this message on my answering machine from my sister:

"Three words. 'I got them.' I'll let you figure out what I'm talking about." Of course, my first reaction was, "Holy crap! The Eagles tickets went on sale over the weekend?!?!" I couldn't believe it, but I had no clue as to what else she could've been talking about. I called her up and asked (only half-jokingly), "You got Eagles tickets?" She laughed and said, "As if!" She wouldn't tell me, but I finally remembered she had e-mailed me last week joking about Duran Duran and asking if I wanted her big sister to take me to see them like she did when I was in high school. I joked back and said, "Ohmigod! Yes!" She took me seriously so now we've got tickets to see Duran Duran in May! I can't believe she thought I was serious, but I'm actually looking forward to it now. It'll be a fun distraction from that other band that I'm dying to see.

John Fogerty - Sydney Entertainment Centre March 26 2008

This man is such a legend I cannot believe it took me this long to see him for the first time. First, DF will be happy to know that I bought mv very own genuine blue & white flannelette plaid shirt ('Fortunate Son' brand). I tried not to but I had to have one. These things are very exotic in Australia (well, maybe not in the outback).

I had a magnificent seat, second row on the right hand side, to Fogerty's left. To my delight, he played guitar without leads. Every few minutes he came over to our side, then to the other side. It was awesome to watch. I had a wonderful view. He was not wearing plaid though - he had on a black velvet shirt with black jeans. Like Joe, he has the strongest, most distinctive Irish face.

He wasn't happy with the sound mix and gave the sound guy on my side a few mentions trying to get him to turn up the sound. I thought the sound was fine except later when I couldn't hear a solo, I think in Up Around The Bend (a song I hadn't expected to hear)

He opened with Travelin' Band and then did Bad Moon Rising, my ultimate favourite CCR song. But it got better and better. He changed guitar with every song. He used black & gold Gibsons, a green Rickenbacker, a blue guitar which I was unsure of the brand, and even a red Strat (favoured by Knopfler - in fact they played Sultans of Swing on the PA before the show. I was in heaven). Classic after classic - Green River, Who'll Stop The Rain, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Midnight Special, I Heard It Through The Grapevine (I have never been a big fan of the CCR version of this but it rocked), Born On The Bayou, Ramble Tamble. Then once we were all excited he started mixing in songs from the new Revival album. A 'political' double of Long Dark Night and I Can't Take It No More was excellent. We also had Creedence Song, Don't You Wish It Was True and Broken Down Cowboy.

My personal 'moment' was during Down On The Corner, which I adore anyway. He came over my side and gave me specifically a big long stare and a smile. It was wonderful. I was over the moon. I even screamed a couple of times after that. He had his two teenage sons playing with him on that song although after the stare I barely noticed. We heard stuff like Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Rock'n'Roll Girls, Old Man Down The Road and the encore, which was a blistering Fortunate Son and Proud Mary.

Fogerty is a brilliant guitarist, singer and songwriter and if every you get the chance to see him, DO IT.

For EF's benefit here is Undercover's story about Keith Urban joining him on stage at a festival in Melbourne. The setlist is almost the same as ours (we didn't get It Came Out Of The Sky - we got Commotion, which was a surprise, and Broken Down Cowboy was much later in our set).

Great review, Fp! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!

I got to see John for the first time about a year and a half ago and he was awesome! He's always been a favorite of mine and hubby's since the CCR days. One of his sons came out and played on one song that night, too. I think my favorite songs of his are Green River and Have You Ever Seen the Rain. We always loved his I Heard It Through the Grapevine, too. Although I really don't know of any I don't like!

He is really energetic on stage for his age. No loitering! Lots of fun.

I second Fp. If you get the chance, GO! He's a legend! :D

WOW, FP! Thanks for that wonderful review! I'm so glad that you had such an amazing time, and especially happy for you that you had a special moment with John. Fantastic! :D It probably made you forget for a while that the Eagles were in London last night!

I love CCR, and I know most of the songs you mentioned. The little band in which I play have some CCR songs in the repertoire, and they always go down a treat with whatever crowd we're playing to. I've seen him perform on TV, and he's very energetic and looks good for his age. He still has that powerful voice and hits all the notes, and his guitar playing is awesome.

Katherine, I haven't yet had a chance to read your Bon Jovi concert review, but I will soon, I promise! At a glance it seems you had a fantastic time, so I'm very happy for you! :D

I missed out on tickets to see John Fogerty at a small venue in Milwaukee last year. Arrrggghhh! I'm hoping I get another chance, sounds like he's still fantastic to see (and hear).

So, during "Bad Moon Rising" did he change the line to, "There's a bathroom on the right." ? I saw a concert on television a few years ago and he did that with a big grin on his face.

Thanks for the review, FP.

Oooh - I don't think so Molly. I was pretty excited during BMR because it's my favourite. If he did change it I didn't notice. I was lucky in the train going home because the iPod very kindly played BMR for me (a few songs after it had played something called I Love To Watch A Woman Dance which left me totally destroyed).

I forgot to mention that another highlight was Lodi, one of the best songs ever written about being a strugling musician. Even my husband likes that one (I couldn't persuade him to go to the show, sadly).

Oh....my.....gosh! Bon Jovi was AMAZING!!! We had the very top row on the side of the stage so I about killed myself getting up those stairs....but they really weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be. We had a good view of the stage and they had big screens.

Daughtry opened and was fantastic! Some of his music was a little harder than I normally like, but he was very very good. He interacted with the crowd very well and got everyone up and going. He was actually a much better frontman than I thought he would be. My favorite song that he did was "Home." I love that song! I also really liked "It's Not Over" and a song that he said they wrote for Idol Gives Back. But I don't remember the title for it.

Then it was time for Bon Jovi and talk about excitement! You could just feel the electricity in the air! They absolutely rocked the house to a sold out crowd of 25,000 plus. I knew Richie Sambora was good on the guitar but holy crap! He's amazing! And my oh my Jon Bon has aged well! :D I have a video of him shaking his bon bon. ;) It's pretty impressive if I do say so myself. lol I also have the first verse and chorus of I'll be There For You, and the guitar solo and chorus of Wanted Dead or Alive on video. I REALLY wish I would have gotten Blaze of Glory on video, when Chris Daughtry came out and sang it with Jon. He has such a powerhouse voice! Jon just stepped back and grinned.

Anyway, it was amazing! At the end Jon talke about how everyone in Fargo had went above and beyond for them and how they had directed the entire backstage area to look like a highway (for their "Lost Highway" album). He said he loved it here and then paused and goes...."I might have to buy me a home here in Fargo." You can imagine the eruption after that! :D

Whew.....I'm still recovering! Check out all my photos on photobucket!!!!!
Some of them are blurry...it was hard to get the hang of taking pictures of the video screen! lol

Maleah - I'm glad you had a great time! It looks like you had an extra bonus with Daughtry coming out and singing with Jon. And you are right about him aging well. I'm actually going to go see him again in July. I'm taking my nephew for his birthday (which is actually today) and my niece is coming along as well. I gave him the choice of Seinfeld or Bon Jovi (and all the while I was silently praying that he'd choose Bon Jovi!). If you're like me Maleah, you'll be on a JBJ high for a couple of days. So glad you enjoyed it!

Oh you are most definently right.......I'm on a JBJ high! lol I think I even fell in love with Richie a bit! Didn't Chris come out and sing with them at your concert? In an interview he had said that he was going to sing WDOA with Jon....so I was a little disappointed at the end when he didn't do that........but Blaze of Glory was amazing! But one other thing I forgot to mention..........HOLY CRAP they're merchandise is expensive! $80 for two T SHIRTS!!!

Oh and I didn't get to make a reply to your comments about the Bon Jovi show you attended earlier but I did read it! I'm so glad that you had a blast as well! It really built the excitement up for me!! I even had to go back and re-read your post and compare your night to mine! lol WHICH brings up this point that I also forgot to mention ;)

as you can see from my pictures.....Jon came out wearing a black jacket with some kind of design on the back and TIGHT black pants! Richie was wearing some long purplish coat and black pants. Then they both took off the jackets. Jon then had on a black vest that showed off chest hair, biceps, and his abs/sides/back every time he lifted his arms. lol Richie had on a black sleeveless shirt that said "Blessed" on it and he was wearing a cross necklace. It was very cool. THEN Jon switched into a red button down shirt that might as well not have been buttoned at all (not that I'm complaining ;) :D ) and then finally for the encore changed into a blue button down shirt (same thing about the buttons) which he TOTALLY unbuttoned at the very end and holy crap that man is ripped! I wish I'd been able to get a picture of that! Richie changed into a button down purple shirt (I think...I was too distracted  )

No, he didn't come out to sing with him, but if I remember correctly, I think I read in the review the next day that he had a cold. Maybe he was saving his voice or something.

HOLY CRAP they're merchandise is expensive! $80 for two T SHIRTS!!!

Yes, they were expensive. In fact, the concert ticket was less than the sweatshirts. I didn't buy anything, but who knows? Maybe I'll buy something at the July concert. I'd feel kind of bad, though, buying something for myself and not for my niece and nephew! I mean, I love them, but not that much! Just kidding!

I figured maybe you hadn't read it because you didn't want my review to spoil the show for you. That's why I've been strong and haven't watched any of the youtube clips of the Eagles doing the new songs in Europe. I only watched Desperado and one or two of the older songs right after the first or second show in London. I want the show to be "new" to me when I see them next month.

holy crap that man is ripped!

Yes, he is, Maleah, yes he is... To continue this shallow topic  , the tickets that I got for July are directly behind the stage. Most people would be disappointed with that view, but my niece and I are rather looking forward to it. In my nephew's birthday card that I gave him on Sunday, I pasted a pic of Jon from behind. He's kind of bending over and, oh my, what a view. I wrote under it, "I'm looking forward to the Bon Jovi concert. I'm just really sorry that we'll have such a lousy view!" Needless to say, my nephew won't be quite as thrilled with the view as his sister and aunt will be! LOL

For Elton's record 41st show at the Ent Cent the proceedings were quite sober. It was about music, not spectacle. The band was hot and his piano work as dazzling as ever. Some random thoughts:

Davey Johnstone played Takamines when he played acoustic, and he played banjo on Honky Cat.

I've always been bored to tears by Levon but last night was perhaps the best performance of it I've ever seen.

The look on his face during our 'karaoke' rendition of the 'la la la' part of Crocodile Rock was priceless. I think he thought we could have done better.

I raced down the front before Bennie & The Jets and had to crane my neck through all the people with their phones (ugh). It was worth it because I believe I got a personal look during I'm Still Standing.

The only surprise was Electricity from Billy Elliot which is playing in Sydney (I'm not sure that I've put it in the correct place in the setlist.

As ever, my favourites are the songs from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - the title track, Funeral, Candle, Bennie and Saturday. I got a T shirt with the title of Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting written like it's on a tattoo.

I envy you, Julie. I haven't had the chance to see Elton. He's on my list!

We got tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd this summer right here in West Bend. LS is hubby's all time favorite band, and yet, somehow he's never seen them.

We'll be seeing them at the HOG (Harley Owner's Group) Festival. Harley Davidson motorcycles are a Milwaukee based company so Harley's are a very big deal here in Wisconsin.

Hubby and I don't own a Harley, I haven't been on one since before I was married. I'm thinking we're going to really stand out in this crowd of motorcycle riders! We've been around HOG owners all of lives, though, and know many personally so I know they'll welcome us as one of their own -even if we're not wearing leather!

Mrs Frey

That's great for you and your hubby, Molly - I'm sure you'll have a great time. It will be a big moment for your hubby!

What you wrote about the HOG Festival reminded me of a 3 and a half hour show I did with my previous band on 22 January 2005 in Cape Town. We performed on the sidewalk (or pavement as we call it here) outside a cafe, which was hosting a Harley Davidson photographic exhibition. The gig turned into something of a street party, although the street wasn't cordoned off. We had buses driving past us playing on the pavement, and the people peered down at us, with varying expressions! It was quite novel to see a 6-piece band playing on a sidewalk in the centre of town!

The guests ended up dancing along the side of the street, and it was a good night, all for a good cause. Proceeds from the exhibition went in aid of muscular dystrophy.

Well while Soda (and my heart) was in Minnesota last night I had a 'date' with Neil Diamond in Dublin. He was only playing for one night. We left the house with an hour and 15 mins to do a 20 minute train ride followed by a 5 minute walk. The powers that be had been encouraging everyone to use public transport as there's no parking at Croke Park where the gig was. So shortly before 7pm we arrived at the station to be told that the next train was at 8:08pm (The gig was to start at 8pm  ). Typical of Dublin. Back into the car with hubby trying to run down every side street he knew to avoid the ferry traffic as well. Eventually we abandoned the car at a city centre fire station and ran the rest of the way. Still we made it with a short while to go.

Considering I bought the tickets less than 2 hours after release last December I was a little disappointed that our seats (in a stand) were very far away from the stage. We could really only see him on the big screens to the left and right of the stage.

Neil came on wearing a black shirt with Black trousers and a charcoal jacket which he wore for most of the evening. He played a black accoustic guitar with a white (mother of pearl?) Diamond as a scratch guard from the sound hole.

The concert was a little slow to start as I think many of the audience weren't as familiar with some of his earlier numbers. I didn't get a chance to compile a set liat but some of his more popular songs that he included were

Solitary Man
Beautiful Noise
I am I said
I'm a Believer
Red Red Wine
Kentucky Woman
I'm a Believer

He had the crowd up on their feet for 'Forever in Blue Jeans' and then while he had the momentum going wisely followed it with 'Sweet Caroline' easily his most popular and well known over here. That of course had everyone singing and 'hands touching hands'. When he had finished it he did the chorus again to rousing applause.

After that he did 'You don't bring me Flowers' with one of the female singers who backed him on other songs (sorry, I didn't catch her name on the intro!!)

Of note as well, he introduced some new songs from his recently released album 'Home before Dark', Pretty Amazing Grace and title track which is a beautiful soft song.

I know he included other songs as well and finished the main show on 'Song Sung Blue' When he came out for an encore he was wearing a red military style jacket (Which made him a lot clearer!) and did 'Cracklin Rosie', and 'America'

All in all it was a very good night. Some miscellaneous observations/ comments:

He played for just under 2 hours, without an interval as there is a planning bye law that gigs in Croke Park must finish by 10:30pm. I guess I take the 3 hr + gigs that the Eagles do for granted! The tickets cost just over €100 each (thats about $150). I definitely feel that the Eagles give a lot more value for money. There's 4 of them and their backing band is a lot better!

When I commented on Neils guitar hubby replied 'I suppose you want to buy it!'

Neil asked for a round of applause for 'The Best Band in the world'. I took a slight liberty and commented 'Nope, they're playing in Minnesota tonight!'

Finally they showed quite a lot of video footage to accompany some of the songs. During the song 'America' they were showing some images that are always associated with the USA. One image that they finished with was that of a soaring Eagle! As there were 2 screens we saw two Eagles! So I suppose you could say that the Eagles were in Croke Park last night!!

This weekend was City Stages, Birmingham's big outdoor music festival. There really wasn't anyone I specifically wanted to see this year, but we always go and we usually discover new music we like. Last night's headliner was The Flaming Lips, a psychedelic rock band from OK City known for flamboyant stage shows, so my concert-going daughter Bamagirl & I went to see them. They were a trip, all right! The show started with the lead singer actually surfing the crowd in a giant "hamster ball." They blew tons of confetti and silly string into the audience, and tossed out about 20 huge beach balls too. When Bamagirl saw the big half-moon video screen behind them, she said, "That is the same kind of screen the Eagles used--but the Eagles did it better!"

Thanks Brooke! You know after I posted this review I read the professional one from the Sunday Independent. Apart from the additional information that the gig was late to start because Neil was suffering from Jet lag, we were nearly identical. The reviewer also commented on how bad the accoustics were in Croke Park. To think there had been talk last October that the Eagles were to have played there in June! I'm nearly glad they didnt!!

But really probably not, GA! After all, acoustics or not, if the Eagles had played Croke Park, we'd have been there, wouldn't we?!

Great review about the Neil Diamond concert, but what a bummer about the public transport arrangements - it's a bit like our experience at the O2, catching the last underground train from the venue and then being dumped at Oxford Circus after midnight with no connections. :x Neil's new album has received a good reception over here.

DonFan, I was tickled to read The Flaming Lips performed at your concert. I lived in Norman Ok before moving to Tennesse and they were extremely popular in our area. They do put on quite a performance. Looks like they are going somewhere. For those of you interested in hearing someone else who is up and coming, I have a great friend in Oklahoma who is just awesome. He has a mySpace page and his name is Dustin Pittsley. He has been performing since he was very young and put out his first album when he was about 14. He's a really talented guy and very nice. I've mentioned in the past that I was involved in the music scene in California years ago and I always love to hear about new performers, so I was excited to hear about TFL, thanks for sharing that DF.

Yes! FP, there are some! Its not the same set list as in Dublin, obviously he 'tweaked' it slightly. He DID do Red Red Wine in Dublin, but I too missed 'Shiloh' which surprised me as it would be popular over here.

The Encore was the same.

That article suggests he WILL be going to Australia, so I hope you make it to see him.

Well, obviousl the most important was Eagles on 20th March in London with MF, GEF and my daughter Laura (Timtot!). It has been reviewed extensively in the Concert Review thread.
June 14th, Neil Diamond in Croke Park Dublin which I believe I have covered elsewhere. Needless to say my heart was elsewhere that night
April 14th Laura and I won tickets to Hal Ketchum in concert in Dublin. There was a M&G also. He was very good, and a lovely man to meet. He told Laura all about his little daughter (Ruby) at the M&G. He was backed up by a very accomplished Irish country singer called Justin McGuirk. And excellent night! The only act other than the Eagles that I've seen live in quite some time is Rascal Flatts. I'm not a huge fan, but I took my nieces to see them. I did go to the CMAs last November and saw quite a few acts perform, even though it really wasn't a concert. My sole reason for going was because the Eagles were performing 'How Long'. Actually, all of my 'concert' budget in recent years has been used to see the Eagles either together or solo. Given the current cost of Eagles tickets these days, I don't expect that this will change much in the foreseeable future.

Hey fellow fans;

I've been waiting patiently for our favorite band to hit Europe again. When "Hell froze over"; I was there in Toronto to see the best band in the world get back into the groove.

Now I am living in Germany and have to hunt and scratch for any information about possible European (German) dates. They've been here twice in 14 years and I have seen them both times; but I can't get enough of them.

Can anyone give me any idea whatsoever if they are ever going to play Europe again? There are not just fans in North America; they pack the stadiums here every time to sold out concerts.

I would really appreciate any insight or help into this situation.

Thanks from across the pond

Hey, once again thanx for all the info. It is nice to see that there are that many caring people out there.

As far as who my favorite is; I guess if I have to put my finger on one of them, then it would be Joe Walsh.

Don't get me wrong of course; Don, Glenn and Tim are great but it is Joes extraordinary voice that sort of makes him my favorite. Coming in 2nd would be Tim and then Don and Glenn come in third respectively. :-)

I guess you could say that I am an OLD fan (with my 44) but I still can't get used to the fact that Don Felder isn't with them anymore. Bums me out really.
The Eagles are still the Eagles; but without him there is a little "something" missing. Who knows; maybe "hell will freeze over" a second time and he would be part of the team again, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Thanks for all the info and keep it up.

Billy Joel - Acer Arena, December 9 2008

http://www.billyjoelfan.com/Concerts/Dates/2008/12-06.shtml

The set list for Brisbane listed here is what we had, minus Sometimes A Fantasy.

He puts on a fantastic show and I always enjoy seeing him. Overall I enjoyed this setlist more than the previous show I saw in 2006 which included songs from An Innocent Man, an album I don't like. I missed Goodnight Saigon, however, which is awesome. He told some very funny stories - after Billy The Kid we had a dissertation on the historical inaccuracies in the lyrics, for instance he wasn't from Wheeling, West Virginia, but Brooklyn, and you could hardly roam east & west of the Rio Grande, but north & south. He said 'and I am not from Oyster Bay. I'm from Hicksville'. Before Scenes From An Italian Restaurant he actually recommended a Neopolitan restaurant in Paddington, an inner Sydney suburb.

Highlights for me were Allentown, which is my favourite song by him, We Didn't Start The Fire (people who deride this as a 'list' miss the point), and a wonderful jazz club, Ray Charles infused New York State Of Mind (it made me realise how much I miss the place, as I have not been there since 1988.

There was one song I didn't know, Christmas In Fallujah, which is similar to LROOE in lyrical content, in which he played electric guitar. I thought it rocked, but it received a muted response. And the crowd singing of Piano Man wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as last time. Still, I had a good time.

I was torn between posting this here, or in "Good for a Laugh."

I needed to pull out my HS Senior Yearbook yesterday for the first time in AGES, because I had been recruited by some other moms to go in to school today and help layout pictures for the 4th grade yearbook. (I had been one of the editors in HS, and I have to say we did an excellent job back then!)

I stumbled across the concert program and ticket from my very first concert right after graduation, a few days before I became legal in 1979. One of my girlfriend's dads dropped a few of us off at Giants Stadium at noon to see Boston, Poco, Todd Rundgren and Utopia, and the Outlaws--so it must have lasted until 8 pm or later. The price of the ticket???? A mere $12.50!! :woah::woah: I had to get out my reading glasses to be sure, but that was it! We saw Billy and Elton a few years ago in Madison Square Garden, and it was tremendous! I had already seen Billy a number of times before, but never Elton. They each played one solo set, and then they played a long set together. We sat in the few rows behind the circular stage featuring the 2 pianos, and it was amazing because they often played to the back--so we very often had the best seats in the house (unexpectedly.) I have to say, that was one of the greatest concerts I have ever been to.

On the other hand, since Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists, his solo concerts also rank among the top. We saw him once on New Year's Eve in his native Long Island, and it was one of the best ways to ring in the New Year ever! His catalogue of songs has so many that I enjoy, and each of the concerts I've seen of his has varied nicely.

Along with being a HUGE fan of the Eagles, i'm also a big fan of stand up comedy. Bill Engvall is my favorite comedian. He is hilarious. I've been to several of his concerts and have gotten to meet him a few times. He's such a sweet heart in person and I could tell right off that he really appreciates his fans. His material is very family friendly and doesn't do anything vulgar. I like the clean comedy but i also enjoy a bit of the blue stuff. Dane Cook is another favorite comedian of mine. Although his material is completely different from Bill's, I still find him to be just as hilarious. I may have the chance to see Dane in concert while i'm Florida. He's gonna be at the same arena in Tampa as the Eagles but only 2 nights later. I hope i get to see Dane in concert. It would complete my Florida trip to not only get to see my family and the Eagles but to also get to see a great comedy show.

I'm with ya PB-LOVE comedy and have seen several comedians. My faves are Carrot Top (I cried thru the whole show from laughing so hard). You have to really pay attention to him because he throws them out so fast! Besides, who can look at the man without laughing before he even opens his mouth? LOVE HIM!!!! I also liked Steven Wright, but you really have to like dry humor to enjoy him. We were also lucky to have been able to see George Carlin about 20 years ago (the night after we were married in fact). He was great-if you like sarcasm, which I hate to admit, I do.

I remember seeing George Carlin on TV when I was a girl (who knows what show??) when he did his weatherman routine, and thinking then how hilarious he was! I also saw him live maybe 15 years ago, and loved it. Not only sarcasm, but intelligent humor...that's what I loved about his comedy. That baseball/football routine--what a classic!

Other than that, the only other famous comic I saw live was Eddie Murphy in 1986, so he was pretty much in his prime. The only problem was that I was a senior vet student on a busy equine rotation that summer-- where we were on call all night, as well as in clinics during the day. I have never been so tired in all of my life! I had the distinction of falling asleep at many an event that summer. Once I fell asleep standing up, leaning against one of the hospital's horse pens, as the clinician and resident were showing my group of senior students how to do some important procedure--NOT a good thing to do!! Anyway, back to Eddie Murphy, known for his obscenity-laden live shows...all I can say is I was probably the only one in the entire audience who snoozed through a good portion of the show! My boyfriend at the time, a younger and well-rested vet student, was unsuccessful in reviving me...but at least did not hold that against me. (He knew he would be suffering the same fate the next year.) So, I have no review to offer of Eddie's brand of comedy...but I bet I liked George Carlin better!

I LOVED George Carlin's Hippy Dippy weather man
"The weather at the airport tomorrow (which is really stupid cuz I dont know anybody who lives at the airport) will be dark, followed by widely scattered light in the morning."
My brother and I had his entire routine memorized, along with Cheech and Chong's Big Bamboo.
I loved Sister Mary Elephant and Sargent Stedenko and the whole "Dave" routine. I knew em all by heart.
My sense of humor tends to run to the irreverent (but not filthy) now days. Sarah Silverman kills me, but I used to have a random punchline generator on my web page a long time ago with Steven Wright quote. I loved the one where he named his Dog "Stay" and drove him crazy. "Come Stay! Fetch Stay!" hehehe

Ticky, that was it! I was trying to remember the part about the weather tonight being dark, etc...but I couldn't recall enough of it to write it down (remember, I was quite young when I saw this on TV). Thanks for reminding me! I thought that was soooo hilarious, and I'm sure still would! I'll have to try to find some of his stuff...I know he has lots of albums.

Oklahoma has LOTS of casinos. They are all Indian casinos. Some are small but the one I work for is one of the biggest in Oklahoma. I really like working in a casino. I get to see so many different people (and some of the same people that are hard-core gamblers and we consider them to be regulars). I don't get to play where I work but i gamble every once in a while at other casinos. I've never been to Vegas but i would love to go some day.

Learn something new every day! All this time I assumed you worked in Vegas! And then, when you started posting in the Sporting threads about the Sooners, I realized you were from OK...but then it still took me awhile to put two and two together. There's a Casino in Conn. that's run by Native Americans, I assume on a reservation but I'm not sure. I've never been there, nor to Atlantic City (surprisingly on the latter); but I have been to Vegas--an adult fantasyland, for sure...it's surreal! I'm not a gambler, but it's amazing to just see the casinos!

It's okay EV, I won't hold it against you  lol. I've actually lived in Oklahoma all my life.

I'm not sure about the indian casinos in other states but here in Oklahoma the casinos are built on tribal land or at least within a certain county of the tribe and not necessarily on a reservation, although some are on a reservation. One of the tribes I belong to has a small casino on their reservation.

Neither one of us is a gambler but we sure did enjoy the shows. The Borgata has becoma a favorite of Tiffanny Twisted and me. It's not Vegas, but it is a great place to see a show. BTW, the Bryan Adams concert was great—he opened with Run To You and ran through all his hits, and he talked & cut up with the crowd, very personable. His voice sounded exactly like it did in the 80s and 90s. The concert hall was a smaller venue so he really interacted with everyone. He even took out a digital camera and took pictures of the crowd taking pictures of him. At one point someone yelled “FREEBIRD!” like they always do at concerts and he actually played about two lines of it! Very funny.

I know, it is kind of strange, isn't it? I have no explanation, really. I have been through AC, or should I say past it, many times to go down the Shore. I suppose the drive there for a concert always seemed so far pre-Eagles, but now it's a drop in the bucket after Worcester! I'm actually more from North-Central Jersey (junction of Morris and Somerset counties), and we have so many concert venues up here and in NYC that we would normally go to first. But, the NYC ones are a hassle, too. So, I am coming around to considering the Borgata, especially after I read your reviews earlier this fall! I actually loved Vegas when I was there! In terms of the gambling in AC, I've always thought it was for the senior citizens that go there by the busload from the towns up here. But, I know AC has done some major rejuvenation, and I'm sure it attracts all ages and styles of people now.

Have you ever tried Hershey Giant Center for concerts? My first time was the Eagles, and I really would consider it again. No traffic, out in the country for the most part, only 2 hrs from me, cheap parking, local yokel restaurants and diners--I may have a new favorite site! They seem to be getting the big names, too!

I've been to Vegas a couple times and since I don't like to gamble, I've basically done just what you did - sight-see and see some shows. It's fun, although if you're not gambling things can get expensive. (I know it seems like it would be the other way around, but folks who don't gamble don't get comp stuff).

Last night I went to David Garrett, the fastest violinist in the world... no clue if you know him. He's half American and half German and lives in New York, so you might know him. He does classical concerts and mixes classical music with rock, pop etc. Yesterday I went to the more rock/classical concert and it was fantastic. Wow, that man can play and he's looking so good and he's so nice :smitten:

I'm not so familiar with classical songs and after looking in the programme I thought I don't know any song. But I was wrong, just don't know the titles. He re-arranged most of them so he has his very own style. He also played his own songs and they were beautiful. For me the most impressive songs were Nothing Else Matter and Thunderstruck  Very, very cool.

After the concert he signed my bag :partytime:it was an amazing night.

First of all the band. Creedence Clearwater Revisited is made up of Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, Stu Cook, John Tristao, Steve Gunner and Tal Morris. Doug Clifford and Stu Cook are original members of the original CCR, the other two being John and Tom Fogarty. Clifford is the drummer, and he's an amazing one! Cook is the Bassist and also incredibly talented. John Tristao is the lead singer and sounds exactly like John Fogarty for most of the songs but adds his own certain edge to the music. Steve Gunner is keyboards, acoustic guitar, percussions and harmonica, MULTI talented man, and Tal Morris is the lead guitar and has played with artists such as John Lee Hooker and Charlie Musslewhite. He's an amazing talent and a true bluesman. Several of the solos he did brought the crowd to a roar.

Okay, so we met at the hotel about 3:30pm and spent some time unpacking and getting cleaned up. We hit the outlet mall about 5:30. We just had enough time to browse a few of our favorites and we had to scoot. We got to the restaurant about 6 and its a good thing we were a little early, they took forever! But the food was good and the view would have been IF it hadnt been night *G*

We got to the Casino about 7:45 and the line was long but moved fast. Our seats were good but a little disappointing in that the had added seating all around us and we were packed in like sardines. The way the venue is set up we would have been better off going for the 1st tier seating. We were ground level but the first tier was a slight rise behind us with tables. We were the fourth row and about 2/3rds the way to the left of the stage and in what must have been the stodgy and old peoples area. The woman directly to my left didnt seem to be having much fun. I was pretty animated but we didnt have much room to move. There were guards on our end but a lot of people got up and danced in the center aisle. THATS when I saw her... MY SISTER IN LAW!!! I guess that's not really impressive unless you know her. She's one of the most reserved people I have ever met. Very formal and somewhat up tight. She was DANCING and SINGING and AIR GUITARING!!!! heheheeh It was great!! We tried to catch up with her later, but she had disappeared.

Back to the concert... They started off with Green River and Lookin Out My Back Door, they were great!! I didnt pay close attention to the order of the songs but I can tell you what they played, but mostly I'll just say, they did all or almost all of the old CCR standards. Notably was Susie Q on which Tal Morris did some serious guitar solos! Grape Vine, Midnight Special and Bad Moon Rising were also exceptional.

John Tristao was a lot of fun. He made jokes and handled his guitar very well *G* I think two elderly ladies (probably in their late 70s) sitting in front of us must have been close family members because he stopped and waved and said hello.

Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, well, lets just say, for a guy who says he's been "in the biz" for about 51 years, he's aged really well! *G* Gotta be those drummers!!
Stu Cook was cookin! he was the voice of the band and was funny and charming and did a couple of pretty impressive solos.

Steve Gunner was on the opposite side of the stage and I didnt get much of an opportunity to watch him, but he did play one mean harmonica.

Now, I gotta tell ya, there were a few people in front of us and to the right who were clapping and one or two in the front row who were dancing on their seats, but for the most part the people around us were very stoic. So when Tal stared into the crowd where we were sitting, apparently at us, and was grinning and nodding and singing towards us, it *looked* as if he was looking at us! I dont know if he was, but I like to think so *G*

Tal was AMAZING!!! Even if you're not impressed with rehashing the old CCR stuff (which *I* Love) go if you get a chance just to watch Tal in action! If it was us he was grinning and singing to, we lost his attention about 3/4ths the way through when a friend of his came in and sat on the other side of the stage. From then on, he was focused over there. Oh well.

I tried taking some pictures with my phone cam (Cliff was using his camera this weekend and wouldnt let me take it :P~ ) but my phone cam isnt great for close ups. I took a few shots off the web site I'll post here so ya'll know who we're talkin about.

The next morning we met up with a bunch of other friends who were at the coast as well for a HUGE breakfast, we shopped a little more and headed home. All in all, the concert, the venue, the ocean and the company made for an awesome weekend!!! Im primed for the Big Show!! or any other show!! Bring em on!! *G*

Maybe Cami can add some stuff I missed?

Tal Morris and Stu Cook ~ WHAT is it about Tal Morris that attracts me so much?.. hmm.. what is it? what could it be? *G*
http://tickypages.com/picturebin/ccr2.jpg

John Tristao ~ Big guy! Big hands, Big feet Big... *G* Axe! (his joke.. not mine..)

I don't know if I can add a lot to Rhonda's review. The concert was a lot of fun and the music was great. I have always loved CCR's music so seeing it performed live was a treat.

Tal Morris was amazing on lead guitar. And I know exactly what it was about him that attracted Rhonda so much *G* He was rather Joe-esque in the the way he handled that guitar and there was even something about his looks that reminded me of someone's favorite Eagle *G*

I was very impressed with how much John Tristao sounded like John Fogarty. Not exactly but so close that the songs sounded pretty much like the originals. He was very entertaining as well. He had an almost, shall we say, pornographic way of handling his guitar. He wore it very low slung and bounced it around a lot... and then there was the whole big man, big feet, big hands, big..... axe routine. It was very funny and his antics kept things light and fun.

I would have to agree with Rhonda that the people around us just did not have high level of enthusiasm plus we were packed in there like sardines. There was even one drunken jerk at the end of the row heckling the band. It would have made it even more fun if we had been surrounded by people that wanted to stand and clap and sing along. I did to some extent, but it felt kind of intimidating in those close quarters when the person next to you obviously got dragged there by his wife and resented it. I didn't let it affect me too much and still had a good time but then I am not necessarily a bouncing screaming maniac even in the right cirumstances.. LOL

Ooh, Loverboy, that does bring back some good memories...though mine do not involve an entire college sports team, unfortunately :-(! In '84, I drove 18 hours nonstop from Ohio to Florida with my vet school roommate and her boyfriend, singing Loverboy's first 2 albums at top volume to stay awake (with some Cars and ZZ Top thrown in as well.) We three were the only freshman vet students (out of 130!) BRAVE enough to take our winter quarter finals early that March ...just so we could head down to Florida for a nation-wide veterinary student convention (read: professional students' Spring Break--we can party with the best of 'em!) For years Tiffanny Twisted and I did not go to concerts. Every extra dollar we had went into our son's education fund. Since he is now a college grad we have started to bust loose.

Starting in the fall of 2006 we started going to concerts again. We went to Vegas and saw Celine Dion, Barry Manilow and Gladys Knight. Two months later we went to see Eric Clapton.

By this time we had seen Farewell I about 50 times and we were chomping at the bit wondering when the Eagles would release their "new album".
In the early spring of 2007 we saw that Don Henley would be appearing at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. We bought our tickets early (they were a little pricey, but worth it) and sat in row 10 center stage. At the time it was one of the best shows I had ever attended.

Being from the Philadelphia area TT and I are both big Hall and Oates fans. We were fortunate enought to get decent seats for the show in row 12, center stage. Another great show.

Next, for my birthday, TT, knowing what a big Clapton fan I am scored 2 fourth row seats for the show. After seeing Clapton up that close I don't think I will ever be able to equal that experience.

That show was in June of 2007. In November of 2007 we saw John Fogarty, again travelling to the Borgata. 2008 was our year in a lot of ways. The Eagles came to the Philadelphia area not once, not twice but three times! And we went to all three shows and sat in GREAT seats for all three.

The first was July 14, 2008. It was at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Not wanting to leave getting a good seat to chance, I ponied up the bucks and bought all access tickets. It was a big dent to teh wallet. However it turned out to be on of the most memorable shows I ever attended. Two encores and over 3 hours. It got out so late I missed the last train out of Philadelphia. TT and I pooled our remaining funds and made an agreement with a cabbie for a ride to Valley Forge at a cost of $75 including tip. It was what I like to call our "excellent concert adventure."

Three nights later we did it again at the Borgata. Getting these tickets was just luck. And a reminder some good can come out of a bad experience. Earlier in the year TT and I had tried to attend the Joe Walsh show at the Borgata. Some ticket sales person put her (TT) on hold and by the time the sales person got back to us the good seats were gone. TT complained to the Borgata management and they asked us what other show we would like to attend. They read us a list that included the Eagles...what, say that again? It had not been announced at the time she complained. We got two seats in row 11 and had a great time I've already documented elsewhere on this site.

It got kind of quiet after that. Then we heard the Eagles were coming back again. We tried to get good tickets again but this tim our luck ran out...or so you would think.

Two weeks before the Nov. 25, 2008 Philadelphia Wachovia concert, we settled in for a quiet night at home. TT suggested we watch Farewell I again. While sitting there, sipping wine and munching cheese, I opened my laptop and checked out Eagles tickets. I got lucky again. The tickets normally reserved for the band and their guests were just released. I got 2 tickets 7th row center stage. This time I drove to the Wachovia to save the $75 cab fare.

Right now we are sitting on 2 Hall and Oates tickets at the Borgata in March of 2009. I am not a millionaire. We decided not to take any vacations while in this concert mode. I must admit it is kind of nice. It is like having a bunch of vacation days spread out through out the year.

These concert experiences led me to the Border when I went web surfing looking for concert reviews. From what I've read a lot of people here are just like us. We're big Eagles fans, but like a lot of you we also like Eric Clapton and John Fogarty. She'll probably kill me for posting this but TT also has a "thing" for Daryl Hall. She's really ino the blonde hair blue-eyed soul thing. I hope I'm not making Messrs Frey, Henley, Schmidt and Walsh jealous by revealing this little tid-bit here.

Great stories, JAHH. I saw Clapton at a charity gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London a few years ago... It was fantastic. Numerous other singers were there too, including Pavarotti. I feel quite privileged to have seen them, especially as the latter is no longer with us. If only Clapton could have been on stage or a bit longer!

I know what you mean about the feeling of taking 'mini vacations' - it's great to have shows to look forward to. I'm going to see The Eagles (for the first time) in July, and I've also got tickets for Jackson Browne in May. On top of that, James Taylor is coming to my home town in June - and I'm still holding out on a Bob Dylan show at the O2. I don't know where all these dates have suddenly come from, but I'm certainly not complaining! 2009 is looking to be a fantastic year, gig-wise.

I know this won't be of interest to many people but after I see Eric Clapton in March we're both going to see Dweezil Zappa play his father's music for the second time. We have second row seats. He is a good guitarist but he isn't his father, that's for sure. Frank was my husband's hero. He has every last thing he ever recorded. I like a lot of it but I steer clear of the really long jazzy stuff.

FP--My son will be very impressed to hear that I know someone who will be seeing Dweezil do his fathers stuff. My son is a huge Frank Zappa fan. I just bought him a piece of Zappa vinyl last week at the record show we went to.

Side note: Dillon has had a poster of Frank Zappa on his wall for years of him setting on the toilet with his pants around his ankles. Both my kids have tried for years to get me to frame that poster and hang it in the bathroom above the toilet. :hilarious:

This is easy to answer!
I have visited in 2007 a Genesis concert!
Then the eagle concert in July will be my second one!
What I am glad already very much about, I can hardly wait for it.

I listed a bunch of concerts in an earlier post but there is one I forgot. Last year for our 26th anniversary TT and I went to Atlantici City for a couple of nights. We stayed at the Tropicana. They had a band in the house called Yesterday. Yesterday is a Beatles tribute band. Thy were great. They even had a left handed bass player who looked a lot like Sir Paul. If they ever come your way you should make it a point to check them out...I highly recommend them.

I'm all kinds of excited! We have the Thorogood tickets for later this month and then of course the Eagles concert in March and this weekend we are going to get tickets for Styx and Kansas for a week after the Eagles concert. After not going to concerts for years, I sure have been making up for it this past 6 months! And the best thing about the Styx/Kansas show---Don't have to deal with Ticketmaster!!:p

My most recent 1/28/09~~the Eagles. I took a roadtrip to Nashville and Birmingham to see Def Leppard/Joan Jett 8/1/08 and 8/2/08. Then before that I took a "hard-rocking" roadtrip down to Miami to see P.O.D.(Hard Rock Cafe) and Def Leppard/Styx/REO Speedwagon(Hard Rock Live) the weekend of 3/28/08-3/29/08. P.O.D. and Def Leppard are two of my other favorite bands so to see them both back to back was unbelievable. Also saw StorySide B and Skillet last summer(separate). And previous to that saw StorySide B and Skillet(together) in 11/07 and Megadeth(another favorite band) on 10/4/07 at the House Of Blues, Orlando. Would really love to see Elton John in March but hasn't worked out yet.

Went and saw George Thorogood last night at the Blue Chip Casino. He sure puts on a great show -especially if you love the blues!!! He is still as awesome as ever and quite the showman!

Setlists-as far as I can remember it anyways!

Rock Party
Who Do You Love
Hello Josephine
Night Time
I Drink Alone
1 Bourbon 1 Scotch 1 Beer
Cocaine Blues=>George dedicated it to Johnny Cash.
Love Doctor
I Got My Eyes On You
Haircut
Bad To The Bone
Move It On Over

Encore 1:
I'm Ready
You Talk To Much

Encore 2:
Madison Blues

Then he collapses on the floor like he's exhausted and finally they help him off stage. He came back out and shook hands with anyone who wanted to shake and really plays up the crowd.

All in all a great show and worth every dollar if you get a chance to see him.

Before hand, we all went out for a Mexican dinner and then decided to hit the slots for a half hour or so before the show. I came out $32.00 ahead and Larry broke even so that paid for our dinner anyways. That never happens for us so that was cool.

BTW--Mike---You will be happy to know that I paid close attention last night to his beautiful guitars, something I probably never would have done before reading your stuff on this board. I still don't understand the difference between guitars but I did know that these kind of guitars are mainly used to play the blues because you told me so. See I am listening! :hilarious:
He started out with this one...

And then used this one ...

and then did the last encore with a similar one in wood grain but I can't find a picture of it.

TBF - Sounds like it was a great show!! I saw part of a Thorogood performance at Milwaukee's Summerfest in 2002. Too funny about his 'James Brown act' -- maybe his exhaustion was due at least in part to handling those big Gibsons he plays... Speaking of, thats a beautiful white Gibson in that great pic you posted.

FFL - I used to be a big Megadeth fan, and I still love DF and have always wanted to see them live ... hopefully one year soon....

So far this summer I'm looking forward to seeing a outdoor show featuring Reo Speedwagon, Styx, and 38 Special. I saw REO a couple years ago and they were great; this will be my first time seeing the others -- can't wait!!

LWKUA, I've seen REO, Styx and 38 Special in the past (way-y-y--y past!) In fact, since REO is from my neck of the woods, I've seen them many times before, but I'd love to see these bands again.

I went to see one of my very favorite singer/songwriters last night, Shawn Mullins. Many of you may never have heard of him, but he is a fantastic writer and singer, and definitely worth checking out!
Shawn had a hit song in the 90's called "Lullabye", which many of you may have heard on the radio back then. Since then, he has written so many great songs-I loved every minute of the show yesterday! To top it off, he stayed afterwards to sign autographs and chat-what a warm, friendly guy-a true gentleman!

Zappa Plays Zappa - April 14, Sydney

This was our second ZPZ show after seeing them in 2007 so I pretty much knew what to expect. The setlist, however, was entirely different (and it gets changed at every venue:

Set 1: The Purple Lagoon, Imaginary Diseases, Magic Fingers, Tell Me You Love Me, Peaches En Regalia, Dirty Love, Montana, Village Of The Sun, Echidna's Arf, Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?

Set 2: The Mammy Anthem, Pygmy Twylyte, Don't Eat The Yellow Snow, St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast, Father O Blivion, Bamboozled By Love*, King Kong, Cosmik Debris, I'm The Slime, Willie The Pimp, Apostrophe

Dweezil wore a black T shirt and jeans. No further comment. :applause:

I think there were more crowd pleasers than last time. Before the classic Peaches En Regalia Dweezil told us they had won the Best Rock Instrumental Grammy for it this year! Ironic that I get to see this, and not the track which won Best POP Instrumental. He didn't have a guest singer and most of what vocals there were were done by Sheila Gonzalez, the keyboards/sax player, and Joe Travers, the drummer.

Dweezil only played two guitars - a Gibson SG & a Strat. And he can play them. He is awesome to watch and yet I'm informed that he isn't in his father's class. The band was extremely tight. Some spontaneity happened in the second set when a couple of rabid fans were allowed on stage and started dancing ad moving around - they knew every word and every note and I am not sure that this wasn't pre planned. Also a kid of about 6 who we had seen before the show, who his dad told us 'knew the lot' came down the front, and Dweezil took him up and put the guitar in front of him as if he were playing it. It was so cute.

I don't know how good it is for Dweezil's own career to only play his father's music but if it takes it to a wider audience it must be good, I suppose. The songs I enjoyed the most are highlighted above. What a relief to get Don't Eat The Yellow Snow.

You got it PM. To finally hear those lines was an experience, even if it wasn't Frank singing them. (Don't Eat The Yellow Snow is from the Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation album).

I am a convert because of my husband. I am nowhere near in the same class as he is. I might take advantage of the new iPod Recommendations topic to list a couple of Zappa tracks that I like. In the meantime if anyone had the slightest interest in checking out FZ's massive ouevre I would start with the following:

Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation (see above)
Sheikh Yerbouti
Broadway The Hard Way
You Are What You Is

I've got 263 FZ tracks on my iPod and that is barely scratching the surface.

FP---I do wish my son could meet you and your husband --He would be in awe of you-and would listen to you for hours if you would talk to him about Zappa. He LOVES the guy and doesn't get a chance to talk to other Zappa fans often! He has ALL his albums downloaded on his Zune (and I forgot how many hundreds he told me there were).

Another thing, I don't remember if I told this story already--in my son's room is a poster of Frank Zappa sitting on the toilet with his pants down around his ankles. Dillon has tried for years to try to get me to frame it and hang it in the bathroom downstairs. Ain't happening. I have a feeling that poster will be hanging in his dorm room come fall.

I was all set to say that this show was one of the greatest I'd ever experienced until I read the review in the newspaper which said that Garfunkel could no longer hit the high notes. Well, no, he can't, if I am honest. His high register was very reedy and breathy. He tried his best but sometimes the majesty of the harmonies wasn't there. It was left to Simon to provide the vocal highlights - the verse he sang in Bridge Over Troubled Water was easily the best part of the song.

Where I have a question mark for the 16th song, this was a solo effort by Garfunkel which he wrote himself. I think it was actually called There You Were but I will have to investigate this further.

A spooky thing happened on my way out to the show in the train. My iPod played For Emily.... and I thought 'well, this is one song they won't play'. They DID play it. Also, Kathy's Song was sung by Garfunkel whereas on the record Simon sings it.

It was so fabulous to see the two of them after so long (I saw them in 1983) that I wasn't that bothered that there weren't many vocal pyrotechnics. I do think though that it is accurate to say that the show's highlight was an awesome version of Simon's solo hit The Boy In The Bubble. Other highlights for me were The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York, El Condor Pasa and Slip Slidin' Away.

They seemed quite at ease with each other which was good to see. The legacy they have left is immense and I'm glad I got to see them for what was probably the last time.

It's been a while since someone posted here...

The first concert for me this year is David Garrett next week, the master of the violin. He also plays rock songs with the violin, simply great. I remember I have already mentioned him here somewhere.

Then Foreigner end of April in Hamburg and I can't wait to see Kelly Hansen live on stage. He's an outstanding vocalist and since I've heard him singing the Foreigner songs I don't want to hear them with Lou anymore.

No one wants to go with me so I will meet some people from the Foreigner forum to enjoy the concert.

End of May it's KISS time again :partytime: I hope they will be playing a lot of songs from the new album Sonic Boom which I really like.

EF--LOVE LOVE LOVE The Sweet---tho I will always love the original band with Brian Connolly and Mick Tucker who are both deceased now so I will settle for the other 2 Sweets. Yes I said 2--Europe has the Andy Scott Sweet and North America has the Steve Priest Sweet. Andy was the guitarist in the 70s and Steve was the bassist in the 70s.

Andy's Sweet is touring big time over there and Steve's Sweet did some dates here last year and just put out a live album. I personally think both versions are really good. I have a great AS Sweet cd that a friend of mine on the Sweet board who knows them sent me--signed by all the current members and a poster also signed. I treasure them!

Anyways--they played in Augsburg on the 9th and someone from the board who went just posted the pics. Thought you might like to see what you are in for. Didn't know how much you know about the current lineups. Sorry if I told you nothing new.

Here's the link. http://www.sweetlife.dk/1597

Hi all,

This week Foreigner is promoting their new album in Germany. They did 4 acoustic gigs on several radio stations and the stations put up a raffle. Tickets couldn't be bought only 50 people could win each 2 tickets.
Every day you could call the station as soon as they played the new single. No luck for me.

I've never won something like that but I grabbed my chance I took part in that. On their website I had to answer a few questions and sent them in by email. The entire last week was a nightmare LOL Every day I've checked my emails and no message... until Wednesday. And what can I say... I won 2 tickets :partytime:

So on Friday I went with my mom to Hamburg to see them. It was fantastic!!! They played an acoustic set of 10 songs, 3 of them from the new album and they played it for the first time in public. Wow, what a great band! They sounded great especially the singer Kelly Hansen, who has one of the greatest rock voices IMO. They were all in a good mood and I really enjoyed that special evening.

After the concert they took the time to sign everything what people gave them and you could take photos of the band or talk to them. They are very gracious to their fans and so down to earth.

But I wanted more  a photo with Kelly and me  so I had to wait until they finished the autograph session and then I rushed forward and asked Kelly if we can take a photo. And he said: Sure honey, come around :thud:
I went behind the table and put my arms around Kelly and Jeff. Kelly was so close it was simply wonderful to feel his beautiful soft hair in my face :smitten:

That night was a real treat. One doesn't get the chance often to enjoy a concert in such a personal atmosphere. A night I will never forget.

Now I'm looking forward to April when I see them again.

If you want to watch the gig you can find it until March 13th here:

You bet, Dreamer  I love acoustic concerts so we can see what a band is really capable of. They said they never did acoustic before so I was curious in which way they would perform the songs. And I was more than happy to hear some new songs especially Fool For You Anyway which is one of my favorites. They did an awesome job on it.

Molly, have you already seen ZZ Top?

Last weekend I went to see Foreigner again. You know I saw them last month for an acoustic gig and they were just great.

But this time the full band and of course they weren't sitting on a barstool. :) The show was loud and wild, especially Kelly Hansen. He climbed on everything what crossed his way and rocked like crazy, nothing could stop him. He jumped off the stage, came to us (I was standing front row), climbed on the barrier, the security ready to catch him in case, we grabbed his legs and he made his way along the front row balancing on this small barrier, shaking hands and encouraging the crowd to raise and clap their hands. Not that he needed to because the crowd were thrilled anyway  It was so cool.

http://www.oldie95.de/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/oldie95/bilder-videos/events/2010/springtime-rock-festival-2010/multi-upload-images/015-foreigner/2579126-1-ger-DE/015-Foreigner_image_611x464.jpg

The drum solo of Brian Tichy was fantastic, he tossed one of his drum sticks and catched it right in that moment he needed it. At the end he tossed both drum sticks into the crowd and continued to play only with his hands and fists, awesome.

It was one hell of a rock show. If you like their old songs, which sound more like new songs in some way with Kelly singing them and if you like their new album go see them if you can, you won't regret it. The best what could happened to the band is Kelly, a brilliant vocalist and the best rock voice I've ever heard live. Mick Jones did some great guitar solos and Jeff Pilson on bass and Thommy Gimbel on sax and guitar were awesome and it was just great to see all of them having so much fun.

I have only one thing to complain... they really should play more songs off the new album. Sadly they did only two, Can't Slow Down and When It Comes To Love. And there are definitely more new songs which are worth to play live. But you know about that "problem" (thinking about the Eagles). ;)

Foreigner were the headliner, in total there were 5 bands who played that night.

Saga:
Don't need to see them again, the new singer is awful. His "performance" was lame, they really need to look for another frontman. The crowd almost fell asleep and no one screamed for an encore.

The Sweet:
They put up a great show, Ballroom Blitz, Fox On The Run, Blockbuster. The crowd was more than happy after Saga I can tell you. Andy Scott's hair looks like 35 or 40 years ago LOL And he still can sing. I also liked the singer he fits to the band.

Nazareth:
Better than I thought. I didn't much expect from them but were surprised then. They still have the original singer Dan McCafferty who must be near 70 now but he has still that rough voice what makes the band recognisable. Of course he can't hit the very high notes anymore but that doesn't matter. I always liked their songs Dream On, Love Hurts and This Flight Tonight which is my favorite.

Last but not least... Barclay James Harvest *sigh*
They were just fantastic! Great songs like Hymn, Live Is For Living, Love On The Line only to name a few. I had goosebumps when they entered the stage. There is a particular aura around them I can't really describe, magical. I think there are not so many bands out there who are able to let you forget everything around you. BJH are definitely one of them. I hope I get to see them again but then is has to be only BJH.

Ok, now I'm looking forward to July, the next music festival... guess who the headliner is? Yes, Foreigner LOL. But they have also some other great bands on the list... Gotthard, Golden Earring, D.A.D., Suzie Quatro, Russ Ballard, Axxis, Guru Guru and others.

Oh, long review LOL

Goal this afternoon when I get a chance is to find some Foreigner on YouTube with him. I've actually passed up Foreigner twice because I couldn't imagine them without Lou Gramm. Maybe I should rethink that. Besides-he looks really HOT!! :hilarious:

Actually Michaela, this isn't the usual lead singer. The real lead singer is usually Pete Lincoln (who also plays bass) but he wasn't able to get to the show because of the volcano ash situation. The usual guitar player, Steve Grant, stepped into the part of bass player/lead vocalists and a former Sweet guitarist, Steve Mann, stepped in again to play guitar for this gig.

Did you get all that? :hilarious: Anyways, here's a link to some great pictures from that show!

Willie, to make your decision a little easier you can watch one of the unplugged shows in Germany from March on this website:

http://www.hr-online.de/website/radio/hr1/index.jsp?rubrik=53715&key=standard_document_39116557

The video is available until March 16. To get a bigger video just click on the little button between the volume and time. Actually you can watch it in full screen mode. It's one and a half hour long, at the end there are Q&A, which is very funny. Kelly is just brilliant as always as well as the other guys.
I hope you can access that website from your area.

Saturday night hubby and I got to go see The Marshall Tucker Band in a nearby town. We had always liked their music from the 70's, but weren't huge fans or anything. We have 2 of their first vinyls. Really love the songs Can't You See, Fire On The Mountain, and Take The Highway. The addition of the flute in their music make them very different and cool. Very country, kinda like Charlie Daniels.

It was an outdoor show at a baseball field, so we wrapped up in long johns, jeans, hoodies, coats, umbrellas, and trash bags since rain was in the forecast for the evening. Of course, it did try to rain for a few minutes, but quit and it turned out ok. They played for about an hour and 15 minutes and were very enjoyable.

This is an old video, but you get the idea.

Their opening act was Candi Coburn. She was country rock and really put on a good show, too.

If you get a chance to see either of them, go for it!

Brooke, I love the Marshall Tucker Band. Glad to know they are out on the road-maybe they'll swing nearby -hubby and I haven't seen them yet.

My favorite high school teacher -my art teacher -was always singing -the man has a wonderful voice. He sounds exactly like the singer in the Marshall Tucker Band...dead on like him! I always smile and think of "Johnny B" whenever I hear "Heard it in a Love Song" on the radio.

I saw the MTB a couple of years ago at the Decatur, IL Celebration and the lead singer voice sounded horrible. Near the end of the show he announced that he had recently had surgery on his vocal chords, poor guy. I was wondering how he sounded to you, Brooke. Was he back to normal?

Pm, I didn't really want to say he sounded bad, but yeah, he didn't sound great. It really made me appreciate how wonderful the Eagles sound (and look) these days cause they are around the same ages!

I don't think I've mentioned this on The Border yet, but I saw three concerts while I was in the States. Two Eagles shows - and Al Green! I was given the opportunity to go with Christi's brother and sister, so I jumped at the chance. VIP tickets for free! (Although I would have happily paid to see the man. I love him.)

The concert took place at a small casino in Newkirk, Oklahoma - really close to the Kansas state line. We had a two hour drive to get there, through a lot of back roads - I actually dipped into Kansas very briefly! It was held in a tent outside the casino, and the place was packed. It was a lot of fun. A very lively audience, lots of dancing and singing, very intimate and COMPLETELY different to an Eagles show. ;) It was one of those 'how lucky am I?' moments, just sitting there, waiting for Al Green to come on stage.

He was fantastic. He blasted through a 90-minute setlist, performing loads of his well-known hits (Let's Stay Together, I Can't get Next To You, For The Good Times, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart...) He also did a medley of other motown stuff - My Girl (which reminded me of Glenn!), You Are Everything, Sam Cooke's Wonderful World, etc. It was brilliant. His voice still sounds amazing, and he really seemed to be enjoying himself. He gave out roses to lots of women at the front of the stage, and he had a couple of guys dancing behind him, even when he'd left the stage, who were cool to watch. The whole show was pretty upbeat and feel good, although when he sang For The Good Times, I welled up. It was only the second or third song, and it's one of my favourites. It sounded as beautiful as it does on record.

Anyway, I got a few pics. I also got a video... if I can work out how to upload it, I'll post it here.

ZZ top bill themselves as 3 beards and 3 chords (the drummer who has no beard is named Frank Beard). No, sadly they didn't do "Rough Boy". The didn't no my favorite "Tube Steak Boogie" either. But, being the opening act, they did a somewhat shortened set.

Nancy, I thought of you during Petty's set - he covered Fleetwood Mac's "Oh, Well". He did a really awesome job with it.

That sounds like a great show, Molly. How awesome that you got 4th row seats. How did you manage that? Is Summerfest reserved seating or general admission?

There are several stages at Summerfest ranging in size. All but one are included with general admission. For $15 you can walk around and see as many acts on as many of the general admission stages as you want. This year we strolled in and joined the crowd to see Savoy Brown and before we left for the evening we caught a little bit of Phil Vasser. 2 years ago we saw Heart with general admission.

The largest stage (the Marcus Amphitheatre) is reserved seating (the Eagles played the Marcus in 2002). This year over the 11 day festival besides ZZT and Petty we had Tim McGraw, Eric Clapton/Roger Daltry, Justin Bierber, Usher, Rush, Carrie Underwood, The American Idols, etc.

Last night was Idol night. The Carrie Underwood on the main stage and Danny Gokey on one of the general admission stages.

One of these years, I'm going to take the week off and spend every day at the lakefront just wandering from stage to stage.

When telling people about my Pebble Beach experience, hubby would refer to the other ladies and me as "groupies". I told him we didn't have the same "benefits" that groupies would otherwise be afforded. Thus, GFGWOB (Glenn Frey Groupies w/o benefits).

Went to KISS end of May and it was great. I've been there 2 years ago and was a little worried this time because I've heard Paul Stanley had problems with his voice. I have to say his voice was not on top but I didn't care because they put up a fantastic show. But too bad they only played 3 songs of their last album which is I really love.

Gene Simmons is the better singer anyway and I wished he would sing more songs. He was absolutely great. I can't help myself but I love these guys although Gene and Paul are arrogant and narcissistic as hell LOL

Currently, we plan to see two concerts at the end of August when we go to Vegas. I've already mentioned the Santana concert at the Hard Rock. We've seen Santana on one of our prior trips and he's Definitly worthy of seeing again!

The other concert is one that Verna wants to see. It's at Flamingo I think. Some tribute MoTown concert that everyone is raving about on the Vegas forums.

I'm seeing Robert Plant in two weeks and then later this year going to see Roger Waters doing "The Wall". Hopefully some other concerts in between...

By the way, I saw Neil Young in June. Solo. Just him on stage with guitars and pianos. It was great.

We want to hear all about it, because he should be playing songs from his new album, Band Of Joy.

I really like Chris Daughtry, saw his AOL session performance some time ago and it was great.

I changed my plans... today I'll buy a ticket for Sunday to see TOTO! OMG, I always want to see them but since they broke up in 2008 I thought this dream would never come true. They now came together for one tour in Europe to support Mike Porcaro who is suffering from ALS and today I decided to go to Berlin to see them. :D
It's outside and in a beautiful location called Zitadelle.

I'm so exited!

HA! Ya'll are so funny! Yes - I lourve my classic rock. And the bad thing is I have good seats to these shows/past shows, but my d*&$ camera is sooooo bad. URGH. Or it might be that I don't know how to use it. And I do have the shakey shakey hands.

In Houston at the end of the Eagles show I got up to the stage but I was so shocked and nervous that the guys were RIGHT THERE that my hands were shaking. :smitten:

I mean they were RIGHT THERE. lol that was so funny.

But I'll have my camera and hopefully I can take some pix of "Percy".

Cheers,
Maid

Thank you, Brooke... I had the time of my life !!! It was incredible, one of the best concerts I've ever seen. This is hard to top, really. These boys are real musicians, Steve Lukather is a god on guitar , so is Simon Phillips on the drums. It was great to see Steve Porcaro on the keyboards, he had so much fun and was dancing around the whole time. He left the band 1988 so it was the first time for many fans seeing him on stage with the other guys.
Everyone of the band was smiling, kidding around, you could see the happiness because they played together again after so many years. By far the greatest was to see the chemistry between them... no, I should better say the love they feel for each other :smitten: Unbelievable.
Maybe I should mention I immediately fell in love with Steve Lukather as he took the stage LOL, he's AWESOME. I could not get my eyes from him. ;)

I loved the set list, most of the songs from the era as Joseph Williams joined the band, which was a good decision because he was with them instead of Bobby Kimball who either didn't want to go on tour with them or had other commitments, no one knows it for sure.

Sound was absolutely great, we were 5th row or so, pretty close to the stage. While walking around after the show we saw a few people standing on the left behind the stage. I told my friends to stop because I guessed people were waiting for the guys to come out. And we had luck... David Paich came out, took photos and signed tickets.

I walked over there to hear what he was saying. Most important question was: What happens after this tour? Was that it? And he said they are enjoying the tour so very much that they will probably do this again. Not an extended tour but a few dates now and then. I was very happy to hear this. :partytime:
BTW, people came from all over the world... USA, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Holland, East Europe, unbelievable.

I found some videos. Quality is good, but not great.

Loved the funky guitar playing from Steve.

And Home Of The Brave, one of my favorite songs:

EF--figured you would love it because I know you're a huge fan of theirs. My favorite Toto song has always been Georgy Porgy, It was always so very different from what was on the radio at the time.

I love that song too, TBF. My favorites are most these songs, which were not on the radio constantly... like Til The End, Home Of The Brave and Lea to name a few.

I have to post this... I almost fell off chair when I read it LOL I couldn't resist because usually it's mostly the same what people post there: great concert/please come to... bla bla bla. And it's true!
