Here's another one I like that I wasn't familiar with until just before the concert. It was on his 2008 Time The Conqueror album and it's called Off Of Wonderland. At the show he explained that Wonderland was the name of a street in Laurel Canyon. This is not from my show but listen to the intro as he explains life in Laurel Canyon back in 'the day'.

I love his Time The Conqueror album! Off Of Wonderland was one of my Mum's favourites from the concert. I also love The Drums Of War, Going Down To Cuba, Just Say Yeah, and Giving That Heaven Away. GREAT album.

Nancy - you might turn into a huge fan after you've seen him live!

Stars posted this on Nov.9, 2009 in her review of the solo acoustic show she saw.

Someone also called out for "Freebird", and surprisingly Jackson did it, and it sounded great on acoustic guitar.

There's always one in every crowd, isn't there? This isn't from Carla's show, but watch the look on JB's face when someone calls out for Freebird.

So cool! One of the things I loved about Jackson's show was the free 'n' easy feel of it. Someone yelled out Jamaica Say You Will and he changed what he was going to do to play it. He made a joke of it later by saying "Don't think I'm just gonna stand here and do whatever you want me to!" But it's clear he likes that audience participation and the spontaneous side of things.

That's one of my new favorites too! When he did it at our show it was complete, but here he is performing it when not only is it not finished - it doesn't even have a title! Can you imagine the Eagles doing something like that? BTW, he wrote this song for his girlfriend. At our show he told the story that when they got together they wanted to keep it light and fun, no pressure, right? So she jokingly said to him, "I'll take you for 10 years, then we'll see." He said he wrote this song in their "re-negotiating phase". :hilarious: You'll have to double click on it to watch it.

I re-read this whole thread yesterday and was startled by Troub's sentiments after she saw JB, posted on May 21, 2009.

I've just got home after the JB concert and, um... Don who?

OK, obviously I'm kidding, but wow, that man puts on an incredible show!

I get it. That's me. Everybody else is taking a back seat to this guy right now. Granted, you have to know and like his music, but his show stays with you for a long, long while. It didn't hurt that I had such a good seat either.

LOL! When I started reading your post, I had one of those "Oh no, what did I say...?" moments.

But you're right. Jackson is such an incredible vocalist and his warmth and humility just tugged at my heartstrings during the show. His songs are so beautiful and filled with such longing and passion. He seems like such a sensitive, romantic, humourous guy. I don't blame you one bit for how you're feeling right now!

Once again, I'm thrilled you had the chance to see JB, and that you had such fantastic seats. Being that close must have been extra special.

Just what every woman wants, right? :inlove:

Something I forgot to mention from the show that was humorous. Jackson is very green, right? And so he makes a big deal of the fact that the band no longer uses plastic water bottles, but rather they carry their own stainless steel water bottles with them and just refill them. At one point during the second half of the show, without saying a word JB simply held up his SS water bottle and then drank from it. I started to applaud with the rest of the crowd but realized I had to put down my plastic water bottle first!

Jackson just announced another Solo Acoustical tour this week for all you Jackson Browne fans. If you saw his last solo acoustical show, then you know how great it was and will be. The only dates so far are in California and one in Phoenix. Got front row for his show on March 5th at the Pechanga Casino. Great place to see bands as security leaves everyone be and they let everyone go to the stage and no barriers at the stage.

Watch his web-site for pre-sales as, like Dylan, he sets aside some primo pre-sale seats-for free for those who watch his site religiously. I missed out on the start of the Pechanga presale but lucked out on the regular on-sale as I know how to access ticketing via their calendar view web-page, as opposed to their events currently on/upcoming events sale page. They sell tickets ten minutes sooner on the calendar page if anyone ever wants to buy tickets for other events at the venue.

Can't wait.:partytime:

Thanks for the info CL. It's great that you got tickets. I would love to see him again. (I would actually love to stalk him!)

Troub, I forgot that I never responded to that last video, Sky Blue and Black. It's a beautiful song, one of Hubby's favorites. I like that he explains the song at the beginning. I wish Jackson would put out some kind of book about his songs, how he wrote them and what meaning he puts to them. I know the DVD Going Home has a lot of that and I love it. I would like to hear his thoughts on every single song he's written. I admit some of his songs, although I love them, I can't figure out their meaning.

I got Solo Acoustic Vol. 1 from Hubby for Christmas. We put it on while sitting in front of the fireplace and I've got to tell you, the intimate feel of this album is amazing. It felt and sounded like JB was in our living room playing just for us. While I still prefer him doing his songs with his band, this is a very warm and cozy way to hear the same songs, and he gives a little intro to them as well. A must have for the Jackson Browne fan!

BTW, I'm hoping he will extend his west coast solo tour to the rest of the U.S. I want to see him again!

PM, I absolutely love Jackson's solo acoustic albums! That is my favorite way to see him in concert-just him and those acoustic guitars, and his keyboard now and then. That is where I saw the Eagles, but the venue where Jackson is performing is a whole lot easier to get to than the outdoor site where the Eagles played. Kay, I'll definitely post the setlist & info about the concert as soon as I can afterward. Glad you will get to see Jackson too. I will have to take notes to remember the songs. At least at this show I will be able to take my eyes off the stage for a few seconds to write them down, something I wasn't willing to do at Eagles & PoT concerts! The press release for the tour stated that there was no set setlist & that each show would be different.

I could have gotten seats front row centre if I had been able place my order the first day of the presale when I logged on to check it out! :-( Harold would't sit in the front row anyway. The site where I purchased the tickets stated that the seats would be assigned on a first come, first served basis, ie. best seats being assigned first. It gave the option to pick other seats if you weren't satisfied with the ones assigned to you.

I'll have to start listening to more of Jackson's music as I am only familiar with a small portion of it. :partytime:

I was thinking that Bonnie Raitt isn't the only one with long red hair (although mine isn't quite as spectacular as hers....) so that makes me eligible to stand exactly where she's standing! :thud::fainted:

(I did have a front row seat for Mr Browne back in 1986, you know).

So, Pm, did you buy from a broker for just get lucky with those?

For the Horseshoe Casino show in Hammond, IN I noticed that Ticketmaster said presale through the venue, so I called the casino's box office the second day of the presale (I messed up and didn't call on the first day.) The lady told me that I could buy tickets right then. Now I had just been home for lunch and was on the Live Nation site and could see through their interactive seating chart that there were two second row center seats available. I asked her if there was anything available in the front row and she told me no, but there were two seats available in the second row. Having just seen the chart I remembered that the second row seats were seats 9 and 10. I asked her if those were the ones available. When she said yes and for face value I jumped on them. You should have seen me running back to my purse to grab my credit card. And I was at work! :hilarious:

That was the luckiest ticket purchace I have ever made.

Now, for the Peoria show it says on TM that there is a presale through the venue starting this Friday at 10:00 AM and ending at 10:00 PM the same day. Regular tickets go on sale through TM starting Saturday at 10:00 AM. My plan is to call the venue tomorrow and do a little fishing about prices and such and then to call the venue promptly at 10:00 Friday morning. And I advise anybody going to the Peoria show to do the same!

The way I understand it there are 3 rows in the orchestra pit, then starts main floor seating with row A, but I think the center seats in row A are reserved for the Guacamole Fund ticket buyers. So I am very happy with row B center!

From the book Classic Rock Stories by Tim Morse....

Pg. 37 Re: Delta, David Crosby says: "I had been fooling around with a phrase that had been in my head for some time, it had come from nowhere, as lyrics and phrases often do. I was telling it to Jackson Browne, who had come to visit with an expression on his face and a look in his eyes that meant worry-unexpressed, but palpable. To his credit, Jackson didn't dwell on it, he brought a strong, untainted energy with him, a pure creative force that's part of him. I mentioned the lines that had intrigued me. Jackson was excited and encouraging at the same time. They were embryonic lyrics, but he saw the promise in them or sensed the need in me to bring out more than was already there. He ragged me, got me to my feet, dragged my butt out of the house and into a car. He got me to Warren Zevon's house in Montecito, where there was a piano, and once I got going he told me not to get up. I wanted to get up. I wanted to smoke my pipe, and my attention span at that time had the duration and constancy of a drunken butterfly's. But Jackson wouldn't let me up or let me at the pipe. He just stood there, looking over my shoulder, holding me at the bench, forcing me, slowly and painfully, to give birth to the song, not the lyrical fragment or the convenient phrase. The whole song. He kept me into it, threatened to break my arm if I got up (I outweighed him, but he's a wiry guy. Politically a pacifist, creatively he was an implacable fascist). It was an act of love and great caring, he showed concern for me, for my work, for seeing my work done. 'Delta' was the last complete song I wrote for years."

I read this story in DC's book, too. I never knew him and JB were such good friends. There were so many of the artists from that era that were friends. Really, nearly all of those who made it back then, and many that didn't, were friends with each other. What an amazing time and place! :headbang:

How? I tried several times and never got any closer than row O! I was logged in at 10:00.

I was ready a couple of minutes before 10:00 and tried then but it was too early. According to my clock, about 10:03 they opened the presale. I just put the password in and it showed the interactive seating chart with the left half of second row pit available. Hubby called me from work a couple of minutes later (he knew I would be looking) and the pit tix were gone! I saw a very few scattered throughout row D and back, but they too were gone in minutes! My fear is that now they are in the hands of the brokers. :eyebrow: Not fair! I'm so thankful I got mine when I did!

From the book Classic Rock Songs by Tim Morse.

Running On Empty-Jackson Browne says: "This is going to sound silly, but I was always driving around with no gas in the car and that's when I started writing the song. I was sort of humming it, you know. When I was making The Pretender, I put my own personal oil stains on certain streets in Los Angeles. Night after night, I only drove from my house to the studio and back, and it became so familiar it was like walking down a corridor. I never bothered to fill up the tank because-how far was it anyway? Just a few blocks."

Somebody posted a setlist for the Santa Barbara show on the 25th. Sounds like David Crosby was there! It looks like someone is attempting to do one for the 26th too. If so even the first song is different! There's several covers too.

I saw PM's beautiful avatar and had to stop by this thread. I skimmed the lastest review... and I have to say, I highly doubt his vocals were anything less than fabulous!

I can't recall if it was last summer, or the summer before when I saw Jackson. He was, without hesitation, AWESOME! His vocals were as clear and smooth as they were when he was a rising star in the 70's.

I know there are times when he improvises and tosses in extra songs here and there. I find him "real", for lack of a better word. I don't mind if a lyric gets messed up here or there...at least I know they are singing and not lip syncing.

The thing with live performances are, people are in the moment... and those little things don't matter much to me. Live shows allow you to take in more than a song... you take in an expierence, the crowd, the performer, the energy, the sound, the lyrics...

I hope anyone that gets to see Jackson has a wonderful expierence. Even though we were rain drenched and wet, it was one of the best shows I've been to... right up there with Aerosmith, where I couldn't take my eyes off the captivating Steven Tyler and Joe Perry...

Just got around to reading the review. I can see some of the reviewer's points. I guess if you're not a big fan some of those things might be noticeable. But I LOVED what LTL said in her post (Girl, you need to get on here a lot more often!) Jackson endears himself to me because he makes it feel like it's very informal, very casual, as if he's sitting in your living room playing for you and just for the enjoyment of playing. So what if it's not a polished performance? I'm like LTL - give me a performance where the artist is in the moment, especially JB who has a long history of songs and stories to share. And the songs aren't too shabby either.

Oh gosh! Glad nobody nabbed it!

I work with a 25 year old who I wish had our own Louise's sensibilities when it comes to music ;). Several weeks ago I asked her if she had ever heard of Jackson Browne and she hadn't, which didn't really surprise me given the songs she plays for me on her phone . Anyway, yesterday she was doing deposits for a local business while the young guy who usually brings them waited at her teller station. Out of the blue she looked at me and asked him if he'd ever heard of Jackson Browne. He shook his head and she said, "See Cathy, Doug's never heard of him either."
"I didn't say he had." I replied quietly.
"Did he used to be a singer or something?", Doug asked.
"He still is", I responded.
"Does he use a walker to get up onstage?", Doug retorted. Wow, what an attack and I had not even started the conversation! Then he made a feeble joke that the only reason The Rolling Stones played Shea Stadium was because it was handicapped accessible. I just shook my head.

See what I have to put up with? ;)

From the review GL posted:

Jackson Browne was very relaxed, so relaxed he forgot he was in New Brunswick and his set list.

Of course we know that the beauty of this show is that there is no set list. Very informal.

The way to make sensitive music entertaining, other than a James Taylor bore-a-thon, is to have decent backing musicians who carry the music.

Uh oh - now you've gone and made my friend Lou mad!

Yes, Jackson does tour with backing musicians - his band. But not on this tour. I think the reviewer should have waited for one of those tours.

What we got last night was a 70s artist singing his old hits with solo guitar and keyboard. “This is just like me playing at home,” he said “except I can’t get up and make a cheese sandwich.”

See, now I like that. That 'playing for you in your living room' vibe is what I'm looking forward to.

Somehow, Jackson Browne stripped the music of its inner rhythm, the groove. The guy in front of me tried to rock his body to the music on Doctor My Eyes but soon lost the beat because Jackson Browne wasn’t keeping the groove himself.

Anyone who has listened to the Solo Accoustic CDs knows that Jackson does not always stay quite on the beat. He's using artistic license to play his songs more freely.

I understand to a degree what this fan is saying. I'm fairly sure that after seeing JB's solo show I will be able to report back that I enjoy him more with his band. His recorded arrangements of his songs are just too good for me and I'm afraid that I'm going to miss them in this show, just as I miss them when I listen to the Solo Accoustic CDs.

However, at this point I'm a pretty big fan and my love for Jackson supports both types of playing of his songs. I think going to this show knowing what I'm getting beforehand is huge in being prepared for a quiet, simple show.

I read another recent review where the reviewer complained that the audience was disrespectful and took advantage of their ability to shout out requests, and every time poor Jackson opened his mouth to tell a story he got drowned out by the crowd. This is a fear of mine. I like the idea of informal request shout-outs, but perhaps Jackson has created a monster with this laid back atmosphere.

I don't have much time again today but I will comment on the quote below as this happened, if memory serves me correctly, after the first song.

Jackson Browne was very relaxed, so relaxed he forgot he was in New Brunswick and his set list.

When he came on stage to a warm welcome he said that he was glad to be able to play in Moncton & then sang The Barricades of Heaven. He said that it was his first time in Nova Scotia. There were some murmurs from the crowd & somebody corrected him by shouting out " New Brunswick". He said, "but they're so close together on the map". He said he has made other mistakes when he was in somewhere like Iowa. He looked genuinely apologetic & said "but that's really bad though". He continued to apologize for his faux pas. Later in the show he made a point of mentioning that he was in New Brunswick, stressing the words as he said them. The audience laughed. At one point he said something about Halifax & asked for confirmation saying "that is in Nova Scotia, isn't it?" (It is). Then he said maybe he shouldn't mention Halifax, asking if there a rivalry between the two cities.

Sorry, I have to leave. More later.

Back home from my JB concert at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN (about 20 miles from Chicago). Though the concert was great there was one big glaring disappointment which I will get into in a minute.

Hubby and I decided to make a weekend of it and stay overnight. We drove directly to the casino yesterday and had lunch. We then proceeded to lose almost every cent we had brought to gamble with. Actually, Hubby did better than I did at first, but it all ended up the same. Before heading to our hotel to change for the concert we walked up to The Venue, a small theatre located in the casino to check things out. This was probably around 2:30 and the show was to start at 7:30. The doors were closed but there was an attendant nearby so I asked if the sound check could be heard from outside the doors. She told me no, so we headed on out, drove to the hotel and freshened up a bit.

Got back to the casino and decided to sit in one of the bars (this place is huge) and have a drink. Since we had eaten a full lunch, we decided to hit one of the restaurants and have a salad for dinner. One last trip to the restroom and it was time to head into The Venue. Our seats were just as good as I knew they would be - 2nd row, dead center. On stage was a wooden chair with a guitar sitting beside it, a keyboard on the right and 18 more guitars behind them!

7:30 came and went. I looked behind me. There were a LOT of empty seats. I was practically shaking with anticipation. I'd been looking forward to this for so long. 7:45. Now the seats were starting to fill. The lights went down and everybody started applauding. Here we go, I thought...

The Show

Jackson walked out with no introduction and bowed to our applause. He was wearing blue jeans and a gray button down long sleeved shirt with the cuffs rolled to the wrist. He sat down on the chair, picked up the guitar and began playing Barracades Of Heaven, one of my faves. When he finished he began fussing with the cords to his earpieces and asked one of the sound guys on the side of the stage to bring him a clip. When one guy brought him a clip he proceeded to try to attach it himself, a very difficult maneuver as this was behind his head. All the time he was talking to us good naturedly, explaining the benefits of the earpieces. When he couldn't get that clip attached he asked for the one in his dressing room but the other guy was already bringing it out. Ahh, that seemed to work. Jackson joked about this being a high tech show and proceeded into his next song, These Days. Now, Hubby and I had discussed on the trip up which songs we had decided to request. Hubby's choices were Love Needs A Heart from the Running On Empty album or Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate, which is a beautifully moving song from The Pretender, although we laughed as he practiced 'shouting it out'. It can be a tongue twister. For myself, I had decided to use the strategy of picking Looking Into You if he was at the keyboard and The Only Child for when he was playing guitar. I'd make it easy for him.;)

After he finished the second song he mentioned that this tour was one with no set list and that he would be playing whatever he felt like or whatever we wanted. There, that opened the door to start requesting. I made sure though that I did not 'shout out' until somebody else had first. Then Jackson explained the reason for all of the guitars behind him. He said that different guitars were tuned for certain songs, therefore there would not be the need to constantly stop to tune the guitar. I found this interesting, as I had never given tuning a thought, thinking the reason for the multiple guitars was tone (although I'm sure that was also a criteria). He probably only played about six of them during our show.

His third song was Farther On, another one that I love and that based on the past set lists we knew he would do.

But the angels are older
They can see that the sun's setting fast
They look over my shoulder
At the vision of paradise contained in the light of the past
And they lay down beside me
To sleep beside the road till the morning has come
Where they know they will find me
With my map and my faith in the distance
Moving farther on

It was about this time that JB announced that this show would have no intermission "since it's at a casino and all." WHAT???!!! No intermission means a shortened set list! We were devastated, although we kept a happy face. How much shorter would it be? What does being in a casino have to do with it? I continued my request strategy, knowing every time he didn't play them my chances were getting slimmer. Jackson told a few stories before some of his songs, but unfortunately I had already heard these stories from his Solo Accoustic CDs. I wanted to hear different stories about different songs, however I understand why Jackson wouldn't want to talk about something that was very personal to him. He seems to share stories about women he wrote songs for in the past, but not his wives.

Shortly after 9:00 he did The Pretender, thanked us for making him feel welcome and started playing Running On Empty, although he had to stop twice at the beginning because it seemed he couldn't get the chord right. I knew this show was close to the end. He stood, bowed again and left the stage. Fortunately, he doesn't play the waiting game very long before he comes out for his encore. He sat at the keyboard and sang Somebody's Baby. Then he grabbed a guitar, sat down and said, "Well, I can leave you with an upbeat song or we can end this on a depressing note. What's your pleasure?" We all called for something upbeat and he did Take It Easy! It was a sing a long and at one poing he stood up and danced around a little as he played, but he shortly had to sit down because that's where his microphone was. Just before 9:30 it was all over, Jackson once again bowing and then touching his hand to his heart. He walked off stage and the lights came up. It was over - way too soon.

I had been taking set list notes and I counted 17. We got 17 songs to his usual 24-27. :-( As we left all I could think was, at least I get to see him again in a couple of weeks in Peoria, where he should do a full set, including intermission.

BTW, Hubby did get Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate, but he didn't request it - someone else did!

Here's the set list:

I'm bummed for you PM! I'm sure you enjoyed it and all but I wish you would of known it would be a shortened show. Maybe someone who knows more about casino shows (Mike? Jess?) knows why that has anything to do with a shortened set. Were the tickets cheaper? Just curious. Hope it was worth your long drive and overnight stay tho. Keeping my fingers crossed for Peoria!

What you did get sounds great! I love the "no set list" living room feel. To me, that speaks volumes about his talent. He just wants to play and doesn't need all the fluff. I love the "real person" aspect he brings to the stage.

I'm sorry it was a shorted set... I would have been very dissappointed in that too. Hope Peoria is an even better time!

Thanks for your review, Pm! I'm also sorry about the shortened set list. Very disappointing for you. Hopefully, Peoria will be better.

Thanks for the review!

I'm so sorry you had a shortened set, but at least you're getting to see him again.

The reason casino shows are shorter is because they don't want you spending all your time listening to an act. They want you listening to the act, getting in a good mood, and then going out into their casino and gambling. In fact, I believe it's something the casino management is usually very strict about, so even Jackson Browne can't overstay his allotted time.

I have never attended a casino show that lasted even two hours.

Well that makes sense but it's still a bummer!! I will have to remember that. I've only been to one casino concert (George Thorogood) and guess I just figured his show was only that long usually. Thanks for the info.

Yeah - I'm sorry you got a short set too, Cathy. It too bad, but like Soda said, the maximum length of time at any casino show I've ever been too is 90 minutes. And Willie - NO ... the casino show prices are definitely not any cheaper in my experiences.

The one exception for a longer show was Joe's solo show that I went to in Atlantic City. He had an unannounced Bruce Willis as an opening act. They actually brought on Bruce earlier than the announced show time, but when it was all said and done, Joe only played about an hour and 15 minutes like Jackson did. Because of adding Bruce though, the show lasted until around 10:30.

Thanks for the review, Cathy. I'm glad you got to see Jackson, but I can definitely understand your disappointment - you're all geared up for a great evening and then it is all over way too soon. Even great "full length" concerts can whiz by, so I'm sure those 17 songs went by pretty quickly. Don's solo casino shows in Oklahoma were markedly shorter, too - that was the only downside. I'm so glad you're getting to see him again soon, though. Enjoy the memories that you do have, and concentrate on looking forward to Peoria. He's going to start recognising you soon! ;)

Thanks guys. You make me feel better.

Hubby took a handful of pictures that didn't come out well, but here's the best of the bunch just to give you an idea. I didn't find any pics, reviews or videos from the show yesterday and I haven't had a chance to look yet today.

Still haven't found any videos from my show, but these are very representative of it. In fact, these were from an April, 2011 show, but I'm not sure which one.

Notice how he seems to try to do things on the guitar that he's just not able to do. Also notice how he has to struggle a little to hit those high notes. I love him to death, just sayin' he's better with a band behind him IMO.

Forgot to mention in my review that we were so close you could see him spray saliva as he sang, especially with the totally black backdrop.

I agree PM - I think he's probably better with a band backing him.

Wow - I'm impressed. That's just one more thing Jackson seems to have in common with Glenn!

I still would love to see Jackson, but, sadly, it doesn't look like it's in the cards for me this time around.

Cathy, so sorry that you had a shortened show, but glad you had a chance to see Jackson. I know I have always enjoyed his solo acoustic concerts, and I also love seeing him with his band.
Hope you have a great time seeing him in Peoria! Please review that one for us too!
