Too funny, Soda! Thanks for that!

I plan to visit Winslow, AZ on my trip west someday, as well as the Troubadour and the Hotel California. Gotta get my Eagles fix when I go!

Thanks for all the TIE videos, too, Soda. I just noticed in them that Glenn played a black electric guitar (Austin, I'm sure you know what kind it is!) in the first one and then goes back and forth between electric and acoustic guitars in the rest. I had never noticed that before. I think I prefer the sound of the acoustic best and I wonder how he decides which to use and why he changes it up?

I didn't realise he ever did play electric on TIE. Now I do! To my knowledge he has played it with an acoustic guitar since the reunion in 1994. I recognised Old Black in the first video & California Jam; the Seattle guitar was different again.

My ranking of the songs in this game:

1. Take It Easy
2. Hotel California (but it could have been the other way round)
3. Heartache Tonight
4. Tequila Sunrise
5. Waiting In The Weeds
6. Take It To The Limit
7. Seven Bridges Road
8. Best Of My Love

I have to say I agree with Austin's comment about HC being moving. I know what he means. I just can't really explain why.

Here's my list...

1. Hotel California
2. Take It Easy
3. Best Of My Love
4. Take It To The Limit
5. Waiting In The Weeds
6. Seven Bridges Road
7. Heartache Tonight
8. Tequila Sunrise

After I had voted for HC in the last round I went back and read the rules to the game. On page 1 of this game it says, Remember, you're voting for your LEAST favorite, not your favorite. In the Survivor Overview it states, each participant would vote for the song they like the least.

I was incorrectly interpretting the game to be to vote for the best song. As I read the rules I probably should have voted for TIE, as it is my favorite of the two. Oh well....

I phrased it that way to help people understand that you're voting something off in the early rounds and then voting in the last round for something to stay.

I did not phrase it that way in an attempt to dictate the criteria someone should use. I have said many times that people are free to use any criteria they please.

I'm sorry that my wording made you feel you voted "incorrectly." I'll change the wording for the next game in order to make it more clear.

Oh no no no Soda - I didn't mean it that way! I just meant that every time I play one of these Survivor Games my mood seems to fluctuate between favorite song and best song. I finally decided to read what the rules say. I understand that it's okay to vote any way the wind blows you. But the rules do guide one to vote for their favorite. I was just trying to see how I can be more consistant in the way I play.

It can be tricky, deciding how to vote! Part of the fun - and the agony - of the game is making those calls.

Congratulations to Take It Easy!!!

As many of us have said either of these songs would be a very worthy winner and you can make very strong arguments for why either of them should win the game. The only thing that surprised me was that the vote wasn't a little closer. But we have played an All-Star Survivor game twice now, and both times these were the final two songs and both times Take It Easy was the favorite of this group of fans.

As far as Hotel California stirring emotions, I have to say that most of the time when I hear it live, I get very emotional. I think it's just the thought of being there watching one of the best rock and roll bands ever playing one of the best rock and roll song ever does something to me. I really feel that I'm very privileged to be in the auditorium every time I hear it.

And here is my list for what it's worth ...

1. Hotel California/Take It Easy
2. Take It Easy/Hotel California
3. Heartache Tonight
4. Take It To the Limit
5. Tequila Sunrise
6. The Best of My Love
7. Seven Bridges Road
8. Waiting In the Weeds

Brooke, the Black guitar is Glenn's "Old Black" Gibson Les Paul Junior he got from Jackson Browne. Jackson couldn't keep it in tune so he bought a Fender Telecaster and sold the Gibson to Glenn and Glenn had his tech add a 2nd pickup and change the tuning keys to make it hold tune.

The reason he used electric on Take It Easy for awhile because that was Don Felder's suggestion when he joined the band. He said they needed to make Take It Easy more rock and less country and so Don suggested Glenn play the song on an electric. Although I don't know why he used it on the Central Park vid as Felder wasn't in the band at the time but I do have it on an interview where Felder talks about how he wanted the band to make Take It Easy a rockin' electric guitar song and that it was his idea to make it electric.

Felder probably didn't realize they used to do it electric in '72 and just assumed that he was the first person to ever suggest it.

My favorite version of the winning song (HFO). I prefer it to any other version because Walsh injects some rock into it with his 2nd guitar solo and really takes it to another level and rocks it up. Talk about nice licks! They should do this live every time IMO. It really livens up that tune with some nice guitar playing.I have to agree that this is the BEST performance of Take it Easy.
