This is really difficult because I love all four remaining songs, but I think I will have to go for The Last Worthless Evening. The remaining three just have that extra something special, but I absolutely adore LWE. It is sexy and emotive and tender, and it makes me sigh every time I listen to it. This is so hard that on my 2 hr drive to work today I listened to Boys of Summer and Last Worthless Evening over and over again to see if I can pick on of them this round. I know that I do not want to vote for End of the Innocence and Heart of the Matter, so it is between BOS and LWE.

After all of that I think I have to vote for Boys of Summer. I love both songs but as Troubadour says, I just swoon when Don sings "I know you're still afraid to rush into anything, but there's just so many summers, babe, and just so many springs..." sign.....

I agree that all of the songs left are magnificent songs. But as I said earlier, IMHO, The Boys of Summer is a flawless song and the crowning achievement of Don's solo career. Everything good that has ever been said about it is well deserved. It is one of those songs that is timeless and no matter how many times I hear it, I never tire of it. It is just as perfect now as it was when it was first released. I know the term masterpiece can be overused, but in this case, it's definitely applicable - it is superb musically, vocally, and lyrically. My vote won't change in this round no matter what happens so there's no need for me to wait ...

Interesting. I agree with everything said here, except that I would apply these same words directly to The End of the Innocence instead of Boy of Summer. To me, TEOTI deserves that status even more than BOS. I do know that, but to me, I associate the term, "Boys of Summer" to the baseball season. They always play it at the end of the baseball season, so that is the meaning to me. I cannot disconnect from that.

I notice that many of you refer to the video of each song when judging it. I don't like to do that. I like to have my own interpretation of the song, and take the song as it is, only for the song itself, not some directors interpretation of the song or the "literal" meaning of the song.

To say that someone's hair can't fall around someone, because to you it's not physically possible is taking it literally... Besides, if you have really long hair, it can fall all around a guy while you are on the ground....Trust me it is physically possible.

If I'm in the right mood, I get choked up listening to this song. As well-crafted as The Boys of Summer is, it doesn't move me on a deep, fundamental level. The Heart of the Matter does.

Don't know who said it here, but The Boys Of Summer thing reminding of baseball, I don't get that at all. I know that's what they call baseball players (I'm an avid baseball fan) but the words are so different from that. Isn't it funny how songs can mean such different things to different people.

Not that I think I need to make a case for HOTM, I feel obligated to. This song has the same affect on me that Secular Praise does. It can reduce me to tears almost every time and there's been times I've had to shut it off because it tears me up. Not only is it beautifully sung but the words are so meaningful to me, always have been and even more so the last few years. The Christchurch version is just amazing, the way Don's voice cracks in it, it just kills me every time!!!

Every lyric means something to me but these are the lyrics that kill me every time I hear them and reduce me to a pile of goo.....

Several years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Don at a M & G and I told him that The Heart of the Matter was my favorite song of his. He said a lot of people told him that. Well, it is still my very favorite song of his today. He sings it so beautifully and heartfelt. It tears me up when his voice cracks. The lyrics are brilliant. No doubt about it, I want HOTM to win.

As with several others, I strongly felt that The End of the Innocence and Heart of the Matter should have been the last 2 finalists. But, now with Boys of Summer beating out TEOTI for that spot, it makes the final decision much easier. Although I probably would have voted for Heart of the Matter to win, regardless, a strong case could also be made for TEOTI (It is just such an iconic, classic track, further boosted by Bruce Hornsby's elegant piano). But HOTM is such a deep, rich, profound, and emotionally satisfying song, that, it certainly is one of, if not the best, song of Don's career. So, at this stage of the contest, the choice is very clear.

Well, first of all, congratulations to The Heart of the Matter as the winner of our Survivor game - a very worthy winner even if it's not my first choice. There are so many wonderful, excellent songs on this awesome CD, that it's hard for me to comprehend that some of them end up in 5th or 6th place.
