What a lineup of guest they have coming up. For the record, if anyone gets a chance to go to the Kansas show also, DO IT!!! They are amazing in concert!

Now this is good, but I wonder what this means for the purported European tour (I won't mention anything else). Will there be more?

I wondered the same, FP. He'd said maybe West Coast in Sept, that seems like it won't happen. Australia in the end of Sept., and possibly Europe in October. The ones in May were announced about two months previous and this one is over three months. Maybe it's just the way this venue works? But it does make a person wonder. Right now airfare to Tampa is pretty cheap, cheaper than the gas to drive there. But if he announces others in and around the same time and location, I don't want to be stuck with a plane ticket. It would be great if he scheduled something for earlier in the week and I could see him on my birthday again! Or even his...

FP, I'm very definitely going. In spite of the 'ticket situation'. The question is when I'll spring for the airline ticket. There's always a fine line between when you know your travel plans are concrete and when the fares go up. I had to pay a big change fee for the trip to Atlanta less than 24 hrs after buying the ticket because that's when they announced the second show!

As for the 'ticket situation', I called the venue yesterday and spoke with a ticket rep. Like Wolftrap here in Northern VA, those who are members get to buy tickets first. It's not a regular presale where only some seats are open for purchase, here they all are (what's not open already belong to corporate entities or those who buy packages). There are several levels of membership and each level gets a chance to buy before the next level down gets to buy. My friends here in VA have a level three up from the bottom and the best we got for Joe is row U. So when the tickets go on sale to the general public, I don't see there being seats available near the front.

HaHa, the heck with relatives! You know the first thing I did was check to see if there was a Penguins/Lightning game in and around the concert date. There's not...:-(

Well - I don't have any relatives in Florida, but I did check the NFL schedule and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing at home against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Nov. 11. Also, my Dolphins are playing a home game in Miami, and the Redskins have a bye that week. But no matter what - Glenn in Florida in November is better than Christmas in July. I'm so there!!!

I forgot you were a Fish fan, Dreamer. Hmm... Bucs/Chargers. It would be easy to get tickets, but I'd have to think about it. I'd have to cheer for the Bucs, of course. The Steelers play Monday night, so I wouldn't miss that game.

It won't happen for me unfortunately - realistically concerts during term time are not easy to co- ordinate. Anyway I'm still putting my eggs in the 'European Tour' basket and hopefully something will come of that.

We are about to find out just how understanding my boss is! I turned in a very aggressive schedule (the day before this concert was announced) that had a big software release being delivered to the customer on 11/09, same day as I would travel to this event. There were two more scheduled after it, one in Dec and one in Jan. The customer informed us today we would have it all complete and delivered by 11/21. Which means massive effort and overtime between now and then.

I said to my boss afterwards, 'what if one of your employees planned on being in Tampa two weekends before that?' His response? 'There must be an Eagles concert that weekend.' Gotta love it when you get them trained like that! I did set him straight that it was Glenn solo. It doesn't escape me that he didn't answer the question... The plus side is that he didn't say 'no'. Unless he absolutely forbids it (since it's a weekend I'm not sure he could) I'll go but will need to work every waking hour except for concert hours and will need to find a plane that has wifi. The worst part of all this is that there is absolutely no way we can get this done in time

What can I say VA after my little 'situation' with my Boss last May! If its any help to you I know my Delta plane from LA to Atlanta on the way home from Glenn :heart:s Wiltern gig had wireless on it. I hope you can make this without too much hassle.

And speaking of shopping for concert outfits... I wouldn't have a clue what to wear. Okay, it doesn't help that I don't know anything about venues but still... anybody have any suggestions on things that have worked or that you've wished you hadn't worn?

Glennsallnighter

I wore a sundress with a little denim jacket to LA. The jacket spent most of the evening on my chair!

Freypower
10-08-2012, 05:34 PM
I normally wear jeans & tour T shirts. I will be wearing the two After Hours shirts I got in LA in Brisbane & Melbourne. I would like to 'dress up' for the Opera House but I'm not sure what the point of that is. I don't get to dress up these days as I no longer work so buying clothes for this would seem an extravagance especially as I also have to buy flights & hotel rooms. I prefer to be comfortable. The fact is when I go to the Opera House it is by train so you can't dress up anyway.

I can't say there has ever been an outfit I wish I hadn't worn, because as you may have guessed, clothes aren't very important to me these days.

For me, dressing for concerts is dressing for an occasion. Not that I wear formal dresses, but I don't wear old jeans and T-shirts either. The most important thing to me is that it should have some flare... and look good on me, lol.

If I wear jeans, they will be nice ones - no rips, no grunge. I will be wearing nice shoes with them, typically boots or heels - no sneakers/trainers/tennis shoes (heels also make you taller, the better to see over people if standing). The top will have a striking design, color, and/or cut - no T-shirts or old tank tops allowed! If I'm in all black, then I need some striking jewelry. For me, there needs to be something about my outfit that says "I'm going someplace special tonight." These are for the outdoor concerts, typically. Casual with a difference.

Outfits that are good for both indoor and outdoor are slacks or fitted pants (in the American sense, not underwear lol) with a flowing and/or blouse-y top. Tight tops that aren't too casual can also work, but usually are not quite as comfortable, for me anyway. I like to pick something perhaps with a bit of lace or sparkle and with a flattering neckline - again, something that gives it a bit of flare.

I save the skirts and dresses for indoor, typically. If you wear a skirt, make sure it's not too formal. The fabric should be light. Avoid skirts with lining. A good length is typically at the knee or a bit shorter (not shorter than mid-thigh or you might look a little hoochie). My personal favorite indoor concert outfit is a casual sundress. You can dress it up with heels and a bit of jewelry, and look nice without being overdressed. Sometimes at casino shows I'll wear a dress that's a little nicer, but it depends on the casino. Likewise, if I were going to the Sydney Opera House, I would wear a nice dress. Not a formal or anything, but not casual.

That's the way I roll, at least!

BTW, there is definitely one outfit I wish I hadn't worn. I had bought a blue silky top the day prior to a concert which looked great in the mirror in the store. Unfortunately, when I put it on before the concert, it looked awful with the nice jeans I was wearing (the jeans made a visible ridge through the thin material which completely ruined the flow of the top, causing the top to bunch and making me look fat). It was too late to change, though, because I was on a trip and working from a suitcase. I guess the lesson there is to always make sure you try out your outfit as a piece BEFORE it's time to go!

ETA: All bets are off if it's an outdoor festival like JazzFest. You'll be all sweaty and nasty anyway - ripped up jeans and old T-shirts are perfectly fine!

Ok , for me...its always tough...
I dont feel my age but at the same time ....I dont wanna be in a pair of jeans and "just a t-shirt " cause I 'm not 16 any more. Those days are gone.

I always felt like since I was going to a concert , jeans were ok, but like soda says not grungy jeans...
For us a lot of times we wind up at the Borgata on A sat nite and I think people tend to get a little dressy there .

I really like to be comfy..low shoes but not sneaks
Sodas right, a sun dress can be dress up or down.

for me its weird caues I live in scrubs. going out tonight and I am in scrub pants with a long sleeve shirt. I dont think I'm gonna change..takes too much time lol
SO bottome line..you have to be comfy and feel good in what you have on or forget it.
have fun

Ps...one time I went to a church affair in a denim skirt and a v neck tye dye shirt with pretty sandles . I felt great..the clothes were so me...JAHH said" Are youa freeze dried hippy??" ...but the priest said."wow you look great...happy and healthy." SO I guess my point is if you go feeling good about what you have on..it projects and nothing else matters.

I never dress up anyway, so it's always jeans and concert shirts for me. I'm also heavily tattooed and a metalhead. So I always look out of place when I go to Eagles concerts. I wore my Metallica concert shirt to the Borgata. I get a kick out of people staring at me like I don't belong there. And then I sing every song, and that shuts them up. Lol.

Ive always been a dreamer
10-09-2012, 11:41 AM
Well - I'm not a jeans person only because I don't like the way they look on me. Of course, they look great on the Eagles, so I prefer that they wear them even if I don't. If I'm going to an outdoor show, I tend to dress down. I'll usually wear casual pants or capris and a tee shirt. In indoor arenas, I'll wear casual pants or capris and a casual blouse or shirt. However, if it is a casino or theatre, I dress it up a bit more - usually dress pants and a dressier blouse. I broke my foot about 12 years ago and had to have a metal plate surgically inserted, so I can't wear heals of any kind anymore, which is a bomber since I am very short. And since I don't like most dresses without heals, I tend to avoid them.

I've never been big on dressing up for concerts. In my younger days, when I went to several concerts a month, wearing clothes and shoes you cared about was never a good idea. Even at the Revel last month, sitting in the second row, sandals would have been a horrid idea, I had to take my boots to get them professionally cleaned to get off the sticky drinks that spilled from the drunks in the front row.

I did dress up more for Glenn's solo concerts. The type of music and venues seemed to call for it. What I had planned to wear to his concert here in DC got changed at the last minute because of the weather, it was pouring rain. It was an indoor venue, but there was a lot of walking to do and coming home, in order to get to my house, I did have to get out in the rain and move a huge branch off the road! (I always keep extra clothes in my truck, but not my car.) For the ones in NYC and Englewood, because I had to travel for hours, I had to wear something comfortable and that wouldn't wrinkle when sitting in a car or train. With the amount of hours I work, I wasn't about to put too much thought into it, and going shopping is something I consider to be a form of torture (unless it's Home Depot!).

For the Town Hall show in NYC you should have worn a wet suit and flippers! Remember the torrential rain coming back to my house from the train station. Nasty -- but seeing Glenn's first AH solo show made it very worthwhile!

OK. I'm trying to picture his reaction to a wetsuit and flippers. Let alone the rest of the crowd!

I should say that for most concerts I wear tshirts that say Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates, because 80% of the tops I own that are not worn for work are Black and Gold. When I go to Saturday service, I even wear them to church.

Thanks for all the suggestions on outfits. I don't get out often (not counting dog events! :nahnah:) and I want to feel like it's a special occasion and I'm looking pretty, but comfortable too.

Although I'm with VA in that shopping is a form of torture, especially in New Zealand where the choice is really limited unless you have $$$ to spend... I might have to investigate online shopping since I've got a bit of time up my sleeve.

I didn't mean to take this thread off topic, - but if Glenn can make the effort to fly to the other side of the world, I can surely make an effort to look nice at the concert(s)!

Plus, I know Glenn's going to look utterly gorgeous.

Yeah - I'm definitely trying for an upgrade. After VA called to let me know what happened, I called the venue. I got the vibe that some other seats could open up, so I'm crossing my fingers and monitoring the website closely. The Row 6 seat I have now isn't too bad, but it's over to the right side. It would definitely be nice if I could get something a little better.

Well - I'm really psyched ... I got an upgrade alright. I had been checking the website regularly ever since I talked to VA yesterday. And boy did it pay off. This afternoon, 4 front row seats opened up. I grabbed one almost in the center of the row and immediately called Soda so she could grab the two next to me for herself and her sister. :partytime:

There is still a single front row seat available if anyone wants to grab it. I wish all venues would operate like this. They will allow you to upgrade your seat if something better becomes available for a nominal fee of $10. No having to eat a ticket to get a better seat.

Dreamer...... DON'T tempt me like this! If it wasn't for work I'd have my name on it!

Seriously, I'm delighted you all have great seats and I hope you have a brilliant night. Blow Sugar a x for me, and if any of the t-shirts with the turquoise After Hours motif on them (You know, the ones that had the cities for the initial tour) would someone buy me one and I'll sort out the $$ with you?

Thanks everyone - I am very excited about it and can't wait to go in a couple of weeks.

And GA - I'll be glad to pick up a t-shirt for you. Just let me know the size you want. Well, that single front row seat is no longer available, so you don't have to be tempted any longer. I really wish you could make it though. It's funny, as that seat was sitting there unclaimed, I thought of several Borderers who I wanted to grab it for.

It appears that Don has played this venue, and liked it! This quote is on their site (http://www.rutheckerdhall.com/tickets-and-events/venues/ruth-eckerd-hall/):

I'd love to have a t-shirt if somebody wouldn't mind picking one up for me. I'm still waiting for the t-shirt & vinyl LP that I ordered from Glenn's website in August!

sodascouts
10-30-2012, 12:55 AM
GL, have you complained to them? The order might have been lost.

In my own case, I had to contact the LP company because they somehow forgot to ship mine. If I hadn't emailed them, I'd still be waiting. To be fair, though, mine was complimentary (to be clear: not a gift from Glenn, but from the company to thank me for promoting the vinyl) so I guess I can't complain. Since you paid for yours, you have even more reason to make noise.

Yes, I called them. Apparently they were out of the size t-shirt I ordered. That was their story anyway. It was supposed to have been shipped last week, so here's hoping it arrives soon. If not, I'll be on their case!

Thanks, Dreamer, I will PM you later. I'm fighting a cold today.

I hate to say this, but this show is not part of a tour & perhaps there won't be any merchandising.

Glennsallnighter
10-30-2012, 06:07 PM
Quite possible FP. I had thought of that. On the other hand there WERE t-shirts left after LA, so they might decide to see if they can flog them anyway. I just reckoned 'noting venture, nothing get!'

sodascouts
10-30-2012, 07:39 PM
Lindsey Buckingham stuck out old, unsold merchandise on tables for his shows that weren't part of a tour per se. I imagine Glenn will probably do the same. Unfortunately, that means sizes and selection might be limited.

Remember how HH and I upgraded to better seats? Well, they didn't want to send them via email for some reason, so they mailed them to HH's house. And guess who hasn't gotten any mail in a week, since her Post Office is totally shut down and without power? Guess we'll be making some phone calls early next week... Fortunately, the folks at the ticket office at REH are very nice and very understanding, and I'm sure this won't be a problem.

That will only work if I don't need to provide ID, since HH probably won't be going. At least if they're emailed, HH can forward the email to me. But I think they'll ensure it all works out. As I said, they are very nice and helpful people.

There's no way I could even consider going at this point. There are thousands and thousands of people just trying to obtain the minimal necessities and survive. I met a family today with three kids under the age of five who have not had power or heat since last Monday. I was ready to lose it -- and I had hot water and a roof over my head. Can you imagine tryng to keep three children warm and fed in their situation? There are limited resourses for these people. Sorry Glenn. I love you to death, but I think my time would be much better spent helping those who have nothing. Literally nothing.

Hope everything goes as well as it can for you at Breezy Point. I too would love to be going but it was never practical. I'll 'enjoy' Franks retirement instead!

However along with the private gigs and the planned tour of Australis it does show that Glenn  is still happy to be out there touring, and playin and is not likely to hang up the guitar just yet.
