while shopping yesterday:

Henley sweaters (I got some...I really do love this style)
but I almost always thought they were named after Don because he wore them often haha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/songbirdreleased/Eagles%20etc/DonSexandDrugs4_zps5b8552ea.png (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/songbirdreleased/media/Eagles%20etc/DonSexandDrugs4_zps5b8552ea.png.html)

according to wikipedia:

They were so named because this particular style of shirt was the traditional uniform of rowers in the English town of Henley-on-Thames. Some crews still use this style as part of their uniform.

also saw these:

Just got back from a business trip to VT and there was a letter from Walden Woods with Don's name above the return address. It was a 2 page letter outlining all the great things they have been doing, etc. (looking for a donation of course) "signed" by Don. I'm a member because I've been there quite a few times with a cousin that lives not too far from there, and it's a lovely place. They seem to have done a lot of great work there.

After a long day, it was nice to get some mail from Don. LOL

When I got back from FL Sunday, I had the same "signed" letter from Don. I was hoping it was an invite to join them on tour next spring, but alas Don just wants more of my money. At least unlike the concert tickets, this will be tax deductible! :hilarious:

Too funny! If only the WW letter came with a ticket pre-sale code :-)

I was in the subway station yesterday and saw a poster for the new Bradley Cooper movie, American Hustle. In the photo, he has on a gold medallion that looked a lot like those Eagles medallions that the original 4 guys had. I couldn't figure out what the design was on it (I think it was religious), and didn't want to look like a weirdo, staring at Bradley Cooper's chest ;-) Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It makes me laugh at how the most random, non-related things can remind me of the guys.

the faucet handles in my mom's bathroom made me think of them yesterday! haha

the H on the left, the C on the right...I was like...ohh Hotel California!

it's odd how I've never thought of it before...maybe it's because my faucets at home don't have letters on them.

I was playing the new Peggle game on XBox One, and
right before the text bubble popped up, I was like ohh are those eagles? cos they were moving up and down like birds flying...even though they didn't even really look specifically like eagles
then the word bubble popped up, and I was like AHahahaha! YES!

I was stuck in mall traffic during my evening commute and was listening to NKIT on my ipod - I saw a red car trying to pull out into the traffic and was feeling some good will toward mankind, so I gestured to the car to let it go out in front of me and get this-- the license Plate was not a local one, but it was- FREY46! pretty bizarre!

It's weird how sometimes the world synchronizes around you like that. I had a similar experience years ago, but not Eagles-related. I was driving to work one morning listening to Tool's Lateralus and just as the title track came on a car changed lanes in front of me and the license plate read LUCKY93, which isn't a Tool reference exactly, but close enough. ;)

Cool, Hotel California!! I want to see that movie.

So I was just finishing up ROB LOWE'S autobiography - wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but my brother and sister-in-law read it and said it was entertaining and it was, I sort of couldn't put it down. I def. recommend it. especially if you were a teen in the '80s. Anyway, he was talking about The West Wing (forgot he starred in that!), and he said his favorite episode was "Someone's Going to Emergency, Someone's Going to Jail" from the second season. They changed Somebody to Someone, but it sure reminded me of Don! Aaron Sorkin must be a fan.

Yep, bf - I do the same kind of thing all the time.

I was watching our local news a few nights ago, and a local sportscaster took a page out of right out of Chris Berman's book - he was showing the highlights of the Saints/Eagles game and said that the Eagles were going to have a 'heartache tonight' because they were 'already gone'. Of course, I loved it, and thought that I'll be tuning in to that station for all of my local sports news from now on.

I was watching Dogfight (1991 movie starring River Phoenix and Lili Taylor) and there's a scene where she's listening to a Joan Baez record. Silver Dagger is playing, and all of a sudden I was like Whoa..wait a minute...that was a verse from Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies!

I did some research...I was unaware of the history of that song..and all of these little connections...love it!

They even mention the Eagles singing it before Take It Easy on the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Dagger_(song)

So Laura and I were in London over the weekend and we were heading back through a mall to our hotel after the Taylor Swift gig in the O2. We passed a well known UK children's store called 'Mothercare' Laura pointed out it was a shop where 'Mother is half a word'. I was visiting an office yesterday where there are only a few ladies in the office, and several men. One of the ladies was complaining about the toilet tissue not being replaced in the ladies room when needed and then sometimes the tissue not being put on the roll properly. The lady who was talking about this told me that she also sent an email to the other ladies in the office as a friendly reminder about the ladies room!

All I could think of was that old story about Don Henley writing someone a letter about hanging the toilet tissue the wrong way in the bathroom. Too funny...

I take it you're referring to Glenn's song I Did It For Your Love?

did you do it for love?

I mean that's what I was reminded of anyway, but hey FP if it makes you think of that Glenn song then that's okay too! :D

but also to reinforce the Long Run aspect of that email...it's "Do it for Love" from Etsy "Success" aka money in some cases

lol! The infamous toilet paper roll story! Y'know, I gotta say, I now think of Don every time I reach for toilet paper in the bathroom stall and see that the roll is on "wrong." Thanks for that, Don!

Another one we can thank Mr Henley for is....

When we go away I organise a 'Don Henley' bag. It's for the 'Dirty Laundry'

I don't know the Don toilet paper story! haha
what is it?

but I have a "right" way of putting the roll on, and get irked when it's not on correctly haha.

(source: in fact, there's a page (http://currentconfig.com/2005/02/22/essential-life-lesson-1-over-is-right-under-is-wrong/)of diagrams and explanations about this "right" way haha)

if it's the same way as Don, then it will from now on be known as the Henley way haha.

In the 1979 Rolling Stone cover story Don encounters a toilet roll where it has been put on the holder in the 'wrong' way as per your diagram. It annoyed him because the paper design had flowers which he thought should be on the top. He wrote a memo to the cleaner complaining about it.

On the Olympics tonight they did a story on the Russian folk art of nesting dolls. It reminded me that years ago I bought a set of nesting dolls of the Eagles that were on Ebay. It was so unusual and I had to have them! Thank goodness it appeared that no one else wanted them. :)

re the toilet paper, this is just a warning for all of you, should you ever visit me. I do it the wrong way and I'm not changing it!

HB, I saw a story about the nesting dolls a few years ago because someone went to Russia and to a store that sold them. They had several sets of Steeler nesting dolls, all Steelers from the 70's.

When you get your Eagles ones, can you post pics?

I prefer it the "right" way, too - having to reach under the roll makes it harder for me to tear the sheets neatly since I can't see the perforation as well.

I've got Don's back on this! ;)

(Would I write a letter of complaint? Um, no, but still. lol)

02-17-2014, 11:19 AM
Haha! I'm also with Don on this one and just can't figure out why anyone would turn it the other way! You have to fiddle around to find the end if it's upside down.....

Even my hubby agrees with this one, but I'm the only one that ever puts the paper on the holder. He doesn't know how!

Tequila Sunrise

The Long Run

We were sitting at a table by the window that overlooks the sidewalk and t I saw a young guy with his two little kids walking by the restaurant. When the guy got close to us we noticed he was wearing an Eagles Hotel California T shirt!!

It made us smile- and it was so cool to see such a young guy wearing an Eagles T shirt!

Ok so- these events all took place this week while I was traveling in the state of Michigan!

I was on the plane heading to Detroit and I was reading a food/travel magazine and there was a piece about renting a vacation home. No joke- the writer says to make sure you bring your own music with you so you don't get stuck listening to "The Best of Glenn Frey" CD that the owners may leave in the CD collection at the vacation rental (WHAT WOULD BE SO BAD ABOUT THAT?) I shook my head over that one.

Next- I get to the hotel where I was meeting colleagues. I found out one colleague was meeting us later for dinner because she was in ROYAL OAKS visiting a friend for the weekend.

The Next day, I was at the work seminar and met a new manager, who said to me " I am the New Kid in Town" . At that point I felt like I stepped into the Glenn Frey Twilight Zone!

Saw a film advertised on our local tv last night, The Last Ride of the Dalton Gang from 1979. Never heard of it before and the only actor I recognized from the cast was Randy Quaid. Apparently, it is a 'light hearted look' at the Dalton's and how they became horse thieves, bank robbers etc. Somehow I think that quote might explain why I never heard of it! :)

As it happened anyway it wasn't shown due to a rugby match (as it happened my local team who lost:thumbsdown:)

Still the very title reminds me of Don singing '...four rode out and only three came back...' Love his voice on that

While looking at job boards, I saw a company with the slogan "Take IT Easy". I loved the play on words/acronyms, and it made me smile, same as it does any time I hear the words or song.

I was talking to my friend last night and she said she was going out today to the seaside. I asked her where and she said Doolin (in County Clare). It took my best effort not to counter '...they were Doolin, Doolin Dalton, high or low it was the same...'

I'm sure she would have thought me insane and have no idea what I was on about :hilarious:

Anyway, was wondering whether the Doolin Dalton gangs were of Irish descent 'cos they're both Irish names. It wouldn't surprise me - we sent a lot of reprobates to other shores!

Okay, back to reality...kind of...:)

I put this post in a wrong thread yesterday, so here it is again, in a right place this time :-)

On Polish TV there's a beer commercial. Nothing special, you could say. Well, it's a DESPERADOS beer. TEQUILA flavor. :woah:

Over the past few days I was in Philadelphia for work, so my hubby and my dad tagged along to do some sight seeing as they had never been there before.

My Hubby and my dad decided to take a tour of the mint, and of course you have to pass through a metal detector to gain entry. So my dad goes through the metal detector first- no problem.

My husband though, taking change out of his pocket etc, kept setting the metal detector off- three different times! Finally, The police officer finally asked him if he had a money clip in his pocket and lo and behold- guess what money clip he had? His Eagles money clip from the VIP gift package at Columbus show we saw last March!

I got a kick out of the story as they were telling me over dinner that night.
