I think this is funny; if they had worn suits you would have complained.

If they had worn those stuffy business suits, then yeah, I'd have complained about that, too. I expected them to be more stylish. So sue me.

On the other hand, Glenn could have shown up wrapped in a trash bag with a shower cap on and you'd still be gushing about how great he looked.

Not cool that she didn't mention Tim at the beginning. Did anybody know that Timothy has a Native American ancient art collection? It's news to me!

I do seem to recall hearing about Timothy's native artifact collection before ..in one of the articles for FTF or Expando maybe?

ETA: found it! it's mentioned in the 2001 article Wing and a Prayer:

Schmit pulls up a chair in his office. Now 53, he has a youthful glow and mane of brown hair that brushes past his shoulders. American Indian artifacts are positioned around the room, and an impressive seven-times-platinum commemoration for the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" album hangs above a couch.

Tour probably in June! WooHoo!
Ok so you caught that too???
Hubba Hubba happy dance time:yay::yay::yay:

OOh yeah and how DH reconized the reporter from an earlier press confrence and he said"I"m good with faces"

Wonder if that means he remembers VA and HH in the first row????l

Why send an amuture ...?????good question.

dh was actually the funniest part of the interview when he realized he was dealing with a reporter who the "light was on but nobody was home" mentallity (sorry JMO) and yes TBS was so kind and gracious...gentelman.

The Eagles touring in June works out perfectly for me. With Fleetwood Mac touring in the spring, the two won't overlap. Plus, my summer schedule is much lighter. Convenience-wise and finance-wise, this is definitely a boon!

Timothy is such a sweetheart!

OMG. Don made me melt. So sexy! I could literally never talk to him. LOL.

Troub,
Your so right about Timothy, though i can't believe she didn't know who he was especially when she was there to talk to the eagles. :stunned:

Don makes me melt too, but i am beginning to feel for him. :smitten: I remember in interviews his biggest pet peeve was when reporters don't do their homework. Then twice in one day, he got asked the stupidest questions. It makes wonder how they decide who gets to do the interview. Sometimes as a fan it like you sit their and wonder where the heck the reporter gets the info when it so wrong or incomplete. Though I have to say when Don corrected her wrong i spit pop.:hilarious: LOL

Maybe it's better just to stare at the loveliness:drool: LOL

Yes. The difference between you and FP is that she only feels that way about relatively current photos, whereas you feel that way about every photo of Glenn ever taken... but it's all good! I'm sure Glenn wouldn't mind. Heck, if he showed up at my door in a trash bag, I wouldn't turn him away. ;)

Well, I don't think she did a very good job, but she looked pretty young. Why don't they have interviewers that are familiar with the band or are fans of the band doing this stuff. These kids might get a few minutes to come up with some questions, but they really don't know anything about the real band. They need 'seasoned' reporters for this type of thing. jmo!

I didn't even gush about Glenn's appearance. All I have done is post a couple of photos with the word 'sigh' above them which I didn't consider excessive.

For what it's worth the screenshot of him singing TIE in the trailer where he is smiling is very nice indeed. It is true that I don't often comment on 'old' photos. That doesn't mean I don't like them.

The sad thing is Don seemed taken with her at first! Too bad she had to spoil it by opening her mouth.

We have to remember, though, that these people are covering all of the Sundance films and not just the Eagles premiere. A more seasoned person able to ask intelligent questions of the Eagles might fumble the ball when it's time to ask Daniel Radcliffe about career highlights after Harry Potter before the premiere of his indie movie.

Maybe he meant a final tour with a name. Perhaps after that, they'll do what they've been doing the past years. Just go here and there and not give the tour an actual name.

Ive always been a dreamer
01-22-2013, 12:58 PM
Yep - that's what he said alright. I'm not gonna get too excited about a June date yet since these guys can be date-challenged at times. As far as the tour lasting for a couple of years - as Glenn always says, they plan what the band is going to do a year at a time. I guess that's the best approach for them at this stage in their lives and careers. Personally, if they are planning a whole new tour, I'd think they could stretch that out for 3 or 4 years if they want.

But, that is a very interesting comment about the former members joining them. How exciting - maybe Randy would be able to make a few appearances as well. Honestly, I don't hold out much hope for Felder, but you just never know ... anything is possible. It would also be cool if JD, Jackson, Linda Ronstadt, and others that were influential in their success would join them on occasion. Also, some former backup musicians like Joe Vitale, Stan Lynch, and Jay Oliver would be cool.

Its interesting to think about, Don said members so that means at least 2. Getting along with it would probably mean Bernie and Randy but from everything i've heard health wise it would have to be bernie and felder. I think if the Eagles really wanted to surprise their fans they would try fro all 7. :grouphug:I've said for years that would be the concert of the century but gosh that going to put a whole new spin on the whole set list problem. I'm really skeptical about this comment???"Some former members" Wonder exactly what that means? Since Don as yet to even utter Felder's name, it is highly doubtful that he would be invited to play with them, but I think he's the one that most fans want to see up there with them....Would be pretty much a miracle if that happened.

From what's been said about Randy, he is probably not up to it. I have my doubts that he would be able to play...

So that leaves Bernie, who is the most likely ex Eagle to make an appearance with them. So I think it will be just Bernie....& nobody else. Still that would be nice to see!!!

As of the last article I read about Don F, he still hadn't spoken with Don H or Glenn.

I agree with VA, I think that the appearances by former member(s) would only be for a few shows. But how unbelievable is this that it might acctually happen! We had discussed earlier that we would love it if former members took part, but I sure didn't think that it would even be considered by "the powers that be".

Brooke
01-23-2013, 11:03 AM
I agree too that the appearances by former members will probably be random and not all of them at the same time. I really can't imagine Felder even being asked. I wish Randy could, but from what we've heard about him, it's doubtful. Maybe he has good days where he would be able to. We can only hope. This leaves Bernie. But why did Don say members? And whoever it is, they might just come on for a particular song.

I guess we'll have to wait and see!

:hilarious:I spit my Diet Coke out at that one! :hilarious:

I really don't think it will be Randy since we've heard from several sources that he's just not in good health. That being said, I would actually put money on Felder and Leadon for this and like others, only for select shows. I think since they are adults, and it is for a good cause (the fans) that the powers that be can get along long enough to give the fans what they want and that means Felder on stage with the current members. But this is just my guess/opinion. I guess we all wait and see.

I would be absolutely amazed if Felder were to play with them on this tour. The offer of money and exposure changes minds very easily, but that's assuming the Eagles would actually ask him in the first place. From everything I've heard, I just can't see that happening. Felder was interviewed on Inside MusiCast fairly recently and he made numerous pointed comments about only wanting to work with easy-going, laid-back musicians now. He certainly didn't sound like he relished the idea of fitting back into the Eagles' box. I guess though, if it really were a one-off, then he wouldn't feel like he had to "fit back in" as much... I mean, Pink Floyd did it for Live 8. I'm just not convinced about this one. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though!

Houston Debutante
01-23-2013, 01:39 PM
Isn't Felder always talking about 'reaching out' to them and how he wishes they could still be friends or whatever? I bet he'd jump at the chance to get money and attention by appearing at a show.Remember how he begged to be kept in the band, didn't he even threaten suicide? The Eagles don't need him to bring in the crowds but they might do it for old time's sake and to please fans. It would be cool and not only good for Felder but good for Don and Glenn, not because of the money but because it's not good for your heart to hold grudges. Like Don says, 'it's about forgiveness' and 'you keep carrying that anger it'll eat you up inside.'

Also, perhaps with the use of the plural former 'members', maybe he meant the former 'honorary' members, like JD? Maybe they'll have a former member or two in footage from the past and on a screen as they sing along? I hope not, but plenty of performers do that these days. When we saw Celine Dion in Vegas, she did two songs like that. One with Andrea Botecelli (I probably spelled that wrong) and one with herself (she sang the harmony live, the melody pre-recorded).

I once saw Dweezil Zappa play in front of a screen showing his late father playing a guitar solo. At least the Eagles don't have to do that. I think you make a good point - it may be 'honorary members', although Don did use that exact term 'former members'.

I hope that Bernie & Felder will make some guest appearances, but the situation with Felder does not look good. I was hoping to see him at Sundance, but if he was there, I didn't see any pics of him.

I don't think Don meant any "honorary members" I'm actually not too crazy about that idea either.

If they reunite with Felder, Hell would Freeze Over Again, So they can call it, "Hell Freezes Over 2" I personally would love to see it, but it would be kind of awkward with Stu Smith. I mean he's playing Felder's parts these days....

In the extremely unlikely event Felder did appear, I don't think they would wish to emphasise it in that way (Hell Freezes Over 2). However if it did happen, presumably Steuart would leave the stage while Felder was there.

He said it during a red carpet interview.

Calling Souther a 'former member' would be a real stretch. I'd be surprised if that was what he meant. If it's the video scenario, I think a lot of fans might feel let down. I know I would.

I'm not saying they won't use video that way, it would a cool way of connecting then and now, but I don't really think it's what Don meant when he said 'former members'. I can't believe they'd really use old video as a 'stand-in' and especially not say they are involving former members when doing that. With other acts, it would be a strong possibility, but I really can't see our guys doing that.

From this interview, chances of Felder making an appearance are slim:

During the documentary's post-premiere Q&A, Henley and Frey were asked if they have any current contact with former members of the band -- who were all interviewed in the film. Their responses were telling.

Frey mentioned how he liked Meisner and Leadon, but pointedly didn't mention Felder. Henley said he keeps up with Leadon, has no contact with Meisner and would only refer to Felder as "the other guy."

I agree with you, but the reality is if Felder did show up, people would expect to see Felder play his old parts. However, as GTLO says, I think the possibility is extremely remote.

I enjoyed finally being able to watch the press conference, but Tim fans be warned. He speaks ONCE. From my personal viewpoint, it was fun to look at, as you will very quickly understand.

I think of it as the opposite. I think having him up there when he's a great lead player and with no lead to play just strumming along isn't really fair either. And they both (Felder and Stu) can't play at the same time the same parts. :hilarious: I think it would be better to have him up there when he needs to play rather than just being an accompaniment off to the stage strumming along with nothing to play. I think that would be more unfair. And as I said, they both can't play those parts, having two Felder parts and one Walsh part doesn't sound right to me.

I can't speak for him obviously but if I was Stu, I wouldn't be too happy with the notion of standing off to the side just strumming along doing nothing, I'd much rather leave the stage for that time and come back out when I'm needed.

If (and I do mean if) Felder shows up, I think him leaving the stage would be the only option I think. I'm sure he doesn't want to just stand there doing nothing. My guess is that if Felder (or any former member) would play with GF and DH, it'd be for a few select songs and not a whole show and I'd bet you Felder would make an appearance on HC and maybe another song where his solo was the main part (OOTN comes to mind) and that's it. Then Stu would play the rest of the show.

Again, just my guesses/thoughts. I guess we won't know til the tour info becomes more available and things are released.

I'll throw this out here...IF Felder were to be at a show, since it's a 'history' show, maybe he'd play the lead-in bass on OOTN? He wrote it, after all. IMO, that's a big thing in their history. Maybe because it's my favorite Eagles song.

While I totally agree with this, I've learned the hard way that people will be people. Makes us all different and therefore interesting, but if I could wave a wand and make certain people learn about forgiveness I'd start a lot closer to home, so to speak! Seriously, I've taught classes on the subject and IMO, this is one of the hardest things for people, if not the hardest. It takes a lot of work just to get to where you want to forgive someone, and when someone really hits you where it hurts it's a lot harder. There's a lot of people who feel their hurt and anger are justified and don't feel they even need to try to forgive. As Don himself sang, "You keep carryin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside." (Being the passionate Eagles fan I am, I used this song in my Sunday School classes!)

Well, I'm one that would love to see Felder do his parts such as on HC and OOTN, if he would show up. I still don't see that happening. Forgiveness is one thing, but the lawsuit hits below the belt. If Felder was there, I think they would show him off by having him do Hotel California at least, and it would be very silly for Stu to resent that. I mean Stu's great and all but in the end, he's a sideman who is copying Felder's parts. Felder is the original, Felder was the Eagle.

But the more I think about it, the more I realize how unlikely it is that Felder would be included. I guess that means Bernie and Randy are it. Probably just a couple guest appearances.

I do believe in forgiveness & as Don even sings about it, He should heed his own words.

Felder was in The Eagles from 1975-80, 1994-2001, they surely must have had some good times together. Yes, money was a big thing, but you know MONEY ISN"T EVERYTHING.... Isn't Don Henley worth appox. $300 million dollars??? I mean, how much does one person, or family need??? How many homes does someone need, boats, planes, or whatever else he spends it on. Seriously? So Felder got a few million, I guess the judge felt he deserved it...When is DON HENLEY gonna "GET OVER IT"????The lawsuit is long over...It would be a huge treat for the fans to see Don Felder up there playing with them. If Don can't FORGIVE, then maybe he can FORGET..Maybe he should write a song about that!!

CRAP, the fans would really be in for a huge treat if Felder walked on that stage, & Henley knows it!!! WHY can't they do it for US????

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I'm not sure what Don's net worth has to do with any of it? You lost me with that bit of it.

Forgiveness, as I said, is an issue we all struggle with. They don't owe it to the fans to put themselves what they MAY feel will be 'hell', and even if it's something they'd want to do for the fans, I'd hope they'd never attempt it unless they knew they could all see it through to the end without making matters worse. For myself, re-reading what I wrote previously, I want to clarify that forgiveness is an issue I struggle with, in spite of teaching a class on how and why it needs to be done. There are things that have hurt me from decades ago that I still haven't quite forgiven, so I'm not about to point fingers or throw stones at those who may or may not be in the same boat I'm in. These guys are stars that have shined brightly for over 40 years, but they are still human. I know that there have been people who have looked at me and judged me for not forgiving someone...just adds one more hurt to the heap.

Yes, I agree with Sara too. We're putting all of this on the band when we really have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. As I said in my last post, I really don't think that Don Felder has any desire to get back with the Eagles. Of course it would be awesome for all sorts of nostalgic reasons if he did play with them again, but I just don't see it happening. I kind of feel like that ship has sailed.

As I mentioned before, Pink Floyd got back together for Live 8, which pleased a lot of fans, but they were adamant, even after that performance, that they would not tour. David Gilmour said in an interview that, even though Live 8 was incredible and emotional for all of them, there were old issues that started to niggle even during rehearsals. They're grown-ups and they just know that, however much respect they might have for each other as musicians and however much success they have shared in their lives, they are just not compatible on a long-term basis. They all knew that touring together would be a nightmare, no matter how satisfying those few minutes of playing together on stage were. We have to respect that. I feel the same way about the Eagles. Even if they have somewhat forgiven each other (I doubt Don calls up Glenn and bitches about Felder on a regular basis... if ever!), old wounds run deep and sometimes personalities and working methods just cause friction by their very natures. It would be madness to try to make something work in that situation, just because it might make a few hardcore Felder fans happy. Pleasing the fans is obviously something they try to do but, as we know by our set list discussions, you are never going to please everyone. There comes a point where you just stop trying and do what you feel is right and what makes you happy.

I'm just thrilled that this whole thing is happening and I can't wait to see what kind of surprises this tour throws at us. I am just as excited about the possible inclusion of 'honorary' Eagles members as I am about any former members. It will be a fun ride and I'm sure we will feel like we know, and understand, the band on a whole new level after we've seen these films.

Eloquent summing up. I would add that they might have got past the lawsuit if there then hadn't been the book & songs like You Don't Have Me with its line 'empty heart & wicked soul'. Frey & Henley took enough from Felder. To err is human, to forgive divine. Frey & Henley are not divine (though I am aware I sometimes give the impression that I think Glenn is, at least).

I was lucky. I saw Felder on the HFO tour. Therefore it doesn't matter as much to me as it does to some of our members. I have to be honest about that.

Excuse me, but don't you think Felder felt betrayed when he was FIRED from the band, really without any notice! If Henley felt betrayed, I don't get why? What did he expect when they fired Felder? Did they expect him to just say OK, see ya? And just walk? I'm not sure how it got to a lawsuit, but sorry, it was mostly about the MONEY!!! Felder was part of the band since 75, & was in a legal contract with them...

If Don wanted to truely make this a resumption concert or whatever it is he's calling it, "The History of the Eagles Tour" Well, Felder is a big part of that history. Henley opened it all to discussion when he mentioned that "former members" would be involved in the tour. Now hearing a statement like that, people are going to be asking about Felder.

Well TK – I can’t speak for HD here, but I can speak for myself. First of all, I think you would find people here would respond more positively to you if you could make your posts less confrontational when disagreeing about something. It is possible to discuss differences here without being rude. I don’t want to turn this thread into a rehash of Felder’s firing and lawsuit because that is not what’s at issue here. Besides, I think we’ve been there and done that already. The issue here is about what has transpired since then, and, specifically, how the band feels now. I would have to agree with most others here and say that I don’t believe including or excluding Felder in the upcoming tour has anything to do with money – as others have said, it’s about personality clashes. Whether fans like it or not, it just may not be worth the stress for the band to include Felder. We can continue to respectfully discuss it here all we like, but, in the end, the decision is up to the band, not the fans. Even if we don’t like their choice, we have to respect their right to make it.

Well, I don't think my post was rude or confrontational but that is your opinion. Anyway, maybe you misunderstood my post, but I was saying that the original lawsuit was about money, not the upcoming tour. I know that isn't about the money.

There is a lot of Felder bashing on this board by several people & I just feel sometimes that he gets blamed for everything & that some people have said rude & nasty things about him. It just gets me upset, so sometimes I defend him, because very few around here do. Having seen him play with the Eagles, I do know what an awesome addition he was to the band. In any case I didn't mean to offend anyone, just trying to see Felder's side of things.

As for Felder doing the tour, yes I agree, unfortunately, it's not likely to happen. If it does it would be a shock!

OK....we really dont know what happen between those guys...we only have bits and pieces .....I mean TK how do YOU really know??? were you a fly on the wall or present at their discussions??

I have rewatched the HFO video and JMO Fleder comes off as being full of himself and better than the other guys....and lesat we forget it always has been DH and GF's band ....

Yes DH did bring things up about past members....This thread shouldnt be about fleder (there are enough other ones on this board about that man)
I bring this thread up to read the event that is posted here the sundance film felstival-dvd priemier....CAN WE STAY ON POINT TO THAT PLEASE???

I know that DH mentioned "other former members"... I am sure that they will figure out a way to do it harmoniously and stress free for everyone involved in the band ...MAybe by showing film clips behind them somthing cival.

A bit more on point here, I just checked the bidding on the autographed guitar from Sundance and it's up to $8300 I sure wish I had that kind of money to 'play' with. Hopefully the highest bidder won't secret it away somewhere. On the other hand, the proceeds are for a good cause.

I'm just going to address this & then I will drop it, but I feel I'm being personally attacked here, just for having an opinion that you don't agree with....I don't think Felder had a superior attitude on HFO, but that's what I mean about the Felder bashing.

Of course I have no more information about any of it than anyone else around here. I just started this whole thing when Don mentioned having "former members" involved in the upcoming tour...I thought if would be great if DF were included....Hey you never know, stranger things have happened! Whatever they are planning for us, I'm sure it's going to be great.
I can't wait to see the DVD already!!!

I was just looking at the Showtime schedule for my local carrier. When I clicked on the 15th it brought up the listings beginning at midnight and I note that they're running "The Big Lebowski" at 1:35 am! Can't help but wonder if that was scheduling by design. History of the Eagles is listed for 8 p.m. both nights. Have already set up my box to record both nights.

You know, when I was waiting at the indie theater where they were showing the Sound City documentary in Nashville, they did a few promos for upcoming older movies they were showing. One of them was The Big Lebowski. I watched it with a scowl on my face. No matter how funny it may or may not be, I'll always associate it with Eagle haters.

Those contest shows have their flaws but without them, we wouldn't have Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Chris Daughtry. I think what they create outside of the machine is indeed "art" and without AI, it wouldn't have been heard. It's true most of the contestants fail but that's also true of most of the people who try to make it in the music business - and it always has been true.

Isn't it interesting what comes out in press conferences for Sundance? lol

What a poorly edited article the Hollywood Reporter published. "Frey" gets spelled "Fry" half the time and they've left out a word about where Don flew in from.

A pity that Linda Ronstadt declined to be interviewed for the documentary but I can understand it.

I thought it was interesting to hear their take on American Idol. As a long time Idol watcher, I can see Glenn's point. They do encourage the contestants to oversing...to hit those big notes...I agree & I don't like that about the show, but Idol started out a little singing contest & turned into something much bigger. Many of these "kids" & I use that term loosely have been singers for years, & did have some stage experience, but it's a way to get your name & your face out there. I do think some great people came out of the show. Not all were great, but some have made it very big, & some have careers in music, even if they are not huge stars. It's a very different world than when the Eagles started out in the music business.
Strange to ask them about that, but it was something different to hear their opinion of it.

Very interesting to hear their take on it. I guess like everything else, these shows have good and bad points. I don't watch them, for no other reason than I have a short attention span for that type of thing and can't invest myself for all those weeks. But I've seen several very talented people in various Broadway shows in the last few years who have apparently been on AI. I guess even if you don't win, it can create opportunities.

Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, & Jennifer Hudson have had the most success coming off Idol, but many others have appeared on Broadway, movies, have somewhat successful solo careers. I know many have earned over 5 million dollars according to the stats, & you don't even have to win.

ETA: Apparently there's a picture of Don and Niall Horan of One Direction floating around somewhere.

I agree with Glenn... To me, music is NOT a competition and I hate the idea of it being so and judging everyone. Everyone has something to contribute and everyone at least has SOMEONE that is a fan. Same with "Battle of the bands". To me it's just silly but I digress. What one finds not good another will and no, not just their mother. :hilarious:

I don't care for these "talent" shows, be it AI, Voice, America's Got Talent, whatever. It just doesn't do anything for me.

That said, the old way of being discovered and really paying your dues and playing all over and working for it is IMO very good for your development. Sadly a lot of bands that we know and love wouldn't stand a chance today. They aren't perfect enough. A lot of stars are picked mainly for their presence, attitude, and sadly, looks... You don't have to be musically inclined or talented anymore to be a famous artist or star.

A lot of modern music is so autotuned, "patched up", and almost unhuman-like perfection. Rarely do you see human performance and a live feel to the music. Modern music is like a machine. So many big name artists can't sing without their autotune live or in the studio.

I won't name names but a very popular female artist once sang with a rock n' roll female singer on her song and she didn't/couldn't have her autotune and it showed just how her singing really is (out of pitch). Of course she was criticized by the news/late night hosts/critics and then went on to write a song about that she was bullied after one critic really was admittedly harsh. But it's true.

Modern pop music especially, IMO, is as about as unhuman as you can get.

Rant over. :D

Thanks so much for sharing these. Robert Redford looks great for his age too. The theatre didn't look so packed around them but then the long shots really showed all the people there. Who is the woman in between Glenn and Don?"

Hello!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8521/8683255248_467cde25ba_z.jpg

It was a fantastic night, Witchy Mummy, myself, my housemate Sara and Stedders (whom some of you may remember) all met up and queued to make sure we had good seats (no allocated seating) and we managed to get second row seats in the centre. We were chatting to each other and as we were doing so we looked around us and noticed the band filing in to some reserved seats about halfway up the theatre, so we turned to look (stare intently) at them.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8390/8683253244_cdfd0658e3_z.jpg

(far left of the picture, just over the "orange" woman's shoulder you can see Witchy Mummy's yellow jumper, I'm sitting next to her with Stedders next to me, all staring at the guys coming in )

When we turned back round there was a fella standing at the front holding a microphone, on closer inspection, it turned out to be Robert Redford (awful photo, but you get the idea).

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8544/8682141493_79459ae806.jpg

He started by introducing Sundance a little and then introduced director of Sundance John Cooper who introduced the film and explained the little Q & A for after the film. We then watched the film on the massive Sky Super Screen (wiki entry The Sky Superscreen at the Cineworld O2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_O2_%28London%29#Cineworld_.40_The_O2), London. It measures 22m by 9.2m with a total screen size of 202m².)

The sound was amazing, the seats comfortable (we did spend the entire time looking up at the screen as it's so massive, but being second row was fab for later), absolutely loved the film.

After it finished there was a round of applause and John Cooper came back and was chatting for a bit until the guys came back in the theatre and was telling us that first he would ask some questions to get them going and then we could ask any questions and that the guys would answer them, there was a bit of chitchat and joking around and then the guys came back in, led by Joe. They took their seats to applause and then the questions began. The Q & A didn't last for a long time, but both Witchy Mummy and Stedders asked questions, to be honest, I'm so knackered after two very late nights followed by early morning by brain has turned to dust.

Don said how he's surprised at how much footage there actually was and how much of the backstage stuff was filmed by Azoff. He also had his little technology rant (Twitter..."I don't want to know what you had for breakfast.")

I'm sure I will remember more after coffee...and breakfast and I'll get WM to come on too.

Suffice to say, it was bloody brilliant.

(Don's great how do these microphone things work picture  )

The interview on BBC4 was only 15 minutes long, but pretty good.

They were asked about the 'tensions' on stage during the final Long Beach concert. Glenn was pretty candid on his words there. Don said he was in the back and didn't know what was going on during the concert, but knew there were tensions, there had been before the show. Timothy said he'd known what had gone on, and quoted Joe about what it means to have that sort of thing going on while on stage. Don said that Don Felder was one of the best guitar player in the world, but sometimes personalities stand in the way of creativity and work.

Yes, I saw another one earlier today that said that Randy left the band because of the direction the band was headed in (away from country) and Bernie left because he was just tired. The only thing worse than the state of journalism here in the US is the state of journalism in the UK, I think, though there's not a lot of difference in my opinion.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/music/4905779/Don-Henley-talks-to-the-Sun-about-the-Eagles-split-in-1980.html

ETA: Some interesting quotes.

This from Don:

We’re going to redesign and revamp the whole show. We’ll use some of the album cuts that weren’t hit singles.

Q&A:

Is it right that Bernie Leadon (guitarist and founding member) will play with you?

Henley: It’s under consideration. Glenn and Bernie have talked. We can’t say 100 per cent at this point but we would like it to happen.

I adore that interview you posted, VA!

Some quotes that especially interested me:
DON: I was like Timothy, I was devastated when we broke up. But the 14-year hiatus (that followed) was an absolutely essential thing. It gave us a chance to grow up, to have families, to get away from one another, to make solo albums and get things out of our systems.

<snip>

TIM: When everybody was ready to try it out (in 1994), it was at the right time but I don’t think it could have happened any sooner. The break had to happen and it’s why we’re still sitting here now doing this.
So for those who resent the split or get angry at Glenn for disbanding the Eagles, remember that the guys themselves now ALL view it as part of the reason why they're still together today.

This also made me chuckle:
DON: People love a group. They love seeing people work together and choosing their favorite. It’s like The Beatles. We all had our favorite Beatle.
I know for me that as much as I love these guys solo, I do prefer them as a group. Same for my other fave, Fleetwood Mac.

So for those who resent the split or get angry at Glenn for disbanding the Eagles, remember that the guys themselves now ALL view it as part of the reason why they're still together today.

As I mentioned to some of you, I was so angry at Glenn back in 1982 to know that he'd walked away, and even angrier to hear that no one had bothered to let the fans know for years. The ex had bought me No Fun Aloud on vinyl and I refused to take the shrink wrap off it until Glenn showed up in Miami Vice and then all was forgiven. I learned they broke up at a major transition time in my own life and there was a lot more change than a nineteen year old should undertake all at once. A move to VA, a new and stressful job at IBM, getting married, the culture shock of going from living on a farm to the suburbs. Leaving old friends behind and making new friends. My iconic Steelers went from winning four Super Bowls to being horrendous. My one and only favorite band, whose music I'd relied on to say all the words I could never say myself, was no more. 1982 had more changes for me than any year of my life, by far.

Looking back, of course, I can see the immaturity of my teenage self, and while I opened No Fun Aloud and purchased The Allnighter, even though the ex and I went to concerts frequently, and always in the first few rows, I never attempted to go see Glenn in concert. With the maturity and wisdom of more years than I wish to discuss, I have to say that now, I'm way over it. Expecting him or any of them to keep themselves in an intolerable situation purely to make music that would make my life a little nicer is exactly the thoughts of a twenty year old. I should never expect more from anyone than what I'd do myself and I can tell you I would have hit the happy trail long before Glenn finally did.

To paraphrase Joe, what seems senseless at the time can later seem to be an essential part of the grand narrative of one's life.

And thanks for all those photos, VA!
