I just saw on Ticketmaster that the boys are going to play the MGM Grand on 3/23/13 8 PM...presale goes on sale tomorrow

Thank you, Zelda! I was wondering when that would be announced, and what date it would be for. I was guessing April. With all the hoopla lately, I haven't checked TM since Friday, although I did check for Don this morning.

Anyone going? I know on the 23rd I'll hate this decision, but I just can't see myself doing that again.

Wow, if I had been on the fence...cheapest flight I could find, and I'd have to go to Long Beach, CA and then to Vegas, is on Jet Blue for $600 and ten hour travel time.

$$. They can do the same set list, and since they are still figuring out what to do for a tour as well as when and where, this keeps them singing somewhere together.

Agreed...And keeps the crew together. Supplies back musicians some money and keeps them all tuned up. Plus MGM sounds great. Seen them their twice and acoustics are very good. I'm sure it is an efficient place for them to play and probably pays well for them as well.

Wish I could go. March would be a perfect time for a trip to Vegas but since I can barely afford to keep the power on and myself clothed and fed I suppose buying concert tickets might be a bit unrealistic lol. But its nice to dream :)

I read an article where GF stated that they liked the venue at the MGM.
Also , if you think about it....its close to home for them travel wise and with Vegas there are so many people in and out that it works well for them for a lot of reasons... and its easter early this year???
I find it ironic that they played around thanksgiving and new years and now another holiday...I see a pattern dont you guys??
Love vegas and would love to go but its too far for me to travel with my cronic health issues so I will drop it in the kitty for the "big one"

I imagine part of the reason Glenn likes the venue so much is that MGM has made a lucrative multi-show deal with them. Hey, more power to MGM, nailing down a good thing. Our guys bring in the crowds. I'm just glad they're going to do a real tour soon and not spend the rest of their careers as an MGM casino act.

I have cronic health issues as well so I can't travel alone, therefore my husband has to come with me & it's double the expense. Vegas is too soon & too far away to be able to go at this time.

I told hubby about the planned "History fo The Eagles" tour & he said that we will have to save up. It looks like we may be able to save enough by June to be able to go to a "History"concert if it happens & all goes well. :-)

I was so upset that I couldn't make it to one of Glenn's "After Hours" concerts. I need a live Eagles fix!

I saw them at the MGM Vegas and yes, the venue is good. It's not that I don't think they should do the MGM Vegas but not ONLY to do Vegas. We don't want the Eagles to turn into a 'Vegas show band' do we? :headshake: that's for 'has-beens' not bands that can still fill major venues all around the world!!

I do see the $$ side of it; and the proximity to LA and the other points mentioned, but us fans, spread all over the world need a new tour, with new set list, to celebrate their (overdue) 40th Anniversary.

One thing I didn't mention in my mini-review of the Dec. show is that MGM replaced the horrid chairs they had the year before. They were almost comfortable.

JMO ..from the article I read by GF...Vegas is good $$$ and close to home and easy to get in and out of for them I think.
They seem to play there at least once a year...
When we were there in sept 2006 they were coming in 0ct and I was crushed......I didnt know and we had to be there in sept for business and not changable dates....
I dotncare if they do vegas as long as they do other dated as well. again jmo:guitar:

I don't like them doing this Vegas gig every few months. It will be the same exact show they have been doing for over 2 years now...

We want a NEW TOUR!!! WITH A NEW SET LIST & a REAL TOUR. They are supposed to be a rock band, not a Vegas Act...

I read some not so great things written about the last Vegas show. Some people
actually thought they were going to get a 3 hour show, so obviously they were pretty disappointed. Some also said the sound at the venue was not so good.

With the new DVD coming out, they need to deliver what they promise & give us that new "History of the Eagles" show. That's what I'm waiting for. Much as I love them...I won't see this same show again.

TK, I'm not sure if you've been keeping up with everything, but they will have a new tour. Don said 'June' and so it'll be 'summer' at least. Until then, they need to keep the name out there, the musicians employed, and themselves in 'concert shape'. No idea why someone out there would have thought they were getting a three hour show. If they bought a ticket and expected things without doing a little research, then they blew it. Less than ten seconds on Google gets you to fan sites that discuss the current set list in depth. I was there, the sound was great. There was a place somewhere in the first few songs, maybe Peaceful Easy Feeling where something sounded off, but it was corrected and they sounded great after that. Some people just like to whine and complain and cast their negativity over everything.

VA, I have been keeping up with everything, so I do know about the "tentative June date for a tour" & I am assuming that Don meant the NEW TOUR, so I will be waiting patiently for that.
I don't think they need to keep their name out there or get into "concert shape" They have been around the block many many times. They need to get a new tour together & practice that, Work on a new set, staging, what ever. That should keep them plenty busy, not do that same show again. Besides, doesn't Don have an album that he's supposedly putting out soon??? We are waiting way too long for that thing. He needs to get that baby OUT already! LOL

As for those people who thought they were getting a 3 hour show, there was an article out there that insinuated a 3 hr show, & these people said the last time they saw the Eagles, they saw the 3 hr show, so that is what they were expecting. Not everyone does research on a group before they buy tickets, they just say,Yeah, they were great last time we saw them, so let's go again. I don't research every band that I go to see. If I like a band, or an artist, I will go if I can or have the opportunity. I guess when you are expecting 3 hours & you get 2 hours, you might be disappointed.

Pardon me if I am wrong, but I would have thought that people would have realised that by its nature a casino show will be shorter in length. If you want to see a three hour show you go to a bigger venue. If these people just assumed it was going to be three hours, too bad.

If any article 'insinuated' that the show would be three hours, it was wrong. On this board we all know they have not done a three hour show since probably mid 2011 when they were in Europe.

Why would you assume casino show would be shorter? I wouldn't assume that. Casinos are open 24/7. There's no reason they can't do a 3 hour show! I'm sure Vegas has plenty of shows longer than 2 hours. Bigger venues don't necessarily mean a longer show. In fact there are more restrictions on large venues.

As for that article, I saw it & I posted it in another thread. It did say the Eagles do a 3 hour show & yes, it was wrong, but people may have read it.
Not everyone reads our board, so to say that everyone should know it would be 2 hours is assuming that they follow the Eagles as closely as we do, & most people, especially casual fans don't.

I'm just repeating what I have seen, don't shoot the messenger.

TK, Casino's have shorter shows (and are actually known to have restrictions on how long a show can be) because they want people out on the floor GAMBLING!

In terms of a single article incorrectly stating that a current show is 3 hours.. many articles make slightly incorrect statements all the time, not a big deal.

well TK I dont care if the "do the same show " again...each one is differeint cause each time is different and I like to see them perform.
Daryl hall has said that each nite they perform its differnt for them as performers so i think it is the same for the eagles too........these guys arent robots out there and they do it different each time...I thank god each time they perform cause I am greatful to still see my fave band....
cant think of any better way to spend my entertainment dollars.

01-23-2013, 10:20 AM
Well, I'll just say that anyone who is dropping major bucks to see a show would be very wise to do some research to see what they are getting for their money. If they just assume, and don't bother to check it out, then, I don't have a lot of sympathy for them if their expectations aren't met. As others said, info is readily available these days. If you don't use the internet, you can always place a quick call to the venue to get information. Maybe not everyone knows, but it's a fairly well-known fact that casino shows run short (generally about 90 - 120 minutes).

And TK - you have to realize that you are no longer just the messenger when you begin offering your opinion. So if you are going to participate in a back and forth exchange here to argue your points, others may certainly choose to disagree with you.

The reviews on Ticketmaster (right there, no one has to search out a fan site) for the Atlantic City shows varied wildly on the subject of time. Almost all were extremely positive reviews, but on the subject of time, some expected the three hour show and were terribly disappointed. Others were in extreme happiness to get a two hour show when most artists do 90 minutes, or so they said. I know all the concerts I've been to in the last few years, of all genres, have been 90 minutes with the exception of the Eagles. On the flip side, I heard Springsteen did a show that was over four hours in Europe this past summer!

Topkat
01-23-2013, 11:22 PM
VA, You're right. Most acts are 90 min to 2 hours. That is the normal for most shows these days. When I saw the Who in Dec. they played 2 1/2 hours, so I thought that was pretty long. I think the Stones also played a 2 1/2 hour show when they played in Dec.
I guess people who had seen the Eagles shows when they were 3 hours were expecting that again, so they were disappointed.
You know once you get 3 hours of the Eagles, you sure want it again!!!
I do hope that the new tour is a bit longer than the set they have been doing. Even if it is 2 1/2 hours, I would be pretty happy with that!!

Of course I tried GL! But I'm on a (cheap) ticket that doesn't have flexibility. Would also mean having to take a day off work and flying out 2 days before the rest of the family. The hub would have to manage 2 kiddies on their first transatlantic trip while I would then need to hook up with them on the Sunday. Not really fair!

However, if Glenn  was to do something Easter Week or just after Easter I would seriously consider taking a hit on the flight home and waiting!

It was pure fantasy TK! But I agree with you about the record stores. HMV closed very suddenly here about 2 weeks ago and left a bad taste in everybody's mouths as they refused to honour Christmas gift vouchers and also left their staff without up to 2 months pay. I must admit I have always loved the record store culture, browsing through music and memorabilia and spending half the day there. Unfortunately the Internet means most of these stores are no longer viable though. I'll miss them!

As it stands now, it's cheaper to fly somewhere (if you book your ticket way in advance!) than it is to drive! I imagine with this latest airline merger, that will end. For this show, though, by the time they announced it, airfare was already bumped up from cheap to expensive. Since it's less than a month to go, I'm sure it's moved into the unreasonable category. So I'll be staying at home and wishing I were there. Hopefully their next show will be announced further in advance!

Our guys are wonderful, but they don't do public rehearsals/sound checks or do autographs, sorry to say. You can pretty much go anywhere in Vegas and have a good time! I'm not sure where you are staying, but the MGM has a big food court very near the arena, and there are a lot of good restaurants for before the concert and bars/lounges for afterwards! I think they have already opened the big pool, I can't remember the name of it, something with the word Wet in it, and it's suppose to be THE place to go in the afternoons.
