This is where I grew up. Beaumont is my hometown. Wow, I can't believe Don's coming to freaking BEAUMONT, TX! I know it's a gala and seats cost $375, but I have to go! Maybe I could drive there to save money and I can stay with my parents in Houston, perhaps... I'll work it out. Heck, I would've spent that much if I'd gone to AC.

Maybe I could visit some old friends I haven't seen in FOREVER. I haven't lived there since I was 18 and moved away to go to college; my family moved to Houston at that point as well.

Well, turns out that I did some research once I got home and at black-tie events, you're not supposed to wear dresses that are above the knee in length. :( I might wind up wearing the formal dress I got for my sister's wedding after all.

I got a scare this morning! I received an email from my mom that said "Daddy read that the concert in Beaumont has been canceled. Do you already have your airline tickets? Do you still want to come to Texas?"

I freaked out. I had indeed already bought my airline tickets and as a ticket purchase was essentially a donation to the cause, I would feel bad about asking for a refund. Should I even try if that were the case? So awkward! I looked on the organization's website and all over the internet and couldn't find anything to say it had been canceled.

Finally, after church, I called them. "Where did Daddy read that?"

Well, it turns out that Dad had forgotten the name of the person I was going to see, had seen an announcement in the Houston Chronicle that an April concert in Beaumont had been canceled, and had assumed that was the only one going on there and therefore it must be my concert. The guy who canceled? Morrissey!

I was so relieved that I couldn't be annoyed, but I was sure to say, "No, I am not seeing Morrissey. The man I am seeing is named DON HENLEY. H-E-N-L-E-Y. If you want I can e-mail it to you so you don't forget."

My parents are the sweetest, but my heart about stopped at this mistake!

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about my parents doing something like that. No one does concerts in the Somerset area.

Bad news: I am currently sick as a dog with what appears to be a severe cold (symptoms are cough, headache, nausea, and a runny nose producing more mucus per hour than I would've thought the human body possessed). I leave for Houston early Thursday morning. I've arranged a substitute for my Friday class and filled out all the paperwork (I don't teach on Thursday). The show is on Friday. I'll drive down to Beaumont the day of, spend the night, then drive back up to Houston to fly out on Sunday. It will be nice to have a couple days with my parents before the show. If I have time, I'm going to try and visit a couple old friends in Beaumont on Saturday.

I'm dressed and ready at the hotel! I tried to take a photo of myself, but it didn't turn out. Maybe someone will take one for me at the Civic Center.

Cocktails are at 7:00 but the concert isn't until 9:30. I'm wondering when I should leave (the Civic Center is five minutes away).
