View Full Version : How's the weather?

Brooke, it's in the mid-80's right now, humidity close to 60%. This morning was very sunny but it's been clouding up since noon and radar shows a substantial band of storms moving in from Wyoming and getting close. My kitchen faces southwest so I can sit here and watch it arriving. In these parts, 'polar vortex' translates to temps in the 60's in the coming days. No complaints from me about that. And I love a good rainfall! We got the yard work done yesterday - mowing and weeding - but didn't water because of the storm predictions. My flower beds are begging for showers and cooler temps. :thud::pray:

And there's the first rolling thunder! Bring it on.
HOT! We need rain but none in the near future. No humidity though which is nice. I remember summers in the east with my grandparents, ugh! We just need a good old thunder storm to cool it down a bit.

Similar to BF, its unbelievably warm here too at the moment. We have not had the heat on all week - the warmest Hallowe'en ion record!!
I expect the temperatures will plummet in the next week or so but I'm not complaining. The longer it stays warm the shorter winter will be!!

Also had lots of wind, but that calmed by evening, thankfully for the tricksters!

But, this winter is going better than last. Last year by this time we had had several snowstorms of several inches. Church had been canceled 3 times already, which rarely happens over once a winter. This year, only snow a couple times. But it has been ungodly cold!

We're in the middle of the east coast blizzard. Up to 30cm(12inches) of snow is expected, but the drifting from the high winds will cause it to be much deeper in some places. All schools, flights & public transportation are cancelled & the malls & most businesses are closed.

If we get any more snow I don't know where we will put it. We had 3 major snowstorms within 10 days. For Some of the older parts of the city a state of emergency was declared as there was too much snow for emergency vehicles to get through the streets. City crews have been working 24/7 to remove the snow from the streets so. In the rest of the city the snow is just plowed out of the way and there isn't room for more.

Here in central KY, we're to get 8 to 12 inches. It's 20 degrees right now, the warmest it's been all day, and by the time the snow starts tonight, it's to be down to 13 with wind chills around 0. Not a lot of wind with this one, thank God, and hopefully since it will be that cold, the snow will be fluffier and not too wet and heavy. I have a feeling my snow shovel is in the storage unit, so cleaning my truck off will be a challenge.

A few years before that, 1980 or so, it was -20 before wind chill at the top of the ski slopes at Seven Springs, PA. Skiers were very unhappy to be told they couldn't ski. Duh!

Perhaps its the temps here that make me cold. Somehow, Kentucky has suddenly become Vermont. Not taking into account wind chills, it's to be -13 tonight. A high of 3 tomorrow. -16 tomorrow night. Snow, freezing rain, and sleet the entire weekend, but eventually it's to go up to 40, which will seem tropical at this point...

We had a fireworks ban in our smaller cities. But the city I live in put on a spectacular show I watched from my backyard. The cool down was yesterday and it was needed. Our farmers had a terrible thunderstorm and broken crops Sat. but hardly any rain. So with the heat comes restricted fishing, camping, etc. The Mtn's aren't even cool Upper 80's at our cabin way up high. Love the summer not so much the heat.

Well, the small break from the bad weather is over. All of a sudden, a thunderstorm popped up about 40 miles NE of here, and it's heading my way. In the big city around here(Albany), there's hail, downpours, wind gusts, tree damage, and power outtages. It's moving pretty fast, so hopefully we won't see that bad of a storm.
These little summer showers ain't too little anymore!

Hope you still safe VA! The storm that rolled through here on Wednesday left behind some damage. (Knocked an 75+ foot white oak tree onto my uncle's powerlines. He was without power for over 6 hours!)
Brooke, yikes, that's way too cold for July!
It's the same here, highs in the mid 90s with heat indexes of 105+ and 100% humidity. I'm so greatful for air conditioning.

Weather here is cold for July (66 F), windy, overcast and showery - usual summer weather
Rain lots of Rain. Probably received 5-6" of needed moisture today. So thankful the 100 degree weather is gone for now. Feeling relieved in MT.

Humid yuck
The weather seems to be calming down into a nice summer about 80-85. We've been getting some downpours and my puppies swimming pool had about 3" of rain the other day. MT is a beautiful place but we need moisture so we do not have forest fires. In 2001 we had such horrific forest fires just outside where I live we had to wear masks from the smoke. I worked at AAA travel at thetime and boy it took a bite out of tourism. Haven't had any really bad fires since. Thank goodness.

It was an incredible drive home from work today! First, of course, was the fact I was leaving work and heading home, and that's always a plus. The weather, however is fantastic! Low humidity, 80 degrees, sunshine and white, puffy clouds. Nearly everyone had their windows down, including me! All four windows down, sunroof open, even the sliding window in the back of the truck was open. Music so loud I swear the dashboard was jumping...and first, Cocaine by Eric Clapton followed by One of These Nights by our guys.
Now I'm at home, sitting here thinking of things I should go do so I can drive around some more!

Oh SHUT UP with this fall business!!! I am still trying to warm up after the polar express from last winter. I wouldn't complain if it was 90 degrees 365 days a year. This gal likes wearing sun dresses & flip flops.
Think it's going to be an early close of the pool this year. My son is going to Texas for a race and it needs to be done before he goes.
Speaking of fall, went to grab a piece of candy and realized this candy was from last Halloween. Sad thing is it still tastes fresh.

Turkeys can fly for short distances, jms, as you saw! That reminds me of the cutest sight I saw last spring.....a mama turkey sprinted across the road in front of me with 4 young ones following behind like a string of ducks! Cute!

I've seen wild turkeys fly a few yards before.
Well, by the end of the week, there will be a small break from the humidity. The air will be much dryier. Which means that while the temperature will still be 90+, going outside won't feel like stepping into a sauna.
Well temp. is still in the 90's but cannot see the sun due to all the smoke from the forest fires. So basically choking on the smoke and sweating.

In the 60's tonight. Now I will be fighting with the pool until we close it up for the season. I am so not ready for those long cold nights.
Honestly never knew turkeys could fly but then again I never had any take up residence in my backyard before either. This past spring there had to be over 200 of them in the field behind my house. I guess there was a ton of dried corn leftover from the prior season.
Now I have a deer family that has been here for years. They are so used to us by now they don't even move when we pull into the driveway. A few years ago I had to call game control when this idiot with a gun came into MY YARD to "thin the herd". Not on my property you don't & not next to my house. Yes I did press charges. They are wildlife which is all well & good but nope don't aim a my house.

Cooler weather has prevailed but no rain. We need moisture. The cold front is coming through this weekend, of course just in time for us to sand and stain our new deck, LOL. But if it brings moisture ok. Fall is in the air for sure. Our Farmers Almanac has reported little to no snow this winter. If that holds true, we are in trouble for fires next year. We still have some smoke from the current ones burning. On last friday the air quality was so poor you were suppose to wear a mask. Choking in the Rocky Mountains, have a lovely evening.

Having previously resided in California and experiencing several small quakes there, I knew what was happening immediately, but it is more than unsettling for those who are not accustomed to this phenomenon. We've another storm due tomorrow but its sending a lot of rain ahead of it first!! So the floods that we have been dealing with since Dec 4th, have risen again and are now at their highest and just outside the doors of the house - hopefully we won't get the worst of the storm or the house will be flooded soon .....
Really fed up of the floods now - and just really want dry weather for a bit....
How did you survive 'Storm Frank' , Lacken? ( who named these storms - Frank sounds so innocuous and yet it caused such havoc! )

I've been wondering as well how you girls are doing. Its a bit calmer in the east but not much. At least we still have electricity. The Liffey is in full flow! I believe Gertrude hits us on Saturday. I have NEVER seen so much rain!!
We were in Howth on Monday - Soda you may remember being out here in the summer. The pier was closed off completely because the water was coming right over the wall and creating a waterfall on the far side

Well, Frank (!!) has risen the water levels again and we finally managed to get a water pump as the water was coming into the back porch. Its taking a while for the water level to go down even slightly. We'll really feel the effects of Frank today and they are worried about one area right beside the river.
Tomorrow we have storm Gertrude so my NYE will be spent watching the water
How are things with you? The West and South of us are really bad as well. Hope 2016 is a bit calmer !!
ETA - Great pictures GA!! I love walking in the wind :-)

Cool photos GA, I love walking in the wind too but not when it literally blows you over!!!
On the one hand we're lucky 'cos we live up really high so we'll never get flooded but then on the other hand, when it freezes or snows, we're marooned for weeks!! So it's hard to know which is best but the wind is also terrfiying when you live up high. Hoepfully, you'll beat the waters, Lacken and the New Year will be better. You must be all exhausted what with the stress and trying to pump out water day after day. :brickwall:

Beautiful pictures, Ga! Thanks for sharing!
We are dry now for the next week, but the southern half of Missouri is about to float away! The flood gates are in in Hannibal, a nearby town. Branson and St. Louis and many other towns have many roads flooded. Even interstates! Strange for this time of year!

Wow, GA! What incredible pictures to show the force of Mother Nature. This has definitely been a wet December for us as well, although we're not experiencing the same problems that many of you are. Keep safe and dry everyone!

Finally drying out down here. Now Jack Frost is nipping at our noses. Tonight will be the first night that the temperature will dip into the 20s, and the high tomorrow is 48. After this cold spell, the weather will be about normal for winter in south Georgia, with lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s.
Hope that everyone else who has had alot of rain is now catching a break!
Nice pics GA!
We've had snow and ice for about 2 weeks. Makes driving tough. But it's winter and snow is inevitable.

Temperatures are about average, lows in the 30s/upper 20s, and highs in the upper 40s/50s. There's talk of snow by the end of February, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Raining and cold. Winter is back with a vengeance.

Well - it's been unseasonably mild here in Ole Virginy. It was in the mid-50's here yesterday, but that took a sudden turn overnight. Today we won't get out of the 30's and we are now having our first snowfall of the season. We have about 1/2 inch right now, but it's beginning to taper off, so I don't think we'll get much more. My kind of snowfall - very pretty, but not enough to cause any major disruptions.

Normal, but with a lot of rain coming today. There's snow as far south as Atlanta. Saturday's high will be 44 with 25 miles an hour wind gusts. :?

To anyone in the line of the superstorm bearing down on the east coast, please be safe. It sounds like it's going to be a major event and I would hate to see anyone take an unnecessary risk.

Blizzard 2016 here in Brooklyn. A foot of snow so far and more to come. Almost passed out walking too fast in the snow trying to get to the subway, couldn't catch my breath, but I stopped and got a grip on myself! Wind is kind of wicked at 30-40 mph gusts. Snow in the face is not fun at that rate.

We actually got some snow flurries very late last night and early this morning. I got to see some of them. I don't like the temperature being 40 F, with a wind chill making it feel like 27 F. That's too cold for this Georgian!
Still safe everyone who is on the east coast!

I flipped off the snow so many times this weekend. lol I work in a convenience store. and while I believe 7 11 and Wawa was closed Circle K was open. it was a state of emergency. and they still opened. that annoyed me to no end.
i'm glad everyone is safe though.

Unseasonably warm, in the 70s. There's a moderate risk of severe weather late tonight in to early tomorrow morning. , roughly 11 pm- 6 am. The weather coming has the most chance of damaging tornadoes that our weather people have seen in several years. I'm not looking forward to trying to sleep tonight!
Then a brief cool spell followed by more warm weather.
Springtime in the Rockies. Freezes at night upper 50's during the day. Sunny, finally! We had a long cloudy winter, glad to suck up some Vitamin D....

71 and sunny here. No rain nor cold spell for the next week. Highs tange from 74-85 between today and next Monday. I'm glad for the warm weather, but with all of the standing water from the huge amount of rain since December, the mosquitoes will be going crazy soon!

Thank you Tracy for the good thoughts. I live in the City of Jersey Village which is in north-west Houston & we got @ 20 " of rain in 12 hours. The bayou that runs thru our little city overflowed & got in several houses. Thankfully my house is several streets over from the bayou & my house is ok. I have never seen so much lightning & thunder. I am now on my way to Las Vegas to see George Strait & dry out. My prayers are with everyone in H-town.
Glad to hear you're alright, HB! I remember when TS Allison made a mess of Houston (then made a mess of NOLA), and this was an eerie reminder. Anyway, enjoy and have fun in Vegas! :)

DJ, I'd love to have that weather. We're in the middle to upper 80s for the next week, which is too hot for April. It will be mostly sunny though, which is a nice thing after the huge rainfall amounts of the past 4 months.

Absolutely wonderful weather here - hottest day of the year so far. I can feel the heat of the sun indoors as I type this (I don't feel this very often!). The temperature is currently about 23 degrees Celsius, but even tonight it isn't expected to dip below 15, so consistently very warm around here right now. No doubt it will change back to the usual soon enough, but I'm enjoying it while I can!

It is raining like hell for about two weeks now I guess it won't be better in the coming days. We have to fight with massive floodings which I have never seen before in my life and I'm very glad that we could stay in our house.
Hopefully the worst part's over and the sun will shine a few times this month.

Well, they've changed the forecast. Tropical Storm Colin will impact all of southern Georgia all throughout today and into Tuesday. The severe weather should go south of my area, so that's a good thing. (Sorry for those in northern Florida who'll be getting the brunt of it). The 2-4 inches of rain is badly needed.

For the past few days, it's been 97-99, with a heat index of 105. It's 10 am and it's already 83, with the heat index making it feel like 90. These highs are way above average, even for Georgia. The weekend will bring a cool spell and, hopefully, some much needed rain.
