This will be my show as well. I'm debating what I want to do for seats. I would like to see them once from the 1st or 2nd row.

Assuming the prices are the same as the July shows for VIP, the difference between that 2 to 3 feet of space will be $270, which is why I went for second row in DC. Of course, you need to get into the presale right at 10am to guarantee 2nd row, otherwise you could end up further back.

I have seen them once from the second row, dead center, and I can tell you, if at all possible, you need to see them this close at least once. Warning, though. Once you've done it, you'll always want it that way. ;-)

The second closest I've got was 5th row, Joe side, and even though its only 3 rows difference, it's like another world being in the 1st/ 2nd row.

I've seen Joe, Glenn, and Don from the first row. Joe at a place where I could have held onto his shoes during most of the show.

A chance to get in on the ESPN presale for this show on Friday, as well as to enter to win tickets.

I know I'm not PM but I know for us, it's just not a great neighborhood. It's not so bad right there but to get there, the surrounding areas are a bit risky. It's actually gotten better than it was a decade or so tho.

Yeah, TBF's right. Compared to, say, Indianapolis, where you can walk around the neighborhood before the show, stop at a bar, have a drink, stop at another bar, have another drink, the United Center is off to itself in a not so desirable part of town.

Quick story- Back in 2002 we stayed in downtown Chicago at the Omni and took a cab to the United Center to see Paul McCartney, thinking there would be all kinds of cabs around after the show to get a ride back, right? WRONG!!! There was one unsavory looking fellow offering to hail a cab for you, but we steered clear and just kept walking in the general direction of our hotel. Soon we were the only ones out on the street in a creepy part of town. At one point I thought we would end up walking all the way back to the hotel! Finally a cab going the opposite direction saw us flagging him down, did a U-turn and picked us up. Since then we've always driven our own car to the United Center.

Oh my! Well I guess what you don't know won't hurt you!

We took a cab there and as you said Pm, there were not nearly enough to handle the huge crowd trying to get one afterwards. As I said in my review, we finally saw a bus that was headed back to Michigan Avenue where our hotel was and got on it along with lots of others from the show, thankfully. The UC is too far to walk to and I've had that feeling of walking on deserted streets at night too and it's not fun. I wonder why they built the UC so far from the rest of the city attractions? Anyway, we didn't have any trouble or creepy people around and it was very well lit at the venue. (although there were several guys (scalpers) standing around when we walked to the box office but they didn't have any tickets!)

The United Center replaced the Chicago Stadium, which was built right across the street in 1929. The buildings which comprised Cabrini Green Housing Projects were built in 1942, 1957, and 1961. Moving a sports team out of a struggling neighborhood is considered bad form here, giving up (at least on the surface). Nevertheless, the last of Cabrini Green demolished two years ago and the area is yuppifying quite nicely - goodbye, "creepiness!"

When I saw them there in 2008 it went fairly smoothly but to be honest I was on such high doses of narcotic pain meds at the time I sadly don't remember much from the whole experience other than I was there, it was great, and I got back home safely.

Got front row dead center at Soldier Field a couple of years ago. One of the most enjoyable nights ever. A little crazy trying to get to my room with all the people after the concert

Hey LA Eagle - I was at that show as well, down the row from you on Timothy's side (I think it was seat 17). Great show!

I was also at the United Center show Austin speaks of and I must say that I didn't think the venue was so terrible one would want to avoid a show there. Indeed, after being told parking at Soldier's Field would cost over $50, I was longing for the United Center!

Yeah, I don't mean to imply that there is anything wrong with the venue itself. We just had a bad experience that one time. But Hubby still tries to avoid it.

I was at the 9/25/2008 show there and yes, the venue was great -- but not the neighborhood -- this coming from a New Yorker who is not easily spooked about such things.

We caught a cab there and I assumed that grabbing a cab after the show would be easy. WRONG!!!
It took forever. We ended up walking 4 or 5 blocks to get one. If I went back, I'd hire a car service to and from and not depend on a taxi being available.

Sounds exactly like my 2002 experience.
