We haven't made a thread for this album because it's a compilation, but it does turn 10 today and it gave us "Hole in the World" which was the first new song by the Eagles in almost ten years at the time.

It also got me into the Eagles hardcore because I bought it after seeing Don Henley with Stevie Nicks in 2005 and it made me realize these guys had it goin' on - not only did I like every song to varying degrees, but also there were several I thought were fantastic. That's what really won me over. It wasn't just that they were all good; it was that so many were great. On the strength of hearing so many standout tracks on a single collection, I decided to buy the back catalog and you know the rest!

A brilliant compilation, like Sodascouts is (I think) alluding to, this also got me into the Eagles big time: about two and a half years ago I listened to it on a quite long (by British standards!) car journey across South West Scotland. Around that time I'd only ever really listened to the non-US issued The Very Best of the Eagles album (1994, the one with the pic of the cactus and desert on the cover if anyone has it), which basically contained all the singles from the 70s plus Desperado; so this had a lot of new songs I'd never heard of but was willing to try. Anyway, the combination of the scenery I was looking at and the new songs on the disk was just so perfect: listening to the likes of Ol' 55 and Doolin-Dalton whilst driving through barren fields miles from anything was so perfect. I basically listened to that CD non-stop for about a week afterwards! It is definitely the best compilation the Eagles have put out, but if I had to point out one criticism, I think it's a bit light from the eponymous, Depserado and OOTN albums, perhaps one more song from each (TLHTM, D-D/D Reprise and HW would do) and it would be perfect.

I listen to the Very Best of the Eagles on Spotify and I love the album. I think this was the first album I listen to by the Eagles after I watched HOTE.
Their were so many songs I've never heard of and they become my favorite.

These are the CDs that never leave the CD player in my truck. When I have a really lousy day or a really good day, this is what I listen to.

In Australia it's called The Complete Greatest Hits.

As a thread has been started, I have a major problem with it in that Glenn only sings two songs on Disc 2. This of course reflects the I Sang Less Because We Had Don Henley situation. But not all these songs were hits. Why couldn't TGFY have been included rather than ITC, The Sad Café or Those Shoes (I could also say instead of WT, VOL & The Last Resort but there you are). You can hear him in 7BR, GOI & HITW though so when I listen to it I try to think of it that way. Also he does say a lot of interesting things in the liner notes.

I know I shouldn't have a problem with it & it reflects reality, but I can't help it if I think that reality was wrong. Thank heavens for LROOE.

What else from The Long Run was supposed to go on there, FP? The wretched "Teenage Jail"? God forbid they should include that crappy embarrassment to the Eagles just because it's got a Glenn vocal on it. I suppose they could have included "King of Hollywood" but honestly that song is inferior to the ones they did include off TLR, IMHO - and this is supposed to be the very best Eagles songs. Who sings what has nothing to do with it.

It's true they could have found a place for TGFY on there, but other than that... I don't see much else they could have done.

Like you, I'm glad Glenn sang more on LROOE, though.

No. Did I suggest they should have included Teenage Jail? I only suggested that TGFY could have balanced it out just ever so slightly.

(My opinion of KOH is the opposite of yours, of course. I wasn't suggesting that should have been included either).

I have loved the eagles since I was in high school and hotel California came out...and a certain hubba hubba caught my eye with his jeans guitar and perfect harmonies with dh and company

I also love this compilation. This was the very first CD I ever purchased. I know I was a late bloomer here, but my car that I had until 2004 did not have a CD player - only a cassette player. The day I bought my first car with a CD player, the first stop I made when I drove off the lot was Best Buy. I bought this CD, along with Elton John's and Madonna's greatest hits CDs. Of course, the Eagles were the very first to go into the player. I think it may have been a couple of weeks before the plastic wrap even came off of the Elton or Madonna CDs. To this day, it is the one that probably still gets the most play.

As a CD I play this the most as well. I usually leave my iPod on shuffle, but if I'm working around the house I often pop the discs in the CD player. I would like it if TGFY was included as well.

Honestly, I'm not that big of a fan of TGFY so I'm okay with it not being on there. I wouldn't mind having KOH on there though as long as none of the other songs were cut. But then again, if I included all the ones I wanted, it would have been 3 CDs. So, for 2 CDs, I'm pretty satisfied with their choices.

I remember being excited to get it because it had Please Come Home For Christmas on it. I had trouble finding a hard copy of it before then. I searched for the Christmas Of Hope CD it was on, with no luck. It's a fantastic CD, and one I play often.

I think I play disc 2 more than the first one because I LOVE LITFL

almost every day after work I flip to that song. Just seems to be a fitting end to the day. Course after that I flip to song 9 to hear my boyfriend

My preference for Glenn's vocals on Disc 1 is what made me realize Glenn was my favorite (I started out liking Don best).

I play disc 1 a lot as well, but I know there is no Timothy B on it :(

I do love to turn up the stereo on One of These Nights. I just love that bass guitar intro

I have no idea how many times I have listened to these two c.d.s!!!! They got me into loving the Eagles!! Especially After The Thrill Is Gone.

These bare the cds that never leave my car. Definitely the Eagles cds that get played more than the others. And I love the fact that Please Come Home For Christmas is on it. I would of added a few more of MY favorite songs but that would have added a 3rd cd and I'm actually more than happy with what they've put on this so no problem. Love it!!

Same. The more I listen to ATTIG the more I believe it's one of the best the Eagles ever wrote, right up there with The Last Resort and HC.

As far as ATTIG, I don't know where exactly I'd rank it, but I would definitely agree that it is one of the band's most underrated songs. I think it's a terrific song in every way.

Also love ATTIG. Definitely underrated. Kind of ironic they played it at Long Beach, their last show of the 70s yet TMK, they didn't play it live much.

ATTIG is really a good song. I love it! This album is great too. I listen to it over and over. I now know all the words to every song on that album!

Other than Midnight Flyer, Ol 55 and James Dean, I like all the songs on the Double CD.

I actually play both discs about equally. Normally, when I put them in the CD player, I play both discs all the way thru. Again, I don't have any major complaints about the song selections on the two discs, only that they could have easily included a 3rd disc as previously stated. I love how different the band sounds between the two discs - you definitely get the feel about how the band changed musical directions when you listen to them back-to-back. I often wondered why they ended Disc 1 with Hotel California instead of beginning Disc 2 with it. I'm guessing it was to highlight the transition between the two eras.

Happy 11th Birthday to the Very Best Of The Eagles. This was actually my very first Eagles album I bought and it was just last year when I bought.

As is the case for me a lot here lately, I am a little late to the party. But still, I also wanted to acknowledge that October 21 was the 11th anniversary of the release of this fantastic CD. As I've mentioned before, this was the very first CD that was ever played in the very first car CD player that I ever owned. I love every song on it and never skip a single one.

This is the first CD that I bought too and now I am on CD set #3!! I wore two sets out then won a double cd as a consolation prize in the LA competition last year.

Not surprisingly I too tend to play disc 1 more than disc 2, purely for the fact that there are more Glenn  lead vocals on it. I love all of the sons and I think both ATTIG and OTB are totally underrated as songs. I have started playing CD 2 more because my 10 year old son has started to become a really big fan. After seeing it live during the summer he loves LITFL (tries to get me to play it LOUD with the windows open in the car while driving down the motorway lol. However I will NOT speed). He also loves 'The Last Resort'. CD2 has generally grown on me, but like has been mentioned already I too would love to have another song or two with Glenn  on lead. Perhaps as has been suggested TGFY would not be out of place!!

Its a great CD to recommend to anyone who asks me what they should get if they were to get a CD to introduce them to the band.

Oh, and the 10 year old also won a copy of it! Beginners luck! The first time he texted a radio competition!!!
